A1: Education's role has changed dramatically w/ what's available now. It is not about knowing, but what are you doing with it?
A1) Because of the infusion of technology teachers are becoming more facilitators, coaches, and guides for their students
A1: T's have the opp to be a facilitator & a learner in their own classrooms. T's don't have to know all the answers anymore.
A1 More Ts becoming facilitators of learning, but shift is hard and requires support.
Good morning! 1st grade teacher from KY! Can't wait to share with the pros!
With teachers no longer need to know everything. We can facilitate student exploration of the world.
A1:Ts now have the ability to truly DI, and monitor learning in real time. Ts can support Ss in so many ways with
Brett checking in for a bit. 6th, SS and Math. Iowa is home, currently visit Boston
A1: Teachers are now more like "facilitators." If done correctly, can empower student-centered learning!
A1: allows teachers to be "guide on the side" rather than "sage on the stage."
Good morning, Senator Rocco.
A1: I don't think it has changed. The goal is still to help kids learn, the METHODS are totally different now
A1: Teachers are more comfortable taking that secondary role as facilitator.
A1 - in theory a lot. In practice not that much. More resources does not translate directly to a new role
A1 gives has helped teachers move away from the front of the room & CAN fundamentally change the role of the teacher.
A1: Ts are no longer content deliverers. Info is all out there. We provide relevance & context to make learning matter
Q1 - The students often know more than we do...
Good morning K-6 lead learner checking in from central MA
A1: teachers role has changed from being the center/focal point of all instruction/teaching/learning to becoming the facilitator
A1 Teachers have become facilitators, encouraging students to take the lead on their learning, cheering them along the way!
Good morning, Susan form VA joking in late!
A1 immediate access to info, collaboration, engagement, efficiency, feedback, orgnaization
A1: Ts are also doing the learning. Learning has expanded outside of the classroom and let's the Ss be Ts as well. Collaboration.
Morning ! I am a PK-12 Superintendent in Virginia
A1. Ts have become explorers of how tech can help facilitate learning. Inventors of how tech can promote learning
We missed you! : ) No worries, my friend! We will see you next week!
Love this! going to use these sayings in class!
A1 Teachers are using edtech to enhance their own learning and learning of Ss. Ts are the probers, the intrigues
A1: Boundaries have been shattered. The parameters for growth via learning and sharing have been stretched immensely.
markbarnes19: Hot rainy day in , home of champions and lovers of
A1: Ts are more of facilitators, opens up learning for Ts. They can learn right along with students
A1: Teachers have ability to collaborate beyond the walls of their schools - builds enthusiasm, passion and expertise
A1 - simple... Teachers have gone from the source to a resource; from director to facilitator; from T centred to S centred
A1 Teachers need spend less CLASS TIME in content delivery and more time in active learning.
A1: Information is everywhere-teachers now must help students evaluate and create rather then just consuming content. .
A1: Teacher have become facilitators and 'cheerleaders' of internationally connected learning due to .
This is so true - and with that change we need to rethink evaluation (especially standardized testing) https://t.co/hPg5vx9Z1N
A1: Education's role has changed dramatically w/ what's available now. It is not about knowing, but what are you doing with it?
Good morning. Marie from Florida βοΈ
A1 also gives students unlimited opportunities to show their understanding. If we will just get out of their way!
A1: Teachers are reminded: The one who talks the most, learns the most.
It's allowed teachers to teach in a greater variety of ways
So very true, if done correctly! I feel that I am still learning myself! A process of giving up control!
A1: Utilizing the teacher becomes the facilitator. Collaboration and critical thinking can be harnessed in positive ways.
Multiple pathways 2 engage Ss & for Ss 2 demonstrate learning, PD 24/7, silos break down, info a click away https://t.co/7Jv8AX77Js
I wonder how much and induction are supporting shift to facilitation. This is new for many Ts.
Yes! https://t.co/kyHvnzrnFK
A1: I don't think it has changed. The goal is still to help kids learn, the METHODS are totally different now
A1:Teachers have become instructors that can easily teach across curriculum through edtech. Sci, Math, Hist, Eng in 1 place.
Good morning! Desiree from MI glad to be back in this chat!
. has improved, not reduced, the ability to build relationships w/ kids - the most important part of the job.
one many things to reconsider....
great point.
A1 Edtech has allowed for different ways to access content and learning. Allows teachers to let kids do more leading.
Good morning by the way π Joan from FL
A1: allows for building greater outside knowledge than the 4 walls of a classroom. Bring the outside to the inside!
A1 has made Teachers more Β»controllable" for the students.
Exactly! Learning and connecting with others outside the classroom walls has been wonderful and beneficial!
A1 Having said that, Ts today have more resources & options for student learning than ever before
A1 Profound impact on how T learn to teach. Constant PD ave 24/7. T's now learners ALL the time
Good morning Sandi from NJ.
Good morning! Clint from Athens Ga
A1 It is catalyst for our current Ed philosophy and has changed the scope of teaching for the better.
Good question! Hopefully internships are placed in good models.
A1: learning is now inquiry focused w the world at our finger tips
Great point:
https://t.co/Q6iod5IMcr
. has improved, not reduced, the ability to build relationships w/ kids - the most important part of the job.
A1) Everything change with the knowledge meant from the front of the room to the students' hands. This must be embraced.
A1) As a T, we find ourselves part of the learning process as well; opportunity to empower Ss with more choice and voice
. absolutely. Let Ss ask and follow the flow of their questions. Direct them to the content you want them to learn
A1 Benefits have been realized by both Ts & Ss-Such opportunities 2 Communicate-Collaborate-Create-Future holds even more potential
Hi, Joe from CT, instructional leader
Ss centered learning , let Ss pick what topics they are interested in
A1 You mean: Students can use Google faster than the teacher? ;-)
A1: Ts are no longer the disseminators of information, they are more the facilitators for Ss to search for the info via edtech
A1 Technology has enabled students to go beyond the walls of their classroom to connect, learn & share information in real time.
A1. I agree 100% and we try to move forward everyday. I also think we claim victory to easy in this area https://t.co/JL2h6CkN1d
I wonder how much and induction are supporting shift to facilitation. This is new for many Ts.
Jumping in for Here from MI!
Trying a for the 1st time from KY!
However, I still think Tchrs need to hold onto content. allows tchrs to still βteachβ & then transforms class time
A1: Not only content & pedagogy to stay abreast of for PD, but also a rapidly evolving set of technology skills/resources
In addition I think creativity, critical thinking and communication has been added in the classroom!
A1: we need to show our Ss that just because it is out there does not make it true or accurate. Finding relevant info is critical.
How do we get more to take advantage of the 24/7 PD aspect edtech?
Agreed. Renews that passion! https://t.co/sf6UI6qtwc
A1: Teachers have ability to collaborate beyond the walls of their schools - builds enthusiasm, passion and expertise
Ts have opportunities to collaborate & learn with Ts from everywhere . .
THIS!
https://t.co/HLS5gUj68C
A1 Benefits have been realized by both Ts & Ss-Such opportunities 2 Communicate-Collaborate-Create-Future holds even more potential
A1: Many courses have been more student-driven/project-based & collaborative.
