If you use google classroom here is a free resource with 10 tools that integrate seamlessly https://t.co/wGPbWyJOhr
A1: In one word - engagement, we want the students engaged and thinking about next level projects.
A1: Interested to hear responses. Not 'modern' tech in that sense, but just had our school radio station install this week
Another Kiwi - YAY!! welcome
A1: We have just purchased a class set of Google Expeditions VR googles for use across our school to bring learning to life
A1: our Ss have used 3D printing, laser cutters to fabricate their 💡 while using a design thinking process
A1: I've incorporated coding and app creation this year and students love it!
A1Find ways to do more than just project/search/print. Use new ways that were never possible before & build global connections
A1) Coding, Minecraft, augmented reality (sorry I'm late - Brian here from Ontario, Canada)
Yes indeed. Could go any way, which I like.
Great to have you here Niko
A1 using with snr Ss - collaboration huge focus, creative problem solving
A1 No 3D printer but makey-makey, brain boxes, robotic, edubreakout https://t.co/g5O7oy3u7m
A1. Haven’t used 3D printers at all. I have bought a drone and looking forward to using this with our ss.… https://t.co/RPXs2FEHaP
Q1) In what ways have you used ‘modern’ technology (e.g. 3D printers, VR, robots) to enhance learning? https://t.co/OmIbRsROPx
amazing Faige ... welcome
Sounds interesting and amazing, were they expensive?
Hello - it is nice to be here - Phiona
Joining late from Va. k-12 Principal
A1: via Ss explored a range of tech, like
great to have you here Phinoa
A1: We use 3D printers on a daily basis across our school as a tool to share learning or to model / replicate items
Great that you could make it for Adam!
A1 we are just starting with makerspace in the library. It's great seeing what kids design with 3d printer.
A1 used digital mapping software to allow Ss to go over mountain walking route from a bird’s eye view
A1 trying to make integration of new tech "normal" - not an added extra
ss love & so much cab be learned from them and the concept around them including research
We help schools and Ts bring their assessments online to close achievement gaps, personalize learning & .
A1 do they create their own projects from scratch or do you let them work on pre-designed ones?
A1: We use VR. AR. Have just bought a cheap drone. Our innovation students use whatever they can get their hands on!
To help Ss code I made a Free Ebook with tools to help them. You can get a free copy if u like https://t.co/kQpByCNYF3
A1) my students and I use google chromebooks everyday. We each have our own at school.
about $6000 SGD for a class set of 25 - stocked them ourselves using provided specs
A1. Hoping to use 3D to create products to assist medically fragile children
David from Melbourne here. Sorry Jumping in a bit late
A1: You're in the best place to do so with some great contacts in your PLN!
A1) We help schools and Ts bring assessments online to close achievement gaps, personalize learning and for
A1 is helping us to personalize learning for all students and staff as we develop PD through the LMS.
Thanks Craig. I've looked at those but haven't yet tried them
A1: All of these are excellent in isolation, but even better when linked to learning & curriculum to bring learning to life
A1 we also have a small robotics club which did well at a competition last spring.
A1 then a few weeks later the Ss actually walked the route in the rain!
huge possibilities, just extend it to podcasting and you will also have a chance to impact their reading abilities
Having only tutored so far, I found it's important to utilize phones in the class and not demonize them, it eases the tension.
A1. AR to show learning, coding, 3D printing. Whatever the Ss want to explore but they have to be clear on their 'why'.
A1 worked alongside a local VR comp who delivered VR workshops to Ss and asked for input to design VR scenarios for education
A1 That sounds amazing I'd love to hear more about how you're using the AR
A1: showed a science T 4Delements; S's will wite VR error messages, why 2 elements can't combine; go beyond the tool
Great that you could join today Brian!
A1 Agree these items listed need to be used to enhance and enrich the learning experience
A1: Live video streaming, videos, audio, blogs, padlet, all part of how I visit w/classes around the world to teach empathy.
Glad to join from Boise Idaho!
A1 part2 Also using coding, cospaces, AR, app development, game making. Just ordered Bloxels
A1 Wow thats awesome Donna, I'd love to see a link to some of your students work/projects, thanks for the follow
A1 Our has brought a slew of tech to our school & students- printers, programs- at its best
Q2 coming up in 1 minute ………..
we use to make book reviews in the library and have used it to add video reflections as well
Cross curriular linking is the key to incredible learning and using tech as a tool.
