Good evening #TLAP! I'm Joe Sellenheim, Elementary Principal in WI. It's been a long time since I've been able to chat and it feels great to do once again to do just that. Rhyming, right?
☠️🐬Hey #TLAP Crew! I'm Kimberly and I teach 7th grade ELA. Super excited to be here tonight and just ordered Dolphins in Trees by @aaronpolansky! Can't wait to dive in! ☠️🐬#TLAP#DolphinsInTrees
Mock trials are such a fun and engaging way to teach! @edutopia explains "Having students present the arguments in a law case gives them a context for developing reading, writing, and critical thinking skills."
Do you use them in your classroom?

Good evening, #tlap!
Ryan in Michigan - 6th grade social studies. Spend the week thanking math teachers for teaching how to add and subtract fractions. Needed it for my most recent home project.
A1:
We are at a vocational school. We have the luxury of including role models from industry and post-secondary on a regular basis to speak with and guide trajectory of our students. Alumni are also a great resource for peer modeling.
#DolphinsInTrees#TLAP
A1: we brain storm what is a solution to a problem they want to solve, then they plan it and build it. It helps them see they are creators and doers that should think and dream big #DolphinsInTrees#TLAP
A1: Passion Projects are my first piece in one of my classes. I want them to not only talk about something they are passionate about, but what it means to them and their future. Ss come to life and really put such enthusiasm into their project. #TLAP#DolphinsInTrees
A1 we have to share our passions and allow them to share theirs with us. Give them time to explore and cultivate ideas and allow them to create and reflect. Tell them stories about other dreamers #TLAP
#tlap A1 Give them permission to go off the board. Anytime you can give a choice do so. Engage them and thought-provoking conversations and ideas to explore. You model dreaming!
A1: A school in Michigan had each student with a photo of themselves in black and white and it capture their "dream"..some were rock stars, some were teachers, it was awesome dream big! #tlap
I love that! I drink coconut creamer, too! 🥥 A1. I model the dreaming by thinking outloud. Pre-K is the most fun place to do this. #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
A1: I provide every opportunity for voice, choice and questions. Mystery bags, using QFT with statements. Using hyperdocs that provide choice, etc... this year I want to add a passion wall in my room. #tlap
A1:
I have my students do a personal narrative essay about their summer! I follow up with some multi-tiered complexity questions in the form of a writing prompt. They choose which questions and prompts to answer--the results are always good!
#DolphinsInTrees#TLAP
This. Is. Wow. If you don't read another blog post on twitter for the rest of this year, you should read this one. @ShannaPeeples provided a very candid, very real perspective to so many things about the current state of education. #leadlap#tlap#educoach
A1: Model it for them, provide a variety of examples, encourage creativity and outlandishness, push them to think outside the box, give them time to do so
#TLAP
A1: I like making dream books from student treasures with our 2nd graders. It allows the students to see and value all the dreams of students in their class. Makes for a nice keepsake as well. #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
A1 The first thing I do is to know my students. To know their dreams and include their passions in our learning. I also give them autonomy & control in the classroom. I want them to never forget how to work to achieve their dreams. #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
A1: Provide them opportunities of choice and voice. If you always give students work where they just spit back knowledge, then you aren't creating dreamers, you're creating robots. Voice and choice opportunities lets them explore passions and aim for the stars! #tlap
A1: I think it starts with creating an environment where Ss feel safe to take risks, be creative, and embrace who they are. Then providing them w/ opportunities to use their voice & share #tlap
A1: Encouraging them to think outside the box. Utilizelize creativity in all subjects. Set goals and celebrate successes to keep them dreaming and reaching for the stars. #tlap
#tlap#dolphinsintrees A1: Set a goal and provide students with the resources to let them roll. Since we are in school, we can provide the valuable tools.
A1: I'm hoping to bring Passion Projects to the classroom this year. I want Ss to work for something bigger than "just the curriculum" to add that sense of ownership in learning to their world. #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
A1. As I start a new job in Philly, I hope to empower all students to learn and discover their gifts. I hope to introduce role models that the students can identify with, so that the students can dream and strive to be the best they can be. #tlap
A1: When speaking with students I make sure that my tone is positive and enthusiastic. I try to help them create plans to achieve their goals. Being realistic with them in this step seems to really have a positive impact. #Dolphinsintrees#tlap
A1: It's easy to dream when your teacher leads the way! Embrace the wishes, the wonders, the wild, woolly way-makers and allow the to dream big! #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
A1. Allow for creativity, making, designing, inventing, experimenting, taking things apart to see how things work, exploring, creative writing, etc. #tlap
A1 First have to get them to believe in the possiblity by connecting with them and showing people who have accomplished great things. Then allow them to pursue passion projects in class. #tlap
A1: Our class motto is “Dream Big!” We talk about our dreams & set gutsy goals together! I will remind them daily that I believe in them & they are capable of accomplishing anything they set their minds to do! Don’t settle... go BIG!! #tlap
A1: Let students follow their passions, pursue their interests and spark curiosity so they are running in to class to see what is happening every day. When students know you believe in them and value their effort, they will believe more than they thought was possible . #tlap
A1 ask them “big” questions to understand what they dream about if there would be no limits. This helps to create meaningful learning experiences linked to them. #TLAP
A1
☠️🌊🐬☠️🌊🐬☠️
ENCOURAGE ADVENTURE
Provide Ss with flexibility to construct their own learning...choose their own books, select topics, pick tech tools, promote collaboration & connection, and give them the freedom to discover their passions!
☠️🌊🐬
#TLAP@burgessdave
A1 its all about building trust and establishing relationships. I love sharing my dreams with students and having them share theirs. Love using @peterhreynolds’s Happy Dreamer to get discussions going #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
A1 Showing kids that you can work hard and have fun at the same time. I tell kids all the time that my job as a principal is fun and a dream come true. They ask why & I tell them its because I get to hand out with you all day #TLAP#DolphinsInTrees
A1: Model it! Ensure opportunities for Ss voices to be heard & empower Ss with agency as authors of their own learning. Promote & model a growth mindset. Actively listen to learners—see them as the incredible human beings they are. https://t.co/nQXDPNJJNz#tlap#dolphinsintrees
Welcome to #TLAP! We're getting ready to rhyme and share with people everywhere. Thrilled to be with you tonight. Please introduce yourself.
