A1: I like the Vision statement below. But is it complete? Does it make you feel safe to take risks? https://t.co/cbpLziXF8B
Yeah Carlie you are here!!! This is going to be a fun https://t.co/WhhaEOXOzd
Evening ! Carlie from WI, 3-5 multiage teacher. Love that your facilitating 😄.
Hey followers, make sure to grow your tonight and connect with the great people in this chat!
A1 Our mission is for all students to learn, grow, and experience success. Love that growth & success can come in many forms
happy to be able to join the great minds of !
A1. Mission is that all Ss learn. It isn't explicit on innovation or creativity, but it's expected from Ts, based on tasks, PD.
A1 my vision is all about student growth and progress, offering multiple opportunities and choice for learning for all kids.
A1: The one that guides me: Empower individuals to be architects & advocates in their journey of learning.
Every child learns differently - requires different help&wants to feel proud, so the classroom must make space for that success
A1: As we move away from standardization (having all kids do the same thing in the same way) how can the vision statement help?
Love this that focus is on learners and their growth - Thanks! https://t.co/eYUf8NoCV7
A1 Our mission is for all students to learn, grow, and experience success. Love that growth & success can come in many forms
Good evening! Chris here from Ontario.
A1 would like to see it move from all students to learn, grow, and experience success to include both Ts & Ss
A1: Here’s a video with perspective on vision and values: School leadership: Vision and Values https://t.co/XgPI00FN6L
A1: Here’s a video with perspective on vision and values: School leadership: Vision and Values https://t.co/wYklhjx6tu
innovation is huge part of learning - we must create space for that kind of risk taking for sure
A1: We are still working on reworking our vision, but it includes voice, choice & different learning environments for Ts and Ss
Glad you could join us tonight Chris!!
A1) Am very proud of our district's vision - Learn. Share. Innovate. Inspire. Yes - PL is in our plan https://t.co/W1JpYPL9VO
Rachel, T and Tech integrator from NY
Agreed! I can attest to it in my classroom, but can't for others. Maybe it needs to be explicit for some.
A1 Significant learning occurs, learning that makes a difference-in S’s mindset develpmnt; with choices S makes as matures.
love it! still working on our vision, but it includes voice, choice & different learning environments for Ts and Ss
Hi, Cheryl from NC jumping in late, in a 1:1 school.
We are getting closer to my vision of what school could be, but aren't there yet by any means.
being able to articulate the goal helps a lot - when we know the end, we can work backward toward it
A1: A vision statement can bring together stakeholders to have a focus on how they want to educate their learners
A1: my vision is to provide meaningful learning opportunities and meet the needs of each learner.
Awesome! Thanks for joining us tonight Cheryl!!
Does your vision & the vision of others in your school have a common language?
A1 A space of lrners dev awareness of themselves& others w/in the context of their community xperiencing/growing their interests
Yes provide flexible time, encourage creativity, risk-taking, learners w agency https://t.co/BnDqiIJ42V
innovation is huge part of learning - we must create space for that kind of risk taking for sure
Keep the convos going with Q2 coming up in 1 minute!
No to question 1. Our mission & vision does not use those terms.
I want to have "school" to have the ability to meet all Ss needs. Whatever that might be.
this is my mission and vision too! When this is the guiding mantra, imagine the possibilities!
the more explicit we make it, the easier it will be to make sure we all do it. Can't assume anything
A1: Our Mission: To serve our students through excellence in Catholic education.
Keep the convos going with Q2 coming up in 1 minute! https://t.co/E4dwZCmpZ6
Media team putting some good things in motion for , appreciate the efforts boys
yup, we can't expect all kids to get it at the same time or deliver what they know uniformly - not realistic
My vision is that some attend brick and mortar when THEY need it and don't when they don't need it.
A physical space that is accommodating to the unique needs and preferences of Ss, and invites inquiry is a good starting point.
Agreed! But can also be bland & say the same things as most other schools. "all students will learn at high levels...."
I just read Ted Dentersmith's Most Likely To Succeed and my vision is still in development
Hello! Rosa Isiah, Elem school principal in Cali
A1: Our Vision: Inspired by Christ. Learning together. Serving together.
