Curtis Bourassa, @secpsd IT consultant, my favourite flower.... Does a succulent count (although I killed all my succulents)? Not really a flower person. #saskedchat
Hi! Aubrey from chilly for a month Alberta! Favourite flower is hibiscus (because that means I'm in the tropics!) #saskedchat
Happy Valentines and Thursday!
Hello everyone! My name is Kayla and I'm from Melville. I'd have to say my favourite flower is a violet. I have so many memories of them taking over my garden every summer as a kid. #saskedchat
A: I love that I can go into the classroom and that kids love me, "Because when Mr. Bourassa comes we do something fun!" I also love the people I work with, and the schools that I work with are open to trying new things! #saskedchat
Hi I’m Kelly moderator and welcomer to #saskedchat - My favourite flower is an Orchid mostly because my grandmother loved them and it reminds me of times with her!
A1. The biggest thing I'm enjoying is the risk-taking and not just talking about it but actually taking risks. Am I willing to abandon a practice I'm successful with for something even greater? #saskedchat
A1: Honestly I can't put my finger on one single thing that I love because there are many. As a first-year principal, I am blessed with a school team that knocks it out of the park every single day plus we always have a ton of fun together. #saskedchat
A1: Also, I love that no day is the same and every day brings a new challenge. Challenges are less daunting when you are surrounded by students, a school team and a community that trusts. #saskedchat
29s
Hey #saskedchat My name is Brooklyn, I am a fourth year post-intern at the #uofr and this is my second Twitter chat! My favourite flower is a tulip!
A2: I loved being around kids. I loved that I could spend my day making punny but relatable to content jokes. I loved that everyday there were small victories within every class. #saskedchat
A2: what I love about teaching is helping my students learn how to think critically about real world problems and hopefully change the world #saskedchat
A2. Although I’m technically not a teacher anymore, I love when I can get into the classrooms and teach a lesson or be the “sub”. Making connections and learning from each other is what it’s all about! We can all teach. #saskedchat
A1: I love the connection I built with my internship kidlets! I went for a surprise visit yesterday and there were SO many hugs and tears when I got there. I still have warm and fuzzies from being there yesterday! #saskedchat
R2: What I love about being a teacher is how I can help students see success when they maybe haven’t been successful in the past. I also love how I can affect the future through my students. #saskedchat
A2: I love my job. My job is the best. I love watching kids think, and I like watching students work through problems, succeed and work together. #saskedchat
A2. Although I’m technically not a teacher anymore, I love when I can get into the classrooms and teach a lesson or be the “sub”. Making connections and learning from each other is what it’s all about! We all have something to offer. #saskedchat
A2: My favourite thing about being a teacher is being able to empower AND educate my students. I was able to really life up and help my students to build their #growthmindset and have a more optimistic look at things! #saskedchat
A2 - The ability to provide kids with a friend, teacher, and trusted adult! Relationships before curriculum. Students won’t learn from a teacher they don’t like. #saskedchat
A2: Right now I am piloting the province's new Financial Literacy 30 course & am very motivated by working with a 3 week old curriculum. Especially love connecting my learners to community resource people. #saskedchat
Q1: why do I teach? It enables me to do something meaningful everyday. This is Terelyne, watching a Bantam girls playoff game in Emerald Park. Favourite flower - the orchid that just started blooming in my kitchen. #saskedchat
Late to the #saskedchat party - was/am finishing naming ❤️ shaped pizzas for the family. Our tradition had been to go to @bostonpizza but there isn’t one in our town and the ferry runs wouldn’t make it easy....
A3: I think having an open way of sharing knowledge and the right tone/attitude. Rather than telling people they are wrong, I like to try and share alternative perspectives! #saskedchat
A2 I love the relationships with students and staff. The family that is created within each classroom and the entire school. And I ❤️ seeing students feel proud, experience success, and grow. #saskedchat
A3. Well .. daily with Ss in their successes ... making sure they’re aware of how amazing their learning was.... and weekly right here, of course! #saskedchat
A3: I have been learning to build a PLN on Twitter, both with my peers and with other professionals. I was wary of a new platform at first, but I regret not getting on here sooner to find the amazing like-minded people I have now! #saskedchat
R3: I have 3 classes this semester of Ss who did not do well during Semester 1. Seeing them succeed now brings me a lot of joy. Sometimes this is the first success they have had in high school. Celebrating success is fun! #saskedchat

