Hi #tnedchat#ShiftThis, #champforkids. Kristen from PA. It’s been a long day, but I’m laying on the floor with no more awesomeness left to do anything else but chat tonight. 😊
I truly miss audio and video editing. We did stuff in the past, but sadly, many of those doors were forcibly closed over time. Building and mixing sound in Audacity was such a blast. #champforkids
A1- a passion that excites me outside of the classroom is going through shopping. I feel so excited when I found hidden treasures!! #champforkids#diamondintherough
A1 My passion outside the classroom is my family!!! But for myself it’s running! I’m doing 1000 mile challenge right now for the year and so close to my goal. #champforkids
Q2: I'm most passionate about helping Ss & Ts better themselves. My passions of reading and writing fit in well here. Setting goals and reflecting on them are a big piece of it. #champforkids
A1: I really enjoy Youtubing when I have the time to. Love getting to film #Edusations with educators! I also really enjoy science fiction (very excited for Mortal Engines to come out this weekend!) #champforkids
A2: I’m most passionate about empowering my students and helping them own their learning to become life long learners! Because of this I care more about them enjoying school and being curious than grades and data #champforkids
A2: within the education world, I'm most passionate about passion and play. I love it when kids find an area of strength and are free to explore and grow. #champforkids
A2: Within the education world, I am the most passionate about teaching critical thinking skills--whether through reading and analyzing, discussion or writing. I am an ELA teacher, so I get to do this every day! #champforkids
A2: Within the word of edu I'm most passionate about utilizing #edtech to enhance teaching and learning. About giving Ss voice, choice, and authentic audiences.
#champforkids
A2: Success for ALL students. I do not want to see anyone fall short. As someone that disappointed so many people, I am willing to fight for others so they do not fail. I am not afraid to call people to a higher level. #champforkids
A1 - This is Stephen Martin from Watauga County Schools in snowy Boone, NC. A passion outside of school/education for me: I enjoy attending Wake Forest athletic events with my family. Go DEACS! #champforkids
A2: Most definitely passionate about inspiring Ss to become lifelong learners & to find a book that will forever change their lives. Also passionate about supporting Ts to feel more confident to take risks & understanding literacy instruction #champforkids
I am only a preservice teacher right now but I am passionate about inspiring students to love learning and build intrinsic motivation towards success! #champforkids
A2: I am most passionate about getting kids what they need. Whatever that may be. I want to make things a little bit better each day for every child. #champforkids
A2: I’m most passionate about finding new strategies and ways to teach and reach my Sped kids. I can’t lie I lie I kind of geek out and get super excited when I find that new something that makes a spark for my Ss #champforkids
A2: Making school fun for students. My schools were boring when I was in school. When I became a principal, my challenge was to turn the school into a fun, safe and nurturing place. #champforkids
A2: Being a positive difference maker. I do not do this job to be average. I don't stay after school for meetings, design curriculum work towards my masters, grade after hours etc. to be average. I want make tomorrow a bit brighter for my Ss! #champforkids
Greetings From Snowy chili Cary North Carolina. In my free time the go-to is reading a good book, spending time with family, the golf course, and taking nice long walks as long as it isn't too cold.#champforkids
A2 - Within schools/education, I am passionate about hiring great teachers and administrators and providing the support and coaching they need to be successful. My role in the district is Assistant Superintendent & HR Director so this fits nicely with my position. #champforkids
A2: I am most passionate about my students realizing their potential and helping them meet their goals. I do all I can to let them know that I believe in them and that I will always be in their corner. #Champforkids
A2: making sure school is a place where all Ss feel safe and connected so they can reach their potential as members of a learning community! #champforkids
A2: Project-Based Learning, Inquiry-Based Learning, Phenomenon-Based Learning. I love seeing kids explore and discover and solve real world problems! #champforkids
A3: I get back into classrooms. I find my superstar teachers and just sit and take it all in. It is an amazing feeling to see, hear and experience amazing teaching and kids being inspired. #champforkids
A2- I am most passionate about ENGAGEMENT and RELATIONSHIPS. If you can get your students engaged and build a positive rapport with them, they will rise to any expectations you s #champforkids
A2 the passion I feel for kids and how they inspire me each and every day. They make all of the red tape so worth it. Without my learner's, I don't know where I would be?
