Hey come join to talk about College & Career readiness
Join about College & Career Readiness. Who is with me?
Q1-K-12 education has lead to College then Career in the past. Why do you think we are shifting to College & Career?
A1: Not every student is intended for college and some of the best paid jobs in the 21st century world don't require college
A1-Changing times. Many careers don't require college degrees, but instead set of skills both technical & social.
A1 understand Ss can be successful in many fields-some need college some don't-need to give them options https://t.co/731REgxoHw
Q1-K-12 education has lead to College then Career in the past. Why do you think we are shifting to College & Career?
Q2-What changes have you seen in the system to prepare Ss to be College or Career ready?
A2: more schools are specializing in program areas, even the traditional comprehensive schools, and it's starting earlier too
A2 improve opportunities for for Ss-proud graduate of Vocational program 1st year in Nor. NV https://t.co/enBOpe00i5
Q2-What changes have you seen in the system to prepare Ss to be College or Career ready?
A2-The increased focus by admin & state legislatures to provide funding, support, and validation of College/Career.
agree-we have academy focus here in HS-help Ss find passions & develop skills to follow those https://t.co/XXt64gzdpe
A2: more schools are specializing in program areas, even the traditional comprehensive schools, and it's starting earlier too
. And I love the fact that middle and elementary schools are specializing as well
We traveled to Vegas for Skills comp my JR year- toured Vo-tech there-it was awesome https://t.co/e3jKLpvvKp
That's awesome. Back in my day it was called Vo-Tech. I took my first programming class there.
A2: PBL, technology, complex texts, metacognition.
More means Ss can build academic skills around solving real world problems https://t.co/nDDifa6Qr2
. And I love the fact that middle and elementary schools are specializing as well
A2 . An increase in states using common core.
Q3-Do you feel we should have specialized K-12 schools for College and others just for Career? Why or why not?
A3: you can have career & college school all in one, tech academies are a great example, but it can be done in comp schools
A3-Yes & No. If it makes sense to EVERYONE, then yes. Otherwise, my opinion is that both should be in all schools.
A3 think need 2 experience both-I choose career path but then later went back 2 college-knew I had options https://t.co/HUwFq6wqlt
Q3-Do you feel we should have specialized K-12 schools for College and others just for Career? Why or why not?
A3:Why divide? Many magnets successfully provide both.
A3 . No. There are not enough school buildings and teachers as.
agree-all Ss need to expereince both-who are we 2 decide what an 16 yr old will do 10 years later https://t.co/RmjRSjO0O7
A3-Yes & No. If it makes sense to EVERYONE, then yes. Otherwise, my opinion is that both should be in all schools.
sorry -gotta jump out early-have an amazing week
A4-Where is College & Career Readiness in K-12 the weakest & the strongest?
A3: plenty of people try one route and go the other years later, I happened to get lucky and I'm doing what I wanted to as a soph.
A4: I think it needs to happen right from kindergarten, teach those 21st Cen. skills early! High school tends to be strong
A4 cont.: high school may be too late for many students though, needs to be continuous throughout K-12
A4-Probably strongest in the 9-12, high school level and the weakest in the elementary grades. Tough sell @ lower grades.
A4:Strong:AP/IB/Dual Credit offerings+ CTE; Weak:equitable tech, electives.Some schools offer somethings others can't.
. at the lower grades is a tough sell, but still needs to be emphasized
Q5-What one suggestion would you give to someone opening a new school at any grade level about College & Career readiness?
A5-Involve the local business community for input on what should be "emphasized" not necessarily taught.
A5: provide options for all students, don't try to force any S into anything, but use the community to provide info
A5:Reading+Writing should occur across the curriculum. Inquiry belongs in every subject, learning should be hands on/relevant.
