Welcome to the chat! So happy you joined!
A1 Goal: Ts to know where my teaching tools come from-a place of empathy-I've been there, and a place of hope for
Just getting here, and yes, a little tired. Hello everyone.
it's been great & while I love the opp to see people sharing their learning...I'm glad to put away the bags for a bit
R1: My goal is to do more workshops where T's are actively engaged instead of sit and get. Listen to what T's need and want.
R1: I gave a suggestion to a first year T about sending weekly updates to Ps about Ss activities in class via Skyward
Hi, Nikki! I hope your school year is off to a great start already! Welcome to tonight's chat!
R1: We are rolling out middle school 1:1 so all things roll out - first goal.
Absolutely! Knowing this gives some credibility to our suggestions! https://t.co/6gnony7mFW
A1 Goal: Ts to know where my teaching tools come from-a place of empathy-I've been there, and a place of hope for
It is exciting to prepare for a new year! Glad you could join the chat tonight!
yes and helps build that relationship-it's ALL about relationships right?!
R1: I plan to check in with all the new Ts once a week and see what I can do for PD for them
R1 My goal is to help Ts and schools develop their vision for digital citizenship and design a community based education plan
love that it's their vision. that feels SO important
Welcome, Mark! Glad you could make it!
That's exciting--how prepared are Ss for having devices? https://t.co/Pf6iBNoIoJ
R1: We are rolling out middle school 1:1 so all things roll out - first goal.
My goal is to meet them where they are. Not just prescribe, but listen and assist.
R1: These are some of our -specific goals, we use it K-12 and are starting Seesaw for Schools! https://t.co/YsWlD8pK66
That is a great goal for all!
Parent communication is KEY to success. I read an awesome article today about this very thing. Keep encouraging this!
are you in an official coaching role now or is this just your passion for supporting colleagues at play?
A2 Listening w/out judgement or intent is a skill-practice makes better ;)
R2: I think you can use both means. I have offered tools on and I think giving them a sounding board face to face
I need to listen more! Slow down and let them talk! https://t.co/ZQKyTmg0sk
My goal is to meet them where they are. Not just prescribe, but listen and assist.
R1: Help aid teachers as we embark on our 1:1 digital transformation & Canvas integration.
Our Ts were thoughtful in preparing all last year. We are ready and pumped. S tech camps at all campuses, some S lead!
Such a great approach, . Listening is so key!
R2: I'm really passionate about helping Ts utilize short, personalized PD. Continue to promote using Twitter, Periscope, etc.
One of my Ts told me to slow down once, and it was one of the best learning moments for me! https://t.co/nwQ4SogNC4
I need to listen more! Slow down and let them talk! https://t.co/ZQKyTmg0sk
My goal is to meet them where they are. Not just prescribe, but listen and assist.
love the idea of tech camps-I'd like to hear more about the S leaders. Sounds like happening there!
I have been a mentor last year and volunteered for one teacher. The other is for the good of the cause https://t.co/oGL1A1YiBc
are you in an official coaching role now or is this just your passion for supporting colleagues at play?
R2: Both. A Google Form/email is quick. Real convos seem to happen the more you spend time w/ someone (F2F or virtual - Hangout)
How do you personalize PD? I'd love ideas. https://t.co/11puWzy4Rx
R2: I'm really passionate about helping Ts utilize short, personalized PD. Continue to promote using Twitter, Periscope, etc.
New or veteran, I always want to train by putting them in the situation of Ss, so they experience the power of the tech like a S
any chance you can share the post?
R2: Trying hard to respect Ts time by focusing on valuable PD
check in w/ her district is a wonderful model for this!
Yes-such power in experiential learning for adults!
Lofty goal! In my district, I think we have 65 new to the district!
it's essential! I'm glad you see it too, thanks!
We have three just in our dept at Pike. There are 15 or so in the school. 6-8 in the Frosh Wing https://t.co/LAUADw9i8Q
Lofty goal! In my district, I think we have 65 new to the district!
I wonder what tech tools could support that and still keep it personal? maybe a short encouragement msg w/form
R3: meet during lunch, before or after school. Use hangout, Twitter, etc.
R3: Offer REAL collaboration time...that isn't scripted or filled with 47583 tasks for T's to complete.
Are teachers responsive to before school? What time does this happen...how early? https://t.co/KOzn0v2bMM
R3: meet during lunch, before or after school. Use hangout, Twitter, etc.
R3: Present our T's with a real problem to solve and let them figure out how to best solve it and reach our goals together.
WE are attempting to use video, forms, and face to face along with some large group instruction.
R3: Google Classroom is a good space for PD & collab, esp if Ts already use it/know how.
Design thinking! I love it Keshia! https://t.co/6SRZpfag8o
R3: Present our T's with a real problem to solve and let them figure out how to best solve it and reach our goals together.
I have a few school districts whose T's would prefer to come in early...some start at 7 am.
R3: Optional mini sessions on various topics are advertised. Ts choose the best time for them. Very successful for us.
It depends. I am at school by 6:30. We start at 7:15. It does depend. Utilize any time Ts want https://t.co/gaVL4bSCBP
Are teachers responsive to before school? What time does this happen...how early? https://t.co/KOzn0v2bMM
R3: meet during lunch, before or after school. Use hangout, Twitter, etc.
When trying to get anyone to try something new, I always start with "why". Why will this help...why is this worth it?
Q4: How can we share and promote innovative learning experiences?
I personalize PD through an "online module" (on their own time). Then a F2F session where they build a lesson or ask Q's.
