A1: I was a 21 year old senior going back to my original college. Part of being readmitted I had to tutor at a half way program for teens. Completely changed my life and I knew I wanted to help change the lives of young people especially at risk youth.

A1: 3rd grade. My teacher was passionate about teaching & I wanted to be just like her. She would make extra copies of handouts and class activities just so I could take them home to play "school" w/ my dolls. She's the reason I'm a teacher today. #Masterychat
A1: I began to warm to education (schools) when I started studying child development at age 24. I began to look at schools with a blank slate. What if we could... I didn’t credential for another decade. First job was to start an inclusion school. #masterychat

Q1 I think we all could probably think of a moment when we knew, without a doubt, that we were in love with teaching. What was your moment? #masterychat#14DaysofTeachingLove
Can you believe it! The amount you learn is incredible. A few years teaching can actually be like decades of learning. What would you "redo?" #masterychat
A2: NO. I questioned if I could keep going. 1st yr was a yr round school so it was a long year. Glad I stayed with it and learned from my many mistakes. #masterychat
A2 I have never had doubts...just wanted to get better at the Art of Teaching. Fell in love with PD. Every year is a renewal of my vows with Teaching! #masterychat
A1: It really happened for me in 6th grade when I got to volunteer in the prek room during recess.

Lee Ann 4th grade T from Indiana. A1: I fell in love with teaching right away. Even during student teaching I loved my kids and the relationships I built with them. And I often fall back in love with teaching each time our class feels more like a family #MasteryChat
Q1 I think we all could probably think of a moment when we knew, without a doubt, that we were in love with teaching. What was your moment? #masterychat#14DaysofTeachingLove
A2: I got cut my first year of teaching. I was a new mother, a first year teacher, and we had moved 2 hours away from our families. I felt alone and worried that I wasn't good enough. I still loved teaching! #masterychat
A2 I was still in love with the kids but I was honestly horrified byt the politics of teaching that you don't know about until you're in it #masterychat
A1: The math professor at ISU reaffirmed my desire to teach math, and @RaeHughart actually inspired me as well. Whenever I hear her speak, I leave feeling refreshed and ready to make a difference. I aspire to be an educator like her one day. #masterychat
A2: The end of my first year was the first time the politics of teaching chipped away at my love. I still hold that experience so I do not fall down the same path. I never doubted my love of teaching but I did most certainly doubt others. #MasteryChat
A2 My answer to Q1 handles this pretty well! On the last day of school last year, I wasn't tired & I didn't feel a weight lifted off of me. I was excited & energized to get back to the drawing board & make this year the best year yet! #masterychat
Q1 I think we all could probably think of a moment when we knew, without a doubt, that we were in love with teaching. What was your moment? #masterychat#14DaysofTeachingLove
A2: I had a brutal first year with an admin that was more like a dictator. I had actually started to move home and get a different job. I just knew things could be better and teaching was what I was meant to do.
#masterychat
A2: I wouldn’t be human if I didn’t second guess my decision go leave the health field and follow my dream of becoming a teacher... but not a day goes by where I don’t find at leave one thing to love teaching #MasteryChat
I've definitely had to work on my relationship with teaching over the years. I've come to recognize those times of the year when it gets a little hard to remember what I love about this amazing profession #MasteryChat
Q1 I think we all could probably think of a moment when we knew, without a doubt, that we were in love with teaching. What was your moment? #masterychat#14DaysofTeachingLove
A2: The end of my first year was the first time the politics of teaching chipped away at my love. I still hold that experience so I do not fall down the same path. I never doubted my love of teaching but I did most certainly doubt others. #MasteryChat
A2- No! My first year was a mess! I had 30 students and 10 we're on IEPs and I felt like I was not prepared for anything. I felt like the admin that I had gave zero support. I learned a lot that year mostly from trial and error #masterychat
Not by a long shot! Any teacher that says that teaching is easy or even beautiful all the time does a disservice to those needing support. Teaching is hard but it's easier when you connect with other teachers. #MasteryChat
A2: My 1st year made me question teaching & I almost quit. It was ROUGH. I didn't think I could handle it all. Now - I'm grateful for that year - taught me SO much about myself - most of all - this is the only job for me! #masterychat
A2: At the end of year 1, I was still in love and exhausted! I had a great group of Ss in year 1 - some who I still remain in touch with 16 years later. Also had an amazing principal who made me want to be an administrator. #masterychat
A2: well, this IS my first year of teaching (unless you count subbing while I went back to college) and yes, I am often FULL of doubts. It has been a rough yr with a lot of T turnover and constant change, but I WON'T give up! #masterychat#determined
Q2: At the end of my first year, I was in love with teaching - BUT not with my school placement and the political climate of school-decisions #MasteryChat
A1. I was a stay at home mom and loved teaching my children. When I entered the workforce, I decided to try teaching, and went to work as an assistant at an alternative school. I loved helping the kids build confidence. That is when I fell in love with teaching. #masterychat
A2: I was hired mid-year last January so I officially finished my first year of teaching just a couple of weeks ago. I haven't had any doubts, and in fact, have loved every aspect of it. There's been more triumphs than failures. #Resiliancy is why. #masterychat
A1) NOPE!!! That’s one thing they don’t tell you in college, your first year will be the toughest! Year two I started off with a whole new playbook and I fell back in love #Masterychat
A2: I’m hoping I’m still in love come May. There are days I leave work wondering what I’m even doing and days where I leave with my heart overflowing. Still learning the self-care piece and still trying to be ok with taking baby steps. Struggling but learning. #masterychat
A2: Still loved it after 1st year, but definitely felt the wear and tear more than I thought. However I always have reflected back at how to make it better next year...even now as a principal #MasteryChat
A2: I was MORE in love with teaching at the end of my first year. The first year is a tremendous challenge. I had my fair share of struggles, but that inspired me to want to be even better - both for my students and for myself! #MasteryChat
A2 My first year was a challenge. But I was so excited to make the next year better. I took every PD I could and couldn’t wait to try new things. #masterychat
Doubts ... No. Frustrations... YES
I wanted to do more then I was able to accomplish and felt unsure about how to continue growing the following year. Nevertheless, I knew I LOVED Teaching without a doubt. #masterychat
A2 Jumping in late! Yes, because every year I tear up saying good bye to kiddos that have stolen my heart and I always truly believe it’s been the best year ever! #Masterychat
A2: My first year was one of my best years. Those Ss graduated this past year and I went in and surprised them before the graduation. We all lit up. It was great! I am blessed to love my career. #masterychat
A2: My first year I taught univariate statistic to a class of 40 or so undergrads at the University of Mississippi. It was terrifying. I hate math. But it was a gig that I needed and I was determined to make it as good of an experience as possible. #masterychat
A2 I was lucky: my first year I taught with a very experienced assistant and alongside five very experienced colleagues who gave generously of their resources and advice. I could focus on getting to know the students (and cutting stuff out of construction paper). #masterychat
A2: I honestly don't remember my 1st yr. However I must have still been in love. Teaching is all I have ever wanted to do and all I know. Cant imagine what elwse I woukd do with my life. #masterychat
That is such a hard realization that I think so many of us go through as teachers. The willingness to use it as a moment of clarity for you- to vow to never go down that path- is inspiring. #masterychat
A2: The end of my first year was the first time the politics of teaching chipped away at my love. I still hold that experience so I do not fall down the same path. I never doubted my love of teaching but I did most certainly doubt others. #MasteryChat
A2 At the end of my first year I was still VERY much in love, but I had started in January and only done a half year so I'm not sure it counts. By the end of my first full year... NOPE! I was tired, stressed, and overwhelmed! #MasteryChat
A2 I had a very difficult first year. Almost quit twice during my first year. I loved teaching, I did not love my experience. I have grown a lot since. I am glad people made me stay. It isn't always easy the first year in, people need to know. #masterychat
A2: As a pre-service teacher student teaching, I have had doubts about whether or not I am on the right path, but I also know that I am passionate about teaching. My students, along with my amazing CT @MACKENZ1E_M, solidify my desire to teach. #masterychat
A2 At the end, yes. It wasn’t so much a lack of love for teaching as it was a belief that I had to survive the first year. I still loved it, it just kicked my behind #theteachersjourney#masterychat
Oh gosh no. I was ready to quit 😂 I’ve never been so tired and overwhelmed but everyone said the first year is the hardest. My second and on were much better and I got a better principal 👌🏼
A2: Still loved it after 1st year, but definitely felt the wear and tear more than I thought. However I always have reflected back at how to make it better next year...even now as a principal #MasteryChat
A2 The bloom was off the rose, but I was determined to learn as much as I could over the summer because I found out I was teaching a new course. I wanted to do well & teach well, but there was definitely some stress, esp. when I found out I would be in 5 classrooms! #masterychat
A2: Yes, I handed out 6 diplomas and knew I had made a difference. I learned a lot about myself that yr and knew I was hooked. Everything seemed to just feel natural and I wanted the chance to change lives every year.
#Masterychat
A2: I was inspired at the end of my first year of teaching: I thought I'd be a master teacher and have it all figured out by second year. So the end of my second year ended up being kinda rough . . . #masterychat
A2 I was still in love! Lucky to work at a great school with a supportive staff, a team that made sure I found answers to my questions, a principal that believed in me (LOL and talked me into 4th grade) and a class of students that I LOVE and keep tabs on today. #MasteryChat
A2: I freely admit that my students got cheated out of a quality education with me right out of college. I couldn’t wait to try again and have gone back and apologized to many of those “kids” #MasteryChat
A2: I freely admit that my students got cheated out of a quality education with me right out of college. I couldn’t wait to try again and have gone back and apologized to many of those “kids” #MasteryChat
A2: My first year teaching I was hired & then told, by the way your class is the most challenging in the building. My love for teaching remained after that year because I had an opportunity to change the stories behind those challenges. Making a difference everyday! #masterychat
A2: Yes and no. I left because of personal reasons and I went to work in a lab. I still had the “need” to make a difference and help people. I’ve always believed that teaching is a calling and so I left the lab in ‘95 to answer the call. Haven’t looked back!!❤️ #MasteryChat
A2: I wouldn’t be human if I didn’t second guess my decision after that first year to leave the health field and become a teacher... but not a day goes by where I don’t find at least one thing to love about teaching #MasteryChat
A2: My doubts came at the very beginning of my second year teaching, it was my first year at a new school, I was away from most of my family (except my wife who I had just married), and I kept questioning myself. By the end of the year, mentors helped build me up! #masterychat
A2: I survived those first years by having students reflect and reflecting myself. Those end of year surveys we give students can tell us a lot we can improve, but also that we're making more of an impact than we sometimes realize. #MasteryChat
A2: I had an awesome first year. Welcoming faculty who are like my family, students who were eager to learn, and high energy and passion for my content. I still feel the same way every September. #MasteryChat
I’m a ball coach but an educator of young minds in the same, so I’m thinkin I’m in on this #MasteryChat
Phil Archuleta Special education gifted in Albuquerque, New Mexico at your service!
A2: My ed prepared me to meet the academic needs of Ss, but not the depth of emotion & personal challenge I would experience in learning the stories & trauma of my Ss. I maintained passion, but needed to learn more about how to balance care for Ss & self. #Masterychat
We all had our share of "not so awesome" lessons. Its the reflection and growth that can really say something about an educator. Its tough to implement best practice right out of school! It takes guts to dive in #masterychat

