#NBCTchatter exists to promote accomplished teaching practices based on the research of the National Board of Professional Teaching standards and the experience of NBCTs. Good evening! I'm Sylvia, Writing Coach / Reading Teacher @BrandonHSEagles .. I'm part of the moderating team of #NBCTchatter ... I'm ready for an exciting conversation tonight!

#NBCTchatter A1: I am a National Board certified teacher that is more aware of the variety of brains in the library/classroom and what their priority learning objectives need to be at that very moment we connect.
A1: Although decent evaluation/FSA scores are great...I am an accomplished teacher because I see growth in ALL my students academically, socially, and emotionally each year. #NBCTchatter
A1 I am a teacher leader - instructional coach because I have used my desire as a life-long learner to have a lasting impact with students ... #NBCTchatter

#NBCTchatter A2: My personal measure is the vibe of the student when they leave my lesson. Coming into the library baffled and leaving relieved, satisfied, and more knowledgeable about how to be an independent learner. My compass is their attitude and their notes on my lesson.
Reflection is one of the key factors in growth. It is important to ask ourselves each day, “what did I learn from engaging with my students today?” #NBCTchatter

A2: Are kids mastering the standard being taught that day? Do I hear it in their conversations, do I see it in their written responses, are they asking meaningful questions about the content. #NBCTchatter

A2 Love this Question ... I believe that my assessment of their learning is my compass ... if they are not getting it, I need to change my method to fit their learning needs ... not just say the same thing again & again :) #NBCTchatter
Hearing it in their conversations would mean that you planned for conversation ... so much is needed for these things to happen -- Accomplished teachers plan carefully and thoroughly :) #NBCTchatter

I think how we respond to push back and dissent. If we react emotionally, students (or teachers) won’t feel safe giving us feedback in the future #NBCTchatter
