CatholicEdChat is a twitter chat. Topics focus on discussions around educational issues for Catholic Educators and topics beneficial to Catholic Schools. We look forward to continuing to connect Catholic Educators online to discuss education and teaching with faith in our schools. The chat takes place on Saturday mornings. Time 9am EST.
Good morning #CatholicEdChat friends from Indianapolis. Just back from Asst Principal gathering for @MidwestJesuits & @JesuitsUCS. Full of mission, ideas, and gratitude for amazing Jesuit educators!
Great week. I was at The Mustard Seed in Chicago, discussing all things Inclusion in Cath Schooks. We had teachers from 15 states. I learned so much, and so many old friends. #CatholicEdChat
Good morning! What a week! Our big game was postponed due to weather-when does that happen in CA?! Tonight a fundraiser for childhood cancer. Oh yeah and I got a new car! #catholicedchat
Good morning. Maureen from Omaha, where we might see sunshine. Looking forward to some 5 day school weeks. Due to PD & Labor Day, we have only had 4 Mondays of school so far! #catholicedchat
We finished the week with a PD day. I was blown away by the initiative my teachers took to apply data to instruction. With the gentle reminder, of course that we are not data driven, but mission driven and data informed. #CatholicEdChat
A1 In @Room113SMM there are many symbols and signs of the Catholic faith. The crucifix, statues of Mary and the saints, and postors explainin gour faith. #CatholicEdChat
A1. When I go into classrooms at our school, I know they are Catholic because everywhere you look, there are reminders of our faith. But, the most important reminder is in the way we treat each other. #CatholicEdChat
A1: A Catholic classroom radiates joy and love for Christ. There will be age-appropriate visuals, of course, but more importantly the conversation and interactions among Ss and Ts is joyful and centered on learning about all things in the light of God’s love. #CatholicEdChat
A1 Of course, it has such things as a prayer walls , cross, Bibles, posters, etc. but also it's a place where faith is evident in the way teacher and students interact. #catholicedchat
Love this idea of being “mission driven and data informed” instead of just data driven. May have to share that with my education doctorate classes at @LoyolaChicago.

A1: Jesus is present! Many reminders of our faith, many saints, rosaries, prayers. And our Ss see Christ reflected to them from their Ts. #CatholicEdChat
A1 IMHO where students actively engage in lived experiences w/ awe & wonder of Creation. From lit, to math, to science, arts, theology... questioning, moving, sharing, collaborating, reflecting with self, others, & tchrs toward knowledge/truth. (IPP illustrated) #CatholicEdChat
Q1 you gather to pray. You gather create community and you gather to learn. Classrooms in Catholic schools can be anywhere. @the_Madeleine#CatholicEdChat
All items shared plus a God’s Space for de-escalation. A cozy spot with gadgets for calming and prayers posted used by Ss on their own or encouraged by Ts #CatholicEdChat
One thing I'm noticing from answers and pictures is the beauty of a Catholic Classroom. It may not be 'stylish' or 'trendy' but it's cozy and home like. #CatholicEdChat
My view of a Catholic classroom today. Not about the walls...ita the people, the mission, and the interesection of the two in god's presence and for the glory of god. #CatholicEdChat (also, it's cold)
We started using student art in classrooms illustrating experiences with Grad at Grad ... powerful to see tgeir interpretations of mission and faith throughout the building. #catholicedchat

Agreed. My ideal catholic classroom is less about looks and more about actions. What problems are we thinking about? How do we treat one another? #CatholicEdChat
A2: working with @GCCE_LUC, helping Catholic Schools include students w/ disabilities. Creating “belonging” is a beautiful and much-needed way to live out our faith. #CatholicEdChat
There is usually something that involves the school theme, which is generally faith-based. My old school had prayer tables in every class. #catholicedchat
A2. We just want our kids to feel safe and loved in our building. In terms of culture, I think it’simportant to be aware that a lot of kids don’t come from the “typical” Catholic culture (i.e single parents, divorce) and they should never feel less than. #CatholicEdChat
A3: In my old Catholic Highschool, we didn't have a designated area for prayer, but we did pray before every class. Also our school had a chapel. I never thought about having a prayer corner in the classroom. #CatholicEdChat
A1: while symbols of our faith are great for a Catholic classroom, the actions, words, and care for each other that students use everyday show just as much as symbols of our faith! #CatholicEdChat
So funny! In my class I have a poster that says “Mrs. Guthrie’s Goals: 1. Get us ready for heaven. 2. Get us ready for life. 3. Get us ready for 5th grade. #CatholicEdchat
Was a big part of our AP conference... moved from 30k foot view of reconciliation to practical methods of practice for living in reconciliation even with data! (We are APs after all). Many joyful surprises in the connection. #catholicedchat
A3 Generally no since it’s a high school and not all teachers are Catholic. But there are several places and opportunities for prayer around campus. #catholicedchat
A1: Christian iconography and art within the classroom has a great sense of beauty within it, which is one of the main components that grasps our hearts and fixates it on the heart of Christ. This can be greatly appealing to students' young minds. #CatholicEdChat

