A1: I am going up to bed now to sketch-draft and then read AMERICAN STREET by Ibi Zoboi. Over the weekend I finished MRS. BIXBY'S LAST DAY and can't wait to share with students. Happy #titletalk!
#titletalk A1 Read Esperanza Rising over weekend in preparation for book clubs. Hoping to inspire a small group to consider reading during Guided Reading next month.
A1 I just finished listening to The Sheriff of Sixth Grade and after completing our Scholastic Book Fair will continue to promote @AlanGratz Refugee #titletalk

A1 Finished

A1: I'm so glad I sat down and committed to @themackenzilee's THE GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO VICE AND VIRTUE this weekend. It's not the type of teen novel I'd ordinarily pick up, but I'm so glad I did. Can't wait to share it with teen readers and teen librarians. #titletalk
A1: We have New Book Tuesday so I'll be sharing books kids ask me to booktalk, letting them lead the way to explore reading interests & share books they love #titletalk
A1: WRITING RADAR: USING YOUR JOURNAL TO SNOOP OUT AND CRAFT GREAT STORIES by Jack Gantos is excellent middle grade non-fiction. It's also great for writers of all ages! #titletalk
A2: We use Epic at time in my class for my students that like ebooks. I also pass out scholastic to get an idea of what is out there to read. #titletalk
A2: @pernilleripp and @MrSchuReads have never done wrong by me or my students with their suggestions. I also follow on twitter and other teachers blogs. #titletalk
A2 This platform is a gold mine for great titles. My local library has an awesome collection that is always being updated. I also bring my children into the book store often to see what they gravitate towards. #TitleTalk
Twitter has been such a game changer! I was convincing 2 of my educator friends to join this weekend, one did and already has a Skype session set up with @Jarrett_Lerner! #titletalk
A2: My biggest resource for finding books for kids? OTHER KIDS! :) If we create a reading community in our schools, the book buzz helps everyone find new reads! #titletalk
A2: @Fresno_State has a large collection of childrens/YA books in their @ArneNixonCenter that i have looked at a few times to find books for kids #titletalk
A2: The hastag #ncte17 last week made my 2018 to-be-read mountain grow exponentially.
I also love following classroom teachers on social media who share the books their students love. The kids know! #titletalk
Q2: I usually check out goodreads, or I reach out to my coworkers for any recommendations they might have! The librarians at my local public library are a WONDERFUL help as well! #titletalk#slis325
A2: I use Novelist, award lists, publisher lists that hit my email every day, and fellow readers like you all! My fellow librarians are my best source for books. #titletalk
I follow "sal's fiction addiction", she is a retired teacher from my city and posts daily. Does reviews for publishers. Awesome resource #sallybender#titletalk
A2: Scholastic, Twitter, people in my life, and the ridiculously long list of books that I have from past literature survey courses are helpful. Fortunately, my district's unit planning guides ALSO have great recommendations. Basically, anything I can get my hands on. #titletalk
A2 I find recommendations on blogs like Sharpread and Mr. Schu and others, through twitter chats like this and through websites like ALA and AASL. Reading and researching all the time #titletalk
A2 besides great blogs and twitter friends I find my students and teachers to be a great way to find new books. I just always keep my eyes open for what I see people reading. #titletalk
A2: I skim @sljournal, read the Indie Next lists, scroll through the recently ordered items at my library (@KCLS), take part in a library review group (@pscbooktweets), rely on tweets, and ask my STUDENTS :) #titletalk
A2 I have been inspired by Twitter and FB PLN's, use Scholastic Book Clubs to help hone the list, and keep my eyes peeled for recs from GL teachers in and out of district. #titletalk
A2: I read NYT Book Review, SLJ, Horn Book. I get lots of suggestions from folks I follow on Instagram, Goodreads, and Twitter. @MrSchuReads, in particular! #titletalk
A1 Forgot to mention Abby Cooper's Sticks & Stones and Bubbles as gems discovered during this holiday break. Will get a spotlight on Monday. #TitleTalk
A2: Twitter, NerdyBookClub, BookPage, #titletalk, Librarian friends, YALSA listserv, numerous blogs, yearly 'best of' lists, PLN, friends, family, students, too many to list here
A2: The @BNBuzz teen blog has really great suggestions for new books, also all the authors and educators I follow on @Twitter and @instagram +student suggestions #titletalk
#titletalk A2: I love the Mock Caldecott Awards my local reading council holds! Also Twitter is a great source for me...follow lots of publishers. Love @Candlewick !
Last spring, came across https://t.co/bC1weBuR2Y through the University of Arizona. Great resource for international & multicultural literature #titletalk
A2: Besides checking twitter and Goodreads, I like to get really nerdy by frequently checking my library’s recently purchased page to get ideas of what to read. #titletalk
A2 Nerdy Book Club, a variety of teachers, librarians, authors on Twitter, the new book display at the local library, students and teachers at school. #titletalk
A3: since im not teaching yet, i havent really thought about looking at these kinds of lists but some booktubers on youtube that i watch check these to decide what books to read and review #titletalk
A3: In the past I created a reading challenge for my 4th & 5th graders and picked books from WA state awards lists. I've also made lists published by libraries available to kids. #titletalk
A3: Use lists for Mock award experiences that build community, develop evaluation skills & give kids agency in determining their own winners #titletalk
I also follow @pernilleripp on Instagram. I must follow less people on Instagram because Pernille's feed always shows up with all her great book recommendations. #titletalk
