Dan Wilson, Principal, Lynhurst 7th & 8th Grade Center...Sorry I'm Late! A1 They prepare a portfolio with samples of their work and assessments. It guides them in their presentation to parents. #wearewayne
A1: I think about the critical info the parent needs to know to help me help their child grow academically and socially. I also make sure I have a positive highlight to share during the conference. #WeAreWayne
A2: No joke..stay hydrated. You will be talking more then you are used to after a full day of teaching. Also, be open and listen to your families #wearewayne
A2. Stay student-focused with a clear intention on strength-based conversations. It is important to share areas for growth, but the focus on strengths helps to build a positive bridge with families. #WeAreWayne
A2 - Remember, parents are your partner. If they get upset, they are just passionate about one of the most important people in their lives. Don’t take it personal. Also, parents many times are just as nervous as the teachers. #WeAreWayne
A2: Always, always point out positives. Do not focus on the negatives only. I've found if you have a solution for a student's struggle, it makes the conference more positive! #wearewayne
A2: Organization is key! Have information in a ready to go folder or handout ... know the child’s strengths & things to work on. Position yourself where you can see a clock to keep on track and respect each families’ time! #WeAreWayne
A2: Summarize the major points of the conference and clarify actions to be taken. End on a positive note. Have helpful handouts to give to parents that suggest how they can help their child become a better learner and show that you care.

A2 You are the facilitator. The student should be making the presentation and doing most of the work. It is a student led conference, not a parent teacher conference. #wearewayne
A2: Talk WITH parents, not AT them. Ask for their insights, and if there is anything they think you should know about their child. The parents, the student, and you are a team!#wearewayne
A3: I always start out with telling them something positive the student has done. Then I let the student share his/her report card and data. Then I open it up to the parents. #wearewayne
A3 I spend some of the time driving a mini bus with our Athletic Director picking up parents who need transportation and driving them back home. Lots of great conversations with parents! Shows we are here to #Serve them. #wearewayne
A3: student leads ... starting with reflection on strengths and areas for growth, followed by examples of work that make them proud, handouts with helpful websites, time for questions, followed by a treat & special note to send them on their way! 💜 #WeAreWayne
A3: STUDENT shares things they are good at, favorite things about school, growth areas. TEACHER shares the same, and what you like best about them, growth areas, work samples. PARENT shares something the teacher might not know about their child, questions/concerns
#wearewayne
A3: To prepare for conference I: 1 - Review data. 2 - Prepare a one page handout for parents to take home. 3 - Think about a positive aspect to highlight about every single child. #WeAreWayne
A4: You must continue to reach out to parents. Understand that parents might not have access to phone calls between 3 and 4. Find additional paths #wearewayne
A4: Document the details of the conference, send a copy home the next day, and call home within a couple weeks after the conference to check in on progress #wearewayne