So true! Showing them the world has become so much easier and engaging
A1: we ask students to take chances, change, and try new things gives us the chance to mode it! https://t.co/PDhilDhmjC
So true, but does change teaching? https://t.co/F1v4YAj608
A1 Having said that, Ts today have more resources & options for student learning than ever before
A1: Students can also teach their teachers, in a help desk format, how to use a new tool. Empowerment.
A1. encourages Ts to get out of isolation/learn from others. It provides opportunities for Ss to learn from others too.
A1 As so many have said CAN change the role of teacher, but requires shifts in thinking from admins & community
Welcome aboard - this crew rocks.
A1 W/ edtech classes are no longer sit & get;Ts & Ss have access to constantly developing tools; Ts are guides rather than experts
I appreciate your emphasis on CAN...not WILL. Must be intentional on the part of the Teacher...won't just happen!
Morning peeps! Would love for you to join us for the launch of ! Excited to learn w/ you all. https://t.co/IccA06RlrO
welcome is fast paced :-)
Yes, this is such an important skill to teach. Too many people still believe anything they read
Ts need to move away from the front of the room.
Love this idea! What does this look like in the classroom?
Exactly. But has that really changed teachers? Administrators? Schools? https://t.co/7Cvrx9epW4
A1 Technology has enabled students to go beyond the walls of their classroom to connect, learn & share information in real time.
A1: The need to stay current with 21st Century instructional practices.
A1 A necessary shift is to support rapid cycles of trial and error and freedom for teachers https://t.co/fJcDMBW3hr
A1. has also removed barriers that might be associated with differentiation.
Hi ! I'm Andrew popping in from Massachusetts
Have to agree. Still see tchrs standing in front of clsrm lecturing. Rows of desks. Need change to take place immediately.
A1 has it fundamentally changed ... Still about creating learning opportunities ...creates more ways in which to show learning
Unfortuntiely, many still use as just more of the same old. The key is not tech, it is good pedagogy.
A1 We've had to lose old ways of thinking & seriously change pedagogy
A1 Edtech has allowed for deeper collaboration between students & teachers. They can partner together in learning!
Agree, no more competition but working together because the students deserve it!
True, not just "Use this edtech!" but guidance, patience and willingness to listen and learn alongside ts
so much information is available now, yet I question if we are smarter as a result.
Hi
Carl sitting outside a pizza shop waiting to pick up my daughter b4 closing Where am I? You do the maths https://t.co/mICFmzrtrt
A1 We need to show S's how to use for learning. It is the most powerful tool they will have besides their mind.
and from the teachers as well right? Many still don't think edtech integration into practice is needed
is not the answer to good classroomsβgood pedagogy is! But tech CAN help when used well.
A1: I feel that Ts are learning along side Ss and guiding/facilitating through lessons. We don't talk about what but what if and do
yes and that's why it's so important for Ts to have a !!
Good morning. Maity from Pittsburgh!
QUESTION 2
Q2: Should teachers create learning opportunities with beyond the school day? Explain. https://t.co/jBo3hGyvZQ
A1. The use of promotes exploring & innovation by both the T & S. As many tools encourage you jump in & try it!
Edtech not the driver but the accelerator . Lets use edtech correctly
Many T's overwhelmed by resources, have to teach new literacies to T's to ID resources good for themselves.
Yes, so very true. Hard to do without everyone on board. https://t.co/OZ2eo8YnHV
A1 As so many have said CAN change the role of teacher, but requires shifts in thinking from admins & community
Yes! & the learning is not limited to peers in 1 class or 1 school...Tech breaks down the wall, builds the connections!
A1: Tech allows teachers to be more of a facilitator not "sage on stage"
Indeed--mindset shifts required at all levels--including students and parents
It doesn't have to change teaching but it can.
A1: the classroom is not 4 walls anymore. Learning technologies open up the walls for our students everyday
enables more learning opportunities but if the teacher only uses a few is it really liberating our profession?
The role has changed in terms of being a constant learner. Keeping up and evolving every year as an educator. Much harder now.
A2: Yes, access to resources, ability to reflect, flipped info, opportunities to connect to each other
Hi! Headed your way this wednesday to Seven Springs for the PCTM Math conference!
Edtech allows for a less superficial and mord realistic level of inquiry
High octane stuff from - nicely done.
A1: edtech has given the Ss more power to control their own learning. We need to show them the different ways they can do this.
YES! Any way that Ss can connect and apply what they are learning OUTside of the classroom is key!
Teaching is less isolating with advent of or in general. Larger network to connect with & share with. Like this one!
A2: If Ts want to truly entrain the learning using edtech, opportunities for use outside of school are essential
A1 The ss now have the world at their fingertips, instant answers to any question. But must be careful in what they seek & believe.
Most think tech is needed but few understand how to integrate effectively
A1: It's allowed Ts to teach outside the 4 walls of their classroom. We're preparing our students for future better than ever.
A1: Students can be consumers and creators!
A2. I would say yes. Extending the learning outside of the school day allows for both a family & community connection to learning.
. Prob, but create our own! I changed "lesson plan" title to "student experience' and the 4Cs guide that.
A2 I think it depends on the community you teach. e.g. if only ~50% have access at home, that's not at all fair
Teaching Ss to create, connect & share their work w/ world opens doors-learning doesn't stop at 3:30 π https://t.co/0iV6t89dmU
QUESTION 2
Q2: Should teachers create learning opportunities with beyond the school day? Explain. https://t.co/jBo3hGyvZQ
A2 With the resources available, learning shouldn't end. It's easy to create opps for Ss outside class. It's a matter of T pref.
Jenny... Middle School Head at St. Martin's.
^DH#WW2 Question: Would Hitler's invasion of Russia been more successful if he had waited to invade? https://t.co/THiiNxws7n
Make learning visible https://t.co/0dv31tRVXI Offer opportunities to Ss to make decisions & set their path towards success
I've heard this conversation for 20 yrs. At some pt it really has to happen https://t.co/pOk3EviNMJ
Have to agree. Still see tchrs standing in front of clsrm lecturing. Rows of desks. Need change to take place immediately.
They're r sporadic spots of change but as a system it has not. Somehow have to move the ship.
Welcome to My advice is don't try to keep up - read and participate at your own pace as this chat FLIES
This is the important message! Tech without pedagogical change is fraught!
A2:Yes. Learning doesn't just happen inside a school. It's everywhere. Want Ss to be curious anywhere they are.
A2: I see that as an ideal situation as more Ss have access to tech. We are 1:1, so asking Ss to use tech at home is reasonable now.
A2: Yes and no. We need to stop requiring Ss "donate" their home time to school, but DO provide choices & opps for them.
A2 Teachers should enable students to use tech for ed purposes at any time. My website is open 24/7 https://t.co/rh04nHQzGQ
A2: has allowed Ts to move from in front of the room to all around the room. Ts must be constant learners and risk takers
teachers are opportunity creators ... Creates new and improved ways to facilitate learning
Exactly. It's important to teach critical thinking skills constantly.
A1: Teachers are connecting the world with students via & supporting the development of critical thinking skills.
A2. Learning is 24/7. Tech helps promote that w/ the ability for kids to continue their lesson anywhere outside of classroom.
A2 Beyond school day work is HOMEWORK. Treat with care and must be purposeful.