A2: R U 2 busy to improve? Too many other initiatives? Personalization means weighing what is important https://t.co/cXwBTo73QG
I would also like staggered times. Ts could work shifts. Might benefit them also if they aren't morning people. Why only 7-3?
My vision for all learners is that learning doesn't have to occur within brick & mortar buildings or trad school hours.
It is about the Learners and their future in how they will become global citizens who will make this a better place!
A2: Avoiding conflict to appease those not wanting change won't help students & causes conflict within https://t.co/WIkwlqZPms
The biggest obstacle bringing others to the vision and existing in spaces that don't match my vision. tolerance is dwindling.
A2) I think one of the things holding us back is the current EDU system still requires conformity....
Classes must always speak to the individual as well as the group. Start in the middle, then work and down to reach all
A2: constant demands to PROVE it in traditional ways when the power is so very evident in qualitative ways.
if you are too busy to improve you need to find something else 2do with your life. Cheating Ss if u aren't improving
I like that modeling is in your plan, a significant aspect, one that I believe requires all to work at being on board.
A2 a need to collaborate and create a culture of TEAM to implement. My vision is lonely often
A2 a desire to maintain content expertise.
A2: We need to help model what PL looks like and feels like for our decision makers who learned in a standardized environment.
A2: It will take a great deal of work, planning and team building to create a culture that supports https://t.co/f6kpIAk5Hp
Yes Tom Learning is all about improving - it is about weighing what is important https://t.co/bID4SghqlJ
A2: R U 2 busy to improve? Too many other initiatives? Personalization means weighing what is important https://t.co/cXwBTo73QG
Good evening! Come and join the great convos!
A2: if society trusted educators, change wouldn't be so hard. raise us up!
A2: barriers include the belief that all children can achieve. For some, there's a disconnect between talking and DOING
I went on quite a rant yesterday. Bad when I'm concerned about Ts learning and they aren't. 😠😕
I really like that idea! We have "pockets" that are doing it - but it has not been adequately shared!
Getting Students Ready For Portfolio Conferences - Work in Progress - Education Week Teacher https://t.co/baqFHi5zun
Welcome Laura so glad you are here and jumped into the convos https://t.co/jFTBKWJCam
A2 a desire to maintain content expertise.
Talking with each student about what he/she needs and then helping each reach those goals... that's the way we do it
Teachers need to unstandardize their classroom. It's not about me or you...but EVERY student.
A very good point made by https://t.co/D2rYsTcDGn
A2: We need to help model what PL looks like and feels like for our decision makers who learned in a standardized environment.
A2: We also need to rethink traditional learning spaces esp. w/ any opportunities when renovation/new construction are possible.
unfortunately we aren't all on board with the fact that change is inevitable.
I sometimes wonder if we do not work on Big
Welcome so glad you joined us in Now the convos are going to rock!! https://t.co/ouiHJnXdBW
A2: if society trusted educators, change wouldn't be so hard. raise us up!
Anyone who hasn't read by NEEDS to!!
I sometimes feel we may not focus on Big Rocks nor have the right ppl on the team.
Hi everyone! Just lurking tonight!
agree... sometimes the little rocks become our focus and priorities
A2: I also don’t think we ask our student stakeholders what THEY want in a learning environment. That is a MUST DO!
A1: Vision and mission statements need to be brief, doable, memorable & impactful...requiring 'unpacking so meaningful for all.
A2: we have to see evey child as a Learner if we want to create a culture of learners.
BINGO!RT I don’t think we ask our student stakeholders what THEY want in a learning environment. That is a MUST DO!
My Grad students are going to be doing this a LOT this year as I to eliminate grades... Following ur lead!
A2 my motto is a little (at least) every day...priorities based on students needs. Students can't grow if you don't.
no one denies change is needed..we can't change anything but our culture! Start with culture! that is in our control
yes, that's why I push the beauty of Twitter, edcamps, & learning outside our school doors!
a2 Seems like we should be past "that is the way we do it here" - but unfortunately not
We need to teach them to productively confront conflict heading home on &dev strategies for growth
Your book is on my to-read book pile right in front of me! So excited to begin.
so important to have both
Agreed. TEAM approach is foundation. Sharing vision w 1 other, building frm there.Twitter PLN's I believe r a tool.
that's awesome Jen. We need to get rid of grades from learning so we can address the real nuts and bolts
Tomorrow's podcast features and we talk culture Check out his TED x talk...I'll like it soon
A2: Maybe a true collective understanding and commitment...takes a full community!