#DolphinsInTrees
A1 Best thing I can do is to model my expectations for all stakeholders at school. Be present. Be kind. Be a dreamer. Celebrate success. Celebrate failure. #TLAP#DolphinsInTrees
We're back! Join us tonight on Twitter for #EdTechAfterDark as we discuss a problematic situation that is gaining momentum: the idea that creativity and innovative practice can be standardized. It's about to get real at 10PM EST. See you then! #tlap#learnlap …
A1. Live to dream, dream to live...students dream in response to the assignments you give. Open ended, PBL, & Genius Hour are a few that will fill your TLAP ship with dreamiest of crew.🍍 #tlap
A1. You have to establish an environment of positive language to produce hope. Once a child captures hope, dreams become actions! #TLAP#DolphinsInTrees
A1b: My mom has this in her store and it's really hit home this week. Easing their fears through providing a safe environment and building rapport allows them to dream bigger than ever before! #tlap
A1) it’s often hard for students to imaging what they will be in the future. I love to ask students...and teachers...what they want to be tomorrow. #tlap
Sorry I'm late! It's Molly from Seattle #TLAP A1 Every 1st grader is a dreamer and it's my job to make sure that they don't lose that curiosity and love of learning!
A2:
Step 1 is identifying these students. We work hard to learn facial expressions of students & staff. Nobody should be a # in the hallway. We utilize other students as mentors to support struggling students. Connection is key.
#DolphinsInTrees#TLAP
A2: Connect with THEM and build those relationships. If you build relationships with students they will jump through fire for you, because they know you would do the same for them! #tlap
A1) making sure my kids dream means focusing on my relationships with them!
When kids feel loved and supported, they feel SAFE: and when they are in my presence and feel SAFE, then they can think freely knowing I have their backs!
#dolphinsintrees#tlap
#tlap a1 I show them that the world is so much bigger than just what they know and inspire them to travel and make connections with those different from themselves.
A2: Hooks & Asking the questions... all of the questions. Put time and effort into designing experiences for them! Share a story - Story Time is my favorite, even with middle schoolers. It captivates them every time. #tlap
#tlap a2 connection comes long before they enter your class, visit lower grades, know siblings, talk to them in the hallway and not just say walking feet! Listen to their answers!
A1 Plant examples in front of them that are relatable like inventor kids from Ellen. Read and tell the stories of dreamers. Respond to their dreams with "Yes, and..." Show them I believe. #tlap
A2: I intentionally planned a lot of collaboration activities during the day for my kindergarten students. We did things such as Conga Line, Inside/Outside Circles, buddy talk, triad talks, small groups talks, and Mix & Mingle. #TLAP
A2: Foster them in leadership roles, allow independent research and learning of topics of high interest to them through projects with differentiation in process and product. #tlap
A2: Listen...when young students have something to say, it may very well be the most important thing in their world happening that day. #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
A2: I try to give every student a handshake or high five or what’s up as they walk, high energy positive and work to get to know each and everyone as indivuals #DolphinsInTrees#tlap
A2. Look for ways that every child has some connection to an adult in the building. My buddy @BurkheadBill began a wonderful initiative at his school last year that inspired me (and many more) to look deeper for connections and fill in the gaps!! #TLAP#DolphinsInTrees
A1 We spend time building each other up during our morning meetings. We remind each other of our how amazing we are & that we are world changers now! This mindset lets us dream big! #TLAP
A2
🐠🐟🐡🐠🐟🐡
SWIM TOGETHER!
Spending the time up front building community, making connections, and establishing a culture that encourages connecting and collaborating!
☠️🐬 #TLAP#DolphinsInTrees
A2. Provide different opportunities and platforms for students to share their voices. @Flipgrid, @padlet, @Seesaw are all examples of how to do this not only in one classroom, but can potentially connect students to those outside the classroom. #tlap
A2: Day 1 meet them in the hall and learn their name. Follow the same procedure every day that follows. When name is mastered, get to know them deeper and ask them about their interests as they walk in. Handshakes and nicknames always seem to be a winner when appropriate. #tlap
A2: This is a tough one. It takes patience. Find a way to connect with them personally. Show them you are genuinely interested in who they are and what they like and dislike. It's all about the relationship! #tlap
A2: We're expanding our mentoring program beyond 6th grade this year to support relationships w/ adults in our building. Ss meet w/ mentor 10min/week. #tlap
A1 Provide students an environment to dream, to wonder, and to wish. The environment you encourage your students to return to should be inviting and celebrated. #tlap
A2: Every student needs to feel special when they walk in the door. Give them opportunities to explore who they are and who they want to be. You need to do whatever it takes to ensure that students feel safe, supported, encouraged, celebrated and valued...no matter what. #tlap
A2 We have to be intentional to help others make their dreams a priority. I love the REAL + #Innovator's Compass for keeping our innovative ideas at the forefront + creating action steps to freakin' CRUSH them! 💥
#tlap#DolphinsInTreeshttps://t.co/lBO36i7AEU
A2: Try to find out their interests, engage them, talk without pressure, find ways to get them excited, find other children they can engage with that can model excitement and other emotions and draw them in; small lunch bunches or playgroups work well for this. #TLAP
A2: Collaboration, student talk time, groups and partner projects. Catching their attention and meeting their individual needs to ensure they feel welcomed and comfortable in the class and lesson. #tlap
A2 It is all about building relationships, in class and with the world. Getting to know each other, supporting each other and becoming a class family is of utmost importance. Also building global connections and makig an impact in the world is paramount. #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
A2: It's all about relationships. Never forget that #kidsarepeopletoo. Respect them. See them. Get to know them. Show them you care much more about them than about content, essays, projects, etc. #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
A2: Get to know their interests and give them a voice...use tools like @Flipgrid or so nnovatove ways for Ss to share and connect. #TLAP#DolphinsInTrees
A1 A2 We have to be intentional to help others make their dreams a priority. I love the REAL + #Innovator's Compass for keeping our innovative ideas at the forefront + creating action steps to freakin' CRUSH them! 💥
#tlap#DolphinsInTreeshttps://t.co/lBO36i7AEU
A2: I love finding ways to get students to connect to history and/or each other. Whether it’s gallery walks, collaboration projects, 1 on 1 meetings, transforming my room, dressing up. My goal is to teach history creatively and create the best experience possible. #tlap
A2: Creating magical beginnings are so important so students begin to bond and work as a team!