A2 I was simply trying to survive and had little idea of what I was doing the first year. It’s important to remember this when working with young teachers today. #MasteryChat
A2: I loved my first year, but as a Special Ed teacher, I could clearly see the stress of paperwork. I didn’t doubt my career choice, but I struggled with time management as the job felt all-consuming! #MasteryChat
Woody - I had a huge crush on Lee Majors!! You’ll find him in the oldies, like The Big Valley and the Six Million Dollar Man!! What a cutie! And we allllll had a crush on Davy Jones!! #masterychat
A2: I was definitely in love with teaching after my first year. To be honest, I was feeling myself. Thought I was so grown up. Real job. Important job. Went home happy everyday feeling I was making my parents proud. #masterychat
A2: Teaching is my second career and my first year teaching high school consisted of many sleepless nights and hectic days, but once I shifted my focus to kids first and not trying to check every box, I love my days learning with kids. #MasteryChat
A2: I was still completely in love at the end of my first year. I loved working with 'my' ss and seeing how much they had grown! Plus I found out I got to keep them another year as I was moved up to 5th with them. #masterychat
Oh gosh no. I was ready to quit 😂 I’ve never been so tired and overwhelmed but everyone said the first year is the hardest. My second and on were much better and I got a better principal 👌🏼
A2: My first year as a teacher, I had my mom as my ace in the hole. She was a District specialist (different city though) and all I had to do was pick up the phone to get expert advice. I wish all new teachers had that! #masterychat
A2: My 1st year was brutal- I remember being close to tears quite often- and then reading somewhere that if you forced yourself to smile you would eventually start to feel happy- I tried it a few times and it actually worked- I would just end up laughing- I survived! #MasteryChat
Q3 Oh, February. Somehow it is the longest month as a teacher even though it is the shortest month of the year! How do you feel about teaching right now? This very moment? Give us a 1-10 rating and tell us why! #MasteryChat
Late is just fine by us! Glad to have you here.
It is amazing the capacity of the heart to love- parents experience when they have a second child and are amazed at how much their love multiplies. Teachers experience it every year. Every day. Love is endless. #Masterychat
A2:first year was intense but I knew I was in the right place. I learned a lot about who I was and who I wanted to become thanks to my Ss that 1st year #Masterychat
Wow, so lucky. Usually the first year is a struggle, but it helps to have a supportive network of colleagues - like the one I've found at my school and Twitter #MasteryChat
Q3 Oh, February. Somehow it is the longest month as a teacher even though it is the shortest month of the year! How do you feel about teaching right now? This very moment? Give us a 1-10 rating and tell us why! #MasteryChat
A2: My first year of teaching was tough. I was lateral entry, and teaching in a modified program for at risk students. They were reading well below grade level and this was when they had to pass the EOC in the 9th grade. I was exhausted & frustrated, but determined. #masterychat
A2: To be honest, after my first year of teaching I knew I wanted to be a principal. I knew I wanted to lead my whole school, not just my class. #masterychat
Q3 Oh, February. Somehow it is the longest month as a teacher even though it is the shortest month of the year! How do you feel about teaching right now? This very moment? Give us a 1-10 rating and tell us why! #MasteryChat
a1 #masterychat My journey started as an aide, my mate said, "better become a teacher, you are totally running the class anyway" She called it and I still love it. #14DaysofTeachingLove
A3: I have to be honest and say I'm right up there at a 10. I look forward to each day and hope I can help others to love the day enough to not watch the clock a well.
#masterychat
I enjoy May and June so much as a teacher. Not because it is summer break and I get some time off, but because i can regroup, reenergize, and get geared up for the start of another great year! #Masterychat
I'm at a 7. I love teaching and my students, but I do hate how the focus outside of my room starts to pivot to state testing that happens in May/June. #MasteryChat
Q2: After the 1st year I was still in love with teaching because of the leadership at the school. My principal John Howard was a strong & inspiring leader who believed in me & valued my voice. Even though I lacked expertise he made me feel like I had so much to offer #MasteryChat
A3: Saying 3 is being kind. I am tired, not feeling well and I have had some issues with disagreements in how I teach with my team. It has been bringing me down. #masterychat
I wish I figured out a lot sooner that the most, most, MOST important thing is to connect with students. NOTHING else is possible without it #relationships#MasteryChat
A3: Today I am a 10. It was glorious. Yesterday..Different story. February is long for me but it is just as long for my students. I try to focus on the good days especially on the bad ones. 10 today and maybe not tomorrow but 10 today. #MasteryChat
Q3 Oh, February. Somehow it is the longest month as a teacher even though it is the shortest month of the year! How do you feel about teaching right now? This very moment? Give us a 1-10 rating and tell us why! #MasteryChat
A2: I was fortunate that my first year of teaching was relatively easy. That was before “accountability” and CCSS. My mentor teacher said all you need to do is love them” #masterychat
A3: I feel like I am at a 9. I did a fraction escape room with my students due to wanting to increase engagement, and I loved the excitement that my students had. I also had my second observation which went well overall. #masterychat
I think the year is going great. I really love my kids this year. I teach middles. We are working on getting ready for next year so the excitement is still there! #masterychat
Q3 Oh, February. Somehow it is the longest month as a teacher even though it is the shortest month of the year! How do you feel about teaching right now? This very moment? Give us a 1-10 rating and tell us why! #MasteryChat
A3: Umm probably 9 or 10 in terms of how I love the profession. I feel like I am learning and doing a lot of new, exciting, engaging things. My students seem to be having fun in class, and I get to share and reflect with so many teachers on Twitter. #masterychat
A2.2 Awesome and heartening to hear other people’s first year struggles and having them match my current experience. It can feel lonely in that classroom. Twitter chats are helpful to remind myself that I am not. #masterychat
A3: A solid 8! We’re writing story stories in class this week after studying theme, and a student said to me, “I’m so happy that I get to put how I feel out on paper and know you won’t judge me... if you can read it.” Her handwriting is terrible, but she’s so sweet! #MasteryChat
A2.1 a student teacher asked me when I felt like I had teaching figured out. I told her in year 15, or so, I started to feel pretty good about my skills but never have ever felt like there wasn’t something I should be doing better - this is year 20 #MasteryChat
A3: I am always in love with teaching! The only time that I feel bitter about my job is during standardized testing window. Only because my students should not be measured by a multiple choice assessment! #masterychat
A3... 6. Struggling with 5th gr social issues which are wearing on me, but happy to have supportive colleagues and admin that make me still live my job. #masterychat
A3: Still love what I do each day. I always think about how lucky I am to work with my awesome teachers and students in my building. We have the best job in the world. #MasteryChat
A3: February can be hard - we are all itching for spring. I like to remind Ts that the hardest part of the year (Dec/Jan) is over and we on our way back up. I truly believe these phases exist not just for new Ts, but for all educators. #masterychat
A3 it’s tough right now- but as bad as we’re feeling it, it’s worse for the kids. They worse they get, the better we need to be. I may be feeling a 6 but I’m gonna be a 10 every day! #masterychat
A3: 10!!! I love my new school and the children and the teachers and the staff and the admin and the families and the resource officer.....#masterychat
A3 This very moment is a 10 b/c I am with my Twitter PLN and feeling super energized and excited. When I am actually at school lately I waver between a 4 & a 5. There are a lot stressors going on in our district- none of which have to do w/actually teaching students! #MasteryChat
It shouldn’t be just 1, and it shouldn’t be luck or blessing. Every teacher should always have good mentors throughout their career #masterychat#theteachersjourney
I entered in a big turn over year. A bunch of new teachers, admins, and staff members who instantly connected. Veteran teachers took us in and mentored us as well. We became a big support system and kept morale high. #MasteryChat
A3 I'm honestly an 8 because I love teaching my Economics & Personal Finance classes in the spring and I am excited to coach track this spring as well. The added responsibility is slightly tempering my fire but not by much! Bring it on! #masterychat
A3: Honestly, this year I am feeling better that I usually am at this time of year. I had a successful first semester, and accomplished some new goals. #masterychat
Feeling the opposing pull of that love of teaching and frustration with the school setting is stressful. It is part of the reason why education loses so many good teachers every year! #Masterychat
Q2: At the end of my first year, I was in love with teaching - BUT not with my school placement and the political climate of school-decisions #MasteryChat
#masterychat A2 First year I taught students barely older than me, no teacher’s manuals and shared space with another teacher. What a learning experience for me. #betterforit
A3: I’m sitting right around 8 or 9. I have really got into a good routine with my students. They’re working hard and we’re going to keep it up! #MasteryChat
A3: 10! My hair is on fire as an administrator because graduation is coming quickly, Air scores are coming out at the end of the month, and we are planning for alternative pathway for graduation. Seniors are coming out of their fog and reality is starting to set in.
#masterychat
A3: Honestly, 10. I am teaching tech this year. We've built websites, Google Slide animations, Google drawings, Google Earth, Created banners and GIFs, I've built a new school website, I have presented three times at conferences. It's been a good year!! #masterychat