In Q3 we will discuss the term, "one size fits all".
A2 https://t.co/xrFewYmU6W this is my goal for a school. Disheartened this is not what happens in schools.2much fear & reverting
A1 A space of lrners dev awareness of themselves& others w/in the context of their community xperiencing/growing their interests
I'm on the 2nd read. It's slow going bc I'm constantly stopping 2share via and email to colleagues!!
We Can Change Grading With 10 Easy Hacks - Starr Sackstein, MJE, NBCT https://t.co/U5e807ztDD for all kids to learn better
Just like anything - I am thinking T's need to experience this to value it. Fingers crossed it works!
. I have an AWESOME self-advocacy curriculum I used in my spec ed classroom but totally relevant for all!
Yes Minakshi We tend to get distracted by bureaucracy & paperwork - need to focus on learners https://t.co/ReFnasBfqK
Gotta light the fire! https://t.co/5JMufAsZ1V
I went on quite a rant yesterday. Bad when I'm concerned about Ts learning and they aren't. 😠😕
is now trending in USA, ranking 46
I wouldn't say that, but they do assume developmental timelines and demand traditional proof
A3: no place in education. Not for As, Ts or Ss!
A2. Not wanting to seem like a I "know" it all, because I try new things. Not feeling that I am pushing it on other Ts.
A3: Education Transformation: From One-Size-Fits-All to Student-Centered Learning – Part One - https://t.co/oThxcQCThl
A3: In what ways does a 1 size fits all model curtail passion & creativity? Does it allow for personalized systems of support?
A3 b/c each learner learns in a diff way & at a diff pace. Standards are good - means to achieve them needs to be personalized
A3: a little piece of me dies inside when I'm forced to do one size fits all.
the economy is changing... this need for change is bigger than an "education" movement
So true, I think it is forgotten that the reason we are there is for the learners & to bring the change along with them
A2: Learning to embrace purposeful change is important...it's the one constant in our lives.
and ...task stwitching at its best. TY
A3: When we standardize our classrooms we get equality instead of equity. We lost Ss passion & interest https://t.co/bAqk2Qkk2a
A3 we aren't meeting the needs of our Ss in areas of challenging, developing, & creating lifelong learners
A3: We no longer live in a 1size fits all society or economy. We need 2 prepare Ss 2 solve problems that they R passionate about
Simple and easy to recall vision and missions allow staff to actually know what they are
It is confusing to me why educators believe we need to be good at traditional before we utilize S autonomy.
Absolutely! Educs who r concerned w time need to realize the time spent to do this will save time!
And so do learners' spirit, drive, curiousity & innovative dreams. https://t.co/9Xv5DSxwfy
A3: a little piece of me dies inside when I'm forced to do one size fits all.
teachers need to break the mold and differentiate! Make a new standard
A3: every learner & teacher has unique gifts and needs. One size-fits-all-education doesn't work. There's beauty in diversity
Q3: because one size doesn't fit all. Ss create in different ways in different directions.
A3: We need to help all students grow. Tracks don't work. Assignments don't motivate all Ss. Motivated Ss work toward goals.
A3: 6 words - We live in a personalized world! If I can personalize my device, GoodReads, or Netflix queue, why not my learning?
A3: One size fits all is for T comfort not S growth. Dumbing it down so Ts can't screw it up.
A3: Ss come to us with various skill sets & interests. We need to support their interests and build the needed skills from there
actually, I don't think we get equality or equity. Standardization limits ACCESS...design for the margins.
A3: Schools should model society. Is there anything (truly effective) in society that is one size fits all?
What an excellent point! Building learner agency with every learn to create a culture of learners!