Q2 Coming up in one minute...
Purposeful use tech tools 2 inspire learning VR widens experience base Drones 4 perspective robots 4 thinking mathematically
Great to be joining for today's chat!
Yes, we have been podcasting for about 5 months. Already an impact on reading and writing
A1) We r loving 3D pens for design and creativity & Bloxels Builder has also been really popular for game dev in our makespace
A1: showed T 4Delements: plan for S's to write VR error messages when elements won't combine; learn beyond the tool
A1 - Part II: Oh, and use AR as part of Quilting for Kindness project. The kids took to it like fish to water. So much fun!
Extremely pleased that you are here for Stuart!
A1 no exp with them yet but my sch started offeribg robotics class from 3rd grade up Ss
It certainly has a moment when its first used that is 'priceless'
A2: use tech to problem solve; S built clip to hold earbud cords when he was running using 3d printer in
In English, have used stop motion animation, cellphones, Google Cardboard A1
Ss 16 to 19 years SW used enables any route to be planned & is based on maps
A2 focus on deeper learning not just content/knowledge, higher S engagement
A2 engagement has had a big impact for use of technology
A2 it does increase engagement.
A1 Looking 2 bring 2 T's @ my school 2 enhance their learning, comrodery, teamwork- Any help greatly appreciated!
A2: Better engagement and an extension of learning to different and carrying levels - doing more than they thought they could!
A2: Tech is only as good as how it's used. IMHO it should be used to empower all kinds of learners 2 discover & tell stories.
A2: certainly engagement, using tech for learning, autonomy and Ss voice, learning by doing, self regulation
A2. Greater opportunities for Ss to become Ts or co-Ts alongside us. Powerful co-construction of knowledge.
A2 it varies on how the technology is integrated we can look to the SAMR model we don't want substitution we want redefinition
A2 If not used appropriately can harm student learning, if "fit-for-purpose" sky's the limit.
tech has impacted all of students education as teachers we need to keep up and learn how to use it also.
A2- Tapping into Ss creativity and being able to share with an authentic audience Design- make- create- communicate- share
A2 I also found a lot of students don't know tech unless it's social media. It broadens their tech knowledge
Thanks Donna always looking for inspiring ideas of projects to run and ideas for our students to look for!
A2) Student engagement and creativity towards their learning is having the biggest impact for us.
A2: the biggest impact has been engagement when the right tech is used for the task at hand
A2 Has made the world a legitimate learning space for all students with tech access.
A2. We undervalue the instant access to information
A2: The thing I LUV about tech=that it enables me 2 take down the walls of classes & connect Ss globally to collab & share.
I'd like to do one of those 'Break Out' challenges with it & use it for the clues
A2: Application of learning has been great. Lots of engagement. Need to get better at evidencing learning. "Show me learning"!
A2: Technology allowed students to feel like part of the learning process. It made learning as 21st century as the kids.
A2. No students can hide!
A2: I think any new technology to the children engages them and inspires them to learn to their very best potential
When Ss combine and in the process of problem solving true sustainable occurs.
A2: some kids that struggle with content excel with their tech savvy skills= engagement
Yes! Having a Yr 5 ESL student tchg a Yr 8 how to create a video game has been a highlight for me this yr
A2 In my class, collaboration and student voice, agency has through the roof!
A2. Ss apply tech to their lives & other classes because it is relevant to them. Problem solving techniques are improving.
Kia Ora - Steph from Akld
A2: tech means doing, tweeking, redoing, and repeat... fail forward, reflective thinking, celebrate the steps to the goal
Joining in from Athens, AL. Our teachers are using a lot of the Google products and are loving Google Classroom!
A2. Every students learning is prescribed appropriately compared to a traditional one size fits all!
Good point, school can't be removed from the students' real lives outside of school. A2
A2 engagement, connectivity and greater collaborative opportunities
Yes I've seen them a couple of times and I think they look quite intense...
