#NHCSchat is a monthly twitter chat for, about and by educators in New Hanover County, North Carolina. #NHCSchat is an opportunity for teachers, administrators and other educators in southeastern NC to grow and develop their personal learning network (PLN) by connecting to other educators in our district and around the world. This monthly chat will create a forum for NHCS educators to gather virtually around the common interest of providing the best possible learning experience for students in our district. Chat topics will vary but will focus on best practices for teaching and learning in the digital age and will be moderated primarily by NHCS educators.
I'm Jeannie - a digital teaching & learning specialist with @NewHanoverCoSch My least favorite household chore is sweeping. With 3 kids and 2 dogs it always seems that as soon as I finish, I need to start again. Like shoveling the sidewalk in a blizzard. #itneverends#NHCSchat

A2: Collaboration with my job-alike peers. The best ideas come when like-minded people are in the same room sharing what they do. Esp for me when I work w/leads in other districts. #NHCSChat
A2: Over the summer; Collaborating with educators, sharing and building on innovative ideas/lessons/activities to bring back to the classroom ready to be implemented. #NHCSchat
A2: outside! Active, self paced, interactive. @NCAquariumFF sea turtle stem training with @Brittjacobs325 was a perfect self selected pd I was delighted to do on a Saturday! #nhcschat

A3: I frequently read educators' blogposts/websites and use that as a starting point and build to discuss ideas with other educators. Also look at Twitter, pinterests. #NHCSchat
A3: This year I've been so lucky to be invited to amazing PD's - @edtechteam Google Summit, NCTIES, @ECET2NC, Edcamp beach. I also learn a lot from my grade level team, twitter, and some of the amazing teachers in #NHCSchat !
Nothing feels better than seeing a Kindergarten student develop intrinsic motivation over time and watching them celebrate when they exceeded their goal! #SoaringEagles#nhcschat
A3: When seeking out professional learning, I often start on Twitter - but we'll talk about that a little later. I read often - blogs, books, and posts - and let my mind follow the tangents to explore the adjacent possible! #NHCSchat
A4: I have a few go-to's for each of the subjects I support. Any upper math stuff goes to @PamelaHighsmith or @sterkberg while I rely on friends like @MsWilliamsee for sci. Our #NHCSChat has connected me to tons of folks here!
A4: @aredd21 and I are hoping to connect educators throughout the county using our new podcast, @learnleadlisten! We are excited to start interviewing and learning from teacher leaders from @NewHanoverCoSch. #NHCSchat

A5: This year, we started a Mastermind. Because it included people in different roles in the district, it stretched my vision to include what others see, not just what I see, in the work that I do. #NHCSchat
A5: You can learn so much from people at other schools! Twitter is an easy place to collaborate outside our your school. @UNCWWatsonEd offers many opportunities for teachers to network and I've had opportunities through #NCTOYPOY#nhcschat

#nhcschat
A7: Allows me to learn creative ideas and build upon them, or have ideas I have built upon by other educators. Having a PLN also keeps me energized as an educator. #NHCSchat
Adult behavior matters. We must BE what we want our kids to BECOME. If we want children to take responsibility for their own actions, it's crucial that they see ADULTS doing the same.
A7: My PLN provides me with the mental and emotional support I need to be the best teacher I can in the classroom everyday. It's nice to have a network of people who understand what you are going through and can support you through it #nhcschat
Joining late tonight. Trevor Todd from Castle Hayne- 3rd grade teacher. A7: I love all the connections I have made all over the country and world on @Twitter. I have gotten so many great ideas that I have implemented in my classroom. #NHCSchat
A7 I think its a confidence boost to see others out there in the PLN that don't always go with the status quo - but what's best for students. Encouraging to keep doing my own thing.
#NHCSchat
A8: Collaborated with Ts in New England to build projects to implement in our own classes. Ss were able to share final products with one another via Skype. #NHCSchat
A7. My #HPUVI PLN has helped me to grow this year by gleaning ideas from leaders from across the state! My local PLN helps me to problem solve and implement district initiatives. #NHCSchat
A8: @maureenhill_ and I recently connected about using swivl to coach Ts. I was inspired by the work she's doing with coaches at her school which will help me in my role w/secondary Ts. #NHCSChat
A8: Being a connected educator helps me bring fresh ideas to those I support! Most recently, @jenniferlagarde and I embarked on a new adventure with the #bicoastalbookclub - connecting librarians in Washington with those in @NewHanoverCoSch so they can share wisdom! #NHCSchat

A8: I’ve been able to share a lesson I made recently to aid students with written comprehension skills. With that sharing experience, it has led to myself and @BHunt4thgrade looking to collaborate on a lesson or lessons in the future. #NHCSchat
A9: Professional Development/Learning is to teachers what school is for many students - “Bad PD is Sometimes Your Own Fault” by @shareskihttps://t.co/taZrLzfKaR#NHCSchat
A9: I love doing a mixture of flexible seating and small group. It allows time for communication, teamwork and collaboration in a comfortable setting. That’s exactly how I enjoy professional development opportunities. I ensure my students have opportunities for choice. #NHCSchat
A9. We’ve had several opportunities for cross grade level/Department PD this year to help us see the progression of curricula as well as instructional strategies and interventions- thanks @brandy_metzger & @amylindley78#NHCSchat
Q9: I love flexible seating in a classroom. This makes learning look different in my classroom. Students have control of their seating. I have some students that always want to be in their desks and some that are never in their “assigned” seat. #NHCSchat
A10: This summer, I hope to continue my personal and professional growth by attending @leadingschools, following the #notatiste hashtag, and maybe learning to surf with my daughter. #thatlastonetho#NHCSchat
A10: I’m interested in participating in a book study and I’m also collaborating with some colleagues to work on creating purposeful book buddies for the upcoming school year. #NHCSchat
A10. I am traveling abroad with students and participating in our #equity book study! I will also work at STEM summer camps. Check out STEAM Camp @ UNCW! #NHCSchat
A9: I'm a bit of an introvert, so I always try to make sure that my more introverted students get an option sometimes. I also try to share with my kids how working with others benefits me, even if it's uncomfortable sometimes #NHCSchat
So glad you could join us tonight. Be sure to join us on July 11th for the next #NHCSchat when we’ll be chatting about our opportunities to grow and transform learning! https://t.co/JMNEHujy1J
A9. We have also tried having Ts do some type of fun challenge before diving into serious content- it relaxes the brain and gets them ready for the tough stuff- This was our Face the Cookie challenge before digging into ELA standards! #NHCSchat

A9: I also got really lucky with my new #innovativeclassroom this year. I had a lot of input from my students on what they wanted, but it also gave me a chance to think about how I want learning to look in my classroom from the bottom up. #NHCSchat