Relationships are everything! Here is a blog post I wrote about how I start the year. https://t.co/GG5MiTI7Vj#tlap#dolphinsintrees
A2 RELATIONSHIPS. Continuously build on them. From day one, or even before if you can. Show interest in what they’re sharing. Ask them about things they’ve shared with you. Spend unstructured time getting to know them. Really listen. High fives, hugs #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
A2 My school has established a schedule that allows for Ts to build relationships with Ss- eat lunch with Ss everyday, community time, and time to meet with Ss one on one weekly. #tlap#OneNest#WPSProud
A2 It is all about building relationships, in class and with the world. Getting to know each other, supporting each other and becoming a class family is of utmost importance. Also building global connections and makig an impact in the world is paramount. #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
A2 We build a culturee from day one built on student voice My 1st graders create our classroom agreements - we plan our year, and use classroom meetings to continually monitor what works and what doesn't. I guide and they come up with solutions. #TLAP
A2: Relationships have to be established & authentic learning must occur to close the relevance gap. Too many times we make students experience learning without the “why” #TLAP#DolphinsInTrees
A2: I focus on building relationships with each individual S and provide opportunities for the Ss to conned with each other!! I love using @KaganOnline structures to help Ss collaborate! #tlap
A2: The intentional use of children’s literature during morning meetings allows us to make connections to each others’ lives. We learn how to build each other up, increase our capacity to care for each other, & protect each others’ hearts. #DolphinsInTrees#TLAP
A2. Build relationships, get to know Ss, if a student is struggling, allow other Ss to help S and lead the way! Set up buddy helper system, or random pick. Set up a bench at recess for new Ss who don't have someone to play with. Ss will come and meet and play! #tlap
A2: I maintain a list of reliable students that are connected to various club, activities, etc that can help others connect. I pair Similar Ss. Lockers are grouped by grade, so most students have lockers by each other at my site.
#DolphinsInTrees#TLAPhttps://t.co/55GPOfUgUB
A2b: I conference with every student at least once a week to check in I. Their project but we also talk life and touch base about how they are feeling about school and just stuff want them to know I care about more than their grade #DolphinInTrees#tlap
A2 Get to know them a bit... make them feel like they matter, they are important, and they are an important part of the class. People connect when they feel needed... make it so. #tlap
A2) I feel its my responsibility to create in my classroom SHARED experiences. Since in teach chemistry and forensics, this would seem easy
But what my kids remember most is the conversations I have with them, how I treat them all with respect & ❤️
#tlap#DolphinsInTrees
#TLAP A2. Don't just tell them you are here for them show them by talking and building a relationship that allows them to create a path to believing they can be rock stars.
A2: For me, the first step is getting to know the students. This includes strengths, weaknesses, what drives them, what makes them tick and their interests. Once you know the students you are better able to understand how to make that connection. #Dolphinsintrees#tlap
A3:
Life's Rubric:
Is it kind? Is it honest? Will it improve the situation?
If you answered yes to all 3 questions, you can move ahead.
#TLAP#DolphinsInTrees
A2: I will be greeting Ss at the door w/high fives and smiles! I am working with Ts to develop student-centered lesson plans for the first days of school = responsive classroom, #tlap, LOTS of fun!! #ksedchat
A3. Talked about this at PD today. Being respectful, open and honest, and being present. It is important to know the core values and have them posted. #edt5335#TLAP
A3: If one raindrop raises the sea, imagine what an ocean of educators can do. Everyday we the opportunity to make a difference. Everyday we have a choice to be a positive force for change or a negative choice. Choose wisely. Make a positive difference. #tlap@ERobbPrincipal
So glad my flight to OK was delayed so I could jump on #TLAP! Boarding now. Congratulations @aaronpolansky ❤️❤️❤️So excited for you and #DolphinsInTrees
Hopping in late from VB! A2. You’ve got to keep trying and earn S trust. A special secret connection goes a long way for a kid that feels they need to build walls. #tlap
A1: From the beginning of the year my 5th graders and I discuss our personal dreams and aspirations. We read books about people who have accomplished amazing things and reflect on things we can do to reach our goals and dreams. #TLAP
A3: I believe in every student and fee they should have a chance to explore create and find their own passions, I want to be an inspiration to my scholars my children and others because I work hard for students #DolphinsInTrees#tlap
A2. A warming, welcoming classroom culture needs to be set from day 1. During the first days of school, students should have opportunities to practice collaboration skills, sharing activities and group problem solving activities, such as a "mystery box" game. #tlap
3)
A) Kids will always live up to our expectations when they know what the expectations are.
B) Bold Humility is the secret sauce for success. Celebrate boldly your God given gifts and humbly grow those areas of need.
#tlap
A3: Compassion, integrity, and excitement for learning. Hopefully, I can model an excitement for learning for my students that is contagious. #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
Q2: to help Ss connect I have them complete a student survey & find out their interests, then guide them towards options & follow up personally, it’s one of our class goals, getting involved #tlap
A3 it is important to guide, support & push students as well as members of our PLN. This doesn’t mean doing everything for them. Give them the tools & step aside. You will be amazing. One of my beliefs: don’t do for learners what they can do for themselves #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
A3
🌟✨🌟✨🌟✨🌟✨🌟
"Go to the people and the places
that set a spark in your soul"
🌟✨🌟✨🌟✨🌟✨🌟
Find the people that ignite your excitement
and support your passion.
THOSE are the people

A3: Treat others as you would want to be treated . Never give up. Live a life of courage, humility, loyalty, faith, and perseverance. Be thankful for everyone you meet and celebrate life. There is always someone watching, make them proud, motivate them and inspire them #tlap
#tlap A2: Our Early Childhood Teachers delivered personal invitations to(for a meet and greet bbq)each home with a book and fruit snacks last week. I also sent a welcome to my class card with a picture of myself and the student as I delivered the invite. #ECLCulture@jenvmeyer
A2: My school has what we call care teams where our Ss are able to meet with a group of Ss outside of their normal class and be led by another teacher once a month in activities that promote empathy. We work hard to show our Ss there are people there to support them #TLAP
A3: Kindness and good character are the core of everything.
Without good character, you have nothing.
Kindness impacts lives.
The cost of each: free! #tlap
A3: Fear often limits us from pushing ourselves outside our comfort zone. But, if for just one moment you could push fear away and be the risk you want your Ss to take, you will show them you are a person who means what they say. Look foolish and don't succeed. It's okay. #tlap
A3 my core values are to be Honest, Kind, Supportive, trustworthy and compassionate. Be a leader, innovative, creative, reflective and commit fully to being future driven. Show my passion and willingness to take risks #TLAP
A3: Although development tends to follow trends, but it does not abide by a timeline. Ss need us to think long range as we spend our 1 year together. I live for the outliers. #tlap
#tlap#dolphinsintrees A3: Whatever you learn, you earn. From there, the more you know, the further you'll go. Above all, become the best version of you, and that will get you through!