Hey PLN we have resources (articles and video) for today's chat posted here at bottom of Q's
https://t.co/K84yty7NR3
A2: Flipped classrooms make this essential.
I've read a quote about ed tech being an "amplifier" of both good & bad pedagogy in the classroom... that's notable.
A2: Sure! Ss are always learning. Why not channel that in a positive direction?
A major challenges--teaching critical analysis of sources, making sense out of flood of information
A1b. Questions can be investigated now. Never will I don't know be an answer again
My view on edtech has changed. At first, I was the one using the tech. Now, my Ss are using the tech to learn. This is the goal.
Thinking about TPACK both are needed in addition to content and knowledge! https://t.co/359Z3KH7uI
is not the answer to good classroomsβgood pedagogy is! But tech CAN help when used well.
A2 my students love when I I react with them on Google CR outside of class. Extends the learning
one of the most important thing at all with using edtech is to always think about how edtech going to support my learning outcome
A2 Itβs not so much about additional learning opportunities;itβs more about being in a LearningNetwork.Students should participate.
A1: there is no front of the class and often roles of T and S switch
Exactly, but when? I think it has for folks here this morning. But the vast majority??? https://t.co/bS2cYoEv3A
It doesn't have to change teaching but it can.
A2 yes! Providing all kids understand digital citizenship & parents too can support usage beyond classroom supervision
Sorry I was using voice to text on a new device it doesn't know me yet
A1 Ts need to understand the possibilities of edtech. And realize , edtech doesn't take away freedom to teach but enhances it
Yes. Keep thinking we are creating a disservice to the present Ss. Need to do something to avoid losing them.
A1 edtech is a tool-it is only as good as the person's understanding of the tool & how to use it effectively to drive S achievement
A2 makes learning 24/7 possible. Ts have to facilitate projects that encourage constant thinking and learning.
Excellent point! Ts need to know the difference between teaching tack and using tech to enhance S learning. https://t.co/inybQVzFnf
Edtech not the driver but the accelerator . Lets use edtech correctly
If students are to make the maximum possible progress they need to reinforce at home can help facilitate this
Absolutely! Step away from nostalgia practices-move toward the tools kids need so they R engaged, self motivated!!
A2: many Ts do with flipped classrooms and Google classroom activities. I think it enhances overall S learning.
this is most important! Our Ss are creating and exploring more than ever.
Create opportunities, yes. Force them on students, No.
Yes and can reveal to leadership ways to help struggling teachers.
A2 learning can be 24/7 but just because we can does not mean we should ... Can inspire more learning but not assign more learning
Good morning - looking forward to learning...
A2: yes. Ts need to build inquiry into the Ss mindset. Nothing beats hearing a story from a S about learning outside room is great!
A2: YES! I love the flipped idea, but not for kiwer grades must have opportunities to do same in class. Tutor times for Ss & Ps
A2 Yes - if fosters and but not as additional content delivery.
agreed. This is not only for Ss, but adults as well.
That's where effective school and district planning come in--use of pilot schools, innovation labs, PD
A teacher is a community partner focused on safety, learning & growth, & committed to a culture in which children always come 1st.
Focus on growth towards standards and not arbitrary deadlines
Focus on new knowledge & understandings not a score
Yes! Teaching Ss to ask questions, to think for themselves, and truly become life long learners https://t.co/IayMtSfQC3
. absolutely. Let Ss ask and follow the flow of their questions. Direct them to the content you want them to learn
We should point out where learning opportunities exist outside of school day... live events etc
Great point. The connection to learning outside the classroom.
https://t.co/GZ4V1mu0P7
A2: yes. Ts need to build inquiry into the Ss mindset. Nothing beats hearing a story from a S about learning outside room is great!
Teachers don't want tech & price tags thrown at them! They want tools that will inspire, motivate & challenge learner.
A2: After school edtech can be motivating practice or HW as long as it isn't required.Allowing S's a choice or creative outlet, yes!
great chat. Great questions. Great mods. It's a must. ;)
A2 students need opportunities outside the classroom to connect, enrich their learning- teacher needs to model this
A2: I can't say yes enough!! As much as we can engage Ss in quality, active learning outside school, the more benefit for them!
True. But I think offering it as an option and and not an assignment would be beneficial.
A2) I have. I have a school tech team where we explore new applications, coding, shortcuts, etc. Kids love it
A2:Learning should be accessible 24-7 however Ts should keep in mind that not all there Ss have access at how when creating lessons
Agree, but nature of science needs all of us building new knowledge too not just using accepted ideas.
A2: Ts are helping to create independent learners with critical/creative thinking skills... helps enhance S learning 24/7.
I don't think we should use that as an excuse. Stretch the Ss that DO have access.
A2 Learning opportunities beyond school day should be OFFERED, but as homework as opportunities
A1 with the teacher learns/prob-solvers alongside students which requires a willingness to learn & make mistakes
A1: allows learning to happen anytime and anywhere. Teachers and students are more connected!
A2β is (IMHO) the ideal way to create outside learning experiences for students.
If teaching has changed so much due to , why arenβt Ss with special needs seeing the benefits? We need to reach all learners
Q2: if the learning is relevant it should naturally go beyond the brick and mortar walls of a school day into the real world for Ss
A2 With effective teaching & student interest, ss continue using on their own w/out the teacher having to do much.
A2: We don't want Ss to merely think of edtech learning as "school work" only, but real work that they will use daily forever
Good point. So our work with parents is essential too on this integration of
https://t.co/PnZgpmKKfe
If students are to make the maximum possible progress they need to reinforce at home can help facilitate this
A2 Hmmm... since when was learning limited by time?
A2 Teachers should provide enrichment learning opportunities beyond the school day for all students using . Make it optional.
Teachers don't want tech & price tags thrown at them! They want tools that will inspire, motivate & challenge learning.
I bet everyone here was a 24 hr learner when they were a kid. Regardless of tech - why? What made us curious? That is the key
A2 - more and more, teachers are availing S to "rewind lesson" opportunities (screen casts, podcasts, YouTube videos)
These are exactly the Ss who can benefit most. In what ways are they not ready? How can we help them get there?
Flipped learning is the way forward as it provides opportunity to do different things as the content has been covered
yes. which is why Ts standing and delivering content needs to change. No need to just sit and listen
A2: well Ss create those opportunities outside of class on their own so we better try to keep up!
Learning beyond the school day has become essential...especially for ESOL students who need home resources in another language
A2: Ts should create learning opportunities outside of school. Let the Ss decide what tech they will use.The power is in the choice.
This is an essential and needed question. We need to integrate for EVERY student. https://t.co/CYKeTKY5cI
If teaching has changed so much due to , why arenβt Ss with special needs seeing the benefits? We need to reach all learners
Nice https://t.co/986bddXeFw
A2: Ts are helping to create independent learners with critical/creative thinking skills... helps enhance S learning 24/7.
A2: If it will benefit the student we should!
A2 learning shouldn't stop at the bell. The real question is how to extend the learning meaningfully
I teach in a fortunate district w/95+% tech access. If not, I wouldn't devote much time to out-of-school tech-based asst
A2: Show Ss how they can extend their learning, find connections & be good digcitizens. Shouldn't make Ss dislike tech w more work
A2) As with any engaging work, opportunities created outside of the classroom reinforces the skill and engagement.