A3b- giving students some control over their path of learning allows them ownership and allows 4 individualized pace & passions
Yes when I see graphic, think we mean social justice - how do we meet the needs of all Ss? https://t.co/nlGUY0v6SR
A3: When we standardize our classrooms we get equality instead of equity. We lost Ss passion & interest https://t.co/bAqk2Qkk2a
Doing on my phone is killing me, but at least I'm on the exercise bike!
BOOM!! https://t.co/mwBkzjXFWp
A3: Schools should model society. Is there anything (truly effective) in society that is one size fits all?
A3: children learn and express differently! 1 size fits all takes some of their freedom.
A3 If educ’s r truly interestd in learning that makes a difference, that pervades a S, then clearly one size does not fit all.
A3 One size fits all doesn't allow for learner voice which makes it engagement challenging
nothing innovative end comes out of a comfort zone.
A3: If the world, or ANY learning, or ANY problem were one size fits all...but wait, it's not.
A3: If Ss are at the center of learning, we meet their needs, they don't meet our needs. Differentiate the learning & outcomes.
We must design for the margins...and involve them in the design. What is essential for some is good for all!
and their passion, curiosity and drive!
A3 Our kids are saying they don't need "school"as it is and are letting us know. Higher ed is changing. Everything is changing
A3: One size NEVER fits all...all Ss are individuals, with individual learning needs...need to honour/support them accordingly.
A3 It is no longer our job to create factory workers and compliant employees... and it has not been for quite some time
A3. Simply put not all learners are the same.
Agreed...the t-shirts with the labels lie! One-size is wishful thinking. https://t.co/ijokqWSGF4
A3: Schools should model society. Is there anything (truly effective) in society that is one size fits all?
is higher ed changing? I am starting to think higher ed is a limiting factor to meaningful change in K12.
A3 We ask Ts to differentiate to Ss, Ts need differentiation also! We are not all at the same level.
We have learned this fact as a school district over the years...slowly but surely! 😊
Agree Dave! It is time for ever learner to realize their hopes and dreams for a future we have not realized
One-size-fits-all only works w watches, socks & vise grips. Each learner is unique-need to access, engage & express in own ways.
I love when I see staff rolling their eyes at one size fits all PD, but then turn right around and do it in their classroom.
Yeah! David is in the house! Cannot wait to hear your thoughts in https://t.co/sKLSgho0x8
A3 It is no longer our job to create factory workers and compliant employees... and it has not been for quite some time
We have to start at a standard in order to differentiate.
In Q4 we'll discuss your role in promoting creativity & innovation
I like to use the motto "student driven, standards guided"
So true! But, you must have decided to do some of your own pL - by joining this chat! Wish more T's were connected
Higher Ed is in need of some disruption and MOOCs aren't going to cut it. Again, read Most Likely To Succeed for many references!
A3: Creativity is the opposite of one-size. We want our Ss to solve problems that don't yet exist. Can a cookie cutter do that?
I've heard both sides frm new grads. Some college is mirroring us.Some won't allow tech in a class at all.
Nope - melissa higher ed has to change & is fighting all the way to keep the "status quo" https://t.co/53HDmmCWnA
is higher ed changing? I am starting to think higher ed is a limiting factor to meaningful change in K12.
Welcome Gabby! Jump right in!
A3: Because it is a decision made for teachers, not for students. Ts benefit from standardization in terms of “ease”.
It's a monstrous limiting factor. Higher Ed pretty much wags the dog.
A4: my role is to provide the environment where the can happen. Basically to get out of the way.
We have to move away from content and towards skills...communication, creativity, problem solving....
Well said Chris, it is important https://t.co/opIcbwRgZb
A1: Vision and mission statements need to be brief, doable, memorable & impactful...requiring 'unpacking so meaningful for all.
Great reminder for all of us!
yes! Standards are there but we need to mold them for our students
Kudos More teachers need to digest your message Debby. Let's keep working on it! https://t.co/avbK6XebHZ
A3: 6 words - We live in a personalized world! If I can personalize my device, GoodReads, or Netflix queue, why not my learning?