A2 Ts open 2 possibilities & S engagement high - shift is that the tech is the vehicle to take L deeper, L is not about tech
We had 5 year-olds teaching Y6s about flip videos a few years ago. It was fantastic!
Hi Shanez form Singapore being able to explain their understanding better and revising visual thinking
Belinda preservice here soaking up your experience
Very cool, we had Year 9s running our whole staff digital PL!
A2) using technology has boosted student engagement and provided opportunities for blind and self differentiation
A2 achievement is up, attendance is up, severe behaviour down. STEAM curriculum, no limits, soft skill based
What did he/she use to make the game Melinda?
A2) technology has opened so many doors that students couldn't access otherwise
A2- Engagement through authenticity & reality. Learning becomes real & that makes learning fun!
A2 modern tech gives Ss tools for them to hack their learning and better ease for owning it
thanks for the tip/link Nico
Nice post Wendy, it's something about that settles students. A2
A2) with google chromebooks, students are able to easily collaborate with their classmates
Morning joining late. School Hols slept in :)
When each are done in isolation they are just activities. https://t.co/r4beSoCH1Z
When Ss combine and in the process of problem solving true sustainable occurs.
A2- For S- personal connection w/ learning- more buy in; For T- opp to learn more tech & connect w/ S- the tech natives
Agree! Often it's sniffed at as being inferior- it's incredibly powerful if the skills around it are taught.
A2: inquiry, creativity, and revision are now mainstream... rote memorization doesn't work here
A2: if you capture digital artefacts & have Ss dev a online portfolio it helps support learning as a process & metacognition
WHY choosing ONLY etc for enhancing !!? WHAT about <===> for !?
A2: Yes agreed its something intangible that's just there isnt there...
A2 it can have its downsides lots of distractions in the mix when using tech leads to classroom management
A2 strong student voice, confidence in self, understanding of process and personal responsibility
Q3 coming up in 1 minute ………..
Because our theme for this week is Modern Technology doesn't mean that is all we do!!!
Maybe it's that students are being trusted and they realise this?
I'm not familiar with that site Melinda, but I will check it out and have a look thanks for the link
Yes I suppose that could be the case in that context
A2 modern tech has meant collaboration from Ss who could before.Authentic audiencesToo!
We often had classes of all ages run parent evenings and workshops. Loved it. Started in 2000.
absolutely, can't be done in a culture of mistrust
In kinders the combination of tech & "old school" sets the pace for creative learning & endeavors https://t.co/OXVY9DxNDO
Hi I am sure there will be similar mapping SW for Canada UK also has which is free
it's an NZ site - very easy to get started
I've seen it demo twice to staff, need to try students
A3: Often it is staff buy in and the willingness to go with something. I'm lucky to have a great team that will go for it
A3: the main challenge is always to focus on the task not tool
if you only use tech in your class you will miss out on some great low tech ways of reading your students.
Well I hadn't any knowledge of it Melinda so thank you for your input and I will check it out
are critical across the Ed system. Its what creates school climate and resulting success. https://t.co/GKDX2pdcN0
A2 achievement is up, attendance is up, severe behaviour down. STEAM curriculum, no limits, soft skill based
Let them lose on it and create their own. Magic!
A3. Shifting parents mindset to a new type of teaching and learning than what they are use to!
A3 equity of resources for some, lack of engagement from some Ts which also leads to an equity issue...
A3 Teachers fear of losing control, used to have infrastructure issues.
Craig, I know, BUT WHY being STILL on linear and NOT on !?
A3: Implementing tools to support learning with a purpose, rather than just a toy-its always the worry with new & exciting tech
Like most things in life, balance is important. Exclusion, by definition, leaves someone out
https://t.co/T8jderroLK
if you only use tech in your class you will miss out on some great low tech ways of reading your students.
A3 money is an object. We are under funded. 1 3d printer for 2000 Ss
Definitely time! I've got so many resources to try - mainly from that are amazing.
A3 getting some kids to stay with the lesson for the first few weeks, or staying on tasks they need to practice
A3 getting it to work and the learning curve needed to be able to use effectively!
A3 Equity of provision is always a challenge in low-income schools.
not going to argue the point - that is how and most chats work!! We discuss a theme - doesn't mean it's all we do!