A2: if Ss are truly engaged, they won't see learning opportunities outside the classroom as a chore.
Good point--tech is just the tool, but the assignment needs to be relevant/meaningful for the S
and stepping away from comfort & control, don't you think?
Yes! - excellent point.
https://t.co/oedhQYDYat
Teachers don't want tech & price tags thrown at them! They want tools that will inspire, motivate & challenge learning.
A2 in our out of classroom - the playlist of learning created by Ts are available anywhere so the Ss choose when/where to learn
, as well as remote summer book clubs using can help flatten classroom walls using
This! https://t.co/Z0qqtgJTWt
Q2: if the learning is relevant it should naturally go beyond the brick and mortar walls of a school day into the real world for Ss
Yes. The learning must take precedence. Before purchase tech need to understand the goal of the lesson. UDL
When I read this question I thought of homework, personalizing it for the students and projects.
A2: The goal is to integrate Tech into their lives not just their learning, to meet the demands of the global world
Equity needs to be considered https://t.co/9QYPGD01bT
A2:Learning should be accessible 24-7 however Ts should keep in mind that not all there Ss have access at how when creating lessons
I think some of them are! I know that will be my job this year, support SpEd T's w/impl. of tech for S's.
A2: yes, tools should be used to inspire and motivate Ss to continue learning outside of school
A1: has made formative assessment more efficient (polls, instant feedback, etc) which is π for all learners.
A1: Ed Tech hasn't changed the teacher's role as much as it's clarified the "seek to understand" aspect of effective instruction.
Yes. effective district planning is key
Good morning from Mass. . Brian, HS principal
Learning evening for parents to come in and see what's happening helps with this
A2: I know my Ss love using beyond the school day. I share sites with them to explore on their own away fro school.
A2 absolutely, Ss experience what today's world is like. Learning continues after school
If digital opportunities are engaging & relevant, Ss more likely to choose to "invest" their home time. https://t.co/D6jhECWW66
A2: Yes and no. We need to stop requiring Ss "donate" their home time to school, but DO provide choices & opps for them.
I see really improving short term outcomes for my SpecEd S's! Differentiation is more S focused and specific
Those Ss that are passionate about their learning. Wouldn't want to stop motivation to learn because of logistics
Yes as long as it's not HOMEWORK! My bias! https://t.co/QHSlXNr0u4
A2: I can't say yes enough!! As much as we can engage Ss in quality, active learning outside school, the more benefit for them!
meaningfully is the key word here. How to do effectively for all learners? That's the $1M question.
https://t.co/V4qHtyqACW
A2 learning shouldn't stop at the bell. The real question is how to extend the learning meaningfully
Good morning - Bill, principal MA - been awhile = good topics
A2: can extend the learning beyond the classroom...just keeping in mind that Ts need a break at the end of each day.
A2 A key message for our kids is learning never stops-so learning outside of school day is key-Ss have choice/voice/vision/support
A3: The SAMR Model shows that should enhance and redefine instruction, not replace interaction. https://t.co/2MYdjuoRgj
A2: Must be careful to coord.nw/ colleagues to be sure what is created f/out of school is manageable by family & home resources.
Curious kids are curious about irrelevant assignments too. I'm still trying to figure out why. https://t.co/zKzUVIlakd
Good point--tech is just the tool, but the assignment needs to be relevant/meaningful for the S
If you're going to make learning available 24/7 you better be there 24/7 to answer kids' questions if not than it is a disservice
and because it's easier, Ts can now back away from grading formatives and just use them for instr. decisions
A2. Asynchronous opportunities via edtech should be considered for the leaning to continue beyond school walls and bell schedule.
A2 edtech should be differentiated for all Ss-extend it outside of school not for a grade but bc Ss r inspired&want more knowledge
Yep! That's my job this year. Help T's w/SpEd S's to int. more tech that will benefit the S's.
A3. Make use meaningful, for creating, innovating, use it as a tool after f2f collaboration has taken place.
Depends on the teacher. Some teacher know much more about tech than their students ;-) But yes: In general you are right
Ss have so many "issues" that they miss the big picture. We help them by making relationships
... like the 2 class sets of "clickers" that are collecting dust in my school's closet?!
A2:Students are creating and consuming at home too.Why not extend? We can show ss who don't have access how/where to get it.
Q3: How do educators encourage more use while helping students maintain face to face connections? https://t.co/cghaODm9U0
agreed! once we figure it out we will all be on easy street!
A3: should be ONE part of . F2F communication is essential & should be encouraged. It's a life skill.
A2 absolutely teachers should create learning opportunities outside the school day, but take care to ensure no
Yes! They love snapchat, so we need to infuse snapchat!
and even IWBβs that are only used as lecture tools.
I want Ss to reflect on Friday, post on and then have Ps respond either on post after they talk on the weekend
A2: My preference is to pique curiosity that will result in S's initiating their own learning experiences.
markbarnes19: jvincentsen lorimcewen Most think tech is needed but few understand how to integrate effectively
markbarnes19: ScottRRocco Create opportunities, yes. Force them on students, No.
markbarnes19: lorimcewen jvincentsen Yes. effective district planning is key conniehamilton
markbarnes19: MathDenisNJ Yes! They love snapchat, so we need to infuse snapchat!
Good point-My son w/ autism has seen great gains with a 1-1 initiative in his school. T's just know how to use it.
Wow. Don't underestimate your Ss and their desire to learn more. π
Giving students choice in their learning helps - here's the learning target, what would you like to do to meet it?
A2: I think so. Again, edtech has changed a lot of things. Edtech should inspire ss and Ts to create and refine wherever they are
Connecting w/Ss using social media to share book recommendations & books currently reading to help take learning outside class.
A2 Yes, but let's think differently about "school day" can = anytime, anywhere learning. Some Ss only come into bldng weekly
A2: isn't it important for the Ss to make the connection between what they are learning and their world? Not me tell them.
Let's find a way! MAke it part of a experience!
A2 access 1st step 2 equity - in & out of school - is phasing in 4G 2 our community of learners across 726 sq miles
Yes but why do we insist on classifying learning by age, grade, school, college or university?
Those stories make me want to cry.... So many ways I would use them to display & involve *student* work!
. UDL reaches all learners. Need to proactively embed and offer Ss choices.
A3 blending face-to-face and devices comes naturally to students to some extent
Along with rethinking the role of teachers, we should redesign the whole school system
Ensure that skills aren't just about technology, but also communication, collaboration and critical thinking.
Agree wholeheartedly!! They are using tech anyway, so why not engage them in quality, active learning? https://t.co/m3f66uoHhJ
Yes as long as it's not HOMEWORK! My bias! https://t.co/QHSlXNr0u4
A2: I can't say yes enough!! As much as we can engage Ss in quality, active learning outside school, the more benefit for them!
serves to remind adults that we are all learners first. Gone are the days of "the sage on the stage". Why not embrace it?
You hit the nail on the head here, Chris. Our work day never seems to end - important to turn off tech sometimes!
A3. All about balance. Each is not mutually exclusive. Model your expectations!
A2: digital discussion boards have introduced voices not previously heard.