A3: I mean, I feel like here’s nothing new under the sun, but I of course have students create their own best books lists, using the lists as mentor texts! They even collaborate to create master lists. #titletalk
A3 I find young readers are interested in book awards and lists if they have had the experience of Mock award - We do Mock Caldecott every year #titletalk
A3 I like to use best book lists to introduce books the students might not pick on their own and get them excited. It also builds school community what so many students are reading the same books. Love the discussions! #titletalk
Q2: when I need a children’s book with a certain genre or about a specific subject, I use Scholatics website. It is very user friendly & I can quickly find what I am looking for! #slis325#titletalk
During Skype visits, I love to ask the students about their favorite books and authors and share the books that I've been reading with them. #titletalk
A3: I tend to share the lists and let kids decide what they want to read. I also always let them know which ones appeal to me. They always know what I'm reading. #titletalk
#titletalk A3 I add them to a pinterest page called "2018 Newbery Watch". I also have a door that shows all the MG books I read this year. I have my students become knowledgeable about what people are saying are good books. We then watch the Newbery that is streaming.
A3: buy some from the list, read them and then book talk them up. I "raffle" off the books I book talk when I have students' interest piqued! #titletalk
A3: By giving them an opportunity to read critically from the list (& add if needed) and respond from their hearts and minds... helps them articulate the impact books have on them and find their critic voice #titletalk
A3: I am not sure about this, Anytime I mention that a book is an award winner it seems some just want to prove the award wrong. Looking forward to see what others say. #titletalk
A3: I have an award winning book tub for students to self select for private reading time. They just me to make them aware that a book can win an award and then they notice them right away "That's an award winner!" #titletalk
#titletalk A3 This is a new arena for me and an area for growth - I have l/y Newbery Award Poster up on wall highlighting books that are in our class library. Ss like to look at list to see how many they have read and set goals to read more.
A3 I like to use best book lists to introduce books the students might not pick on their own and get them excited. It also builds school community what so many students are reading the same books. Love the discussions! #titletalk
A3: I share Nerdies, Illinois Bluestem, Caudill, Newbery, etc. w/ the kids - tell them these lists are made by folks who <3 books, so they don’t ask me, “What book should I read?” Provides agency for them to build their reading lives!
#titletalk
A3: we use award lists to book talk and create TBR lists for us to read. My favorite thing to do after winter break is to share the Nerdies (we do pic books, graphic novels, poetry, and MG lit) and add to our TBR lists. #titletalk
A2 Use best book lists to help as we begin "Secret Laurel." Laurel is our school librarian. Ss will select books from the classroom collection to wrap & give to classmates for the next break. Based on peer recommendations, reading logs, & observation. Secret fun. #TitleTalk
A3: Love this question because it reminds us of the importance of teaching kids how to find books. Need to show Ss where to look so they can find books anytime & anywhere #titletalk
A3- I think it’s important to recognize when a read aloud book has been given an award, a brief mention followed by O’s and Ah’s then start the story, gives credit to exceptional work and inspires #edt5334#titletalk
A3: I like using best book lists and awards to get my kids buzzing about books. Then they know that the excitement isn’t just happening inside our classroom. It brings a larger reading community to their minds. #titletalk
A3 I try to assemble a mock Caldecott list based on recommendations from others and what I like. We have a March Madness type of tournament each year. We talk about end pages and covers as well. #titletalk
A3: I typically put together a display of award winners in my classroom for Ss to choose from so they can see that others value books as highly as I do. I often talk up the award lists as well. #titletalk
A3: Here in Missouri we have the Mark Twain Nominees. My students read and vote, if you read all of them you get to go the annual reward ceremony. #titletalk
#titletalk A3 My fourth and fifth grade book clubs are trying to read and guess which book might win the Newbery too. Super fun to pass around the new books.
You aren't alone. My Ss just created a pg for our schools Reading Ambassadors. Will be using it to post bk reviews. Wish my luck w/ navigating it, but then again the Ss know all abt it. #titletalk

@Czechgirl68, @KendraLimback, @colbysharp
A3/ I share book award lists with students and definitely mention if a book I'm sharing has won an award. But students choose what they're most interested in. This year we created our own book award with 6 nominees. It's generated more book interest than ever before #titletalk
A3 I am in the West and like to see the announcement in the morning and put the books out for the gr. 7 class to see when they come in. They love it, and they always ask, how I knew to do it. #titletalk
A3 Along withe the typical lists my school loved doing March Book Madness last year. Gave the kids a great reading boost during what can be a long section of the year with lots of testing. #titletalk

A3: I haven't done Mock Newbery, but I do get a set of books together for students to read and voice their thoughts about. Then we get to see if their choice won. #titletalk
A2: When I taught creative writing in a HS, I invited the school librarian into my classroom to booktalk new books she'd just gotten in the library, then we'd have free reading time to enjoy some of those books or ones we brought from home. Best time in the classroom! #titletalk