A3 Today? Maybe 4 or 5. Sick for almost 3 weeks, voice gone for a week, cough, cough, cough. It's temporary, and I've survived worse, but I want more energy to give to my Ss! #masterychat
A2b: years later, I’m still in love with my profession because every year I know I made a difference and made an impact that just might be lasting. #masterychat
A3: I'm not going to lie, the past 2 weeks have been a 1-2 😭
Ss namecalling, being disrespectful to adults and each other, fights breaking out... we always have a little drama due to the socioeconomic status of our Ss but this past 2wks have been EXTRA BAD! #masterychat
Q3 Oh, February. Somehow it is the longest month as a teacher even though it is the shortest month of the year! How do you feel about teaching right now? This very moment? Give us a 1-10 rating and tell us why! #MasteryChat
A3. I am having a blast this February. You need to find the right things to motivate you! I have surrounded myself with amazing educators who not only push me, but inspire me. They make this February awesome. Great things coming! #masterychat
Q3 Oh, February. Somehow it is the longest month as a teacher even though it is the shortest month of the year! How do you feel about teaching right now? This very moment? Give us a 1-10 rating and tell us why! #MasteryChat
That first year is so full of ups and downs- sky high with excitement and then crashing to the ground. Again. And again. And again!
Hang in there! You have a whole Twitterverse at your side to help you through! #Masterychat
A3: 2 ratings: 1st 9/10 - I love my class and what we are making and learning 2nd 3/10 my Gov is trying to break our Teaching Union and is really dumping on the profession :/ #masterychat
A3: I have to be honest and say I'm right up there at a 10. I look forward to each day and hope I can help others to love the day enough to not watch the clock a well.
#masterychat
A3. I’m going to say 10 but that being said some of that is experience. I know feb can be hard on T’s & s’s. I work hard to make things extra engaging for kids and their excitement keeps me engaged as well! #masterychat
A3: Right now, I would say I'm at a 5. There's days I feel like I know exactly what I'm doing, and then there's days that I feel like I'm failing more than I am thriving. #MasteryChat
Q3 Oh, February. Somehow it is the longest month as a teacher even though it is the shortest month of the year! How do you feel about teaching right now? This very moment? Give us a 1-10 rating and tell us why! #MasteryChat
A3) 10, because even though this is a grueling long month, I still get the chance to make a difference in kids lives. I get to help them grow all around everyday and that fires me up!! #Masterychat
A3: 10. I have an INCREDIBLE group of PSTs right now. I feed off of their passion & I KNOW they care so so much about their Ss & practice. They give me tremendous hope for the future of the profession & I know their Ss will benefit from their passion for teaching. #Masterychat
A3: A solid 8! We’re writing short stories in class this week after studying theme, and a student said to me, “I’m so happy that I get to put how I feel out on paper and know you won’t judge me... if you can read it.” Her handwriting is terrible, but she’s so sweet! #MasteryChat
A1 first teaching gig was in church weekday school! - not mom’s day out - a real curriculum kinda gig! I had 3 and 4 year olds- it was a blast! And I taught them a lot- proved to me it could be done !! Loved it! #masterychat
A3) 10! Report cards are almost done, kids are settling in well. I am able to put new things I learn on Twitter weekly. I have made lots of new connections. Oh yea, I was told that I inspired @melanie_korach !!! #masterychat
A3 I’m tired. I’ve got a mountain of grading, and like six kids came to class without their planners today. I’m sick of pointless meetings and telling kids to open their notebooks. And still, 10. I’m 10 in love with teaching.
#masterychat
A3- I'm at a solid 6 I'm pretty sure in the past 2 weeks I have had a good cry almost daily. The stress level is high with this one! On top of all of the "normal" teacher stuff, we are also doing a literacy initiative and gifted classes. #masterychat
A3: I am a 7 at this very moment, only because I am entering scores into the computer for progress reports. By tomorrow morning when I see my kiddos, I will be back to a 10! #MasteryChat
A3: A 10!! I’ve shifted to a HS ELA Reading-Writing workshop model and love seeing my kids reading and being able to conference and chat with each of them. Best choice I made - for my Honors students, my students with IEPs, all of them—and for me! #masterychat
Q3 Oh, February. Somehow it is the longest month as a teacher even though it is the shortest month of the year! How do you feel about teaching right now? This very moment? Give us a 1-10 rating and tell us why! #MasteryChat
I know the chat is almost over, but I'm popping in from Texas. Jessica here. My first love was Scott Baio! I wanted Charles in Charge of me! #Masterychat
A3 About a 7. I love what I am doing with my kids right now and I love coaching and I love being asked to do so much to help other teachers who want to grow, but I'm tired and tbh stretched a little thin. I've got to remember self-care! #masterychat
A3: I’m not in the classroom anymore so my number is based on how in live I am with what I do right now as the tech coordinator. 10! Growing my Twitter PLN, participating in chats and challenges, blogging, and going to edcamps have me on fire again!! #MasteryChat
It is a lot - I find starting the day with a note of gratitude to someone really helps. It can be a S, T, colleague or parent. Hang in there! #masterychat
A3: 10! I went to Orton-Gillingham training back in Sept. I started implementing the strategies right away & seeing growth from students in ways I have never aeen before. Help my orincipal to make tthe decision to send our entire K-3 staff. #masterychat
A3: 10. I have an INCREDIBLE group of PSTs right now. I feed off of their passion & I KNOW they care so so much about their Ss & practice. They give me tremendous hope for the future of the profession & I know their Ss will benefit from their passion for teaching. #Masterychat
A2: I was MORE in love with teaching at the end of my first year. The first year is a tremendous challenge. I had my fair share of struggles, but that inspired me to want to be even better - both for my students and for myself! #MasteryChat
A3: I still love it!! I had the Guest Teacher from you-know-where today. When my para called me and told me what happened, I went ballistic!! I hate being away from my kiddos! Drs. orders. 24 hours off my bum knee... #masterychat
A3 I’m tired. I’ve got a mountain of grading, and like six kids came to class without their planners today. I’m sick of pointless meetings and telling kids to open their notebooks. And still, 10. I’m 10 in love with teaching.
#masterychat
The optimist in me says, "You can only go up from here!"
The realist in me says, "You need a shoulder to cry on because it sucks? I've got your back!"
#Masterychat
A3: 9-10! Everything we play right now is in varying degrees of terrible! It is the glorious sounds of learning! Every day we try to turn down the suck and turn up the good! #MasteryChat
A3: 11 out of 10. I absolutely LOVE my job and what I do. Am I perfect at it? No. Do I fail? Daily. Is there resilience and I bounce back? Every time. #MasteryChat
Q3 Oh, February. Somehow it is the longest month as a teacher even though it is the shortest month of the year! How do you feel about teaching right now? This very moment? Give us a 1-10 rating and tell us why! #MasteryChat
A3: 6.5. I was hired mid-year and my first priority was building classroom culture and structure. I think I did a great job at getting that process going, and now that the focus is shifting to the actual teaching I’m starting to feel lost and unengaging. #masterychat
Q4 Things aren't all roses and walks in the park as an educator right now. In fact, many teachers are calling it quits and ending the relationship with the careers they chose. Why do YOU think this is happening? #MasteryChat
A3 January to March is actually one of my favorite times of the year. It’s so easy to hit a rythm, people are still willing to test new things, If anything, it’s when my kids and I can really deepen outlet connections #masterychat
Gosh, the flu has been a real issue in our district for sure! #VA It’s tough to get into any routine with kids and teachers out sick so often. #MasteryChat
A3 p2: my school is moving to standards based education and some of the great people here are helping me out with that. So great to be supported by my PLN!!!! #masterychat
A3 I’m on a 10 or 13 cuz I’m deep into some greatness happening with collaboration partners from down the road a piece to Massachusetts to South Africa!! Collaboration is key !!! #masterychat
A3: I am no longer assigned to a classroom, but I have the privilege of supporting teachers and helping them stay motivated to do this important work.
#MasteryChat
A3: I’m at a 6 right now. Since I’ve moved out of the classroom, it has really changed the interactions I have with the students. Add to it that we serve a challenging demographic, the result is spring break is looking mighty enticing at the moment. #masterychat
A2: I didn't feel cut out for teaching after my first year. They chewed me up. I questioned myself for years, and feared that I had damaged those babies for life. I was in love with the profession still, but I felt less than capable. #masterychat
A3: Varies by the day for me right now. I haven't been back from maternity leave for very long so I am having to reestablish relationships and routines with my kids. Some days are amazing, and some are more challenging! #MasteryChat
I think it happens because of helicopter parents, admin who don't back you up, and the overwhelming amount of work that isn't related to teaching. #MasteryChat
Q4 Things aren't all roses and walks in the park as an educator right now. In fact, many teachers are calling it quits and ending the relationship with the careers they chose. Why do YOU think this is happening? #MasteryChat
A3: Honestly, I am at about a 4 at the moment because I am NOT getting to teach. It is IEP & SST season. I am swamped with paperwork and missing time with my kiddos to sit in meetings. It is necessary, but I miss my kids. #masterychat
Q3 Oh, February. Somehow it is the longest month as a teacher even though it is the shortest month of the year! How do you feel about teaching right now? This very moment? Give us a 1-10 rating and tell us why! #MasteryChat