Money for you or the school? Don't be scared just jump in you'll not regret it!
Will check back to read all your amazing ideas.
That is so true. It very much depends on the community and their lifestyle as to how receptive they are
A3. Digital citizenship has been a problem, but can be rectified through teaching awareness
Red tape, risk assessments, data protection issues. Fear of the unknown
Hello , making a tweet stop- what's on the agenda?
There's ALWAYS a glitch. Biggest issue when visiting=low bandwidth. Can cope w/everything else, but if can't see kids = :-(
A3 we are BYOD and getting Ss and Ps to be willing to use data for classroom learning.
A3. Developing the u'standing in others that it's the learning not the tool. Must be clear about your 'why'.
A3: $$ and access to reliable internet connection. Infrastructure that supports technology implementation. Attitude of some.
Well said that man. never lose the educational focus
A3 Money for resourcing and also staff competency (in the past) also tech depreciates quickly as well
yes time to do things justice. But they say the journey is worth it too not just the final destination.
A3: Biggest challenge is getting Ts to a confidence level to implement tools as part of a day to day class learning activity
A3 sometimes it does help to go through the ’play’ stage
A3. If you're not clear about your 'why' for using a tool then it's just a 'cool tool'. This goes for Ss as well as Ts.
And in many cases, letting the students be the leaders and experts. A3
And in many cases, letting the students be the leaders and experts. A3
A3 how to integrate tech in a purposeful way - not just "game time", resourcing
Completely agree with you and I love learning new things and investing time to benefit the children
A3. We are changing the attitudes towards devices away from playing to learning tools!
Limited resourcces & decisions around who/how uses what r challenging when wanting to B
Yes I agree the best a teacher can do is to provide the backbones do the ss can follow
So important for schools to have support mechanisms in place for this https://t.co/xmhxvE25D2
A3: Biggest challenge is getting Ts to a confidence level to implement tools as part of a day to day class learning activity
A3 Really important that teachers value tech but as one of many effective tools for learning.
So true! Trying the shift the mindset to get to the WHY through professional learning. https://t.co/Ph6yDd4STj
A3. Developing the u'standing in others that it's the learning not the tool. Must be clear about your 'why'.
Fun has to be top of the agenda. That leads to great learning
Interestingly Ss are often better at this.
A3 Agreed Chris sometimes that 'play' can be wonderful, sometimes challenging...
There will always be kids that don't use tech in productive ways when given the chance, others still deserve the opportunity.
A3 Ps perception on the use of the Tech as well as the other stakeholders
It's so okay to make cool become "uncool", especially in education. https://t.co/O59d2ipYwT
A3. If you're not clear about your 'why' for using a tool then it's just a 'cool tool'. This goes for Ss as well as Ts.
A3: Lack of time to learn & master new tech- T's want 2 be the best @ what they do & venturing into unknown jeopardizes this
yes but once you have these things enacted you can revisit and improve!
Yes if I consider some of the past staff capability... they can be more inventive and creative
A3 Making sure it's supporting student learning & helping meet objectives as well as $. Subscriptions are expensive!
Can also be the most effective learning space!
Thank you sorry have to go going tonprepare for my classes
Is there a chat going at this time or is this it?
wow factor is great 4 engagement the shift is when S/T see real purpose & it adds potential to taking L further not just cool
Yes I think you can't underestimate the perception of the other stakeholders and their views
are LOOOONG further as MOST , needs o GET considered ;)
A3- Time to play and change routines to try out new things, and lack of collaborative buddies
Exactly. It needs to have a learning purpose.
yes fun! is paramount and you need to play & be there with your students. Lead by example.
One, with capital letters! https://t.co/7OvCokVknf
A3 Really important that teachers value tech but as one of many effective tools for learning.
We had a similar experience, phones just another tools, in most cases students were using them already.
Q4 coming up in 1 minute ………..
That is what makes it fun too, learning with Ss can be more rewarding than having answers
Funding is always a barrier. Working on multiple grants at various levels to increase opps for students and teachers.
Any resistance to your students having them
A3. The power of technology can often be misused as a replacement (and not enhancement) for teaching
When you realize tonight is a write off.
