#Edtechchat focuses on Education Technology. Co-founder Tom Murray says #edtechchat "connects us professionally with inspiring educators from all over the world, all of who encourage us to be better every day for the children and families we serve.”
Good evening everyone! My name is Matt Murphy, Educational Designer for Zorbit's Math Adventure and former math teacher. Logging in from St. John's, Newfoundland, I'll be representing the little green guy on this evening's chat! Can't wait to get started! #edtechchat
A1) I check out their profile and if I see catch phrases that follow my professional mission, I'll follow them. I will also follow people I meet in chats like this!
#edtechchat
A1 do the things they tweet about seem to have an impact on me as a professional or me as a person? Do they challenge my way of thinking or support it. Need both. #edtechchat
A1: I look at their bio to see their interests, recent tweets to see what they talk about, and who follows them to see if people I respect follow them already #edtechchat
#edtechchat A1:
I usually look first at whatever first made me notice them. If it was a response to a Tweet, that's PERFECT!
If they followed me or s.o. I look up to, then I look at their profile description, who they follow, who follows them...
I read - read - read. Then, I usually check out their all of social media that I can locate. Most of all, I go by recommendations from friends and colleagues. #edtechchat
I always look for the #valueadd. That can mean many things to many people, but for me, value is brought to the table in the form of new ideas. Someone who is willing to stick their neck out by presenting something new is always an interesting person to follow. #edtechchat
A1: in terms of content of tweets - do they challenge my thinking? It's important to follow ppl who have different perspectives than yours - it makes you grow and think differently #edtechchat
Steve from NJ popping in. Not sure how long I'll last :) I teach game design and development to awesome middle schoolers. Actually, I learn with and from them #stuchoice#stuvoice#edtechchat
A1: I determine whether or not to follow someone based on our interactions. I find most of my PLN through these chats and want to follow those who take an interest in what I am saying. Also, those who help answer questions or are recommended to me! #edtechchat
A1: A bio and a pic is a must. If they follow me and they are in Ed - I always follow back. If they are not - I skim a few Tweets. I'll follow funny folks! #EdTechChat
I've had a lot of Turkish followers lately - people with a million followers - I don't know why? Anyone else?
I don't either lol :) #edtechchat
When I deliver workshops on #socialmedia and #Twitter, I tell participants to get rid of the egg! If you don't want a pic of yourself, post a pic that represents you.
A1. In terms of Twitter, I look at their feed. If it's retweets or off topic, I skip. If we interact, I probably follow. If they say something interesting (or funny) I follow.
#edtechchat
A1 Continued: I consider mutual friends and if they are followed by persons I hold in high esteem, I will follow them as well. We all bring something to the table. #EdTechChat
Generally if I am in an ed chat with a person I will follow them.
I also notice RTs of educators and will check out their profiles.
As a rule I tend to follow most educators I come across to help grow my #PLN.
#edtechchat
A1: I check out their activity. Do they interact with people? Do they share resource? Do they make me laugh? I don’t need all of it, but something. Also is it someone who will find stuff I share useful if they follow back 😁 #isuenged#edtechchat
A1 Additions to my #PLN are based on content and impact area. I want to grow as an edu and support my Ss. If a profile will help me do that I will jump on board. #edtechchat
A1: Often I find followers while at education conferences—following presenters and keynotes. Otherwise, recommendations from friends and colleagues. #edtechchat
A1 - Do I find what they say interesting? Do they retweet interesting stuff? Do they make me think and/or question what I know? Are they going to make me a better person to know them?
Over tweeting or constantly retweeting the same things will make me unfollow.