Counting the number of healthy days in the last two months on one hand is not my idea of a good time. I'm with you!
One thing that stands out for me is, "I've survived worse." As Kelly Clarkson tells us, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!" #Masterychat
Professional development needs to be about way more that sit-and-get. We need to work on connecting teachers, creating communities of educators to support and learn from each other #MasteryChat

Q3 Oh, February. Somehow it is the longest month as a teacher even though it is the shortest month of the year! How do you feel about teaching right now? This very moment? Give us a 1-10 rating and tell us why! #MasteryChat
A3: I am in love with teaching because of Twitter as well. I get to connect with so many incredible teachers, and I am lucky to have grown my PLN as a pre-service teacher. #masterychat
A3: My love for teaching is still at a 10, but it is easy to lose sight of it amidst the exhaustion. On days where it really weighs on me, I can always count on my Ss to remind me why I love this job. I try not to let one rough day outweigh a lifetime of passion. #MasteryChat
A3: I just finished my 2nd masters degree, this one in educational leadership. I passed my exams, and now I’m certified up to district leadership. I forgot what it was like to not have to do grad work. This is a pretty good month this time around. #MasteryChat
A4) lack of support from community outside building and unfortunately a lack of support inside. If it weren’t for my amazing crew I work with, it’s be hard because I’d be in my classroom alone all the time. That’s now how it should be #Masterychat
A3: I was just discussing this with a colleague today. On the scale I'm a 10, I love teaching! While we have many obstacles in front of us this year, at the end of the day being there for the Ss far outweighs the things that can bring us down. #kidsdeserveit#MasteryChat
Q3 Oh, February. Somehow it is the longest month as a teacher even though it is the shortest month of the year! How do you feel about teaching right now? This very moment? Give us a 1-10 rating and tell us why! #MasteryChat
A4: Mindset. Unwilling. Fear. Uncomfortable. We instill into our Ss the power of determination and grit... why are some educators choosing not to mirror this and take the escape route?
#masterychat
Q4 Things aren't all roses and walks in the park as an educator right now. In fact, many teachers are calling it quits and ending the relationship with the careers they chose. Why do YOU think this is happening? #MasteryChat
#masterychat a2 I am my own worst enemy in the relationship with teaching. I would arrive at 6am and finish at 9pm, 7 days a week. Loved teaching but I needed to learn that breaks from it, leave room for other relationships.
Tiffany - I am so sorry to hear this, but I love your ending thought... "I miss my kids." You got it girl! Your priorities are in the right spot! Keep up the good work and get back to those kidos! #masterychat
That's awesome! Love having your energy to add to our conversation and reassure those of us NOT at 10 that is it possible!
Also, I'm a little jealous of you getting to teach tech exclusively! Such a fun subject for students AND their teacher!
#Masterychat
A4: I think some people see the financial benefits of a private sector job and sometimes we as teachers have A LOT on our plate (okay most of the time) so it is a high stress job, we are dealing with the future of humanity every day in our room, it can be tough! #masterychat
That’s not a 280 answer 😃 more like a book. HA! I think it starts with experience in pre service, learning to learn on your own, to find and identify mentors, to be reflective, all while navigating the social political landscape of school #masterychat#theteachersjourney
A4: Lack of parent support, unmanageable class sizes, low pay, burnout... the list goes on. But like with ANYTHING new, IT 👏🏼TAKES 👏🏼TIME👏🏼TO 👏🏼ADJUST. #MasteryChat
A4: I think teachers are quitting because of stress and minimal support. I know that Twitter is a lifejacket keeping me from drowning. My PLN is incredible, and I am excited to see what my future holds. I never feel alone and always feel supported. #masterychat
A4: Its hard and demanding. There is not always a lot of love from admin, regional staff, parents or public. Fighting for students takes lots of energy, and its hard if Ss are not succeeding as much as you hope #masterychat
Q3: I have to say that after reading The Energy Bus @JonGordon11 I have re-energized & passionately moved out of my comfort zone to take more risks. My students have embraced weekly starfish challenges & we have embarked on a journey of growth that has inspired me! #MasteryChat
Professional development needs to be about way more that sit-and-get. We need to work on connecting teachers, creating communities of educators to support and learn from each other #MasteryChat
Q4 Things aren't all roses and walks in the park as an educator right now. In fact, many teachers are calling it quits and ending the relationship with the careers they chose. Why do YOU think this is happening? #MasteryChat
A4: I think educators are leaving because it's a lot of pressure, and the standards are not getting easier. If educators aren't taught how to adequately cope with the stress, they pop under the pressure. #masterychat
A4: There are so many things that can be frustrating. Lack of support, the politics, all of the extras - sometimes it can feel like you're barely able to accomplish much. #masterychat
A4: Great question! Teaching is difficult! Teaching is exhausting! Media and government berate the profession! It’s an amalgamof things that make for poor morale. We must recruit and support the new and eager to come and stay in the profession. #worthit#MasteryChat
A4: I don't know. I worked retail management. My worst day teaching is still better than that retail schedule. I have learned to count my blessings. #NameThemOneByOne#masterychat
So many warm fuzzies right now because of this comment! A PLN that supports, encourages, pushes, and inspires is just what the doctor ordered for the month of February! (And every month as far as that goes...) #Masterychat
Sure - this is true. However, we also want to allow educators to grow and learn rather then tred-water and not give the best they can to their students. Where is the balance? #masterychat
In reply to
@TrapperTeacher, @btcostello05, @ShawnPeck6
A4 too full a plate and too much paperwork is usually what I hear as concerns. But I think, like with anything, positivity matters. Find a way to see the good in others, the need in kids, and passion to serve and add them up to find your place !! #masterychat
A4 I fear T disillusionment is becoming more and more prevalent. It is almost as if huge swaths of education are experiencing existential despair about their careers. When it feels like your best isn't good enough and it's never going to get better. #MasteryChat
Q3 Oh, February. Somehow it is the longest month as a teacher even though it is the shortest month of the year! How do you feel about teaching right now? This very moment? Give us a 1-10 rating and tell us why! #MasteryChat
Honestly, I don't feel like the newbies are getting the right kind/amount of support. Plus kids are just different than when I started teaching 33 years ago. They come to us with a lot more baggage. I don't feel like the newer Ts are prepared for how to handle that.#masterychat
It was pretty hard, every time I looped saying goodbye was brutal. The last time I did it was worst because I had been through so much emotionally w/ my class. We’d been through All the Things #masterychat
A4 teaching can be a challenge, lots of responsibilities, testing periods, sometimes the behaviors and disrespect can really wear you down, it is very rewarding but you have to keep at it and push through any challenges #masterychat
A4- because they are not prepared to deal with some of the behaviors and management parts of teaching. There are so many of my students who are experiencing extreme trauma that I myself struggle with, because I don't know how to best help them through their hardships #MasteryChat
A4 We unfortunately see it at schools all over; lack of support, or at least the feeling of a lack of support. Initiatives getting forced into classrooms with less-than-great training. Ts have it tough. Takes a special person. #masterychat
Q4 Things aren't all roses and walks in the park as an educator right now. In fact, many teachers are calling it quits and ending the relationship with the careers they chose. Why do YOU think this is happening? #MasteryChat
A4) I think a lot of teachers think it will be like it was for them. We have great educators in these chats, but we need to get those on here that do not want to learn anymore. Did I type that with a straight face? A lack of support from the top down. #masterychat
A4 demonization of the profession...being blamed for every societal issue...and lack of freedom to do what they know is right for kids and forced to focus on things they know are not right for kids #masterychat
A4. Too many teachers being saddled with too many responsbilities and not enough support, encouragement, and training. I think a lot of new Ts also feel the pressure from parents who are usually great, but not always patient and understanding. #MasteryChat
Q4 Things aren't all roses and walks in the park as an educator right now. In fact, many teachers are calling it quits and ending the relationship with the careers they chose. Why do YOU think this is happening? #MasteryChat
A4: I think teaching is way harder than most universities realize. New teachers get overwhelmed by the expectations we have to get on board with district philosophies while developing their craft too #MasteryChat
A3 Right now an 8. I have had a few difficult years, where I felt I couldn’t do anything right. This year there have been a lot of changes at my school, and I am starting to feel more confident in my craft again #masterychat
Q3 Oh, February. Somehow it is the longest month as a teacher even though it is the shortest month of the year! How do you feel about teaching right now? This very moment? Give us a 1-10 rating and tell us why! #MasteryChat
A3: right now, I am actually at an eight, which is rare for me this time of year. I attribute this to the fact that I’ve kept up an exercise routine, for once, and been so focused on choice reading with my students. They’ve read this just in the 1st week of Feb! #masterychat
A4: I believe several factors are at play (politics, deskilling of Ts, lack of autonomy, inequities in classrooms, etc.). But, I feel too often our focus on caring for our Ss causes a lack of self care essential to teaching. Self care is not selfish. It is necessary. #Masterychat
A4 I was going to be one of those teachers a year ago. Lack of autonomy, lack of respect, and feeling like you are unable to make a difference no matter what you try. It almost made me leave the profession #masterychat
A4 I usually don't like focusing on negatives but it's naive to think they're not there; lack of support from admin & parents, lack of professional development opportunities, low pay, isolation from others etc #masterychat
A4:lack of support, never ending testing, jumping through endless hoops to prove your a professional, policy makers who have no clue about the profession making laws impacting edu.
#masterychat
A4: Teachers might leave the profession if they don't feel they make a difference or don't feel they're part of a community. But teaching is also hard work, and some people who leave may be shocked by the workload of teaching. #masterychat
5th graders in the spring are like middle schoolers stuck in a child's body. They don't know up from down, left from right, and are just beginning to realize they have no idea who they are and how they define themselves! Hang in there! #Masterychat
Q3 Oh, February. Somehow it is the longest month as a teacher even though it is the shortest month of the year! How do you feel about teaching right now? This very moment? Give us a 1-10 rating and tell us why! #MasteryChat
A1: I fell in love with teaching before I became a teacher. It was the kids I fell in love with, and I wanted to reach them. Teaching was the bonus! #masterychat
A4 I'm in a great school where we're encouraged to try new ways to empower Ss and teach the whole child, but there are still state/district mandates that loom large, while trying to find time to innovate. #masterychat
Easy to forget this! I'm reading When by @DanielPink and he speaks about the importance of going for walks, taking breaks and getting away from it all. #masterychat
A4 Teaching is not always easy! There is often lack of support, lack of understanding. We need to build teachers up, support them and celebrate them! We need to lead with heart! Protect those who are destined to help learning! #masterychat
Q4 Things aren't all roses and walks in the park as an educator right now. In fact, many teachers are calling it quits and ending the relationship with the careers they chose. Why do YOU think this is happening? #MasteryChat