R3 Menus and frameworks help. Most important to me is using backwards design in the lesson planning
Compelling whys are wonderful ways to begin all lessons! https://t.co/ZXbIm0c8d9
When trying to get anyone to try something new, I always start with "why". Why will this help...why is this worth it?
R4: I have shared a lot of my ideas with the Ts who do the same specific subject matter. Also offer PD on PBL and Makers
Sorry for the Q4 blooper!
R4 First and foremost, give Ts a chance to experience the innovation models. Hook them! Then of course, have them share their exp.
One of the things I learned from is that if you make it a game, teachers will invest
R4: Provide opportunities to learn outside of the district. Ts came back from conferences on fire!
That is so true! Ts enjoy gamification as much or more than Ss!
R4: We need to model innovative teaching and learning for T's...and inspire them to pursue/share their own passions/curiosity.
Whatever platform a school has adopted for digital content delivery is a great option for PD/collab https://t.co/SpNi3qmLP3
R3: Google Classroom is a good space for PD & collab, esp if Ts already use it/know how.
Yes, even the ones who cringe when you discuss gamification
R5...who has the answer?!?! I'm still struggling to get our Communities of Practice in G+ off the ground. Seriously, the answer...
R5: with Ps: Remind, Facebook, Twitter, Canvas, email, skyward. Ts: Twitter is AWESOME for this!
Q5: This question makes me think of . Maybe It's the topic that will get everyone together?!
R5: PD Badges have created a lot of communication and sharing between our Ts. Lots of great competition too!
A4: We need to model and show how this not only can work, but serve teachers well
Q5: As far as tools go, I'll be using Google Calendar this year to help Ts collaborate, share Classroom Calendars with Ps, etc.
Hi are you lurking? Congrats to all of Milan Community Schools for getting the new year off to a good start!
R5: I've used to communicate with Ts each week and they, in turn are using with Ps.
Q5: Sometimes, we form "buddies" or "friends". We pair T's up with someone who teaches the same level and subject.
R5: For us, it's all about for sharing/ connecting w/Ps. It has been transformative, increased our transparency so much.
I want to learn more about this great tool! https://t.co/6Y4S8FhCth
R5: For us, it's all about for sharing/ connecting w/Ps. It has been transformative, increased our transparency so much.
I'm hoping that our digcit comm is that model so that Ts think, hey, I can do this kind of collab with... https://t.co/e21JyR3gmC
Q5: This question makes me think of . Maybe It's the topic that will get everyone together?!
Mentoring seems to be a very good idea for all!
Lol! You caught me lurking! Always great stuff being discussed / shared on these chats!!
R6: How about a Twitter book study in your district with the book Launch?
R6: collaboration and mentoring time is needed. Again any time that is available. Use all tools. Google docs.
R6: Our curriculum design process has been awesome for this.
R6 This Q gets to the magic of unlearning what we've known about "teaching" and the A is the catalyst to transformation in schools
R6 See standards in a fresh way. They can't be something to get through or cover. What do we need Ss to understand & be able to do
...and DO to UNDERSTAND...
I've been told that is a great tool for a virtual book club! I'd love to see someone in the network give it a try!
it's like you know what I'm thinking...darn that 140 character limit!
R7: Trying new things is hard at the beginning of the year. There is so much that has to be done! Being with Ts as they try!
R7: why not invite Ts into your room to see things being done. Incorporate something new.
R7: Also being with them NOW before the beginning helps! Working on a math Pokemon GO tomorrow with one T. Also
R7 Always, always, always do what you are asking Ts to do. No exception. is better than lecture
R7: Always advocating for Ts- doing whatever you can to get resources in their hands
When I coached, I did 2 minute videos-summaries of new things a teacher was doing w/ their Ss show & tell https://t.co/lwG00eZgqo
R7: why not invite Ts into your room to see things being done. Incorporate something new.
R7: School leaders need to invest in teacher leaders to build teacher tech integration capacity - intentional leadership
We are beginning to create some really cool resources rooms in our elementary buildings! https://t.co/E8HPZ40fs9
R7: Always advocating for Ts- doing whatever you can to get resources in their hands
so Ts can see awesome and copy it!
R8: Definitely bring a friend to the weekly chats!
R8: connect our Ts with your Ts. How about it? Anyone willing to have some pen pals. tweet pals?
Q8: I always try to encourage collaboration when I see a natural connection. Like hey, this would go awesome with...
R8: Gotta continue to communicate with those reluctant Ts. Show them the good stuff. Let Ss talk about the fun they have
WU: Focus on one goal for the year. Don't overdo it. No need to do all of the things right now.
R9: I always tell them yo go home and decompress. Take time for you
R8 Pull up the list of archives and encourage a scavenger hunt. Scroll through the current book club posts https://t.co/t1ZS47Jm8z
Wrap: Don't be afraid to let Ss help with planning/teaching/modeling/ and building lessons
Absolutely! When they see problems solved, it's hard not to want to get your hands on the solution! https://t.co/lCQFinRSCk
R8: Gotta continue to communicate with those reluctant Ts. Show them the good stuff. Let Ss talk about the fun they have
Wrap: If you want a behavior, MODEL the behavior!
Wrap: Comfort the afflicted and Afflict the comfortable!
Just logged on and realized I missed tonight's chat, :( too bad, but I've got to get to be to get ready for work tomorrow
WU: Remember it's a process. Learning isn't simply the light turning on--there's a complete circuit involved Be kind to yourself!
we'll be archiving so you can catch up later Have a great Friday!
