Hi #scitlap! Megan, 8th Science, D122 in Oak Lawn, IL. I am definitely a boxer, then a wrapper - I don't like weirdly shaped gifts, so if they're not square or rectangular to begin with, they get boxed first!
DianaLyn Perkins 6 & 7 grade science in Texas. I am a bagger. I find I don’t have the patience to wrap or unwrap…want to get to the good stuff! #scitlap
Q1: Planning ahead can help you find the perfect gift. What is your plan to start with excitement once your learners return or keep excitement over the break? #scitlap
A1: Jump right back in as soon as we return - no rest! @FOSSscience provides so many engaging, hands-on activities, so it doesn't even feel like "work" to the kids most days! #scitlap
Q1 I start the new year with the CA comprehensive Sex Ed unit with added info on nutrition & hygiene. Very few absences. Kids appreciate my stand-up comedy routines. #scitlap
A2: I feel like I don't have any "unusual" sources....usual suspects like Pinterest and here on Twitter. Need to get more involved w/ edu-blogs, YouTube channels, etc. #scitlap
A2 @youtube especially for my gaming class, @Pinterest, @twitter chats like this one, a random article that I read, my teaching partners will give me ideas too from chats about their subjects. #scitlap
I have to admit I am a bit of a podcast junkie and I love my Feedly. What do you use to keep up with the blogs? And what is you’re blog address? #scitlap
a3 My ss love when they get to responsible for teaching the lesson. Need to work that in more in the future (BUT need to work on soft deadlines to check accuracy!) #scitlap
A3 I dress up as a fictional unsafe former college roommate for a lab safety lesson. Ss keep asking when my former roommate is coming back in to teach. Maybe a reprise role? #scitlap
I never had that problem and I used it last year also! Interesting! Have you heard of @SpiralEducation? It's similar but you can do more with it! #scitlap

Q4: Tweeking a gift can make a good item great. What is a lesson that you have changed up to make it better for your learners -- OR--what is a lesson you would like some help to adjust? #scitlap
A4: Had a class today struggling to understand the relationship between particles in different states of matter. Dropped the textbooks and online simulation in favor of getting them up & moving around, becoming the particles! #scitlap
It seems overtime I can get my kids moving as they learn it is a win. I had them label themselves and then line up in order for levels of organization. They explained what they were and finally got it. #scitlap
We are doing more ADI (Argument Driven Inquiry) It takes a bit, but I think my kids are getting better at the lab design process and the analysis. #scitlap
6th grade students preparing their act it outs on how Earth's systems affects its surface. 8th graders were simulating earths rotation vs revolution around the sun. #scitlap#scichat#LearnLAP
A4: I really want to do a mock Energy Summit and discuss the different energy sources being used around the world. Working to wrap my head around the details. #scitlap
A5: Element pixel art, courtesy of @MarianaGSerrato. "Paul Buns" (Paul Bunyon) is hanging on my Bravo Board as we speak. Makes me laugh every day. #scitlap
I love the real world problems in my @AmplifyScience units with simulations but always looking to add more lab activities. I am still teaching some units for first time. Next year! #scitlap
I find I use a new curation tool every few years. Right now my favorite is the Chrome add-on Toby Mini. It is pretty powerful to help keep track and organize. #scitlap
A5 I love when the product is something I never thought of. When a Ss's interpretation is different than what was expected. I love to be amazed by my Ss. #scitlap
I don’t use it for data. I use it to keep track of websites I want to use again for resources. It organizes things into folders and lets you add as many as you wnt. #scitlap
I asked my Ss last week how they could use the knowledge they now had. My answers let me know I need to do a better job of connecting it to life. #formativeforme#scitlap
Q7: Sometimes you give the perfect gift to...yourself. Share out some of your favorite twitter chats, besides #scitlap, or PD conference/event and something you learned from it. #scitlap
I went to my first #edcamp this year. I think the best takeaway was a more @TheEdsaneT shared with me on formative assessment. It is a topic I am always looking at for new resources. #scitlap
I'm guessing we are all familiar with #learnlap Monday 8EST and #tlap Monday 9EST. @EdCampGrafton is in the spring (March or April). @usmspark is in June, but I wish it was July. Both conferences are afull of amazing educators and topics. #scitlap

Twitter is amazing. I like how I can put something out there and usually get a response or at least a thought partner. Having a tribe makes it so much more powerful. #’s have superpowers! #scitlap

Reach out to your PLN. If someone doesn’t have a lesson odds are someone will be willing to help you figure out how to polish yours to make it shine. #scitlap
