#CUEchat is both a weekly Twitter chat and an ongoing conversation across social media that connects CUE members, resources, and new ideas. Each week is powered by a unique voice.

What's up #CUEchat?!?! Honored to be rocking out with you all this evening!! Fired up to be here...and will be coming your way tomorrow night, CA!! Let's talk #LT8Keys tonight!!
.@judyblakeney here from OC, Calif.: I am a MS ELA/CTE teacher and Inst. Coach. One of the most transformative activities for me is connecting on @twitter with great people like @thomascmurray#cuechat#WeAreCUE
Elem. Principal in @ParklandSchools had the opportunity to have Tom come and talk to our administrators multiple times. Always looking to improve school culture for all stakeholders. #CUEchat
A1: As a leader you have to be a role model for the type of culture you want. You can’t expect others to lead by example if you’re not willing to do it yourself. And carry the banner-@casas_jimmy#CUEchat
A1: #CUEchat without it, there is no tone. Culture of sharing, trust, empowerment, empathy, love, kindness and innovation. I only lead by those who help show me the way. #Transparent
A1: When you create an environment where students, and staff, want to run into and not out of, you are creating an awesome learning and working environment. #cuechat

Hey everyone! First time here. Scott from Michigan. Middle school dean. I’m working with my Ts on reaching all learners and growing our Ss beyond the basic lessons and growth. #CUEchat
A1: The culture in the organization is what establishes the accepted boundaries of innovation and flexibility in the classroom.
If the administration is open to allowing Ts to explore options with Ss, it greatly expands the Learning experience. #cuechat
A1: With back to schedule PD going on, I have actively been showing my team that I want there to be fun and laughs that go along with the serious conversations. There has to be fun to get buy in and enjoyment. #CUEchat

Sometimes all it takes is permission. If leadershipbis ckear that innovation and exploration are valued and encourage sharing of ideas, things will start happening.
It's like a snowball. It'll start small and then just keep growing and growing. #CUEchat
A2; That's the work I am leading in #DMUSD... personalized, agency, relevant, etc. We're using Design Thinking as an entry point and tackling real world problems #cuechat
A2: One of the best benefits to having a fairly new team is the fact that I can mold them into what I want and they have their own autonomy to teach. We have curriculum but my emphasis is it’s a resource.. do what fits you and is best for kids! Do what engages them! #CUEchat
A2: When we are trying to teach to the NetFlix Generation", we must change our mindset to meet the needs of all ("All means all" @E_Sheninger) of our students. Differentiation and choice is the key. #cuechat#LT8Keys
A2: I strongly believe in #EduProtocols by @jcorippo and @mhebern - Let Ss drive the learning. What do they like? How do they learn? What is relevant, fun and engaging? Gotta be tranformative and moving every year #CUEchat
A2: Ask the students! Student feedback is a very powerful tool. Ask them what they want and what they need. Ask them how you can be better.
Show them that you care about their opinions by using their fb and give them credit for it. Praise them publicly for their ideas. #CueChat
In Culture Code, Coyle says vulnerability leads to trust. When we are a bit vulnerable (like, "Not sure how to do this") trust gets established #CUEChat
Trust is huge! Ts have to know that the admin has their backs when they're trying new things and Ss need to know the Ts have their backs when there are struggles. #CUEChat
A3: COLLABORATION! Student leadership. More Ss talk time less T talk time. Put Ss in groups, develop lessons around Ss needs. Create centers or different areas to go to while working. Flexible seats. #CUEchat
A leap of faith is required. For me, most of what I've seen with distrust is Ts not trusting admin. Admin has to be open to innovation and Ts are going to have to go out on a limb and take a chance. #CUEChat
A3: We must create student "learning" environments versus Teacher "working" areas. I am hoping @thomascmurray will be posting my favorite classroom picture during the #cuechat The tombstone classroom needs to stop.
A3: Remove unnecessary furniture, let the students help decorate the space. Oh yeah, and go outside with students either literally or virtually. There’s a whole great big world out there. Don’t stay confined to the 4 walls of the room. #CUEchat
A2 Google gets 2-3million apps a year for jobs. They discern by who has Googliness. What’s your googliness quotient? Transferability of skills. 4cs, resiliency #CUEchat
When I meet with teachers during a post-observation, I always ask them "Who is working harder? Who's voice control the time in the room today?" #cuechat
A3: Allow the students to get comfortable. Let them rearrange the room a bit and decorate it up some.
Make it less of a lecture hall and more of a learning lounge. #CUEChat
We had a teacher go with all flexible seating this year, and some parents were not happy. Sometimes even doing the right thing, takes courage and time to explain the why. #cuechat
I think it’s important to not look at learning spaces as the change in and of itself, but rather to promote more of the good that’s already happening while also laying the foundation for future work. #cuechat
I always considered myself more of a "facilitator of learning" than a teacher. My ideal world is where I introduce the topic and let the Ss run the show.
IMO, Ts should be asking Ss ?s to expand the conversation but otherwise be hands off #CUEChat
A4: Our Ts provide feedback on what they want. As well, we provide them time to build up their classrooms, lessons, and prep for the coming weeks. #CUEchat
A4: We are in the process of looking at changing our PD and creating a Badging System of P.D. Kind of like a digital EdCamp for teachers. With the idea, once they make the commitment to this change, they will do the same or model it in their classroom for their Ss. #cuechat
A4b: We want Ts to own their learning and push themselves. We provide the resources to Ts and let them choose how to use the tools to grow Ss to where they need to be. It pushes Ts and Ss to grow. #CUEchat
A4: I like Gerald Grow's Staged Self-directed learning model for adults: Read more here: https://t.co/pJaGiTQjYs#CUEchat#WeAreCUE#LT8keys Need to match the learning experiences to the type of learner
I think it really points to the overwhelming fear of change humans have. We're terrified of "different" bc "different" is uncomfortable and we don't know how it'll turn out.
Sometimes we just have to cannonball in and take chances. #CUEchat

