#FLedchat is a virtual meeting place using Twitter. Educators across the state of Florida come together on Wednesdays at 8pm EST to discuss the topics of the week.
Hey all. Dene G. from the city beautiful. Hope everyone is staying dry amidst the much needed rain that continues to fall outside. I have been writing for the past hour and will likely get back to it after. #FLedChat
Good evening, #FLedChat I'm Tammy. My plans are to travel between our primary home and the home we have inherited. We will be making a move sometime during 2018.
While I'm tweeting, I am listening to a sermon one of my students delivered this past Sunday. It was his first sermon. I am thankful he asked me to listen. #FLedChat
Hey, hey #FLedChat! Michelle, Media Specialist from Daytona Beach here! I'm hoping to get into the back country this summer. The mountains are calling and I must go...
The rain is making me tired. But in those times when its "too quiet" like an hour ago, I've decided to write..maybe the next book will be done by 7/3 at this rate, who knows. #FLedChat
A1: When I reflect, whether in thought, orally, or in writing, it frees me. I feel like what was in has been released and I make room to take in more. It helps me to put words to my thoughts. It helps me to be critical. #FLedChat
A1.2 I also believe that reflection creates the capacity to me to do better and greater things through the conscious review and critical critique of my actions as an educator. #FLedChat
I completely understand this. Many times reflection allows me to stop stressing over what I may have done wrong. It allows me to set it down and keep moving. #FLedchat

I feel that way about learning as well Michelle. If I stop learning, I may as well stop teaching. Learning to me is relevance. Reflection to me reviewing what I need to learn and therefore reinforcing learning. #FLedChat
A2: I can honestly and proudly say that I have innovated learning in the classroom, always looking for new ideas and ways to help students #CLIMBE not to mention build their capacity to learn in different ways. #FLedChat
A2. By opening the Media Center as often as I could before school & for "Lunch Bunch," I have developed some great relationships with my babies. #FLedChat
A2.2 Further, I would say that when people (including other teachers, admin and visitors) walk in my classroom, they can tell learning is happening because it looks like it and it feels like it #FLedChat
A2: The relationships I've built with my students. They are definitely deeper and stronger this year than in years past. Not that its been a problem in years past, but this year they are GREAT!!!
#FLedChat
A2b: I've also noticed that this year there are definitely more students open to what I'm teaching. They are looking beyond playing games to creating through coding. #FLedChat
A2.3 I will also say that students have a comfort level in the classroom and are brave and willing to interact and try new things. Relationships are at the foundation of this. #FLedChat
A2.3 I will also say that students have a comfort level in the classroom and are brave and willing to interact and try new things. Relationships are at the foundation of this. #FLedChat
A3: Every time I thought the students had access to something cool then got the iBoss block during the lesson. Every time I said I need to remember to check. Almost every time I forgot. #FLedChat
A3: I wish I had more organized opportunities for students to get out of the school and into more problem-based learning. I'd also like to include more creation opportunities. #FLedChat
A3. I didn't do my job as a Media Specialist the way I know I am capable of doing. Too much testing took away from it. Hoping this coming year will see that change. I have so many ideas for helping kids! #FLedChat
A3: As a professional developer, I sometimes focus too much on the techy tools, when there are plenty of old school ways for all learners to reach the learning targets #fledchat
It is easy to get caught up, I tend to let students derive possible uses for the tech and then I go for the pedagogy even in my discussions with them. #FLedChat
A3: I also think there is more that I can do as a moderator. I'm so thankful for my teams (#FLedChat & #RuralEdChat) but this year has taken me out of the loop too many times.
Nailed it! The reality of life is that we will fall short at some point or another. But it is not an end. If I persevere, then perhaps they will too. #FLedChat
A4: Minecraft. It has been on my mind quite a bit and I had some students playing with it today. I am trying to determine ways to integrate it, more so next year. Would like to develop #PBL or #CBL activities. #FLedChat
A4: There were so many things I wish I could have incorporated. Just because I teach computer science doesn't mean every app works well with my curriculum. Also, getting students to actually talk on camera has been TOUGH. #FLedChat
A4. For me it's AR and VR. I said this last night in #2PencilChat. Are they just gimmicks? Window dressing? Or can they truly have a positive impact on student learning? #FLedChat
YES! Just because its cool doesn't mean its easy to incorporate. There can be a steep learning curve that keeps students focus away from the true information we want them to learn. #FLedChat
A4: This is simple, but I'm always looking for ways to encourage authentic communication about the learning at hand. I love seeing eyes light up in those conversation and I need to do more of it. #fledchat
A1 #FLedchat I reflect to remember what worked, what didn’t...to remember that bad days don’t make bad years. To see my growth and my shortcomings. To be better next year. (Actually just starting a blog in which I plan to reflect more! https://t.co/QUkQMAH26i —super nervous!)
We were discussing a "word of the day" city today, where they might create a city, town, environment, world that integrates their vocabulary. #FLedChat
Trenton does this. Signs are hung at the city limits and change every week/month (not exactly sure). I like the idea of an entire community focused on a word. #FLedChat
A3 #fledchat need to get better at planning and adding structure. Need way more writing in class. More parent communication. Better, fairer, more equitable grading.
Thank you for validating the idea. I have been getting acclimated to the platform myself. In the class today, there was not one student unfamiliar with the platform! #FLedChat
A4 #FLedchat not sure—I tend to overly research and focus on too many things at once. (ADHD-hyperactive and impulsive!) I need to be better about choosing what I focus my attention on.
A5: Actually I will say that my biggest influence this school year has been when @dene_gainey does the Diversity & Community conversations on #FLedChat each month. Definitely makes me think about my teaching practices.
A5: Mathematical Mindsets by Jo Boaler- so powerful in building growth mindsets in the math classroom and helping all learners realize they can do math! #fledchat
A5. The Power of Moments by Chip Heath & Dan Heath. I want to help design powerful moments for my kids. Ones that will stick with them. They may not remember how to validate a resource, but they will remember these types of moments! #FLedChat
A5: I am always reading, but I will name a couple books, @RJPalacio 365 Days of Wonder because it's an infused classroom component! Another called "Amplify" and another called "High Performance Habits" #FLedChat