A3. Every classroom has a prayer space. They also have symbols of the year’s theme. This year is Rejoice and Be Glad, so they have battery operated pillar candles. It was tough to think of a symbol for that. #CatholicEdChat
A3: we do. It’s important that students have a place to step away from the craziness of classrooms into a place of calm and reflection. Our Mother Mary is always available in our prayer area to hear our students! #CatholicEdChat
A3 Every classroom has a prayer corner and a bulletin board with this year's school-wide theme "Family of faith: Guided by the Spirit" in which students interact with throughout the year. #CatholicEdChat
I love classrooms with patron saints. Saint Angela Merici in the Bronx has a patron saint for every classroom and it’s posted on their doors. What a great way to learn about saints you might not know! I love visiting that school #CatholicEdChat
A4: LaSallian Catholic Schools have a tradition of beginning alknprayerbwith “Let us remember we are in the holy presence of God.” Itnis a beautiful way to start every class. #CatholicEdChat
A2: We are in the historic areas of Catholicism in America. Our local parish schools in the @ADWCathSchools reflect the culture of the each individual school- all rooted in Faith #CatholicEdchat
A4: the school’s mission is posted throughout the school...students are reminded throughout the day of the mission. It is also exhibited by the interactions of all in the school. #CatholicEdChat
Yes, and this fits with what @BishopBarron is always saying about how we can use beauty to lead people to the good and the true! Beautiful art can be a gateway into the faith.
#CatholicEdchat
Isn’t that the joy of this chat? How personal, professional, AND spiritual can (should) come together? The Living Church is always moving for and with humanity as the Spirit works in the world. I think it’s is pretty cool :-). #CatholicEdchat
A1. Our classrooms are full of life! Small groups, independent workers, teachers walking around working with kids. Our walls have posters to enhance academic and spiritual growth and the classrooms feel like “home”. #catholicedchat
A5: Well, the thing that stands out first is I think that we pray in our classrooms. Also, Catholic schools educate on Faith & Morals and teach their students how to be good Catholic citizens! #CatholicEdChat
Used to teach in public school. The lack of prayer is over-hyped. Just announced a pop quiz. Signs of the cross all over the room. #catholicedchat - God is there in our times of need.
A5 We pray a decade of the rosary each day. Each grade completes a classroom service project to go along with our school-wide ones. Classes rotate preparing/leading our weekly masses. #catholicedchat
A4 Our mission statement, ISO’s and a poster of Mary are in every classroom. We are famous for our Mary grotto so that photo is everywhere! #catholicedchat
A5: the ability to talk about Jesus. The teachings of Jesus come up in every class, regardless of what we’re talking about. The love of God infuses everything that we do. THAT is what is special about catholic classrooms #CatholicEdchat
A4. Our mission is posted in every room and on my newsletter weekly. I read it daily to ensure we can live up to what we say we believe in. Each day, our kids say the tag line words of our mission after morning prayer. #CatholicEdChat#teachingsforlife
A5: being able to have Ss understand their actions by reasoning it with faith. Showing how Jesus plays a role in their lives through the Real Presence. By truly caring and loving them as the future of our faith. #CatholicEdChat
A5 When we are praying in the am and afternoon, EVERYONE stops. No matter where you are. No matter your faith. You stop what you are doing. It’s one of the things I love. #catholicedchat
A4... the key to our mission statement is discover & cultivate their God-given talents... So we live this by exploring student context, providing lived experiences & time for reflection. #CatholicEdChat
Have students reflect on the mission and how it links to what they are learning. Force those abstract neural connections. #CatholicEdChat (final question on last month's reflection
A5: I’ve been a teacher in Cath Schls during times of great sorrow. (I was teaching in a Cath Schl in DC on 9/11, & because I work with students who are ill, I’ve had several students pass away.) Sharing our faith during these times is particularly beautiful #CatholicEdChat
A5. So many things. Crucifixes. Uniforms. Morning prayer. Teacher prayer. Shared values. Priests teaching lessons. Altar server accolades. Kindergarten church art work. Examples of following Jesus. #bekind#catholicedchat
Ditto! We also have an Examen at end of day where same stillness occurs. And students just know & accept the holy silence (mostly - they are ternagers 😉) #CatholicEdchat
A5: I think that we have an excellent in example in Christ alone as the model of teacher. Following and learning to teach as He taught is not always easy, but most certainly rewarding and gratifying. It is the narrow way! #CatholicEdChat
Ditto! We also have an Examen at end of day where same stillness occurs. And students just know & accept the holy silence (mostly - they are ternagers 😉) #CatholicEdchat
A5. Prayers at beginning of day, Angelus at noon, Contritiontobend day. Open chapel which in time of great need, such as our 2 Ss deaths, is a pure blessing. Daily/Weekly mass, monthly adoration l, Ss praying over each other and far more. #CatholicEdChat