A4: A gift and a curse of the education is that it is ever-changing. That can be justifiably overwhelming for veterans; that leads to people walking away. Passion is a key component of effective teaching and that can be hard to maintain among all the catalysts. #MasteryChat
A2.1 a student teacher asked me when I felt like I had teaching figured out. I told her in year 15, or so, I started to feel pretty good about my skills but never have ever felt like there wasn’t something I should be doing better - this is year 20 #MasteryChat
A4: There are a number of reasons why teacher's jump ship. In my experience we lose teachers at our school because their WHY for teaching is not aligned to our school mission or they don't pace themselves and eventually burnout. https://t.co/3ecGLqRhof#MasteryChat
Absolutely! Change your mindset and focus on the positive. The days might be terrible but the kids can always make it better. I always look for a kid who'll make me laugh. Gets me outta my funk. #MasteryChat
A4 too full a plate and too much paperwork is usually what I hear as concerns. But I think, like with anything, positivity matters. Find a way to see the good in others, the need in kids, and passion to serve and add them up to find your place !! #masterychat
#A4: I think teachers are feeling the pressure of students, parents, admin, classroom management, and teaching for the tests. We’re being asked to do more with less! #MasteryChat
#MasteryChat A4 Teacher leave because they feel unsupported, inadequate, overworked or under appreciated. The big question is what can administrators do to help teachers through these struggles?
Q4: I believe many new teachers feel isolated & there is a stigma involved in coming forward to ask for help & admit to feeling overwhelmed. All teachers need to reach out with intention to offer support & a listening ear to those who are new to the profession! #MasteryChat
A4: Lack of support and appreciation. Perception is a person’s reality so even if they’re being supported, if they don’t believe it’s genuine, they become disenchanted with the profession. We’re all human #MasteryChat
You are not alone! Year 8 did that to me believe it or not, but I have since relearned how to view myself as an educator and grown so much, as I am sure you have. #masterychat
I'm trying to create collaboration between grade levels (difficult with each grade level on diff schedules), peer tutoring & having 8th graders come teach my Ss! @megan_hacholski#masterychat
The difference is not struggling to Great, it’s more moving past the star where we flounder, thrash, and struggle to stay afloat to a place where we can start getting better #MasteryChat
I was extremely fortunate, as I'm sure you're students are as well, to have had immensely supportive college education profs who prepared me to take care of myself as well as my students #masterychat
Q4 Things aren't all roses and walks in the park as an educator right now. In fact, many teachers are calling it quits and ending the relationship with the careers they chose. Why do YOU think this is happening? #MasteryChat
A4: From a secondary perspective, I wonder how many teachers thought it was about content 1st and just liked kids, rather than a passion to empower & support Ss first. Our focus on well-being and post-secondary life is stronger & more central than it used to be. #masterychat
Q4 Things aren't all roses and walks in the park as an educator right now. In fact, many teachers are calling it quits and ending the relationship with the careers they chose. Why do YOU think this is happening? #MasteryChat
A4: the culture has changed so much in the past 40 years (I'm 42 yrs old) - when I was a kid parents always took T side, believed T, supported T having best interest of Ss. Now teachers are berated, insulted, and not respected by Parents and Ss #masterychat
Q4 Things aren't all roses and walks in the park as an educator right now. In fact, many teachers are calling it quits and ending the relationship with the careers they chose. Why do YOU think this is happening? #MasteryChat
Devils advocate: is it the schools responsibility to provide PD before new teachers start or do we need stronger pre-service teaching programs to alleviate this? #masterychat
In reply to
@btcostello05, @TrapperTeacher, @RaeHughart, @ShawnPeck6
I love your "Relevant" Focus with Choice! Teachers need Differentiation just like our students! #masterychat
I love doing PD with @thegridmethod system. Everyone gets what they need and everyone leaves better educated & supported
A4: Discourage: : to deprive of courage or confidence : dishearten was discouraged by repeated failure. Encourage: to inspire with courage, spirit, or hope : hearten. The opportunities to have your courage stolen are many. #masterychat
You are 100% not alone! Sometimes we can feel like a little island alone when we are in a classroom with just us and our students. You DO have a tribe of people ready and eager to step in and help build you up any time you need it! #Masterychat
A2.2 Awesome and heartening to hear other people’s first year struggles and having them match my current experience. It can feel lonely in that classroom. Twitter chats are helpful to remind myself that I am not. #masterychat
A4 I think a lot of it has to do with culture. With many of the pressures on schools, intentionally maintaining a focus on culture is so important to keep ts feeling encouraged, and appreciated! #masterychat
There are many things that can be done, but the #1 way to help teachers with the difficult task of teaching is to connect them with other teachers. I'm convinces this would have a massive impact. #MasteryChat
A2: Weirdly enough, my first year of teaching was AMAZINGG!! For a first year, it could not have gone better. Classroom management, data, coworkers, the stars aligned! Thankful for my foundation that has given me confidence. 😍😊💗 #MasteryChat
A3. 9/10 with teaching. Maybe not so much with my current situation. It's an interesting situation to navigate. My heart is in it for the Ss!
Love watching them learn, grow, create! #MasteryChat
Q3 Oh, February. Somehow it is the longest month as a teacher even though it is the shortest month of the year! How do you feel about teaching right now? This very moment? Give us a 1-10 rating and tell us why! #MasteryChat
A4 I know many who have left recently. Most would says that support is the biggest issue. The demands in Ed have increased exponentially and public opinion seems to be very low. #masterychat
Q4 Things aren't all roses and walks in the park as an educator right now. In fact, many teachers are calling it quits and ending the relationship with the careers they chose. Why do YOU think this is happening? #MasteryChat
A4 Of course teachers leave. It’s incredibly hard to do this job well. Meanwhile, we’re undervalued, our schools are underresourced, and our students are underestimated.
#masterychat
#MasteryChat A4 Teacher leave because they feel unsupported, inadequate, overworked or under appreciated. The big question is what can administrators do to help teachers through these struggles?
A4: There is the theory of teaching presented in university studies, and the challenging reality of real teaching. Those who negotiate a balance they can live with stay, and those who don’t usually leave. #masterychat
Q4: I believe many new teachers feel isolated & there is a stigma involved in coming forward to ask for help & admit to feeling overwhelmed. All teachers need to reach out with intention to offer support & a listening ear to those who are new to the profession! #MasteryChat
A4: A feeling of a lack of support from all areas, parents, admin, district, state. Feeling like we are being asked to do things we know aren’t in the best interest of Ss. (Teaching to the test, demanding mastery of developmentally inappropriate tasks, etc.)#masterychat
A4p2: I think that since I knew this coming into this gig as a 2nd (or 3rd) career, I was more prepared for this shift in culture and therefor am more determined to stick it out for the kids #masterychat
Q4 Things aren't all roses and walks in the park as an educator right now. In fact, many teachers are calling it quits and ending the relationship with the careers they chose. Why do YOU think this is happening? #MasteryChat
Both? New teachers need more support, “mentor” programs and how we do mentoring in education is a train wreck. It would help if New teachers had enough time in the classroom and enough people supporting them to know what they need and who they are as a teacher #masterychat
In reply to
@iMrsHughes, @TrapperTeacher, @RaeHughart, @ShawnPeck6
A5: Right now or this month? SELF CARE. I will advocate for self care until I’m blue in the face. How can you ask your Ss for their best if they don’t see you at yours?? When Ss see you happy and in love with what you’re doing, they’ll for that love back to you #MasteryChat
Here's the thing about this administration, they suck up all the oxygen in the proverbial room. That Quincy Jones interview should've been front page news EVERYWHERE, now, 24 hrs later I can't remember what he said. #informationoverload#24hournewscycle
A5 I am a believer in the power of belief. Just as Ss live up to the expectations we set for them, our experiences live up to the way we think about them. We can't always change what happens -to- us as Ts. What we can ALWAYS change is the way we choose to react. #MasteryChat
A4: it is a demanding profession. It’s unfortunate that one can expect tears. When you are responsible for so much, it can be overwhelming. Confidence, resiliency, and grit can get you thru the tough times. Need a big support system! #masterychat
Q4 Things aren't all roses and walks in the park as an educator right now. In fact, many teachers are calling it quits and ending the relationship with the careers they chose. Why do YOU think this is happening? #MasteryChat
Q4. I think it has a lot to do with what seems to be unattainable expectations and demands from the state and/or districts. I think teachers get overwhelmed and exhausted trying to keep up with work and having a personal life. It’s tough to find balance. #masterychat
Q4 Things aren't all roses and walks in the park as an educator right now. In fact, many teachers are calling it quits and ending the relationship with the careers they chose. Why do YOU think this is happening? #MasteryChat
A4: I think that politics and educational policy makers do not always include/consult real educators when making decisions. It is hard to be invested in something when you don't feel valued. The needs of the child and teacher should always be considered first. #MasteryChat
Q4 Things aren't all roses and walks in the park as an educator right now. In fact, many teachers are calling it quits and ending the relationship with the careers they chose. Why do YOU think this is happening? #MasteryChat
I would like some #SummerSchool for new teachers. Veteran teachers can come in and earn some extra money over the summer while helping out a new teacher. #WinWin#MasteryChat
In reply to
@iMrsHughes, @btcostello05, @RaeHughart, @ShawnPeck6
All true. So why are we still here? If we could connect teachers with each other, more of us could explore that and ways to make it better #MasteryChat
We must differentiate as we do for students - not all departments or teachers need the same thing. Allowing space to discuss theory/pedagogy (ex assessment practices) rather than forcing a new directive and expecting compliance without discussion #masterychat
A4: They feel unsupported and often are. Many teachers are overworked and underappreciated. Challenging ss, co-workers, administrators, or parents can make teachers feel incapable. #masterychat
Q4 Things aren't all roses and walks in the park as an educator right now. In fact, many teachers are calling it quits and ending the relationship with the careers they chose. Why do YOU think this is happening? #MasteryChat
A4: I think most people become teachers because they want to make a difference. Sometimes we don't see the results of our efforts for some time. This can be frustrating, compounded with isolation, lack of support, and work bleeding into family time. #masterychat
A5: if you don't do classroom meetings/circles, start doing it!!! 10 mins, you'll fall in love with your kids, and fall back in love with teaching...I guarantee!! #masterychat
A3: 10 our of 10. I’m lookin forward to tests coming up and keep myself motivated with fresh goals each week. The ideas just won’t stop flowing 🌈🤗💗 #MasteryChat
Q5 There is only one person in this world who is always capable of making a change in your life. You. Let's flip the negative to the positive and figure out how we can fall in love again and keep the love strong!
A4 I think teachers are asked to do more now than ever before and do so largely in isolation. We need to make sure everyone knows they are appreciated, how vital their role is, and make sure they feel connected with others. #masterychat
All of the above. Better teacher preparation, but districts need quality induction programs to prepare teachers for the culture of the district in which they work. #mentors#MasteryChat