A1: Model risk taking in front of your students. Ask what they are passionate about. Allow them to explore their passions. Be the WILDCARD @WadeKing7@hopekingteach for your students! #tlap
In reply to
@aaronpolansky, @WadeKing7, @hopekingteach
A3: A focus on kids, a heart for giving
Encouraging them to build a life worth living
With passion, honesty, integrity too
One day at a time is all we can do! #TLAP
A3: I use this & teach this to my students as a base line to ground us. Often, our students experience failure & receive extremely negative feedback. This quote helps put the growth mindset as a realistic & positive lens. #TLAP#DolphinsInTrees
A1 I always love when students have a #choice and a #voice It gives them an opportunity to express themselves, but I also enjoy when they feel safe because the safety in the classroom gives them a chance to reach for the stars without fear and to fail forward what's support #tlap
A3. Honest, transparent, wrapped in positivity. Toss in some pineapple, an Aloha shirt, and a ukulele...these are the things that are essentially me. 🍍 #tlap
A3: Honesty is the train that drives me. I believe that you have to be honest with yourself and others. Being honest allows me to be an authentic and relationship-focused leader. #Dolphinsintrees#tlap
Agreed! They can sniff a fake out right away. Building and maintaining positive relationships requires daily tending to if they are to be successful. #TLAP
A4:
We've scheduled a full day of professional development for our staff on March 6, 2019 where the only rule is that they need to leave the building, or invite peers in, to expand their network in a way that will add to their teaching. Join us?
#DolphinsInTrees#TLAP
A3: my core values as a school leader are to bring fun and energy into learning, focusing on the three Rs of school (relationships, relationships, relationships) and ensuring equity and student growth are our guiding lights. #tlap
A4: Go for it! That one thing you want to try but were afraid to do it. Lead by example and do something you have been afraid to do and show how you learn from it. #TLAP#DolphinsInTrees
Preach! Sooner our kiddos grasp this, the better. Sometimes we perceive our potential to be far less than what we are actually capable of. Keep instilling this growth mindset. Game changer. #DolphinInTrees#TLAP
A4: As our school starts a 1:1 initiative this year, I want to challenge the Ts on my team to use it as more than a typewriter. I want to challenge the Ts at my school to use social media to tell their stories! #tlap@E_Sheninger@ERobbPrincipal
A4 I’m going to ask our teachers to continue to grow and share their passions with their students. We need to open up our students box of dreams and share our stories to inspire them. This will be a focus of our PD this year #TLAP
A4 I will continue to try and start a conversation with my co workers through a #flipgrid 'question of the week'. May try a different venue as well. #tlap
A4. I will encourage my students to continue trying, regardless of how hard it gets. I will encourage my team to broaden their view on using technology in the classrooms. #edt5335#TLAP
A4: Share my own vulnerability! If I'm a tech integrator and I can't master everything, it's OK that you can't either! Let's pick one thing and figure it out together. Fear is a battle of the mind, not a determination of the future! #tlap#DolphinInTrees
A4: Really trying to learn some new innovations this year and sharing some of those through blogging and YouTube. Half the fun of learning is giving back by sharing it with others. #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
A4: I'll model new tools and share some new rules; I'll make sure it's fun so they know it can be done; I'll challenge them to grow, and in the end they'll know; That the work that they put in, will make them champion #tlap - Poetry... or at least rhyming
A4: Stepping out of my box to be a model to try things they haven't before, building a safe, trusting, sharing community, and modeling kindness and positivity #TLAP
A4) I want to challenge thinking that puts adult needs before student needs. I want to shift the focus of discipline from “punishment” to “learning”. Some tough conversations ahead perhaps. #TLAP
A4: I’m challenging my students to collaborate and communicate with each other, find and use their interests, and challenge themselves with technology. #tlap
Attitudes are contagious. We can choose to be happy. Our decisions and not our conditions determine our destiny! Love this Henry! #TLAP#DolphinsInTrees
4) Risk taking requires trust. Trust requires vulnerability.
Share your flaws, your weakness, and your struggles. This will generate more confidence from others than your ability to pretend to know it all ever will. #tlap
A4: My big message for my team this year, that I started announcing today, is do what works for you and grows and engages kids. Think outside the box and be unique in what you do!ive challenged them to think different about teaching and how to help Ss celebrate success. #tlap
A4: I will challenge new teachers I mentor to #tlap, create experiences & adventures, #ditchHW, create S centered lessons, focus on collaboration & relationships #firstday
A4: Ever since I joined Twitter, I've been trying to find ways to encourage more educators who live in my area to join Twitter EDU & build a #PLN! Just a few hours ago I was rolling around some ideas in my mind. This would be a way I'd like to challenge people this year! #TLAP
A4: I want my students to understand challenges will arise, but it’s there willingness to push through that will make them succeed. We will do lots of reflection on learning this year and lots of goal setting. #TLAP
#tlap#dolphinsintrees A4: Everything is scary when it is new, trying to achieve it is something to do. Set small and achievable goals from the start, soon the lessons taught will be taken to heart.
A4 Every time we put faith in understanding the perspective of others we take a risk by sacrificing our own guards. I want to keep taking that leap and continue strengthening this tool for understanding. #tlap
A4 Don't just teach the "whats"... the "whys" usually matter more. Why does what you are teaching them matter? Why is it important to THEM, and no, it's not because it is on the test. Make sure Ts and admin are going there. #tlap
A4 We just developed a new set of "soft skills" for our school in conjunction with our PBIS program reboot. The challenge is; It's NOT a list of rules for kids, but a way of living, acting & conducting business within our school community #TLAP#Dolphinsintrees
A4. By encouraging Ss to take risks in doing projects, activities, experiments, synthesis, designing, creating, taking risks that they have never done or experienced! Asking open-ended questions in learning to get them to solve problems in learning! #tlap
A4: I'm a firm believer in being upfront and straightforward. I plan on being explicit/clear about what I expect and the greatness I know they can achieve. I will continue to check-in, encourage and coach them so they can be successful. I LOVE motivating! #Dolphinsintrees#tlap
#tlap I’m challenging fellow leaders and educators to remember to not get bogged down by Compliance, raise opportunities to grow and try something new.