#champforkids
A2: I'm always willing to learn more about engagement, especially if I can incorporate technology. This passion plays a HUGE role in my position as a SPED teacher. The majority of my Ss thrive for tech. #champforkids
A1: I love to be ridiculously silly and laugh. When days are bad, you at least can do that. I declared that every day I am going to force staff and ss to tell me “happy unbirthday” and wear a hat to celebrate my “unbirthday” everyday until my birthday. #champforkids
A3: I get out in nature! It is soothing, calming, centering and brings me back to the present moment. It’s a recharge that I’ve learned is a necessity for me to maintain balance in life #champforkids
A3: Coming back to Twitter. There are always fresh ideas and positive voices that have the power to encourage, reframe, and empower me to step back into the box and try again. #champforkids
A2: Gosh. Don’t know if I can pick just one. How about 3? Meaningful assessments, making learning fun, and building relationships with ss. #champforkids
A3 - I refuel my passion by visiting some of the fantastic teachers and students in their classrooms in our district. It helps me to reconnect to my teaching roots and clarifies my purpose of teaching and learning in Watauga County Schools. #champforkids
A3: LB and I will cook a special dinner or go out to eat and talk. Twitter chat with great people like the #waledchat fam also help a lot. #champforkids
A3 - this sounds silly but it works. Train your brain. I always enter school with the mindset of bringing passion. Even if something outside got to me, training your brain to move forward works. #champforkids
A3: It's hard but seek help or advice from colleagues. ALSO... twitter chats are where I get so much support, at times, more support than from my own colleagues and I thank each and every one of you who I connect with! #champforkids
A3.
I refuel with exercise. I refuel with reading inspirational books and quotes.
I refuel by laying down in a thoughtful spot and simply reflecting. If I fall asleep, so be it, my body needed it.
I refuel with my notebook and writing.
I refuel with loved ones.

A4: Innovation Engineers is a group that meets before & after school to learn about whatever their little hearts desire. I love seeing their passions come to life! One young man in 7th grade has taken up quilting and he's well on his way to making his first quilt! #champforkids
A4: I get to know their likes/dislikes and strengths/weaknesses and use them in my sessions with them. They are more engaged and know that I care! #champforkids
A4 - We always talk about making class about them and never the teacher. It takes time because most older kids never experienced developing their own passion. But again, repetition works wonders. #champforkids
A4: Helping Ss connect with their passions comes from truly listening to and learning with your Ss. Interest inventories are also great. With the knowledge, integrating it into teaching is easy.
#champforkids
A4: I believe that it comes from building relationships and knowing their likes and dislikes, then you can help build their creativity and passion from there! #champforkids
A4: I ask them what are they into. We chat about what they did over the weekend and what they love about school and more. Getting to know them allows me access to what their passions are and from there I can hear lessons that allow them to learn thru their passions #champforkids
A4: As a principal this is where I don't see things happening. We don't take time out of the day to have kids connect to their passions. I'm not even sure we have explored that with so many of them. :( #champforkids Any good books to read about it?
A4 - It may sound simple, but I think you just need to talk with them to find out what drives them. Once you know, it's usually pretty easy to find a common bond and develop a deeper relationship around their passion (of course in an appropriate/educational way!) #champforkids
A3: I recharge by “plugging into” people who help remind me who I am & what I do that makes a difference @khoggardGRT is definitely my person & will ALWAYS be! Also grateful to have amazing colleagues to collaborate with & a PLN that is so inspiring & motivating! #champforkids

A4: begins with knowing my students. I will use their interests in math assignments and will look for reading topics based off their interests. This helps reluctant readers. Allowing students to choose as much as possible helps too. Students love flipgrid! #champforkids
A4. You will have to wait for my next installment of the 8 CS to the 10 Es for a full report on this. In the meantime, ideation for my semester-long business plan project requires Ls to identify their interests and Passions. If they are not interested, it is tough.