A4: I am lucky to be supported, and my CT actually is on this Twitter chat right now (@MACKENZ1E_M) which is amazing. I think more CTs should be on Twitter because it makes such a difference. #masterychat
From my perspective, some teachers are leaving the career because they are under payed, underappreciated, and look at teaching as a job and not as a passion.#masterychat
A4: the ldrship and expectations make all the difference. Our p is always supportive of new T, careful not to overload, and builds in support. Our hallway is made up of T who support each other. I compare it to some T friend’s locations & realize we are so lucky #MasteryChat
A4: the culture has changed so much in the past 40 years (I'm 42 yrs old) - when I was a kid parents always took T side, believed T, supported T having best interest of Ss. Now teachers are berated, insulted, and not respected by Parents and Ss #masterychat

A4 catch-up. I think it's because of the greater demands put on teachers while the support is waning. I've also seen so many teachers walk away because they weren't being treated with respect. #masteryChat
Q5 There is only one person in this world who is always capable of making a change in your life. You. Let's flip the negative to the positive and figure out how we can fall in love again and keep the love strong!
A5: When something makes me sad/frustrated in the profession, I pause, reflect and remember that at the end of the day I teach kids. I have the opportunity to change the world by impacting the hearts and minds of my students. It is an honor! #masterychat
A5: This chat is a fantastic step! Its so easy to get dragged into a negative echo chamber. Instead, talk to others about your passion. Find an affirming, supportive PLN that you can gush about teaching with. Then push each other to get EVEN better; foster that love! #MasteryChat
YES! This!! It’s not like we all haven’t been there, be vocal if you need help! Also, veteran teachers, you’ve been there and know when someone’s struggling... help even when they don’t ask for it! #MasteryChat
That is my fear. This also, I think leads to an unwillingness to embrace technology, different methods, or revision assessment practices. If content trumps the students, students can’t achieve meaningful, authentic success #masterychat#kidsdeserveit
A5: Surround yourself with your #PLN. Believe in yourself, your students, and your learning community. Reflect on success and iterate failures.
#masterychat
A5 I have been reading #tlap and participating in online PD from @BuildMathMinds. That led me to the @Seesaw community and now Twitter. I love seeing how excited other Ts are. The collaboration and community online is amazing #masterychat
Q5 There is only one person in this world who is always capable of making a change in your life. You. Let's flip the negative to the positive and figure out how we can fall in love again and keep the love strong!
A4 ~ Not enough support & unrealistic expectations! It is difficult & Ss don’t always learn the way we learn. Many of the Ts I know were excellent Ss & some have difficulty relating to the ‘struggling / lazy’ Ss in their classrooms! #masterychat
Q5 There is only one person in this world who is always capable of making a change in your life. You. Let's flip the negative to the positive and figure out how we can fall in love again and keep the love strong!
A5 Rekindle that passion. Take a few minutes, disconnect from everything, and remember WHY you started teaching, and WHY you're still teaching. Find that WHY, ignite that PASSION again. #masterychat
A5: Read a good book about teaching, talk with a teacher who is happy and in love with teaching, get on Twitter and look at all the amazing things teachers/kids are doing. I am working on keeping my kids excited! #MasteryChat
A5 It is all about connections. We need to make sure that teachers are connected, that we celebrate them, that we build them up. We need to share kindness and happiness and make teachers feel on top of the world. #masterychat
Q5 There is only one person in this world who is always capable of making a change in your life. You. Let's flip the negative to the positive and figure out how we can fall in love again and keep the love strong!
A5: Remember what brought you to teaching. Reflect & write it down. Then, keep it close. Take time for yourself. Keep note of the small moments thaf make it so meaningful. #Masterychat
A5: Be a progressional teacher. Strive to cross the line of "just getting by" to thriving. A life long learner isn't a catch phrase that's being tossed around in education. Our world & Ss are changing with or without us. Embrace the new & welcome change willingly. #MasteryChat
Q5 There is only one person in this world who is always capable of making a change in your life. You. Let's flip the negative to the positive and figure out how we can fall in love again and keep the love strong!
A4: In Michigan, a seven year period of disinvestment and political persecution of the profession, and districts that do little to nothing to support young teachers in a meaningful way. Many teachers went five or more years with decreases or freezes in take home pay.
#masterychat
A5 I fall in love and out of love all the time...another faculty meeting that should have been an email-out...then S comes in and ‘gets it’ right back in... #masterychat
A5: this is why I love @JoyKirr’s #shiftthis so much. Little shifts are manageable and can make BIG, wonderful change that inspire and motivates #MasteryChat
A5: Easy...make sure teachers know they aren’t alone, there are cleaagues in building, district, and now an amazing world of online teachers to add to their PLN #MasteryChat