A2 As get creative by extending access to technology at night to Ss families & Ts provide opportunities = community win
A3: Make independent projects with and practice soft skills and collaboration without it.
That's awesome! I can't wait to read it.
A3: There needs to be an interdisciplinary focus on digital literacy so Ss see the importance of these skills in all contexts
A3: The tech can be a means to facilitate face to face. It can help prepare for together time or it can be a GHO
A3: In an ideal , there is less tech during class & more hands-on, discussion, debate, collaboration.
In the real world there are no limitations when edtech is used.
Great idea!! Take the over used and boring exit ticket to the next level!
Our Ss use the library or work together. They find a way.
A3 Collaborative tasks which require face to face consultation prior to presentation of a product
Ah, did you mean ready for role of learner? All Ss are ready to learn, relationships help ignite curiosity
A3 My Blended Learning page https://t.co/e6PC4tnutT Educators should embrace hybrid ed especially in today's world.
A3: is not the first tool to learning. Interactions with Ss is still best. Edtech is an extension of learning. Ss need Ts.
A3: The ability to connect on device & in person are essential skills today. 1 does not replace the other!
Exactly, effective communication is what matters and that's all about relationships https://t.co/dGanZy9qSc
Ensure that skills aren't just about technology, but also communication, collaboration and critical thinking.
Great to hear. Itβs the effective implementation of and AT that works!
A3:It's all about planning! Ts must create an environment where is a tool to foster discussion & face to face interactions
A3 use tech to enhance, build on, create from what has already taken place in f2f collaboration
A3) Purposeful blending is important; Ts need to purposefully plan for the f2f opportunities as they do for
A3: Relationships first! Plain & simple. Then focus on tools that have high leverage to enhance learning. High tech/ high touch.
A3: By providing opportunities for students to collaborate and connect with others.
A3 use collaborative tools-pad let- today's Meet - Google Docs - Google forms - GHO's
perspectives from on inclusion of sped children in our age 5-18 coder dojo this summer worth hearing
The key Q is: What is the best use of face-to-face class time. Probably not screen time!
A3: If we start Start with empathy, can deepen those face to face connections. Learning more about each other & the world.
true but if you see the student everyday why should you think you should assign work for them every night?
A3: conversations about sound digital citizenship, using tools that promote collaboration both virtually and in the real world
But that's a tough one - I sleep at different times than my Ss :)
A2: I turn the "When will I use this?" question into the student's EQ for the week. You spend time seeing how this fits your world.
A3: Ss explore their learning while Ts encourage, guide, redirect and ensure that Ss have a T that is working with them 1:1
I feel we set Ss up for success by giving them the necessary 'tools' and helping them become independent learners.
Maker kits showcasing Trs educations purpose. Showed how MC test will NEVER yield authenticity in Ss. https://t.co/5jzPyybkdc
A3 Use in your classroom. Be a model for a Learner using and face-2-face-communication.
Nice! Very true https://t.co/ciuK6mLR3k
A3: In an ideal , there is less tech during class & more hands-on, discussion, debate, collaboration.
should leverage learning and solid teaching that is already in place.
Never heard of that. Thanks for the recommendation!
A3:Have no tech class days. Give direct instruction in how to have F2F conversations (not seen as much out of school, now)
- Love it! Was trying to say the same thing. Yours sounds much smarter. Nicely done! π€
Anytime - anywhere learning is a convenience NOT a prison sentence
A2: LOVE this use of for accountable at-home summer reading. Esp. the fab efficacy outcomes!
https://t.co/O6bWtQ7nwf
A2:Absolutely! All People are lifelong Ss and hungry to keep learning after the school day. My children rush home to do Brainpop!
Using has helped Ps talk with Ss about their learning.
Good Teaching + Poor Tech = Good Learning
Poor Teaching + Good Tech = Poor Learning
Verdict: Teaching Key
https://t.co/EWKoc9mK0Z
A3 f2f discussion, work & additional tech in class. Augmented Classroom through for collaboration, chat, after school.
A3 We must start early teaching kids that behind every device is another person...not a machine- It is still about relationships
Amen https://t.co/tpg1TlRxgd
The key Q is: What is the best use of face-to-face class time. Probably not screen time!
A3: Ts encourage group learning, PBL, Collaboration amongst Ss in the class and beyond
A3 Using tools that facilitate collab. are key. Tech doesn't mean no interaction if used right. Interaction may just be diff.
A2: And different learning styles (and Ss) need different times of the day to absorb.
. Donβt limit to special Ed Ts. Reach all Ts with need to support struggling learners with effective .
THIS ===>. Techquity for all stakeholders is a necessity! Thanks ! https://t.co/s1i0ALg8VQ
A2 As get creative by extending access to technology at night to Ss families & Ts provide opportunities = community win
It's part of many of their everyday environment, still not natural but learned. Nuanced difference, but big https://t.co/2tzXQ0MU2G
A3 blending face-to-face and devices comes naturally to students to some extent
A2:if you are creating edtech learning opportunity outside the classroom it should be a resource that can be used on any device
,
How's the most despicable bitch on the planet this morning?
A3: need to keep a balance so Ss understand the I,portable of both aspects of learning.
A3: Ts still teach, then step back and facilitate. This is real world. Edtech should be about preparing our Ss.
Q3 digital tools can enhance collaboration that then may lead to good F2F conversations skills to support
allows blended learning environments to blossom for kid and adult learners alike:
Thanks so much, Paul! Iβm glad you like it. :-)
Crucial!! Hate kids hiding behind tech. Reflection and sharing sessions to discuss assignments https://t.co/ZJaZVjHkEB
Q3: How do educators encourage more use while helping students maintain face to face connections? https://t.co/cghaODm9U0
A3 Ts need to model how to use when assigning classwork, projects. This is a tool nothing beats rich discussions on topics
so who will answer their questions? We can't leave our kids hanging. can be a tough situation
can be an ice breaker for reticent students and introverts. Start relationships on social media, continue them F2F
Real world scenarios about when to unplug and when to be digital. Face to face convo teaching is so needed w/millennials.
We've done this with tech too. Worked on conversations using Skype or GHO. Ss need to practice.
A2: EdTech is about options. When we foster a culture in which students have choices, connected tech use is meaningful & engaging.
We can talk about tech all day, but what matters most is the foundation & relationships we create as a springboard in our classes.
A3 since edtech is a tool; utilize it to enhance learning & collaboration; vet your tech before using it
A3: There's a fine line! Face-to-face human contact can never be replaced by online connections, but one can enhance the other!
A3: Tech tools for approp. tasks, there should still be time for convos & relationship building (like morning meeting & reflection)
A3) EdTech should be used to enhance connections and collaborations for teachers and students not create a greater divide.
I couldn't agree more. Scaffold and then slowly remove scaffolding till Ss reach independence.
A3: Edtech isn't always the answer. There has to be a balance. Give students choice of how to show mastery.
A3: Doing calls via GHO is a great way to get Ss connecting with others while still working face-to-face.
as a martial artist, I can't just work at the Dojo...
A3 nothing like the face to face interaction to verify and connect w Ss. But where do our Ss go 2 find out info is crucial
is a gr8 way to teach in many circumstances.