A3. I model curiosity and hope to ignite the internal fires for life-learning! Research shows kids today want personalization not automation. #saskedchat
Its important that the teacher is passionate about what they do. My Grade 4 math teacher always talked about math with joy. It was just contagious. Better that than a boring teacher who does not seem to care about the lesson #saskedchat
A4: When we show the students that we are still learners it helps them to connect with us. It also helps us to remember how hard it is to learn a new skill/concept. #saskedchat
A3. The late great Rita Pierson said, "Kids don't learn from people they don't like." My first teacher mentor taught me, 'not to smile until December.' What a mistake. #saskedchat
Be curious and wanting to learn has no age limit and we need to show students that it’s okay to be interested in learning all the time. I think of all those kids that build/tinker create that seem to think that ‘outside’ school and don’t equate it with learning #saskedchat
I think showing students (and ourselves) that we have just as much to learn as them is important. I fully support the recent movement to put ourselves on the same level as students, rather than allowing teachers to be considered 'above them'. #saskedchat
Q4: It’s important for students to see me learning so they know it’s an ongoing process. I love when students come and tell me about the books they’re reading, and say “you have to read this!” #saskedchat
A4: to go off the balanced literacy model, step 1 is modelling which can be applied to teachers modelling life long learning and growth then talking about it #saskedchat
A4 I want my kids at home and at school to see learning as a good thing - and that the 20ish years of learning I have done aren’t done just because I’m a principal...dare I say there is still lots of learning left to go? life long learning is not a punishment! #saskedchat
A4: Teaching is leadership. Both involved modelling and inspiring. Both involve incredible communication, both in words and actions.
When we demonstrate love of learning and truly approach love as a verb, we spark and we reinforce.
Teaching is leading
#saskedchat
Often at grad time, commencement speeches are about the 'real world.' Classrooms can be isolating and detached from real world. So, lets encourage our students to apply what they learn to more than just the test. This will enhance student love for learning #saskedchat
There’s no certain area or knowledge base that must be completed, learning is ongoing based on interest and passions! I enjoy learning more now than when I was a kid in school! #saskedchat
A5 I was happy to hear that some people are tuning into our school twitter channel for the first time...my occasional singing and other videos have gotten positive feedback....not the actual singing one at @sd47_edgehill so much, but.... #saskedchat
A5. I use @SkypeClassroom and Mystery Skype in the Classroom. Keeping my student's globally connected encourages empathy! And @MicrosoftTeams for collaboration, creativity and problem-solving. #saskedchat
A5 That is easy! Right now our grade 8’s are working collaboratively with the city to build an outdoor classroom and other areas on our school grounds. https://t.co/rHjJK4aApp#saskedchat
A4 & 5 making our own learning visible helps - I’ve been putting up the book covers of what I’ve been reading and some kids have asked some good questions about why I read so much (gotta read to lead as my buddy @reidfindlay says and models!) #saskedchat
A5: during my internship, the school had "pastries with parents" type events before school in the morning where donuts and coffee were provided and parents could come for half an hour and read with their child(ren) before school/work! #saskedchat

We need to stop the ‘trial by fire’, ‘don’t smile until Christmas’, and other negative messages that beginning teachers hear and replace them with positive and relationship building messages. “Because it’s always been this way” has no place in education. #saskedchat