#edtechchat
A1: I typically follow people in similar roles, or the relevance of what they are tweeting. Twitter is great for hot topic conversations and typically if their findings (or opinions) are relevant, they will usually have more I’m interested in. #edtechchat
A1: I also follow people interested in #coding#CSforALL and game design and development - come to think of it also, game developers, especially #indiegame devs #edtechchat
Evening everyone. Lee Itson, District Tech Coordinator at SDRL in Random Lake, WI. Tweeting while eating dinner after feeding the zoo that is my house. #edtechchat
A1 A lot of #edtech folks with good ideas, I follow. Pretty much everyone in the #CS4ALL and #CS4MS as well. Lately, a lot of #arduino and #python have been getting my follows. #edtechchat
A2: When I find someone that I really want to connect with, or someone that I really want to learn from, I will connect with them in as many ways as possible. I can learn more from them that way. #EdTechChat
#edtechchat A1; do they talk about things relevant to my current job or my dissertation topic with a degree of familiarity as in they use the things they are talking about regularly
A2 my Facebook is mostly personal, I have a professional and a personal instagram. LinkedIn and twitter are all about growing professionally #edtechchat
I only follow on Twitter as it is my professional account.
FB is personal and generally keep it only to people I know IRL.
I have an instagram, but that is for a side business I had...
#edtechchat
A2 Continued: For persons that I consider mentors, I like to see how they handle personal life and personal situations, so I will connect with them via outlets that may show their personal side as well. #EdTechChat
I typically follow different people on different platforms, so that I have a different place for different things. For example, Facebook is mostly family, instagram is friends, and twitter is for school/professional resources #edtechchat
A2: I choose to follow mostly on Twitter. I keep my Twitter profile professional, where I share tech ideas and tech happenings at my schools. Facebook and Instagram are my personal connections to family and friends. #edtechchat
A2 - I mainly used twitter and Voxer for education. Facebook and Instagram more for social connections. I love all the chats and great ideas that people share. Also, Twitter allows me to solely focus on education. Just connecting with passionate educators is great. #edtechchat
A2: Typically, I only follow people on twitter. However, lately I have been building up my LinkedIn Network too - I think its a great way to get more background on people’s experiences. Prior to this, I would only connect to people I worked with directly on LinkedIn. #edtechchat
Mostly just Twitter but I am pretty active in a couple of science and tech Facebook groups. More seems to be “face to face” on twitter with people actively participating where Facebook is more discussion board like. #EdTechChat
A2. I only follow on Twitter...except that I've been pulled in more and more to Facebook groups on a professional level. I'm not happy about mixing the personal and professional. Feels awkward.
#edtechchat
A2) I use Twitter for professional interests only. Just to get ideas about teaching and advocate for dyslexia. Oh...and to try and act like I'm friends with @jaketapper .
#edtechchat
I often follow people who don't have many followers. Some amazing educators are new to the platform or don't have many followers. Quantity does not always equal quality. #edtechchat
A1/A2: I use Twitter for my PLN, and Facebook and Instagram for friends. I follow people in all different roles in education to get different perspectives #edtechchat
I just started in May and participate in many ed chats!
I love growing my #PLN and meeting inspiring educators.
I tweet at others and include them in my tweets when applicable to show them some love, though I don't have nearly the numbers some people do!
#edtechchat
A2: I just do twitter for work; it seems the best way to get the most benefits (sharing articles/pictures/ideas, talking to others, saving things I want to remember). Instagrams for non-work only so I give myself a break, and I’m not really on any other social media. #edtechchat
It may create some redundancies in the feeds but if it's ideas worth spreading, it's worth shouting from the rooftops! It spurs on more conversation and you get more perspectives by diversifying the shares. #spreadthelove#edtechchat
A2: Just Twitter really - I have the others - Instagram, Snapchat, Edmodo, but don't have time to build. This serves me wonderfully well for professional learning. #EDTechChat
A2: I have a personal and professional Twitter. I don't follow much on FB or Instagram. I follow mostly education and leadership related things with my professional Twitter and my LinkedIn. I save my personal to post classroom shout outs. etc... #edtechchat
#edtechchat A2:
I only edu-socialize on Twitter. Everything else is pure social for me.