A3: Tch’s encourage Ss “its OK to fail"when using tech but when the role is reversed they don’t always have the same attitude.
Yes but due to non-evidenced fear over reality!
A3 random wondering - are many of these concerns/barriers used as excuses to not engage with tech and if so, what's our plan?
A4 We've done a lot of PD and share collaboratively as staff at every opportunity, working with likeminded staff
A4: It always come back to leading by example, helping and assisting staff to learn new ideas with enthusiasm and patience
A4. Try to model that tech is not scary
Great point! It takes time to become familiar with and learn to use a tool effectively!
I'm a student at CSUF and would like some input as to how this chat is structured.
the real benefit IMO is when tech tools are simply an option to support learning not a 'wow'
A4 We use a paperless professional learning setting and Google Classroom for our staff.
A4: have quality conversations about learning
A4 I have gone over some things 8n small group collaboration.
Wow that would have been quite a powerful force to challenge methinks....
All of these tools can combine with all the others such as blogs, curation etc. to create pwrfl learning.
A4: We prepare play sessions for Ts to utilize the new tools which starts a discussion on how it can be tied to curriculum
A4 through observations and seeing what the outcomes are - Ss sharing learning & Ts sharing practice
Takes a relentless optimism and PR and winning one heart and mind at a time.
A4 I take it thats with the parents as well Dean
Not from me I realised the value of the SMART phone as it saved booking computer rooms!
Providing easy access to quality digital resources aligned to Our curriculum.
A4: model sound instructional practice and authentic assessment supported by tech. Don't just showcase tech
A3 biggest barrier has been outdated policies that affect communication and the use of social media
Definitely. I feel the power of class blogs is still relevant & impt for enhancing learning
Same here. My students showed me the clear benefits so all lives were made easier.
Sadly, yes. Increase time for Ts to learn and plan for meaningful tech. Acquire grants to offset $ concerns.
T teach T, invite T to C the learning, offer 2 help them, invite their Ss 2 give feedback/feedforward, engage in conversations
Since you're at a big school that would have taken quite a bit of time
A4. Ss and I have modelled what's possible. Have lead a lot of prof learning sessions over the yrs. encouraged others to lead.
A4 not overloading w diff tech - 1 step at a time, using Ss as T assistants, leading by eg, shwg failure as well as success
A4 to encourage my peers I start small. I use & set up school accts & gps then move to class gps & then topic gps
A4: It's hard when someone has preconceived notions about tech in class but show how these are tools S's need for their future
At all points of the journey.
A4 What about the other stakeholders at the School?
Once other teachers see the benefit of technology to students, they are all in!Successful modeling is the best encouragement
we are NOT denying that! Please look at the whole picture! You have followed & myself for Long enough to know better
Incredibly important. A tool is only as effective as the underlying pedagogy.
A4 Yes! It's important to make it clear that you EXPLORE & learn while teaching too. It makes tech less scary 4 all.
A4 we also have lunch PD sessions where sometimes tech is shared.
Got it done quicker than planned through having a team of "nutty professors"! going full on.
A4: By sharing your experiences - making it publicso they can see it is possible. Showcase what students are doing and can do
A4-Run PD sessions w tech embedded in them so T's know how to integrate for lng. Techie Brekkies to help dev spec tech skills
A4 We just ran an engagement session w/ promoting & - & -stations- Modeling for T's is powerful!
- I would love to hear more about how you use for book reviews
Parents initally hesitant, students all for it!
A4: We have ed-tech coaches that work alongside Ts in all phases of learning from planning to implementation to reflection
A4: I create resources for colleagues and collaborate as much as possible
Love the idea of "play sessions". Thinking about offering this at lunchtime. https://t.co/HqpVkvVGb4
A4: We prepare play sessions for Ts to utilize the new tools which starts a discussion on how it can be tied to curriculum
It can be a huge challenge Meliza to overcome a negative mindset which can be built up over time
Ok, my tweet stop has come to an end. Take care, !
With (WHICH I am doing [ ;) ], one GET MORE out of it ;) People are reacting :)
A4. Model and teach them! Do a coffeeEDU and help out your peers. Just encourage them.