I see you are solo today hi π
A3: Allowing Ss time on tech gives me an opportunity to work 1 on 1 with them. Develop deeper connections.
If you don't want to respond to emails 24/7 ... Maybe you shouldn't assign work 24/7
Yes! should enhance and support p2p communication skills and relationships, not replace them.
Learning more about each other and the world! one thing I love about tech https://t.co/UXHhPlfEDr
A3: If we start Start with empathy, can deepen those face to face connections. Learning more about each other & the world.
digital age classroom https://t.co/JvBb9GK5T2
A3: By providing opportunities for students to collaborate and connect with others.
A3: More ionly effective as it's implementation. Must be accompanied by capacity building or it's another failed initiative
UDL implements technology in a way that levels the playing field for all Ss and demystifies the use of AT
Reflection is an essential part of tech integration. This can lead to powerful student conversations.
I'll have 22 schools this year, I'll see what I can do. ;) My hope is that SpEd T's will share w/in their schools.
Ss - Tt relationships are more important than rigor , relevance , tech. Ss will learn if they believe Ts care about them.
Definitely. I think part of our job is to teach them to become independent, learn to answer their own questions
A3 - tech should be used to make impossible .... possible. If it's just substitution is it really worth it?
A3 using asynchronous tech(Padlet) give a voice to all Ss. Ss post information that can be discussed face-to-face in the CR
A3: Provide opportunities for ss to collaborate using Create a student centered classroom and they will use the tools!
Totally agree! Could help build confidence then more willing to share F2F. has been helpful to me in that way
Has anyone encouraged students to use periscope for cooperative learning?
A3: More only effective as it's implementation. Must be accompanied by capacity building or it's another failed initiative
. Thank you. https://t.co/3NESPOUZ4P
Twitter is broken. It only lets me like this one time :) Yay for a homework-free 4th grade!!
A3: I took my personal daily activities & put them into my CR. S's discussed what they would do in the situation. Eye opening!
A3: Begin with a focus on building healthy, trusting relationships and model balance in the ways Ss and Ts connect.
Great point!
https://t.co/8MtCReIkSA
A3 nothing like the face to face interaction to verify and connect w Ss. But where do our Ss go 2 find out info is crucial
A3: When Ts find a new tool to use, encourage their exploration and sharing. Grass Roots builds its own capacity
Yes! Great resources for all.
Still very imprtant 4 Ss 2 talk w each other N science, math, etc. edtech the enhancer not the driver! https://t.co/c7mwmoha8o
A3:Have no tech class days. Give direct instruction in how to have F2F conversations (not seen as much out of school, now)
A3: edtech actually enhances some relationships with Ss. It's what they do/know best!
Agreed
https://t.co/8vTa4JHdPj
A3) EdTech should be used to enhance connections and collaborations for teachers and students not create a greater divide.
Great way to show meaningful use of tech that is used in business world today!
A4 No longer looking at what Ss need to memorize but what they can apply and create
Let me know if you need any help! We need to ensure access for all Ss.
ditto. wrote an excellent post on the same topic.
Great point. https://t.co/99bMehNdPy
If you don't want to respond to emails 24/7 ... Maybe you shouldn't assign work 24/7
A3 provide options & allow for the possibility Ss may find their own way to collaborate, back channel, produce
A4. My instruction has changed with by finding opportunities for my Ss to connect outside our classroom & school.
yes! It's just one of the tools in a Ts toolbox. Like- glue. Don't just throw it in there to say- we're using it!
digital age classroom engaging instructional strategies https://t.co/J1r37kswwx
The key Q is: What is the best use of face-to-face class time. Probably not screen time!
Amen!! Interactive pdf is NOT integrating EFFECTIVE tech practices. We tend to feel Ss can't do it. But they really can.
Edtech may help ALL students participate https://t.co/51R8KRlGhy
A3 Using tools that facilitate collab. are key. Tech doesn't mean no interaction if used right. Interaction may just be diff.
A4: I have relied less on the textbook and more on online resources and news stories for S learning to take place.
A4: So much easier now to gather/analyze real-time formative assessment data. Hard to keep up w/all of the new apps!
We have to abandon celebrating "the device". Devices are a means to an end. We don't give pencils that much credit.
A3: We must treat tech as a vehicle. It is one of many available modes of transportation. F2F must be purposefully included.
A4 has helped to make my class time more effective and efficient
A4 If students need an information they do not longer need my instruction. They use search-engines.
Agree. Both are learning, collaborating, developing relationships, etc.
A4) I am a coach--finding the right tool to reach each Ss & enhance Ss voice & choice & authentic opps. https://t.co/sWVKD0rf0m
Students can become content creators in autonomous ways to demonstrate understanding of what they've learned.
sure if you've mastered the skill and its practice but what if you're doing the skill wrong?
Lots of Ss are used to taking it in. Interacting through conversations and questions takes practice.
A4. Another shift in my instruction due to is more risk taking on my behalf & Ss too. More exploration & creating.
I would assign long term projects to answer EQs-some will work every night. Requires support in planning skills
A4: has allowed me to extend learning. Ss now know where to find further info on their own. Ss discover individually.
What about place based or problem based learning? When there's something for Ss to truly solve and apply?
A: best use of class time- collaborative student problem solving.
Instructions on how to have face to face conversations?
A3 Learning never has to stop. Start w/the types of lessons that encourage collab & what the ss want to talk about.
A4 The immediacy of the home - school communication via technology 1.0 has helped. In terms of 2.0 web tools formative assess
A3: Everyone at every level needs that social human component whether itβs collaborating, support, feedback or ππ»
A4: Global CR, authentic creation, digital Portfolios, transformational-goal directed & I became the Guide on the Side
Do you use EdPuzzle with your vids?
Scheduling is always a problem in public schools - teachers need to ensure all students have access to tech
Getting late here in Aus & struggling to keep eyes open, so bowing out. Thanks for the chats & connections. See you next week
A4: It moved my classroom to a collaborative learning environment with students taking more ownership for their learning.
A4: I am more willing to "roll out" a tech tool w/o fully understanding it b/c I know Ss will teach me.
Q4: instruction has shifted to become more personalized and learner focused because of
A3;The tech is only the beginning, or as effective as the T models, uses, problem solves and revises the learning With Ss
A4: has allowed me to change from a teacher centered to a student centered classroom!
A3: Administration can help teachers by modeling how to use tech to foster face to face interactions. Admin can't use tech to hide
I don't think it's about assigning work 24/7 but giving Ss to work when they most want to.
A4. The use of has made me more connected, more connected= more ideas, new strategies, more though partners! It impacts Ss.
A4: Because of tech integration Iβm starting my 41st year of teaching on Aug. 8. Iβm having too much fun to retire.
A4 enriched instruction, a tool for showing what Ss have learned, reflecting on their learning process
Youβre very welcome, Christina!
Is it possible to re-share today's questions?
AMEN https://t.co/puwAUaLqfU
What about place based or problem based learning? When there's something for Ss to truly solve and apply?
Yup! The boys are flying back from California and I head out to Virginia after the chat
https://t.co/gkWiX9TBv1
I see you are solo today hi π
We must ensure that isn't just about technology, but problem-solving and critical thinking: https://t.co/QHzlsRQixB
digital age classroom https://t.co/DTeeuToCM2
A3: When Ts find a new tool to use, encourage their exploration and sharing. Grass Roots builds its own capacity
And it is so much more exciting, in my opinion!