Facebook & Instagram = a mix between personal connections & celebrities, fan pages
Voxer = personal connections only, but also generally EDU-connected
A2: Just Twitter bc it’s what I use for professional stuff. I’ll follow on LinkedIn if I meet them in person and we swap info. But mostly just Twitter. #edtechchat#isuenged
Happy to - especially if someone from my PLN introduces them. Again, if their profile speaks to me, I love to give people a boost. The #games4ed#gbl community is all about welcoming folks and sharing the passion #edtechchat
A2) Just depends on what they do. If I want to celebrate life with them I will follow on FB, professional I go to Twitter... trying @LinkedIn#EdTechChat
I dont have a lot of followers, but I will say @mradamwelcome will occasionally send me a DM on Twitter or a text message just to check in. Always makes my day! #edtechchat
A2: I like to use multiple platforms to grow professionally and learn, like Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, etc. because it provides variety. #edtechchat#edtech
Haha! It's totally made-up but also totally what I do here!
There's some EDU for sure, but there's also just socializing with like-minded folk. 😂
#EdTechChat
SideQ A - I definitely do that. I have a large number of followers on my personal Twitter, but I follow almost twice as many. I follow connections who tweet and post things that are interesting and relevant to me. #edtechchat
A2: Intentionally Twitter only, but if someone shows up on FB, Linkedin, or Insta via recommendations I'll follow or allow a follow. I'm one whole person, so I don't try to isolate different aspects of myself, all of my social media accounts reflect this. #edtechchat
A2: Interesting question - I don't necessarily seek them immediately to follow on all platforms, but once I follow they are on my radar and then I am happy to follow on multiple platforms (facebook, linkedin), but twitter is still my fav. #edtechchat
@alicekeeler is one of my all time favorites! @cultofpedagogy is another. I am just now migrating to my professional twitter. All of my faves are on my personal! Love all of these suggestions! #edtechchat
I don’t want a system that tells me who to connect with to make me more attractive. (Looking at you @EdChatsPolice )I am already super handsome like Bradley Cooper. #EdTEchChat

We follow as many educators as possible to learn how tech is used in the classroom and how they WISH they could use it in the classroom. As game developers, we also look to influencers and innovators like @MakeMathMoments, @avantgame, and @EdGameTec#edtechchat
A2: Depends on the type of acct it is. If it's business/brand related they often post the same so I don't. Otherwise I do follow on more than 1, we often post differently so it's nice to see more of the big picture. #edtechchat
OK - I think I need to figure out how to do a doctorate from @austinpeay remotely - there are so many faculty and students that participate here on #edtechchat!
A1: Only on one platform. Multiple platforms just sucks up too much time, unless of course they become face to face friends and then I will follow on facebook. #edtechchat
A4: Perhaps a little outside the box: However, I would recommend @BethHouf for leadership. Although not edtech directly, I found a lot of value in #LeadLAP that can be applied #edtechchat
A4 For me, the term leadership means harnessing the energy to move a community forward, unearthing new possibilities, supporting the work of others. Here are some:

A2 : Only on one platform. Multiple

Late last year @BetsyDeVosED said 65% of jobs kindergarten children would have, had not been invented yet. Mysteriously that number has increased to 85 percent of the jobs by 2030 have not been invented yet, according to her latest speech. https://t.co/k2nSzhKBPZ
A5: Twitter Lists are a great way to curate Twitter followers who share content about a specific topic area, like #edtech! Check out people's lists to find interesting people to follow. #edtechchat
A5: Twitter Lists are a great way to curate Twitter followers who share content about a specific topic area, like #edtech! Check out people's lists to find interesting people to follow. #edtechchat
When you look at the feed from a Twitter list, you only see the tweets of people on the list. It's a great way to curate users by subject matter, etc. Lists can be public or private & you can follow other people's public lists #edtechchat
My biggest problem with my PLN is with my limited staff (i.e. myself) I don't get a ton of time to look at twitter....Only time would be at home and I try to limit work at home #edtechchat
I thought it would be nice to compile a list of everyone's recommendations and maybe some key terms so we can easily find new people to follow! Please feel free to collaborate on this Google Sheet: https://t.co/9Pk0eYbUcX#edtechchat
Game-based learning advocates and gamification enthusiasts are always great sources of resources and inspiration. Hidden gems include @GoNoodle@avantgame@MrHebertPE. Also, always be on the lookout for new players in the game - they're everywhere! #edtechchat