A4 I hope to challenge myself and others to continuously step outside of the box, to push limits, to challenge status quo, to keep innovating and making things better. To never accept limits and put kids first at all times. Question everything. #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
A4: by using drawing starters, like story dice, drawing prompts, journal jumpstarts. (Things that will challenge creativity, but will still give some guidance.) #tlap#itsawesternthing
A4: We won’t let fear hold us back! We will take risks, fall, get back up again, and keep pushing forward!! There’s so much learning that occurs on this journey called life! I don’t want to miss out on an amazing opportunity because of fear! #tlap
A4: Fear of making a mistake is huge in my world. Especially when I’m working with smaller ensembles. “Be unafraid!” The top of the tree is scary, but the air is fresh and the view is great! #tlap#DolphinsinTrees
A2 each student needs to feel important like he/she belongs They have to be seen and heard I try to make a personal connection try to find one thing we have in common I also look at each person as they enter my room and make sure I say Hello, how are you today? #tlap
A3)
All of my students,
Big and small,
Get a heaping bowl of kindness,
Even in the hall!
Feed them with kindness,
Water with a positive light,
Let them know your rooting for them,
Day and night
#tlap#DolphinsInTrees
I think this is a great idea. #edtech is just another resource which requires quality planning, instruction, and reflection to be effective. To know if we are effective we need formative assessments. Did they learn? How do we know? #TLAP#edchat

A3: #tlap I model for the students thankfulness--even for the trials that help us grow. I build strong relationships too! It is all about #studentvoice and #studentchoice to garner #StudentSuccess!
#tlap I’m challenging fellow leaders and educators to remember to not get bogged down by Compliance, raise opportunities to grow and try something new.
A4 Will relentlessly work towards chiseling away at the barriers kiddos have built up based on their own perceptions of themselves & their abilities. Will rebuild with a strong sense of self-worth & a growth mindset. #DolphinsInTrees#TLAP
Absolutely! It’s tough to be vulnerable like that, esp in front of Ss, esp if your teacher training was in a time when Ts carried all the content knowledge. I find that the more I allow Ss and Ts to see the “real me” the easier it is to learn and grow together! #tlap
A3: I also think it's important to stay connected to your #PLN throughout the year. Teaching is exhausting, but keeping up with your peeps can keep you refreshed! #ksedchat
A4: I have some Ts I work with in a coaching model to morph their teaching, so challenging them to be more pirates and take risk and set sail to try new things with their SS is my goal this year. Took the first step last with a few to see @burgessdave#DolphinInTrees#tlap

A4: Thinking, collaborating & planning are necessary parts of ideas but many great initiatives have been destroyed by fear. The only thing that will defeat fear is taking action & fighting through the trials & difficulties #TLAP#DolphinsInTrees
A4: The challenge ==>
No one needs permission to be awesome tomorrow.
I plan to be awesome. Every school day. Every.
I hope you will as well.
#TLAP#DolphinsInTrees
A4: By being a risk-taker myself. By being open and honest with others to let them know they can be open and honest with me. By learning every single day. #tlap#dolphinsintrees
Sometimes you just have to Cannonball in WITH that one you’re encouraging! Just JUMP. Do it! You won’t drown; you’ll swim. And, when we jump together, we empower each other.
CANNONBALL IN!
#tlap#DolphinInTrees@tishrich + 🙋🏽♀️ = show y’all how it’s done🤣😉💦
A4 - While I think challenge can be beneficial, I think for some people “inspire” is what’s needed. If we model success in the class and provide wisdom to those who need help, the results can be transformative. #tlap
A5:
We hand out starfish pins when someone goes above & beyond.
Recently heard about a school that rolls a cart out with food & drink for teachers & students every Friday. They have music & rotate from class to class throughout the year. Love this idea.
#DolphinsInTrees#TLAP
A3 Teaching is all about kindness, heart, compassion and students. We must always lead with our hearts, be in the service of others and look to making an impact and have the world be a better place. I want to do my part in this. #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
A6: I do everything from telling them they are doing great to making things for them. spread the gratitude that they make a different every day. #TLAP#DolphinsInTrees

#tlap#DolphinsInTrees This years theme - sailing ! We are setting sail on an adventure! Each CTE program may be it’s own boat, but all together we are a fleet! A ship isn’t built to stay safe in the harbor, but we can return when we need to regroup before we set sail again!
A5 Staff shoutouts on social media and handwritten are super powerful. Go into classrooms to support eachother and volunteer for others to see your craft among students. #TLAP
A4. We're using a new curriculum, we've got a new theme, there's no stopping us though, we'll integrate STEAM. We'll wrap math in connections to the world all around us, add sustainability, mix in tech, it'll be monumentous! 🍍 #tlap
A5: Shoutouts at staff meetings, @smore newsletters, on twitter and emails. Also send handwritten notes and go see them in person and tell them they ROCK! #tlap#dolphinsintrees
A5 little random acts of kindness go a long way. I love coffee runs in the morning, or sharing cookies at lunch. People who feel valued will also do more! I make sure the people I appreciate know it, always ❤️ #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
A5 I try to support the teachers of my caseload students as much as possible- they have a ton on their plates and students have healthier experiences when teachers feel strong and healthy. Reading The Balanced Teacher Path right now for inspiration! #tlap
#tlap A4: Everyday in my classroom there is a challenge overcoming fear. We use ABA therapy for students who qualify for it. Everyday is a celebration of overcoming fear. Encouragement, reinforcement, & acknowledgement; that is how I will help others overcome fear. #ECLCulture
A5: we have a company wide recognition program as one tool. After PD today, I utilized it to recognize my team and their awesome engagement today. I also write a lot of hand written notes about how I appreciate them and recognize the hard work they’re putting in. #tlap
A3 help others feel they are valued be a good listener support everyone cheer them on when they succeed be there to pick them up when they fall have a positive attitude smile a lot and just let people know you care but never stop pushing them to be the best they can be #tlap
A5 I have my own stationary for notes of appreciation from the principal's desk.I always think about "where the wild things are" That's the good stuff, that's in classrooms! That's where I show appreciation & support #TLAP#Dolphinsintrees
A5: I make a point to connect with others on a personal level and spotlight Ts with "anchor of appreciation" notes, small surprises, shout-outs on my website and in social media. A quick, but heartfelt, compliment in the hallway goes a long way, too! #tlap#dolphinsintrees
A5. Take little breaks and talk with staff! Ask questions, find out what different things they are doing in the classrooms that are special or unique! Compliment someone! Spread kindness! #tlap
A5 write personal notes share the great things they are doing on social media, tell our kids and parents how proud and excited I am for students to experience what our teachers are doing. Send out shout outs on email. Recognize staff in meetings #TLAP
A5: We have Teacher Hero slips where we recognize staff for the great things we see them do. They are read at staff meetings. We also have Student Hero slips to recognize Ss who go above and beyond the call of duty. #tlap
For sure! They laugh at my need for a Twitter-Intervention, but boy they love when I tweet what they're doing, hahaha! I like to encourage THEM to tweet it (walking them through it as many times as needed) then I RETWEET their awesome, lol! #tlap
A5: As a Summer School leader I would give sticky notes with positive feedback when coaching my teachers and shout outs lots of shout out in staff meetings or student assembly #DolphinsInTrees#tlap
"It’s a practice derived from a movement in education known as restorative justice, an approach to discipline that replaces punishment with repairing harm. "
I want to learn more about this. Any great resources??