Yes. Don't forget, was made by people, working together, talking, sharing, relating. https://t.co/A7U6NMnbp5
A3: Everyone at every level needs that social human component whether itβs collaborating, support, feedback or ππ»
A4 While working on projects, students can ask for instructions via digital channels (Mail, WhatsApp etc.)
has streamlined the data collection process and can be used in real time to make focused decisions to drive instruction.
A4: challenges us to find ways that our learners can make an impact today and be change makers locally and even globally.
This is one of my goals for this year. Excited about the possibilities! https://t.co/ZsKOL5bO6L
A4. My instruction has changed with by finding opportunities for my Ss to connect outside our classroom & school.
We've made a basic in our 7 pathways 2 transform learning for all learners in every 1:1 device is loaded with suite
A4 Direct instruction time is almost zero. It's more about collaboration, creation, and communication in/outside classroom
A4: More willing to push Ss to the limit. They deserve it!
A3 My students need face to face etiquette because of using too much technology during the day. 1:1 is great but not the answer.
As it's allowed more opportunity for flipped learning I spend a lot less time on content
Lol. True! https://t.co/PEGWf4iKtp
We have to abandon celebrating "the device". Devices are a means to an end. We don't give pencils that much credit.
agree but they should have a support structure there when they have a question ...
A4: reached every student at their personal level, found their creative genius, tore down my classroom walls.
A4: expect students to create more because new creation tools are available in our 1:1 setting!
Agreed! It ignited my creativity and 'think outside the box' mentality. https://t.co/yHcmoVvjYl
A4. Another shift in my instruction due to is more risk taking on my behalf & Ss too. More exploration & creating.
digital age classroom https://t.co/Xua9lwydd8
A3;The tech is only the beginning, or as effective as the T models, uses, problem solves and revises the learning With Ss
agreed! That's when some of the best learning and teaching takes place though. Ss are passionate about tech.
I've considered it, but extra step = obstacle for Ss. Some watch on phones. Some 3rd-party providers (1/2)
A4: Able to personalize more, show S's tools to help them strengthen weak areas, increase org. skills & show learning can be fun!
A4 Huge! Blended learning in most of our classes and voice to S that have never exp. an opp. To communicate.
A4: We have become able to visit places that previously existed only in our imaginations.
A4: My Ss love all of the tech integration I incorporate into our lessons. Hate that it doesnβt happen the next yr. for them.
digital age classroom https://t.co/hzmtAYkyGJ
A4: has allowed me to change from a teacher centered to a student centered classroom!
as we move away from T centred classrooms, lessons need to focus on S centred interests within their zone of proximal development.
Things like the use of QR codes allow MORE students to converse 2 each other. Results in more inspired interaction and creativity
A4: Communication flexibility, assessment/tracking, engaging tasks, efficiency in facilitating learning have resulted from .
Agree but need to ensure it is done well. Have seen to many blended and/or online learning turn students off.
A4: integration tapped into Ss lost motivation. They enjoyed coming to class to create and explore.
digital age classroom https://t.co/eBBqgb1sv7
I don't think it's about assigning work 24/7 but giving Ss to work when they most want to.
Also place for those introverted Ss who never speak up in class to have a voice https://t.co/Bu6TQKdOWl
Instructions on how to have face to face conversations?
YES ! I π stories of T's gauging skills of ELLs/introverts via , seeing written work / thinking more clearly.
has encouraged more authenticity, higher order thinking and lifelong learning in kid and adult learners alike!
A4: instruction is personalized and learner focused because of tools. Use of UDL, inquiry & collaboration
digital age classroom https://t.co/9O3y0fCILg
A4. The use of has made me more connected, more connected= more ideas, new strategies, more though partners! It impacts Ss.
Agree - I also like the idea of Ss feeling comfortable helping each other - more than one T available.
This has to be the best tweet of the morning! Kudos to you!!! https://t.co/lV8NY5meEK
A4: Because of tech integration Iβm starting my 41st year of teaching on Aug. 8. Iβm having too much fun to retire.
A3. Tech provides broader audience for S to share & refine their learning. Goes beyond "turning in" to T for eval.
has allowed me to invite international guest speakers virtually to have deep discussions with Ss
that looked promising like Zaption have disappeared. Just Vimeo or Youtube posts seem best for now (2/2)
A4: I spend less time looking for supplemental resources for Ss. Free on-line options are readily available. And quickly.
sure...model how to have conversations about literature or what you observe during science.
A4: Canβt teach βold schoolβ style any more since ed tech became a part of my teaching style. It bores me!
A4: Edtech has broadened my own sphere of learning and knowledge that I can then share with others, powerful learning
Huzzah! π https://t.co/aa1FjsslLq
A4: has allowed me to change from a teacher centered to a student centered classroom!
true and collaborate with global educators
A4Ss becoming creators! Telling stories w/ video-animation-PSA,in math w/data collection-info graphics, meeting Ss around the world
Q5: Modern classrooms are developing students as creators. How can teachers integrate this concept at the start of the new year?
A3: Ss sit in quad teams, then naturally converse while they process & produce.
Great point about the introverted
A4 It has made real-world learning not only possible, but imperative. Ss can find content, Ts are guides on how to use it.
That is the understatement of the year!! So much yes!!! Can u imagine a class w/o it? Borrrring. π https://t.co/U3rHpbGoMl
And it is so much more exciting, in my opinion!
A4: Communication flexibility, assessment/tracking, engaging tasks, efficiency in facilitating learning have been enhanced.
A4 allows me cover more and shows Ss that I want to be innovative = Ss engaged excited
A4: Ss have choices and a voice. It has broken down the walls of the classroom by allowing us to connect with Ss and Ps more.
A4. While I agree with everyone's comments abt , the drawback is the feeling that I must be available 24/7. That's rough.
Imagine what it would do to our S's if we're bored w/out it! ;)
Saves on paper and copying!!
I'm sorry but you really think that children don't know how to have conversations?
As an elementary principal, it's connected me more and built my PLN. How do I better model for my staff and students?
A4 Thanks to the storage capacity i have materials for spontaneous use. I have more opportunities to react directly in the lesson.
A4 integration has helped make instruction more purposeful, connect experts w Ss, & empower Ss by sharing .
Some of our resources are starting to include videos of students discussion literature so they can see it modeled first.
A4: the biggest change for me was -It transformed my teaching practice more than any other thing in my 24 yrs.
A4 I have shifted to a Learning Centers environment ...Some Direct instruction occurs but kids are doing the learning while I guide
I'm so upset that is gone. I loved it!
A4: it makes getting the Ss what they need so much quicker. I like that most of them grade things as well. I can focus on teaching.
Q5 Modern classrooms are developing Ss as creators. How can Ts integrate this concept at start of new year? https://t.co/KmEhq4U82r
My leadership's changed by making more room in budget for 1:1 devices. Can't do without the . https://t.co/uWNmeRtNLE
what if they don't wish to speak? I mean, if a person is introverted, odds are they do not.
A4. If not available, then always working...so much to absorb, try, integrate...and yes, respond to.