Good point! I have seen this among junior high students who use Flipgrid to personalize learning and link what is learned to their experience - while at the same time attempting to be articulate on recorded videos #saskedchat
That is so very important - building connections with community to build bridges of communication. The doors of schools have been closed to communities for too long #saskedchat
A6. I love when our team recognizes students for their effort and character. Our school community is a family. People may not always agree but we are all on the same mission. The positivity, feedback, and relationships are what it’s all about. #saskedchat
A6. We all have a network of comfortable people. Am I intentionally developing relationships with people that are very different biologically, physically, functionally, politically, culturally, and socioeconomically? #saskedchat
I love that our school community is committed to every students and we are embracing more as a school community after last year being tough #saskedchat
I so agree with this! I know I am a young, pre-service teacher but I believe in showing students my actual, warm and kind, personality! I think students can see through some of those attitudes. I have been told some of those things though, and I don't believe in them! #saskedchat

Wakelet is awesome - I wish I’d found it earlier! I’m just getting into some of the neat things it can do! #saskedchat it’s a sleeper app I’m telling you!
Gotta be who you are and be willing to build relationships - had a kiddo see me at the store yesterday and give me a hug (it was our second snow day and he missed seeing me) my own kids think it’s weird when other kids shout hi to me... #saskedchat

A coach can be tough on their players, expect hard work, push players to their max, AND gain respect from players. Teachers can do the same! Respect them and they will respect you. Show them you care! Motivate! #edchat#tlap#MasteryChat#oklaed
This 'advice' immediately discourages new Ts. Hearing these things makes one feel like they shouldn't even bother trying which is not what anyone wants. It applies to Ss too; when a S walks into a class and is told it's 'almost impossible to pass', they give up. #saskedchat

I try to share what different schools and teachers are doing via twitter by retweeting them to different groups. I hope that by sharing some of these great things, people can see that schools definitely are changing. #saskedchat
That is fantastic. As Dr. @DrDebbiePushor reminds us, effective parent-teacher relationship is key to successful educational outcomes. It is great that you were able to experience this as a student teacher #parentengagement#saskedchat
A2 I love the collaboration with staff, taking input from Ss on ideas on how to learn and seeing the ‘light bulb’ turn on when something clicks #saskedchat
A7: I haven't used this one yet, but DEFINITELY plan to! @kbhildebrandt introduced me to a Google Chrome extension for distraction free youtube that can stop weird ads and recommended videos from the sides when showing youtube videos! #saskedchat#edtc300https://t.co/qg8DwkIq6C
R7: I’m a really big fan of @wevideo. It gives my Ss the chance to create an authentic creation that can be shared with an audience through social media. #saskedchat
A7: Your community and kindness can be great ways to provide your Ss with unique experiences, guests, and field trips. I was able to supplement my community's summer reading program w/ the FREE resources I found around the area. #saskedchat
A7 My new “must read” from @ltoddrose: Dark Horse (his End of Average also fits nicely with Mindfulness, @joboaler Mindful Mathematics Find your Why by @simonsinek and @DanielPink Drive) #saskedchat
Ooh and if you are or have a student teacher @TheWeirdTeacher Classroom of One
A8: I am a pretty optimistic person and usually I am able to find the "upside" of things and I really try to show that to my students! I also like remind them that I don't really like the word "can't"! I always joke that they aren't allowed to say it in my classes! #saskedchat
A8: Have open and honest conversations with them. Encourage them to show love to each other in small and big ways. Show them daily how much you value them as individuals. #saskedchat
A6 support and appreciation expressed through emails and thoughtful gestures are always treasured when they are from your SCC. When funding is given to support classroom and school initiatives, you know they have your back #saskedchat
A8 focusing on key competencies to help show that they are not a “grade” nor a “type” of student, but an individual who deserves to graduate with dignity! #saskedchat
Thank you #saskedchat and the always awesome @kellywchris!
Tons of warmth talking the love of teaching on Valentine's Day ♥️
Y'all are inspiring! Hope you have a fantastic Friday spreading your talents!
R8: I don’t ever “sugar coat” things with my Ss. I also share my experiences of failure with them. Sometimes letting them know the truth is a great way of connecting with them. #Saskedchat
A8. Do your best to model love every day... be transparent... be empathetic... walk in their shoes and teach from your wisdom. They’re relying on it!! #saskedchat