#tlap#KidsDeserveIt#LeadLAPhttps://t.co/z7EnNKNFZh
A5: I tell people the great things they are doing. Word of mouth always travels. I give shout outs through email at times, stop in and give them with a cheer especially in front of the students, and other times I write notes. I mix it up and try to do what gets a smile. #tlap
A5: I would mail them a thankful letter (about them) to their home on Thanksgiving and mail a thank you note in the spring indicating why I was grateful for them to be apart of the staff #tlap
As a teacher, I bring other teachers into my classroom, either physically, or by crossreferencing their classes. As a coach, I stop into new teacher classrooms and give feedback. I also ask my coworkers for advice. There is a wealth of knowledge and experience to be gained! #tlap
A5: These kindergarten kindness ninjas did random acts of kindness to remind campus staff of just how much they matter! You are spe-shell! 🐚 #DolphinsInTrees#TLAP
A5 Look for the little things. Create some powerful moments as you recognize what makes other staff members special. Show them that you see them, you appreciate them. Do it regularly, be different and unique. Help others smile and feel special. #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
Simple - treat each child if they were your own- w/love, trust, respect, & high expectations. As a principal I ask of my teachers- would I want my own child in that class? & to push myself I ask would I want my own child to attend the school I lead? #YES! #tlap
A5. Good news cards can go home to teachers as well as students. Good leaders take less than their share of the credit and more than their share of the blame. #tlap
A5: 5th grade class wrote post it notes about each staff member and why they were special and posted on their classroom doors #tlap This was a game changer!
A5: To recognize staff, you have to know staff. Build relationships. Visit classrooms. Lift up and celebrate all of the awesomeness you see (b/c you will see lots). #tlap#dolphinsintrees
A5: I try to follow my heart when I have something I think they need to hear! I hunt them down and share it! I also send emails, nominate them for district awards, and building wide "you're awesome" notes stating specifically what I love they are doing #TLAP
Last year we had a lot of class splits due to lack of subs. One afternoon I surprised all my teachers with "splits for the splits" (treated them all to banana splits in the teacher's lounge). #tlap
A5 - Little things:
* greet them in the hall
* walk in the class to just say “hi”
* drop post it notes in a mailbox
* FOOD👍
* Meetings that aren’t related to content. #tlap
A4: I want to continue to push my limits and model an engaging classroom! I feel this will challenge my peers’ thinking. Then I want to challenge my grade level group to implement a lesson based on tlap! #tlap
A5:Drop anchors of appreciation on a daily basis. Face to face conversations, emails, handwritten notes, social media posts, shout outs in newsletters, recognition at community meetings/faculty meetings. Staff/students should feel special and in turn, your school will be! #tlap
Simple - treat each child if they were your own- w/love, trust, respect, & high expectations. As a principal I ask of my teachers- would I want my own child in that class? & to push myself I ask would I want my own child to attend the school I lead? #YES! #tlap
A5: I give shout outs on twitter and share the great lessons; I recognize their contributions at staff meeting sessions; I have conversations that make them feel proud, and I make sure they're recognized in many ways loud! #tlap
A5: I love giving high-fives, fist bumps and f2f praise. I also enjoy giving positive shout-outs during staff meetings. My school also has a brag board for staff members. We put random notes about great things out co-workers have done. #Dolphinsintrees#tlap
A1: By creating an environment where students feel safe to share their thoughts and open ended questions. Always leaving students to want to question and learn more. #tlap
A4 encourage people to believe in themselves challenge them to think outside the box ask them to push themselves just a little bit and then a little bit more and be there to root for them and to let them know it's ok and no one will judge them encourage positive reflection #tlap
#tlap A5: Thank you notes, success parties, appreciation gifts (candy, lip balm, hand lotion, etc.), putting up a note on the brag the wall about them. #ECLCulture
A5 In my school we often make time to give complements in a meeting.(just like our kids do ) It's a great way to acknowledge the work we are all doing. #TLAP
A3 - Core values: Each day I come to school is the chance to help make the lives of students better, more positive and passionate about learning. #tlap
A5: If I was a P, I’d be all over this...our school doesn’t do this well :-( This is something I’m going to do more of this year, on my own. I like the idea of having stationary ready to go. It’s so important to recognize good things when you see them, instant feedback! #tlap
A5 I'll go back to my answer to Q4... Teachers have to know why they matter. Too often we don't get recognized because 'others will feel left out' Why would they feel left out? We all have strengths, find them and praise them. Build us up... spoken from a T, not an admin. #tlap
This year I have created a way for students and staff to recognize other staff for doing great things. It’s a work in progress. Stay tuned or DM me if you would like updates on successes and pitfalls. #TLAP
A5-b. “Sure thing, send ___ my way for a little chat.” I get it that I am not tied to a classroom, so I try to lend my flexibility out where I can #tlap#counselorsarethecoolaunts
Our #ncties18 theme was "What Box?" I loved it! The idea of suggesting to just get rid of the box completely gave me goosebumps! The #ncties19 theme is pretty dope too, just saying! #nailedit#tlap
A6:
Our team works hard to get out & see teachers & students. Work will be there when the bell rings.
Remember your "why".
Conferences & twitter chats always leave me inspired.
#DolphinsInTrees#TLAP
A4. #tlap#DolphinsInTrees. I will challenge students to do work for themselves as opposed to doing it for me or for grade. Including choice and technology help to challenge. I will also stretch myself to model.