A4 Paper is almost gone. teaching by the use of
Yes how many Ts are on board? Does it make a difference if most Ts aren't into tech?
A4: true problem/solution, higher order thinking & willingness to "dig in" (grit) towards work b/c they are engaged and like work
absolutely!! more time to spend on more important things!!
very helpful for my students as well especially in larger classes
aiming for intrinsically motivated Ss is a goal in the process
A5 show them something you have created and ask SS to share a creation of theirs, show what they know
Can you reconsider? It often helps Ss with executive function, comprehension and/or memory issues
A5: is one great way. Also, when creating units, allow for choice and flexibility of tool use to best fit Ss need
A4: I provide more options for the HOW part of the learning process.
Not sure I agree-I still see a big use for paper in the classroom.
A5 Have Ss take ownership of clsrm. From beg., make it abt creating and not spitting out info. Engage!
Ss know more than we sometimes give them credit for. I love those little surprises!
A5: Finding authentic audiences (or contexts) for assignments can help facilitate this
A4 new ways to check all Ss understanding-new ways to give all Ss voice
Taking my kids on Freedom Trail today, any suggestions for other cool Boston activities? 11th and 8th graders
A4: My Ss learned to communicate and found their voice and passion.
we have been able to open the world to our S with global connections
Why do you feel that? From Ss? admins? parents? Can you set your own boundaries?

how about a parent night to help them learn the tools I will use?
A6: let students ask Qβs. Not just in large group, but create spaces where Questioning is encouraged.
Really cool! What level is this for?
A5: Yday, I crafted sketch for . W/ & , Ss will create 3 items that offer insight into identities.
This is my personal crisis, especially serving some of the learners we have b4 us. How much=too much?
yes! Set the collaboration standard right away. S's should know that the norm in the classroom.
A5 - I love the camera on iPads. Ask students to use and use a lot. That will lead them to curiosity
A5: On the first day my Ss receive a bag with playdoh and craft supplies. They are asked to create a study buddy and write abt it.
A5: (part 2) Use which has flat learning curve, but great year-long potential f/ creation & sharing low-tech creations
Some Ts do limit hours to school time - each person sets own limits. I don't see a problem with that
It's true, w/ phone's dinging w/emails & reminds, it can seem like you are always working.
Grt question. Naturally curiosity seems 2fade as Ss go schl. Not sure why but something to ponder.
A5 Creativity is organic
not an "add on"

Ss - Tt relationships are more important than rigor , relevance , tech. Ss will learn if they believe Ts care about them.
Stop the "cover X objectives by Xmas" madness. Ask what is your class figuring out vs learning about?
Had a crazy dream that there was a in the closet π
Q6: Student voice is vital to the modern classroom. How will/have you incorporated it in your classroom? https://t.co/j2jIl2g04G
I understand. There is a cellphone block in our middle school. Many EDUs donβt understand the power of BYOD!
A5 Creating wonderful creative tech ideas are fun.
I seen teachers effectively use Peardeck and Kahoot as to tech ideas for demonstrating knowledge
I also don't answer all Ss questions. I tend to answer with a question - where could you find the answer?
A6: It's all about creating a safe, collaborative learning environment where student voice/opinions are respected & valued.
I love it! If you provide the time and space for innovation, high-tech or low-tech, students will benefit!
Love this Steph ! Connect with she's does amazing work with 6th graders!!

Not so much FOMO as fear of perception that I'm not keeping up or worse, not doing my job.
A5 don't crush the spirit of a child to creat! Give them choice & allow creative opportunities
A5: As an ELA Ts, I start with paper blogging and then move them to their digital blogs. Ss love seeing their writing online.

Listening& reflecting back what is said. Making/sharing connections to what others say. Being polite.
A6 Goal setting conferences, identifying strengths and areas of improvement, setting action steps to guide their learning
. I carry a book around with me, When I ask them "what are you playing" eventually they ask "what are you reading"
We constant ask our learners to step out of their comfort zone. We should be the models! https://t.co/GmtnHgxoo4
Teachers who say Iβm not good with tech shouldnβt complain when Ss say Iβm not good with books and paper.
A6 if Ts are a guide;Student led discussion/class help w/ the direction of inquiry & learning; Ss learn more when actively involved
I'm truly sorry if that's your culture. I think that's the sad truth of lots of places.
And incorporate formal opportunities for reflection and synthesis of ideas so a culture of collaboration exists
A6: From establishing expectations, to use, to collaboration, Ts need to involve S and hear their V and acknowledge their choices
A6: ask for feedback, ACTUALLY READ it and answer Ss concerns. They feel they have a voice then.

A6: provide Ss with multiple ways to show mastery. Don't limit how to do it! Ss need a voice and showing how is that voice!
A6: As former T of science, allowing student-chosen projects at end of each major unit of study. Crazy to manage but powerful!
A6: Ss have an impact on learning. They tell me topics they like/didn't like. I use that to fuel discussions later.
Parents could get involved here and would LOVE it. Solve a problem by Xmas etc.
A6: I encourage choice and allow students to defend their answers or arguments (no matter if it's bogus)!
Phones keep me afloat--we have a few classes w 1:1 but mine doesn't even have cart access. W phones, I can hang.
A6: It's about the learning, not about the teaching. Ss should have voice in what they read, what they learn, and how they show it
A6 S voice should lead learning. If Ss aren't interested, then they won't focus. Make all topics relevant and necessary for them.
I walk and see 100 adults playing Pokemon Go...

It's up to us to ask the right questions and listen.
Design intellectual spaces for learning - not coffee shops.
A6. I ensure that Ss have a variety of tools & strategies at their disposal to enact choice with. Ss share what they did & why.
A5 - we work w/our partners Last yr every student in grades 3-12 were asked for feedback on classes. 100% of parents
A6: We give Ss V&C, but if we do not follow through & work on their ideas, it is negating, Ss must be validated, so must Edtech use
I'm reading that book right now! So far, I'm really enjoying and learning a lot.
A6: Ask what do S's want the class to look, sound, feel like? Use to build a class vision, S's Ideas for SOP's, Give Me 5

A6: This starts with allowing S's voice in classroom norms. Respect, timeliness, collaboration, and respecting creativity of others
Awesome! I am thinking of creating an elective class at our HS based on the book!
Let the ss speak. Ts shouldn't be continuously looking for one answer, but encourage ss to become evaluators & lead w/ voice & mind
Right on! Ts should have Ss help them learn the tech while they help Ss learn the "book" stuff. https://t.co/cmXU2lHcwH
Teachers who say Iβm not good with tech shouldnβt complain when Ss say Iβm not good with books and paper.

A6: many Ss have to be convinced that you want them to control their learning. This takes time. And patience.
A6: Celebrate effort! It's not just the successes that enhance the learning, but the fails. Give kids safe place to fail
A6: Teach students the 'art' of asking authentic/meaningful/strategic questions to enhance their learning experience.
those are basic things for children to do. If they are not, we must ask why, no?
When I see admin & superintendents in it makes me happy! We need more leaders as examples.
Hahaha, I loved Dickens and Russian lit. Can I get some xanax, lol
Continue to have students have voice in how classroom is designed and redesigned especially with flex seating.
