Pre-work Answer - I'm grateful that #teachnvchat is so late at night after I'm done putting girls to bed! Great break from doing work!!! Rob Leichner, Charlotte, Secondary Math Specialist
Hangin' out with a few a my friends! PS This is totally cool to be able to write a complete thought! It's a little foreign though to not have to abbreviate every word! LOL #teachNVchat
A1: the greatest positive is seeing students apply gratitude with peers and teachers. Challenge: changing their culture. Some students havenāt been taught those skills unfortunately. #TeachNVChat
I think we all are 280 now-check out the little circle thing in the lower right ( at least on mine) its fills up as you create-though I liked the number to tell me how many more characters I had #teachNVchat

A1 positive is that we are teaching a life skill that is so much more than a score on a test-challenge is how do we ensure we are seeing beyond the classroom-how do we ensure it becomes the norm #teachNVchat
#teachNVchat I think one of the challenges of teaching #gratitude is defining what that actually means, but one of the #positives is learning how Ss define it and discussing from there.
Yes, and we can do a lot by modeling and creating examples in our actions...then Ss can see how to do it without taking away from the work. They'll need that in their jobs, gratitude is important, but so is the work. #teachnvchat

A1 challenges are they tend to be unaware until things are pointed out to them positives - when they are grateful they are sooooo grateful #gratitude#teachNVchat

A2 I think students learn more about gratitude when they're connected with their peers in other parts of the country and around the world. Students doing service projects for others learn empathy and gratitude which is a good thing for many kids who feel entitled #teachNVchat
A2 - I wouldn't say "projects," just actions. Thank your partner/group after an activity, thank a veteran (timely this weekend), thank your parents for providing what you need (when they do)...and modeling, giving them and other Ts lots of thanks. #teachnvchat

When you get close to the circle being full, it jumps to counting the number of characters you have left. :) We still need an edit button though! #teachNVchat

One of the most gratifying things I can can get from a S is that spark you see when they get a concept. But if we want to talk more visually, Iāve kept every note a kid has ever written me #teachNVchat

I also think in the work you do - when someone asks for help or gives help, you can reciprocate with actions (make their copies one week, tutor their student, etc.) Sara's right, students do notice! #teachnvchat
A2: Love this article and the idea about placing checkmarka next to studentsā names and having a mentor. Someone else mentioned SEL and Iļø remembered this! #teachNVchat
A2: not mine but our career dev teacher has her students write professional emails to teachers and the letter is a letter of gratitude. Students pick who to send them to. #TeachNVChat

A2 I am not sure if I have ever really consciously incorporated gratitude. Empathy, discussion, respect... I do ask them to provide constructive feedback but that is really the closest.
I will need to work on that. Trying hard to get to #280characters right now #teachNVchat
We had a week where Ss wrote letters to their favorite teacher a couple years...I definitely still have mine! (the 2 kids that picked me :) #teachnvchat

A2: every year my #APHG students look at food insecurity in the lead up to #Thanksgiving. They have done food drives and built hygiene kits. They go into the community and learn the issues that are in our backyards #teachNVchat
A3 - Connecting it to the work is key. When the gratitude is around math (or school in general), it doesn't need a holiday! But that's generally my feeling about everything...math is everywhere! #teachnvchat
I've had students keep a gratitude journal. They write three things that they're grateful for each day- 3 things that would make tomorrow better (their goals/actions). I encourage them to not repeat the same things. It's hard at first. #teachNVchat
A3 I think we need to model it, & I donāt think this is something I have done well as a teacher. As a mother I do all the time explaining to my children why I am thankful & why they should be, who they should thank. As a teacher I forget, this is a good wake up call #teachNVchat
Everyone, I would be very grateful if you checked out @cmsmathproblems - one fun math problem each week, Google form to respond! I have 990 this week, and I really want 1000!!! (If you're in Charlotte, you can win @hornets tix this week!) #teachnvchat
A3: part 2 I have students do starters every day they are in my class (we have block scheduling) the middle day of the week I ask a personal interest question just so I can get a glimpse into the lives of my students. Iāve learned so much. #TeachNVChat
Great point on the parenting/teaching connection. I think teaching made me a better parent, but I also think I would have been a better teacher if I had been a parent sooner! #teachnvchat
I think the best part is seeing when the Ss actually CARE about the projects they are doing. Itās not for the grade; itās because they see the #impact they can have. If we teach that early, they are hooked for life. #teachNVchat
this is huge-when we take time to learn about them and they learn about us it helps cement the positive relationship-I love having lunch with students-I learn so much #teachNVchat