Working on the opening of school now. Thinking of incorporating @GooseChaseEDU. Working to transform faculty meetings into a more collaborative PD session, but it easier said than done sometimes. #cuechat
A4: Ask the students! (I feel like I already used this answer 😜).
Different Ts need different things.
Leaders should have one in one discussions with Ts and they should work together to build a PD plan. Open the doors to new options and push the boundaries. #CUEchat

Thanks for a great chat group! Another busy day tomorrow! Glad to connect with those of you that I did. If we don’t follow each other, let’s connect! Have a great night! #CUEchat
A3: Listen to students and let them have real say in the classroom. Communities are built through connections, not necessarily through rearranging furniture. #cuechat
A5: Tech is just a tool. It will not replace the teacher. But, the tech, that smartphone in our hands right now, is the content specialist. We, as leaders, need to support our "learning specialist" who are our teachers. There needs to be a balance between the two. #cuechat

Make sure to check out the FIVE strands offered by #FutureReady Schools - District Leaders, Principals, Librarians, Inst. Coaches, and Tech Leaders. More here: https://t.co/8eyZKtRluq#CUEchat
A5: Certainly, when technology is used to help students connect and to share their learning/work with outside stakeholders -- other schools, the community, parents -- it makes the learning real and relevant.
#CUEchat
A5: Information sharing is key. Ts should share ideas of what has worked well and failed.
Lean on the vast amount of resources to see what's out there and try new things. Get Ss feedback and adjust. #cuechat
@thomascmurray always finds a more poetic way to say what I was thinking. Your quote below is the key! Tech has to be the tool not the babysitter. Good tech leads to authentic collaboration and creativity. #cuechat
Speaking of the use of technology, here's over 300 free tools curated by teachers and admin, organized by category... a can't miss resource! #CUEchathttps://t.co/O26j7SrQ0H
A6: I lead the change by being willing to take risks and perhaps fail, modeling perseverance and resilance. I don't need to #knowitall to teach or learn #CUEchat#WeAreCUE#LT8keys
A6: Oh man, am I ever the example of stepping out of one's comfort zone. Just getting myself Google-fied across the board and it's already having an impact. Sent out a couple Google forms and some teachers applauded. :) #cuechat
A6: The passion is real! I love what I do. We have to prepare students for jobs that haven’t even been created yet. They have to learn to think outside of the box. They have to learn to be better than average. #cuechat
A6: Learning by doing and modeling different strategies. I picked up a great quote from @BethHouf last week..."We need to change 'We Gotcha' to 'We got you'". We need to allow our staff to take positive risks and pick them up when they fall...same for our Ss. #cuechat#LT8Keys
Technology should empower students to own their own learning through equitable resources and empower teachers to spend more time on collaboration, the relationships and personalized options for student learning...the apps and tools will change but the purpose shouldn’t #CUEchat
.@LSpencerEdD I hope this was valuable for your Ss Thanks to all for joining us #CUEchat#WeAreCUE Ask them how they can use that with their Ss #LT8keys