We do this, too!! We start meetings with “bouquets” where we show colleagues appreciation and share it with the group! Feel-good for sure!! #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
A5b: not many of my coworkers are super connected yet some love when I will tweet out pictures of their class to show off what they do #tlap#DolphinInTrees
A2: Besides the obvious of building a relationship with that Ss, try to set up situations where that Ss can find a peer that they work well with. #tlap
A6: LET GO OF FEARS!! Step outside the box and be adventurous. Take the Ss on a trip they and you haven’t experienced. Be ok with making a mistake and growing from that. Be you and sail away! #tlap
A6: Join #tlap and reach out online! It has been a “stuck on an island year” I’m feeling inspired to “be the change” I wish to see in our school! #tlap#dolphinsintrees
A6: Connect with my Twitter PLN and spend time playing with my three kids! Sometimes we need to step away and rediscover joy in order to refill our cup to serve others once again! #tlap#dolphinsintrees
A6 I am always looking to refine my practice. Twitter is a huge part of that growth! Also conferences like #BLC18. Teachers learn from other teachers! (and not just the ones that are in our buildings) #TLAP
A6: I have done walkabouts. Sometimes just getting away from everything, heading to your favorite quiet spot or to where you know you can smile at home. Helps to get me off the island. #TLAP#DolphinsInTrees
A6: I'm learning to get off the island and I'm finding out what Twitter has to offer. So many people to share ideas with and learn from. The first step was the hardest for me. #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
A5: We use our pineapple classrooms and tweet out their amazing lessons to our hashtag. Our district has 8 buildings, so if you aren't able to make it you can follow along AND it celebrates that amazing learning experiences taking place! #tlap
A6: The other coach & myself wanted to promote that welcoming culture as well as being comfortable w/ visiting & having others visit you! We started #323pineapple classrooms & seeing these posters spread throughout K-12 made my ❤️ full! 🍍 #ThePepperEffect#tlap
A6 we have used pineapple charts in the past and I have offered to watch classss for teachers if they want to see another teacher’s lesson. We like to have teachers share their knowledge in PD activities we do a few Edcamp days in our afternoon PD during the year #TLAP
A6: Twitter and conferences are my set sail times. When chatting with my PLN or connecting with my long lost peeps, I feel the winds fill my sails. #tlap#moedchat
A6 - Try to take little steps each day. Maybe it’s a phone call home, a joke to class, something positive to a colleague. Or maybe just taking a deep breathe and hitting the gym! #tlap
A6: I do my fair share of car dancing... on my way to get to WiFi and Twitter as quickly as possible! My #PLN is constantly rickrolling me! They never give me up, never let me down, never run around, and desert me... #tlap
#tlap#DolphinsInTrees. Sailing stationary ready to write positive notes, celebrate birthdays each month, emails with jokes pertaining to CTE program, classroom pop ins just to say hi or share Small but meaningful n personable conversation.
A5: #DolphinsInTrees#TLAP I get out there and #XLAP! I throw myself out there--I start small with basic chit chat, then try to connect on at least one thing. This helps me remember all 180+ staff members at my site too! Life is about connecting with others! @assurelearning
A6: I try to get to as much PD as I can to build the toolbox and talk to teachers to swap lesson ideas and strategies. I also use Twitter 2-3 times a week to keep contact with my PLN. #tlap
A5: I use something I learned while visiting the Ron Clark Academy and through reading Ron’s books: address every single staff member with a “Hello (name)!” Followed by a question, whenever I see them for the first time that day! It is also an expectation of my students. #tlap
A6 I reach out and connect and collaborate I try to not be scared to ask for help and not live with in my four walls, my building, my distict, my region, my state and so own to many great minds out here willing to help #DolphinsInTrees#tlap
A6 I try to keep pushing limits and find fun & creative ways to look at learning. I love to collaborateand exchange ideas with others PLN members to create memorable experiences for all students. Been planning some epic ideas for back to class at the end of the month. #tlap
A4) the MAIN way I challenge my students is to be better HUMANS
Show kindness to others...
Be respectful to each other and yourself...
Help one another...
Be kind to yourself and respect yourself...
Be patient with those in need & w/ those who need
#DolphinsInTrees#TLAP
#TLAP A6. Collaborate, collaborate and more collaboration. I visit classrooms, ask for help, and take time to join in Twitter chats to increase my knowledge and the inspiration they provide.
A6. Try new things. Take risks! Investigate new material and different approahes! Collaborate with peers for different ideas! Research! Learning is never-ending! #tlap
A6: I stepped off my island by opening up Twitter, sharing and receiving ideas through multiple platforms, and reading books. It changed my teaching career! #tlap
A6 Always surround myself with people who remind me of my why and who understand me! These gems know just how to support, encourage, and push me! Kind of like this incredible #tlap crew! 💕 #DolphinsInTrees
I love that @aaronpolansky is moderating #tlap -I read his book 4 times already, my entire family has read it & it sits proudly on display in my office to share w/others #DolphinsInTrees
A6: Go beyond classroom, campus, & district walls by developing & actively contributing to a growing PLN of passionate people working toward making the world a better place by investing their time, energy, and care into the lives of others! #DolphinsInTrees#TLAP
A6. To set sail. I learn from others and build the relationships necessary for others to help me get off the island. None of us can do it on our own. #TLAP
A6b - We have to be careful not to spread ourselves too thin. Often times we do so much that it becomes taxing on the body and mind. Goals that are meaningful and attainable is a key. #tlap
A4: Change mindset that tech can only be used as engagement, is a distraction or an extra. Rather it is a tool/resource that will be part of every student’s career and use it purposefully to take learning places previously dreamed about. #tlap
Teaching and being a leader both can become lonely. Having a PLN helps. Reading books and blogs help. Connecting with like minded people helps. #DolphinInTrees#tlap
Unless you pull up beside me at a stoplight... then, the phones come out and videos are created. Luckily I've not found one yet, lol! I'm clubbin' from the waist up, hahaha! #tlap
A5 Recognition is not something Ts seek out but it is so appreciated when they receive it A positive tweet or a positive note in their mailbox a cup of coffee a piece of chocolate a little bit of #Swag even a sticker some small token to let them know they are appreciated #tlap
#tlap#dolphinsintrees A6:
Find the box to thinking outside of and find an escape route,
coming up with new things to do will be the escape from stale way out!
An island is only as isolated as you make it,
so take the risks needed to create a great hit.
A6: #DolphinsInTrees#TLAP I #build-figuratively and literally! I love building #sandcastles at the beach to unwind! I also connect with family and friends! Usually over my favorite beverage--#coffee!
A6. Step back, take a walk, breathe in some fresh air. Inspiration abounds just about everywhere. Try a new angle, a different point of view. It always works for me, and I think it'll work for you. 🍍 #tlap

A5 To get off my island I can send a quick tweet. Twitter is the place edus can meet. You’re #bettertogether no matter what others say. Connect, learn, & share is the way. #tlap#DolphinInTrees
A3 #tlap inspire students to be the best version of themselves, to see beyond themselves and to become part of the global community. Inspire students to keep reaching and learning
A7:
Sometimes we don't know our impact on a student until years beyond the interaction. Growth is important. A strong sense of self is a must. Students need to love who they are, love what they do, and help others do the same.