A5 Have short term memory. If Ss disappointed you, lesson didn't go well, etc. you need to go into next day acting as if that didn't happen. Be open to chances of Ss rising to occasion, lightbulbs turning on, excitement being back in the class #masterychat
A5 this recently happened to me, but over a few snow days I reminded myself that I'm there for my students. Regardless of the pressures put on me outside, the people inside my room depend on me to support, teach, love, and provide a safe place for them. #MasteryChat
A4: When I first wanted to be a teacher, I thought I would be planning lessons and building relationships with students. The reality- that’s only part of it. We have so many other responsibilities that you don’t realize until you’re living it. #masterychathttps://t.co/ZOALMx5TWa
A6: I lean pretty heavy on my PLN's there are so many great people out there who help keep me sane! And I always say find that 1 student who keeps you going. The kid who is interesting, who needs help, who inspires you. They keep you going. #masterychat
A5: Love the great moments! Its the simple little things - as simple as my struggling S making it through a problem solo. Love it. That's why I teach. Remember that you can't do it all all the time. #masterychat
Certainly something to celebrate when you see (or get to be a part of) a culture that is WORKING! I think some teachers just get through the tough days and years, not realizing that it really can be a completely different situation. We have to fight for it! #Masterychat
a2 my first year was quite isolated :( Our school was in reno and I was in a hallway by myself and my team was in portables. I think I cried and laughed everyday. It was a roller coaster year full of ups, downs and unexpected turns, but I jumped back on the ride. #Masterychat
A5: I didn't jump into my love with teaching overnight. There are times I feel so exhausted, my love for it can't be seen. Reflecting and connecting have been big keys in helping me stay in love with this amazing call. #masterychat
A5: it’s important to have fun. We are working with kids after all! Don’t take everything too seriously. Do your best. Be open to change. Stay in the moment. It’s a great profession. #masterychat
A4: Managing student behaviors can be exhausting and cause teachers to leave the profession. I have been told I have good classroom management, but it takes a lot of my emotional and physical energy everyday. #masterychat
Q6 Let's spread the love! Who needs a lifeline in your education community? What is their struggle and what are YOU going to do to help them feel the love? #MasteryChat
A5:focus on the kids. They need us to guide them and facilitate learning. And remember why you wanted to be in education to star with. Focus on the “why” #MasteryChat
A5- have those awesome relationships with students. The other day, I had a really bad day and was at the point of crying and my students surrounded me and hugged me, wished me well, you lifted me up. They are awesome and what it's all for! #MasteryChat
Thank you! It always breaks my heart when I see them in the hall and they say they miss me (because I was in a meeting), but once I make through next week I will get to spend all my time with them again! #masterychat

A4: I can think of a million reasons why this is occurring. It all boils down to the fact that they simply don’t know how great teaching can be. The pros outweigh the cons when you are truly passionate and have a strong sense of WHY. #MasteryChat
How can we help make those administrator-teacher bonds stronger? It can be such a powerful relationship when it is going well and such a complete energy drain when it isn't. How do you keep it positive in your school? #Masterychat
A5: I didn't jump into my love with teaching overnight. There are times I feel so exhausted, my love for it can't be seen. Reflecting and connecting have been big keys in helping me stay in love with this amazing call. #masterychat

Q5 There is only one person in this world who is always capable of making a change in your life. You. Let's flip the negative to the positive and figure out how we can fall in love again and keep the love strong!
A5: When that Ss walks by in the hall & holds up a hand for a "high five", do it. During intervention, when a Ss finally gets it, make it a huge deal. Also take care of your administration, office staff, and custodians. They are the MVPs. @tonyashelton94#tellPatti#masterychat
A6: Remind them that change in our schools are implemented in an effort to create the least restrictive environment for our Ss. Celebrate victories with them, and help them push forward after a defeat. #masterychat
Q6 Let's spread the love! Who needs a lifeline in your education community? What is their struggle and what are YOU going to do to help them feel the love? #MasteryChat
A5: Tomorrow I’m taking a PD day to sit down with each of my kids one-on-one with no strings attached. They can talk to me about whatever they want to. Building those relationships and building excitement for the rest of the year. #masterychat
#masterychat a4The old #philosophy that people don't leave companies, they DO leave bad managers holds true for me. I've worked in tough schools but I loved the prin and believed in them. We have to look after our people better.
Q6 Let's spread the love! Who needs a lifeline in your education community? What is their struggle and what are YOU going to do to help them feel the love? #MasteryChat
I think you need to find their strengths and celebrate them in a nonweird way. Or simply ask what you can help them with! Sometimes teachers just need a pop and chocolate too! #MasteryChat
Q6 Let's spread the love! Who needs a lifeline in your education community? What is their struggle and what are YOU going to do to help them feel the love? #MasteryChat
A6: I have a colleague who continues to have more and more put on her plate. I want to try to help carry some of that load because I am currently in a "lighter" season and am in a position where I can/want to help! #masterychat
A5 Two things: Laughing with my Ss and collaborating with people who have my best interests at heart. So blessed to have a team who wants me to be the best I can be. For the kids. #masterychat
A5: I may get a bit frustrated, but always in 💖 with my work and S. I reflect on the day and what changes I need to make. Tomorrow is a new day and something good will haopen. #masterychat
I’m at a 10! I left the classroom to become a CRS a few years ago, but I started missing being a teacher so much! Last year, I returned to the classroom as a 4th grade teacher, and I’m in heaven!!! It isn’t always easy but nothing truly great is. Teaching is my jam!!!!
A6: Right now, every little thing happening at work or at home is the end of the world for them, and I can’t offer any advice. Just listening to them and letting them get what they’re feeling out can be enough #MasteryChat
A5: Get back to your roots. Do something that brought you joy previously. Keep the big picture in mind. Focus on the good you do. It matters. Then find time for yourself outside of work. Recharge. #masterychat
A6: I have a colleague who has been dealing with a lot. I try my hardest to be extra kind to her and let her know that I am always willing to provide support. I have been told that I am good at knowing when people need some encouragement. #masterychat
Q6 Let's spread the love! Who needs a lifeline in your education community? What is their struggle and what are YOU going to do to help them feel the love? #MasteryChat
A6: I make it a point to seek teachers out when I happen to see something worth noting; it's crazy how a simple compliment in the hallway can make someone's day; there's really not enough of that!!! #masterychat
Q6 Let's spread the love! Who needs a lifeline in your education community? What is their struggle and what are YOU going to do to help them feel the love? #MasteryChat
Add in things that make you happy to your classroom!!! I love music and anything fun and quirky! We are playing music for everything in my room! Makes the day fun #masterychat

