A1: Formative assessments help you catch confusion (or clarity) before the summative. You can adjust accordingly with the use of formative assessments. #fcsvanguard
A1: Formative assessments gives relevant real time information and direction. Verses summative assessments which only equate mastery level at the moment. #fcsvanguard
A1: Formatives are so important because they help inform instruction- they allow you as the teacher to personalize and meet the students where they are in the learning process. That's the fun stuff! #FCSVanguard

A2: I informally assessment students formatively probably every day. No need to spend lots of time on something everyone gets. Alternately, it's sometimes necessary to extend lessons if many struggle. #fcsvanguard
#fcsvanguard A1: formative assmt. can be a quick check ‘for’ learning such as Q & A, TOTD, Warm Up, whereas summative assmt. is a check ‘of’ learning such as a quiz or test.
A2: My classroom thrives on formative assessments as I only see my students once a week. It’s hard to get to that ending project without our mile markers that tell us where to move next. #fcsvanguard
A3- I do this more with my Q & A sessions because it allows me to dig deeper in students reasoning when they verbally respond. It allows me to question deeper and have students build on their knowledge to create more depth. #fcsvanguard
A1: Formative assessments can be a wide scope of things, they can vary in length, be innovative, quick to come up with and quick to use...they can give you fast feedback along with real-time daily use #fcsvanguard
A2: I use formative assessments in many ways from online platforms like https://t.co/VNJqBsQL5F or Jeopardy games to good old fashion checklists!📝 #fcsvanguard
A2: I like to use GoFormative as an entry and exit formative assmt. The entry consists of two review questions and one preview questions. The exit assmt. Consist of two questions of the day’s lesson and one review question. #fcsvanguard
Q2: Quick checks to gauge understanding, reflections to see how they feel about the learning and to access what they still need, I sometimes have the students create quick quizzes or mini assessments to see how they understand the content to redeliver in a new way #fcsvanguard
@MandyBe1l@FCSVanguard#fcsvanguard critical thinking can be used during formative assessment to evaluate where students are in the process or to help teachers figure out how to adjust the questions or activities they are using

A3: I like to incorporate real-world questions for students to solve. Watching students to apply what they have learned in a meaningful way is the real magic. #fcsvanguard
A4: Technology helps you make sense of the data you get from formative assessments. You can track progress, save assessments for later instead of hoarding bunches of paper that will eventually get thrown away... #fcsvanguard
A3: Critical thinking and making connections are KEY to real learning and application. Whether it’s part of a 3-2-1 Ticket out the Door, a verbal check in, etc. it’s those higher level questions that help me know where students REALLY are. #fcsvanguard
A4- technology plays a perfect role in assessments because it allows for fun and creative ways to engage students in assessment. Tech also allows for instant data available at your hands. #fcsvanguard
A1: I can't live without my formative assessments to help check for understanding, group students, and drive instruction. :) The work then supports the final summative assessment to get a clear picture of understanding/mastery. #fcsvanguard#fcsmusic
#fcsvanguard@FCSVanguard Q4: technology can aid in getting instant data to help guide instruction for the next day in a mini lesson or small group and/or to adjust independent work
Q3: A few years ago I was introduced to the 6 Thinking Hats and now I use them often for critical thinking because the types of ?’s you ask are associated to a certain hat and they help me understand a lot about what kids need support with and already understand #fcsvanguard
A1: Formative assessments help you catch confusion (or clarity) before the summative. You can adjust accordingly with the use of formative assessments. #fcsvanguard
A3: Questioning and applied critical thinking in assessments require S's to express a justification of their thought process. Opportunities to talk, draw and write about the questions are key! #fcsvanguard
A4: Technology allows me to gather and organize the test data and quickly plan my next lesson or activity. For students, technology is their generation. #fcsvanguard
This is something that my coachee @MsPopola and I were just talking about today! Bianca, you might want to follow this chat!!!! All formative assessments! :) #fcsvanguard
Q4: Just about any tech tool that can be used to gather data/feedback can be used as a formative assessment. I love @quizizz@GetKahoot@gimkit for gaming assessments and Google forms, @Flipgrid@nearpod@plickers for quick and interactive assessments #fcsvanguard
A2: I've seen some awesome ideas! Last year I saw an awesome lesson in @TownysTweeps@mathy_mccall class where they used the branching feature to help students start the at the station most appropriate for them. #mindblown#fcsvanguard

A2: This year, @whatSSupWBMS and @MsWatsonWBMS use Forms to provide "quickchecks" for their co-planning unit. Students take their formative when they feel ready and can check off all their "I Can" statements #fcsvanguard

A3: We have an assessment analyzer that helps us to ensure we have balance on our assessments with the right mix of DOK 1,2 ,3. Asking the right questions is key. Allowing students the opportunity to choose how they show their learning is HUGE. #choiceandvoice#fcsvanguard
A3: When students have to explain the how’s and whys or solve more than one step problems, that’s when you see if they truly understand or not. #fcsvanguard
Q7: The good old fashioned 👍🏾👎🏾, answer choice signs, 3-2-1 TOTD, turn & talk, think-pair-share. Lately I’ve been using this See, Think, Wonder protocol for critical thinking, it’s been really cool to see how Ss think about their thinking #fcsvanguard
Q7: lots of sticky note ticket out the doors, verbally asking students and listening to responses, watching them in pairs work on a problem, morning work questions in their journals #fcsvanguard
A5: There are so many great tools, and I am learning of a few more from all of you! I like @Seesaw as a center - students do not even realize they are being assessed when they complete an activity
Q6: Using results from @quizizz or a quick microsoft/google form to create groups or to help students decide where they should start on a playlist/choice board/ station. Love pulling small groups. Checking in with each student and reteaching/enriching as needed. #fcsvanguard
A7: I give students an index card with a orange dot on one side and green dot on the other. If they need help, the orange dot shows, if they understand, the green dot shows. Inspired by Brazilian steakhouse, sort of.
A8: I think it allows you to see where students are and adjust their learning or have them reflect and adjust which supports differentiation and personalizes learning as often as you need it to #fcsvanguard
A7: Think Pair Share Ticket our the door thimbs up thimbs down 5-4-3-2-1 etc very good ways to support a quick response and can give you the same data good to use multiple strategies #fcsvanguard
A8 students may spend less time on what they already know and more time gaining new understanding. They can balance more effectively what they NEED to know with what they WANT to investigate and apply more fully. #fcsvanguard

A8 you can meet the s’s where they are. Some may need more help on beginning concepts where others can delve deeper into theory and practical applications of content #fcsvanguard
A8: I have a friend who does a formative assessment before she does her lesson plans for a unit. I am always blown away by her plans and how detailed the differentiation/personalized learning strategies are noted in her plans

#fcsvanguard That's a wrap folks, thank you for all the great ideas! Y'all rock!! Just for fun, post a gif showing how excited you are for the 4-day President's day weekend, even if it is a whole week away!
Kind of struggling with @TweetDeck can’t figure how to tweet without having to enter the # each time. It doesn’t automatically appear when chatting #fcsvanguard
Q8: Formative assts most definitely allow for just in time direct instruction, demonstration of mastery/non mastery of content,
tiered instruction/assignments, shows readiness, varied strategies, choice/voice can be incorporated, they pretty much are the JAM👩🏽🏫! #fcsvanguard
A8: Personalized learning is rooted in formative assessments. The information provided by them allows for a plan to be made just for that learner. #fcsvanguard