A4 Yes sometimes its not everyone that sees the value... conversion can be a problem
Absolutely agree that they often are. Keep showing what's possible. Comes a time for the 'difficult conversation'?
open conversations about practice, purpose of SCH teaching - our collective efficacy and what it looks like?
Can't convince everyone....just go with the ones who are prepared to make an effort!
A4 invite peers to come in and watch your students using tech.
A4 How many ed-tech coaches at your school relative to the number of staff that you have?
Q5 coming up in 1 minute ………..
agree - can't shy away from the diff conversations not when it's about students - that's why we're there!
They're still one of my 'go-to' tools for curating and sharing learning. Mine and my Ss.
Q4 Encouraging and supporting teachers to 'give it a go' and empowering them to seek out new ideas.
A4 Showing and telling, having dedicated coaches in each department.
buy in for Tech in my sch is still in progress both from Ts and Ps
Comes down to meeting prof responsibilities too.
Q5) What is one piece of advice you could give someone starting to integrate ‘modern’ technology? https://t.co/SJM63GBeT2
also Ss can make notes on phone & can input dates on the calendar & take photos on walks
lucky you we use to & they took the mentoring away thinking ts will just do it, but still some don't!
Subject isolation teaches knowledge. Cross Curr learning results in application skills but which skills r important?
A5: IT'S HARD! Don't try and take on too much, it's a learning process like anything else so it will take time.
Yes! Great point! Many times people feel it's not worth the time because there is so much out there!
Good post. My students also use Classroom & wevideo heaps on their phones.
A4: Tch’s r supported by modelled lessons & team teaching until they r comfortable leading the use of tech in their classrooms
Absolutely. The power of creating an audience for inspiring learning has been enormous for us
Yes Olwen a key decision maker for me when looking at employment
Hi Justine :) Do You mean & ?
A5 be prepare for something to happen. Have backup plans. Or talk to
Is that next year you'll have an increase?
A5 don't do it all at once and start with sonething you are proficient at.
I used to run Tecchie Tuesdays and Thursdays for staff to come and explore ideas and tools. Ss too.
do they have to be focused on ed-tech? Coaching is about the needs/growth of the T so across all areas
A4 model it, model it, model it, don't push, pull, lead by example, offer help, point out hardships https://t.co/4AWkOISM2o
Instructional partners/coaches are the key to successful integration
A5- Find your tribe- Find people to collaborate with
Something that will become increasingly common.
A5: open your door and let in those who can help: S's, other T's; remember: learning should be collaborative
Me too but change does happen … eventually
This is great advice Nicola! We forget that we are all learning & that's the best way to teach!
A5: Link it to learning goals, make it purposeful and make all learning REAL
A5 make sure there is a purpose, have a go, let Ss lead & help
A5: If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
A5 Take small steps and embrace your (minor) mistakes
Q5 1. Get on twitter 2. Visit other schools and see Tech in action 3. Talk to students about their learning
A5 also define what modern tech is?
A5 Find a team and go for it, makes mistakes fast and have fun!
A5. You will fail, it is a fact of life. Reflect and grow. Don't give up. Never stop learning.
A5 jump in, play, innovate, experiment and ask - 'in what way will this make a diff to learning/wellbeing for my Ss?'
not at all - but that is one area we focus on at my school - also have English etc mentors too
I agree! Helping one another grow is key
A5-Taking Ss on the journey is so crucial. Learn alongside if need be- smtimes Ss can be Ts
A5. Take time to explore, don't be afraid to fail- First Attempt In Learning and let the Ss teach you.
A5: tech is no different: learn with a purpose, make a positive difference, ask challenging questions, be empathetic
A5 enjoy eating a taco. And then make a backup plan by eating another taco
A5: Learn about it yourself, enjoy it, try it with children and then teach it to staff stedily so that they aren't put off
A5 Look for a support system online-Join Twitter, find Webinars & remember "Take chances, make mistakes & get messy!"
A4 How long until someone gets comfortable David? Thanks for the follow much appreciated
Great point! Link to Action Plans/T Goals for you can be powerful!
A5: Play!!!! Then discuss, tie to curriculum and integrate!!!
Thanks plus Ss can access our college’s VLE via their phone
I used 3D printers for prototypes to show students mistakes by reviewing prototype.