#champforkids
A4: Sadly this is something that I don't have much experience with. I do get to know their likes/dislikes and if tech is of interest, I challenge myself to use more tech to keep them engaged. #champforkids
A4 My students are passionate about video games so we create our own games in @BloxelsBuilder to demonstrate their learning or create green screen animations #champforkids

A4: Being OK with the unknown is a great way to help expedite it. WE have to be open to alternative methods to demonstrate understanding. If their education looks like our education then we are doing something wrong and nothing will ever change. #champforkids
A4: I ask them to share their passions with me. I enjoy it when they teach me something new or show me something that they are passionate about. We can then try to incorporate it in class if there is a way. #champforkids
A2. I’m passionate about ALL my kiddos learning & feeling successful: gifted, spec. Ed, behavior- I want to lose the labels & focus on what they CAN do not what they Can’t! would ❤️ 2 👀more inclusion & collab. w/teachers as opposed 2 taking kids out of classroom. #champforkids
A4: I spend time getting to know them. Sometimes that happens in conversations, but other times I learn through journal writing or surveys. Once I know their passions, I make sure to integrate them into what I'm teaching. #champforkids
A3: I come on here. evaluate what I’m doing in my room. Have been doing projects as I wait to learn how to walk again. Hated it. Gave up on the walking thing and jumped into something more fun. If I hate it, ss prob do too. Kids act out when they aren’t engaged. #champforkids
A4. In STEM, we do lots of projects, in various areas, Ss get the opportunity to explore, design , create, build, experiment, observe, use their creativity and their passions! #champforkids
A4: I share with them what I’m passionate about and encourage them to share with me and others. I listen to what they say & help them follow their passions & discover things they never knew about themselves. #champforkids
A4: I teach film studies. It's a natural conduit for so much passion. I don't teach it until second semester, but kids work on it year round. #champforkids

A4: Not so good at this one. Working on learning how to do this. One thing I can say is that when you move away from your desk and walk around, the ss talk. About everything and anything!! Amazing what you learn about them. Miss that the most right now! #champforkids
A4: As the instructional leader, I expect teachers to engage students and make lessons fun. Teach outside the box and try new ways of teaching. If students enjoy the lesson they learn more. #champforkids
I think that incorporating passion can be tricky! Starting with interests, real world application of knowledge and solving real world problems helps Ss dig into passions. #champforkids
This year my kids behavior charts are based on their likes. I have students who earn touchdowns, bowl strikes, build a robot, or knock down an Angry Bird. They decided what the chart should be based on their interests and they LOVE it! #champforkids
A4
Chiming in from the sidelines joining in late!
20% time projects are a great way to give ss a true voice it allows them to explore their passions Voice and choice in class is very important We don't give Ss enough credit to make good decisions #letthemlearn#champforkids
The #champforkids family are some of the most amazing edu rock stars that I have ever had the pleasure of collaborating with! I am a better ME because of each one of YOU!
#champforkids
I am not yet in the position where I can entirely throw out grades. However, grades are based upon self grading, peer evaluations, Mentor evaluations and a learner's growth and development over time. Isn't that what we're interested in, growth?
A4. We have @geniushour every Friday 4 hr;) researching stage now- they created their rubric, need 2 present info in either @googleslides or #keynote - Also need to come up with activity assoc. with project for audience to do... begged to do daiky & during recess #champforkids
A2-studying if there is a correlation between having a STEM philosophy in my classroom and a link to improved engagement and problem solving skills. I know my students love stem challenges, but want to unpack cause and effect more deeply. #champforkids