A3 Kids are so smart now. My 7 yo granddaughter showed me how to get to the netherworld in minecraft - reading at 5th gr level
today I was at a school that shares lots w/ neighboring districts---they are proud of same schedule and calendars...1 of 2
Agreed! I love 's book even if it is geared to Teacher PD. Many practices & thoughts apply
Interesting conversation... is higher ed the "END" in mind for k-12 education? or is it something else?
Thanks for a great time for kids bath
but same sched and cal will be their limiting factor...still dependent on seat time! Let seat time go---that will be progress
A4: promoting creativity among Ts by truly allowing for growth mindset, mistakes, risks w/o fear of judgement =innovation
Thanks for joining us Matt in
A4: Expose Ss to the world & help them find wonderment & awe. Process, reflect and set new goals. Play, explore, fail, repeat.
What would teaching the Ss over teaching the standards look like or involve?
A4: Creativity and innovation through inquiry-based learning opportunities and Genius Hour.
Promoting Innovation & Creativity: Choice, Voice, Audience, Community, Leadership, Play & Networks https://t.co/aD4RkcL1N0 A4
dear time only of the Ss need it... Buy seat doesn't necessarily have to be AT the school building.
A4. I model, I share what I am doing with Ts, Ps, community. I share resources.
A4: I try to encourage and inspire my colleagues! Sharing, collaborating, and leading! It's ok to explore.
Thanks Angelo! I appreciate your saying so!
A4: We like to collab with Ts to make content real in the library! Ss enjoy new ways of learning info! https://t.co/6gyi9XEAv0
When looking at Standards, may B its best 2 view it w/Loose-Tight fit lens? They R a guide
Last week two teachers came to pd--I gave them 123D, snap circuits, and makey makey with only these words, "Check these out."
A4: systems & structures that allow for all the necessities to be creative; flexible scheduling; personal learning platforms etc.
A3: learning starts first with the heart than with the mind.
A4: Model innovative T & S behavior. Don't ignore the outliers. Bring in experts to make more experts. Celebrate creativity!
A4, I learn with, from & for the S's giving them the choice to enhance their creativity+creating a safe environment
do tell? what is inquiry hub?
A4: We have developed some large and small makerspace areas that promote open ended creating learning spaces
I share CONSTANTLY! some appreciate, some ignore. not stopping. Too important.
A4: Also planning to start Genius Hour in the library this semester! Can't wait!
: A3: learning starts first with the heart then with the mind.
And creativity is not "teaching to test"
Thanks for including our graphic we just posted yesterday
A4. Creativity happens when we (T's) put ourselves on pause, hold back expectations, allow time and space for trial and error.
A4 Ask the kids - get them involved in planning their learning and how they learn best, their interests, passions, & purpose
A4: Are U using the to give flexibility 2 your Ss in how they show they have learned the standards? Why Not? If yes, how?
How much reflecting do you do during that pause? Thinking blogging is such a valuable tool for all...
Awesome...Ss have choice, voice and creative expression opportunities!
Thanks Stacy for including our blog
We'll conjure up the sights and sounds of effective learning in Q5.
You are very welcome. Hold true to those thoughts!
Fostering learners' creativity/innovation will enable them to think their way out of a paper bag or mandated standardized test.
provide environment and then get out of the way. Sometimes we are the limiting factor.
I was just shown this graphic today! Love it! Simple to the pointGreat description of each lev https://t.co/EBmx7UTjUd
Agreed Innovate=Chg means embracing a passion for growth; moving from good to great is a challenge
Jumping in late! Rich from NJ/PA.
Yes! The allow for flexibility. The standards support curriculum design. The standards are not a script.
So very true! Keep it up, and as someone told me keep it up!
Yes, our body language, our presence, can interfere, or worse, dampen or squash creativity.
I would say it is not either/or - but allow Ss to shape how standards unfold via inquiry
Hope you read post that goes with graphic explains how to move to agency w voice through stages https://t.co/7z4VEaJ1AL
I was just shown this graphic today! Love it! Simple to the pointGreat description of each lev https://t.co/EBmx7UTjUd
A5 effective learning is anything that allows students to grow and push forward. Progress for each child looks different
A5:Does learning still look like Ss filling out a worksheet in your classroom?Word search? How do your Ss display deep learning?