#DolphinsInTrees#TLAP
A6: I find people that belong to my “tribe” so to speak! I talk and collaborate with these people as much as possible. I also have conversations with my own kids, yes my kids! They have amazing ideas that excite me and are truly on the ground level of my planning. #tlap
A7: Those moments when you really have them. When every student is leaned in, excited, with a big smile on their face. Those are the moments. #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
A7: I have many but the most important is the smile on a child's face and when I hear them say they can't wait until tomorrow. Once we have them hooked, we are in the ballgame and success will happen #tlap
A6: Pick the brains of my buddies at school, engage w/ my PLN peeps here on Twitter, read a lot, experiment w/ new lessons, & tweak those stagnant lessons. #tlap
A7: Have they matured, have they grown in authenticity, are they choosing to be kind more often, have they learned something (anything) they didn't know before? Then... they are successful. #tlap
A7:
Love what @casehighprinc has done with the last days of school at Case High School in MA. Passion Days instead of Final Exams. Great stuff. Help them find their passion.
#DolphinsInTrees#TLAP
A7 As a former coach I never mentioned winning 2my team-it was a byproduct of doing the small things very well. We focus on being of strong character, work ethic, perseverance & effort. I hire ppl w/those skills-never asked someone how they scored on a state mandated test #tlap
A7 Success should be measured with the students. It should be based on their goals, hopes and dreams. Be there to support them, to cheer for them, to challenge them, to make them better. Have students want to be there and smile. #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
Love. I stole the idea of the Twitter Fairy from @BethHouf ! Super fun. Go around and give glitter and Twitter fairy love to the ones sharing their EDUawesomeness! #TLAP#DolphinsInTrees
I have! It’s more challenging with the younger grades, but I do some modifications to it. I really focus on teaching replacement skills when they lack the skills to be successful. I talk with my Ts about “skill vs will”. Often it’s some sort of a skill deficit. Teach them! #TLAP

A3: My North is simply to help make life better for others. It really is that simple. How? show kindness, having high expectations, giving grace, putting my feet in another shoes, remind people that we have the potential to make great things happen. #tlap
A6: Attend conferences such as #WGEDD where leading change agents share the work they are doing & inspire you with their compelling call to action! Dive into @dbc_inc books & other works of literature that will help you keep growing! #DolphinsInTrees#TLAP
A7 My biggest measure of success is that my 1st graders leave my classroom as self directed learners. They know how to ask questions, find answers, self regulate and persist when things get hard. They also LOVE to learn #TLAP
A7: Whenever I hear the phrase, "Your class was challenging, but I had fun and I actually learned," or something to that effect, I feel like I've been successful. #tlap
A7: Engagement, how they greet me and my Ts, their enjoyment levels when they come into the school. Their drive to want to tell others how well they did. Motivation and drive summed up! #tlap
A7:
Are they happy?
Are they safe?
Are they caring?
Are they principled?
Are they thinkers?
Are they risk-takers?
Are they learners?
#tlap#dolphinsintrees
A7: Have I helped them to explore their interest, I have I helped them work out their creativity muscles do they love learning more than when they started my class #tlap#DolphinInTrees
This summer I took my grandson to the Wvel Knievel Museum in Topeka and we also visited the Brown v. Board of Education historical site. It was a tremendous day. #DbcChallwnge#TLAP
If my gamification theme is something like Social Life for my Interpersonal Relationships course, each of the 8 classes would each be a social network (Twitte, Snapchat, etc), what could the groups within the class be? #XPLAP#TLAP#GBL#EdChat Appreciate it!
A7 Ss meeting personal goals, Ss staying in class and learning, Ss accomplishing task they couldn't at the beginning of the year, joy of reading & writing. #tlap
A7: Do I take assessment into account..yes. But my favorite way to gauge success is when I have students that don’t want to leave my room at the end of the school year. Success doesn’t always come in the form of a number. #TLAP
So awesome! Each time I read here I learn from my #PLN I think I’ve been truly doing the “CANNONBALL IN” for my year on twitter! Thank you all for so much inspiration and the push to be better! #tlap#BeReal#LeadLap
A4 Sometimes you just have to Cannonball in WITH that one you’re encouraging! Just JUMP. Do it! You won’t drown; you’ll swim. And, when we jump together, we empower each other.
CANNONBALL IN!
#tlap#DolphinInTrees@tishrich + 🙋🏽♀️ = show y’all how it’s done🤣😉💦
A7 Success is a goal achieved, an accomplishment finished, and a journey. Showing growth in any field shows what a student can do. Every little bit counts. #TLAP
A7: Success is not measured by numbers, my dear, but by confidence that grows throughout the year. It may not look the same for you and for me, but cannot compare a giraffe and a tree. #DolphinsInTrees#tlap
A7 Kids aren’t a score or grade. You measure success by the person that’s made. Are they kinder, wiser, and more curious? That’s success, I’m serious. #tlap#dolphinsintrees
A7 progress is completely personal! I want to see my students happy! I want them to find joy in learning and learn about things they are passionate about! Essential life skills being developed. They feel they belong and have a place that is irreplaceable #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
A6: I find people that belong to my “tribe” so to speak! I talk and collaborate with these people as much as possible. I also have conversations with my own kids, yes my kids! They have amazing ideas that excite me and are truly on the ground level of my planning. #tlap
Thanks so much for an awesome chat @aaronpolansky - I loved #DolphinsInTrees from the moment I opened it! Amazing things coming from @dbc_inc! Don't forget to follow one another #tlap! Thanks for letting me learn with you!
A7. Little moments that show that they value others and themselves, like kind gestures, self-regulating before reentering a classroom, being a good friend, smiling in the hallways, etc. #tlap#buildingacommunity
A7: The pride Ss feel when they recognize their own growth. The joy they display when they make someone smile. The awe they embrace when they know they can persevere and do just about anything! #tlap#DolphinsInTrees
#tlap#dolphinsintrees A7: Tests are only one way to measure success, above all, recognize Ss who are trying their best.
Success can be measured one problem or moment at a time,
but by the end of the day or the year, did the Ss achieve something that lets them shine?
A7: are students problems solvers? Discovering their interests? Stepping out of their comfort zones and creating? Helping and respecting each other? If yes, yes, yes and yes then that’s growth and learning to me. #tlap
A7. What have they learned from the lessons? Are they able to relate the skills that they have learned and apply to problem solving? How have they demonstrated this? Can they discuss what they learned? Are they being kind to one another? #tlap
