β¨WHAT ROLE DO YOU THINK PLAY HAS IN LEARNING?
A1 - Play is VITAL and a natural part of learning! Children from birth are learning machines as they experience the world! Sadly sometimes our educational system destroys this innate curiosity. #masterychat
A1: I struggle with this at the secondary level. We play less physically, but we do play with words, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs and most importantly, ideas. I also try (and fail) to be funny. #masterychat
A1: What comes to mind for me first is social learning among others. I also think a comfort level develops that enables risk taking. Having a choice builds ownership. #masterychat
A1) There is a strong connection between the #dispositions and #skills that one learns in the classroom and in engaging in play that enhances everyone. #MasteryChat
A1. When students are actively engaged with their learning, it makes it easier for educators to sneak some great content in. With the right levels of questions, the right activities, and some management⦠play can be one of the best strategies for the classroom. #MasteryChat

β¨WHAT ROLE DO YOU THINK PLAY HAS IN LEARNING?
A1 Ss need to believe that what they are learning has value outside the four educational walls. When learning comes alive to Ss it will become fun. After GTK your Ss and their personal likes and stories you will connect their learning to them and it will b play #Masterychat
A1: Play is so important to learning - and I'm at the HS level. Did a brainstorming session with my snrs this week in mid of our quest to redesign English class and when I asked for "bad ideas" almost all of them were about playing games...Umm - not a bad idea!! #masterychat
A1: What comes to mind for me first is social learning among others. I also think a comfort level develops that enables risk taking. Having a choice builds ownership. #masterychat
In elementary Spanish play is a necessity. Try teaching conjugation to a classroom of first graders and you'll be putting on a Super Simple EspaΓ±ol song in moments! Kids love to move, so why not feed that natural drive.
#masterychat
A1 play is a great way to approach learning because the brain is like βhey this is fun. I love this. Oh I can do that. Ooh look I learned something new. Letβs do that again.β Itβs like hiding vegetables so kids eat them. #masterychat
A1: Playing while learning allows kids to collaborate and learn from each other. It also may help students see things from a different perspective. #MasteryChat
A1: The lessons that have always stayed with me have felt like play. You dive deeper because you just must and look forward to the many ways you will apply the lessons you are teaching yourself. Play and deep learning share the trait of self direction. #masterychat
Q1: I think play is important part of learning. S need to know how to work with others and allowed sometime to interact with each other. Also, can see if they really understand the concept by putting on different contexts #MasteryChat
A1- play is everything. Play=discovery. Everyone knows a great teacher sneaks play into every inch of instruction like medicine hidden in peanut butter #MasteryChat
A1: Play must be part our lessons! Itβs a way to make learning fun and engaging.

β¨WHAT ROLE DO YOU THINK PLAY HAS IN LEARNING?
A1 Play doesn't mean running outside at recess or organized kickball games during intramurals. Play for me in education is a joyful acknowledgement of and purposeful planning for the really cool stuff we can learn. #masterychat
A1: Play allows ss to forget the organization of leetninf, knowledge, and necessary skills and relax, take risks, and actually take away personal connections, background knowledge, and important soft skills that teaching sometimes canβt offer. #MasteryChat
A1: Play teaches social skills like how to take turns & sportsmanship, and provides opportunity to develop strategies, understand math (rolling dice), and 1 to 1 correspondence (move a game piece forward. #masterychat
A1
I believe play and gamification takes some of the pressure off of learners so theyβre eased into using what you want them to learn without only associating it with schoolwork and grades. #MasteryChat
A1 I think that when we combine play and learning or tap into the elements of play in the learning process we make learning fun & enjoyable. Kids sometimes say βwe arenβt learning anythingβ but when I point out whatβs been taught they have real understanding. #Masterychat

A1 Coming from kinder, I'm sad to hear others talk about learning in a way that seems they r against play. It's so imprtnt to learning social emotiona, explorative, and life skills really. When Ss are creating, there's so much opportunity that leads to ah ha's #MasteryChat
Hey #masterychat! Running a little late tonight. Had to learn forward air and up air because that is part of the deal with a home schooled 15-year-old ππ I play all day @ school and play all evening @ home school...
I love this connection that Jon makes between play and deep learning sharing the trait of self direction. When I am engaged in something fascinating, engaging, and relevant, it feels like play- even if I am busting my butt working on something hard and challenging. #masterychat

I think that many acknowledge the importance of play in younger grades. I wish that there was a more universal acknowledgement that play has a role in upper grades too, even if it looks very different! #masterychat
To any person who is passionate about learning, learning IS a game. The trick is to help Ss who are not passionate about learning in your class FEEL like it's a game. Sometimes an actual game helps. #masterychat

A2: When we play with ideas, or talk about or write stories, I am struck by how natural it is. Humans were meant to do this. It transcends nationality or geography. So we talk and debate, and I make students argue the opposite of what they really think and it's fun! #masterychat

Sometimes I use clever Qs/puzzles/games that have nothing/little to do with content just to get Ss talking, exploring, and trying out ideas together. When they learn to work together on a "fun" problem, those lessons transfer to working on more mundane content. #masterychat