For me it is a noisy classroom with students making interesting skits and presentations - sharing ideas and taking risks
A4- Authentic choice and giving students time, opportunity and tools to follow their natural curiosity, questions, and ideas
or just the notion that we are the sole source of learning and information.
A5: Effective learning...S-driven, inquiry-based, choice, risk-taking, effective feedback provided, fun/engaging.
BOOM!! Great point by https://t.co/HmWIisBDEj
Yes! The allow for flexibility. The standards support curriculum design. The standards are not a script.
A5: what does effective learning look like? : conversations-student talk! Engagement, creating, challenging, collaborating.
It looks like whatever the Ss want out to look like.
A5: Ss engaged with the content, asking questions, discussing possible answers, researching, collaborating & creating
A5) Its collaborative, its individual, its digital, its analog. Whatever that makes thinking visible.....
that's amazing Melissa ;)
Yes, very good point. Thank you for sharing that!
It will, but may take more than one try :)
Important to remember that an amazing system at one school may not work at another. Modify, adjust. Make it your own.
I am ready for that. But - I am going to be UP Front with my S's. Rule #1.
Please God NO! I want to see Ss engaging in the learning, not copying answers from a book
I may disagree with that answer, unless you didn't share your full intent. Some Ss put forth little effort and settle
A5; Ss are able to advocate for their needs they know themselves
A5 Focused, Aligned, Intentional, Collaboration, College & Career Ready, Key Concepts, & Teacher Leaders https://t.co/Dv9CmzKdLx
A5. Effective learning is the application of learning. How are Ss applying their learning. Sounds like: enjoyable, engaging.
Sat down to read it and saw the was happening. 😉
Responsibility of learning shifts from Ts to Ss
A5: What said! https://t.co/01PVY4mGtP
A5: Ss engaged with the content, asking questions, discussing possible answers, researching, collaborating & creating
I like your thoughts . In terms of equity, I wonder who is deciding what Ss need, and what they are needing it for.
It is so important to recognize that chang+creativity needs time&hence at times stepping back&taking the time helps
I hope that Ss have some say in what they need. So important.
Can you give some examples of College & Career Ready skills in the elementary schools?
A5 academic language being used, Ss facilitating Q&A, S articulation of SLOs, Ss supporting & providing FB to Ss,
Sound of effective lrning is sound of well-oiled machine. Has a hum w purpose, sprinkled w delightful cries & sometimes failure.
Put in the right environment, shown that taking a risk is healthy & us getting out of the way & Ss will respond.
A5 It sounds like students explaining their ideas to each other and guiding their own discoveries. It's usually noisy!
Absolutely, Scott. Who owns the learning? They do. Teach students 2understand who they are as learners https://t.co/KIng76ubpE
A5; Ss are able to advocate for their needs they know themselves
. Etta from RI. Dropping I. Just found you in the feed. Can't resist the topic!
What we experienced in our past is not best for our kids
When on a plane- hope the pilot did not lean w/worksheets
We can't just hope any more, but we NEED to have Ss have a say & ownership in their learning.
Joining late - 4th grade teacher from MA.
Love that productive noise!
Thanks for joining us. Jump in on the convos
Q6 deals with the challenge of changing assessments in the move from standardization to personalization.
I worry "College and Career Ready" is being defined by dated expectations and practices. Have you heard of the Theil Fellowship?
Thanks, for an inspiring chat tonight! Alarm rings at 2:45am, so I'm headed to get work done then to bed.
No. Could you share more about the Theil Fellowship?
Who know what assessment High Tech High uses...I can't remember the name right now--but when I saw it I liked it...
A5 Self-directed learning guided by self-efficacy, a feeling of I am capable, w T support-modeling strategies, praising process
https://t.co/uitn2mCP0j RT twhitford
What we experienced in our past is not best for our kid… https://t.co/QijfQk2gtD
What we experienced in our past is not best for our kids
When on a plane- hope the pilot did not lean w/worksheets
Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Communication, Creativity, Contribution, & Digital Citizenship.
A6:We need to move form summative assessments to assessment AS Learning where the learner is reflecting and connecting learning!