A5 Just give it a go! stand on the edge of the "learning pit" & jump in boots & all.
Yes I think if you develop skills theres always dangers of losing staff
Yes. The blogs become a platform for sharing so much learning.
A5 Be a risk-taker and be prepared to fail. So much is learned in our failures. The outcome for students s worth the effort!
Q2 Students have a voice and students with learning difficulties experience success immediately
all our teachers/staff including TAs have a coach - the focus is dependent on Staff members need
Nice point, have to have like-minded people but range of skills.
Our gr.9 S's are curating museum exhibits and building them in Design thinking!
agree - prepare to fail, need to learn somehow!
Agreed! But for some, the "fun" pulls them in initially- then explore the possible curricular connections.
I always value & use my students as guides in the lng process.
Wow literally everyone Steph?
I had many debates trying to convince the team to adopt the idea
For some people, they end up leaving due to not wanting to change.
Yes but sometimes if there's a barrier that can't be overcome...
A5 A shift in the notion of 'control' is the first step - guide, lead, facilitate enable reflect share learning create opport.
also FAIL in front of everyone & show that is how you learn!
Plenty of times Ss have worked out how do something with an app & taught me. The importance of play!
A5 when we rolled out iPads ages ago we had a celebration and gave each staff member own iPad mini prior 2 summer hols to play
Agree team should have a variety of qualities
agreed it is more fun and likely to succeed if you have like-minded people around
Yes indeed. A very good point. Done it many times!
and that's not a bad thing sometimes
Thanks and more sustainable in terms of succeeding.
When you say 'debates'...
Q6 coming up in 1 minute ………..
There is still one Ts that wants Ss phones in a box at the front of the class
2) Much clearer perspective of what they are constructing, and problem solving.
checking out- great chat. Cheers!
Constantly do that. 😄. That's where the best learning happens.
yes. One of our 'bold' steps in our charter is to GROW staff so gotta walk the talk and invest in it
Ask them how they ring someone, do they use a horse and cart?
OK I meant arguments LOL!
Thanks for all the ideas Back to 'work'
I take it you were always successful with the outcome Chris?
Thank you and Got to head off - assembly first thing in the morning. Great chat tonight
Excellent point, tve differences of opinions lead to exponential success.
A6: most valued resource is TIME; to learn, study, practice, play, plan... everything needed to try something with confidence
if resources were not in question I would love to have every student have a tablet so that we could get rid of text books.
yes some play bu then they need to find out how it can help them in class. they need to see them in action
I have seen a method of communication using 2 tins & a piece of string
Thanks for your input Ian and please stay in touch!
A6: I want a bit of everything - a space for Ss to get their hands dirty, to try new things & explore - be innovative and play
Sorry. I've been lurking tonight. Recuperating from surgery this morning.
Absolutely agreed! There is so much to learn & explore & so little time to do so!
3) The DOK varied with the students, so some students learned CAD programs much faster than others.
A6: New devices 21st century classroom is cool but don't be outdone no amount of tech should be able to replace the instructor
thanks for being present - rest up and I hope you are better soon
Thanks Craig. I enjoyed it. Great stuff as always
Not necessarily Myles but …. he he!
That's why I'm so proud of what the Ss created. So they can do just that.
A6 open time frames, more space
We only lose when we quit or fall back to the masses.
A6 all Ss to have access to tech (sch & hme), physical space for Ss to use for collaboration
A full makerspace (& bigger room) with less Ss for ALL Ss to feel success & the resources/knowledge to implement it!
A6. I would love to ditch the desks and make the class feel like starbucks instead
ah yes I know those chats well Chirs...
I know but at times there is a temptation to do so
A6:1 a flexible lng env, large tv with connectivity to ipads, tablets or laptops etc. Extensive access to wireless.
Q5 Join Twitter to see what real tchrs are using NOW & what works in classrooms! Follow them & ask Qs👌 https://t.co/82sQLrBWRk
Q5) What is one piece of advice you could give someone starting to integrate ‘modern’ technology? https://t.co/SJM63GBeT2
I agree, that's only natural, don't give in though!
A5. practice practice practice. And don't be afraid of change! It's just the way things are. https://t.co/pnki7LAFBl