Yes definitely hope pilot experienced hours in the air - NO worksheets https://t.co/J3UE9Mqmm1
What we experienced in our past is not best for our kids
When on a plane- hope the pilot did not lean w/worksheets
learning is so much more than spitting out facts is about solving problems

No - can you share a link to more information about the Theil Fellowship https://t.co/vf4Zljx7RN
I worry "College and Career Ready" is being defined by dated expectations and practices. Have you heard of the Theil Fellowship?
Done! Just don't hear much about CCR at the elementary level & didn't know if there was more.
A6: Assessment should become more formative and project/problem-based.
Have u xperienced times when teaching standards does not allow u to "teach" the lrnr?
RT genius hour is great then asked me, “what if we had genius day&curriculum hour?”
A6: Assessment can become more differentiated, ongoing, based upon observation and conversations, relevant, purposeful.
Yes! Yet the 1 thing T's feel there is not enough of is time. Invest time wisely = gain time.
. Or that pilot's experience relies on fact he stayed in Holiday Inn Express last night! https://t.co/dJ8ijo4z6O
What we experienced in our past is not best for our kids
When on a plane- hope the pilot did not lean w/worksheets
A6: Assessment should be varied like the learning & activities. Formative, Essay, Speaking, Projects, Portfolios, etc....
A6) Assessments in new course is Blogging/ePortfolios. Love LOVE it! My Masters degree was ePortfolio based.
A6: Project-Based Learning, Inquiry Learning, Learning Playlists, & Student Voice
Totally agree, that investing time wisely=gains, I would say long term gains
A6 of ~Dedicating this to the late "Assessment is not a spreadsheet -- it's a conversation" https://t.co/sTrhez5twy
does this mean that the foundation of S autonomy is rooted in standardization?
Do you use the SeeSaw app for portfolio?
Everything rises and falls on leadership. College and career readiness begins in preschool.
A6: Assessment should be personalized - mutually agreed upon by students and teachers and options should be suggested by both.
A6: We use and Ss record or show their work.
Completely agree! Make the assessments authentic & get feedback from an authentic audience
are there not things that we want all Ss to learn? Skills that they should all have?
I think content standards and standardization are 2 different ideas. No?
Yes. However, great teachers know which direction to take the lesson (and when to punt)
A6. Project based learning, more creative work, not the need to memorize. Application vs memory.
don't you find that the shift from standardized to personalized is a huge shift like from left to right brain ?!
if we r learning from Ss we are in the right direction. They have some much to teach us - if we listen! https://t.co/Jt7wVDhHTk
Thanks Barbara for the shout out :) Think it can help change education or sure
A6 Moving from being only keen listener, observer and assessor of learner needs, but also of interests, ideas, and hopes
A6: the shift: assessment now informs daily instruction. Formative assessment provides differentiation based on current need
There is a process to move from standardization to personalization. Take a look at our Stages of PLE
I hear you. It's a mindset shift that needs to be made & reminded of.
does anyone fear that we will standardize portfolios?!
Thanks to all for a great chat!
sorry I missed it; thought it was 8pm EST, oops!! Next time for sure.
A6, I believe the communication+conversations w/S's is the foundation of assessment, making them dig deeper into their learning
Shelly, you'll value the archive! https://t.co/SRRxaNLbPP
sorry I missed it; thought it was 8pm EST, oops!! Next time for sure.
I agree. You need a variety of assessment methods. Challenge: how to put in a standard report card?
Oh - we'll be talking more about "Hacking Assessment" with you Thanks! https://t.co/8jU0ZfZrQ0
Thanks Barbara for the shout out :) Think it can help change education or sure
A6: more focused on self & peer assessment. Needs to be more timely & descriptive.
A6 every product is different. Students can wow you!
Thank you to the amazing team and everyone at for the learning
Our next is in 3 wks Mon. February 1, 2016 at 7:00p ET -Topic: Learner Voice: Co-host: Megan Harrington - Nellie Mae Foundation
A6: def more differentiated & targeted toward each student. Triangulate data. Focus on growth not performance.
Nooooo! we cannot let schools "standardize" portfolios or learning https://t.co/tkf6ErCfTz
does anyone fear that we will standardize portfolios?!