There’s a lot to a school landscape from the routines and procedures to the politics (yes all schools have a political landscape) none of which you see as an outsider unless you really understand them #masterychat

A5: To fall back in love with teaching, I read books by @burgessdave publishing and read encouraging emails/ notes from colleagues/ former teachers/ students. I also go on Twitter which refreshes me and makes me feel supported. #masterychat
A2: I still loved teaching but wasn't good at it yet. Layoffs/new assignments in first years b4 I could dig in and start to figure out how good teaching looks for me. Fell back in love with it years 4-6 and now in year 10 rejuvenated and constantly trying to improve!
#masterychat
How can we help make those administrator-teacher bonds stronger? It can be such a powerful relationship when it is going well and such a complete energy drain when it isn't. How do you keep it positive in your school? #Masterychat
There is a Light at the end of the tunnel!
Not to mention the students lives you are changing by sitting in IEP meetings. I was an IEP Student and without those teacher cheerleaders, I dont know where I would be #masterychat
Just go back to why you do it and be intentional everyday. I know I’m doing the best I can with what I have & know. It’s about the kids. I’m there to teach them but also be a person who makes a positive impact whether that’s academically or life in general. #masterychat

A6: I often tell teachers that I am available anytime they need me, any day. I hope this translates to I've got your back anytime. I plan to help a colleague having surgery soon stay in contact with classes and teach throughout!
#masterychat
Also, connecting with other positive educators like you brilliant folks on #masterychat and other Twitter chats saved me from the mid-career slump 2 year ago #masterychat#lovemypln#aplitchat

The one thing that always helps me when I'm feeling negative about teaching is interacting with my students - their insight and endless capacity for wonder and kindness remind me why I've done this for 20 year #MasteryChat

A5: when I get really frustrated/negative, I try to spend one day during the weekend completely not thinking about it (usually beg hubby to take me to Disney World). Between that & the sweet hugs & high5s from some of my Ss, positive is always greater than negative #masterychat
Q5 There is only one person in this world who is always capable of making a change in your life. You. Let's flip the negative to the positive and figure out how we can fall in love again and keep the love strong!
My administrator is amazing! But I have also had less than amazing admins. The biggest difference is that she really listens, offers encouragement, and is constantly showing appreciation for us as teachers. #masterychat
A6 I work with a T who just seems always stressed out. She is really a great T- amazing in math- but she always seems just on the edge of losing it. I am going to go out of my way to smile at her and engage in conversation. Maybe invite her to lunch! #MasteryChat
A6 I honestly can't really think of one person right now. We have a new teacher in our dept. and I've been working with him every chance I get, but he's pretty darn solid already! #masterychat
A6 Be their hype person in the building! Talk about how awesome their lessons & activities are to both Ts & Ss in the building; energy is infectious and soon they will begin to see the value in their own work! When they have fun, the Ss have fun! #masterychat
I’m a dean of students & Eng teacher, poet & lax coach at 100% boarding school outside DC. In Hs my best friend stole my crush’s jacket, dropped it in my lap so I had to return it. Did. Then married her. #masterychat
A6: Listen to them without judgement. Offer to help them if possible. Do something nice for them! I had a coworker once who picked some flowers from her garden and left them in a little mason jar on my desk with a note. It brightened my day to know someone cared. #MasteryChat
A6 drop of a chocolate, a coffee, and sit and listen. Venting can be therapeutic. Acknowledge struggles but don’t fall down the rabbit hole. Diminishing feelings can make it worse... #masterychat
A5: I had a student give me a sticky note yesterday that said inspire. She said I inspire her to be kind and to be a more patient person. It made my day! <3 #masterychat
A6: We all have those moments. As an admin, I try to offer support with Ss challenges, offer a listening ear, a hug, moral support. I’m fortunate that a have a great team and I know they would do the same for me! #masterychat
I listen, make myself available. Give trust and work to gain trust. If someone chooses me as a mentor that is their choice. I make myself available to give back to the profession that has given me so much #masterychat
A6: I have a friend who is becoming disenchanted with teaching. I listen, I support, and I share. We’ve ALL had times where we needed a lifeline - I share my past struggles. Even the best teachers have rough patches; doesn’t change the fact that they are fantastic! #MasteryChat
A5 I try to remember why I became a teacher. I didn’t become a teacher for the politics, hours, or money. I became a teacher for my students. I became a teacher bc I might be the one to encourages someone who didn’t think much of themselves and turn out to be great #Masterychat

A6: I think we all struggle at times. It can be a smile or taking a minute to give a shout out the awesome job they are doing, that can bring a person up. appreciation and support can be given in so many ways. #MasteryChat
Q6 Let's spread the love! Who needs a lifeline in your education community? What is their struggle and what are YOU going to do to help them feel the love? #MasteryChat
When we think about building our colleagues up, it is the same way we build students up! Putting some energy into relationship building with other teachers has massive impact! #Masterychat
A6: it’s important to celebrate the good stuff.! We always look at what areas we need to improve on or didn’t master. Let’s look at how many questions the got right, not wrong. #MasteryChat
A6- my favorite thing is our graffiti wall (of post its) where we share reasons why we would want staff members to be with us during the zombie apocalypse. It's a silly way to tell others about their awesome quirks. We have fun with it! Our admins idea that I love #MasteryChat
A6: We all need ‘a person’. I keep this person’s favorite candy hidden in my office. I’ll pas by the room unannounced and drop off the candy or place in mailbox for surprise treats. We’ve been friend for a long time so I can sense when a pick me up is in order #MasteryChat
Love the idea of adding music to add fun to learning-- I first assumed you were an elementary teacher, then saw you teach middle school. Inspiring! #masterychat

That's so wonderful!!! I save any positive student notes I get and keep them in a drawer for those tough times when I'm trying to remind myself how much I love this job #MasteryChat
A6: my school as a whole is in a major funk. I'm going to make it a point over the next week to leave a sticky note of encouragement on everyone's car so when they leave for the day it will be on a good note. #masterychat
A6 opening your doors to sharing, offering lesson design assistance, or my fav is offering a collaboration lesson with another grade level - gives an educator friend a shot in the arm, a dose of fun, a planning break, a glimpse of crazy🙄, all all of the above. #masterychat
A6: School should be a safe space for everyone away from outside stressors. Some various colleagues are having personal relationship complications. Saying hi, popping in, sending a text, doing dinner, or gathering for a happy hour reminds them school is a second home #masterychat

A6 Sadly, I have quite a few going through it right now. I plan to keep supporting, being positive and there for them, and lending a hand in any way I can. I also have a little bag of goodies, to add a smile, I'm preparing #MasteryChat
Oh the middle schoolers LOVE it!!!!! I introduce vocab with Price is Right music and flashing lights - lol - hard to get sad in that type of environment #masterychat
They might, coaches give people skills, mentors guide us through experiences. We need both. Learning how to submit lesson plans, getting better with the math curriculum: those are coaching issues. #masterychat

A5: Gather the complainers ... the complainers that also have ideas. Have lunch & figure out proposals to pitch to admins. Pitch it together & pitch it with passion to create positive change. #masterychat
We have a thank-you board with note cards (thanks to an awesome colleague) to write messages to one another in the mailroom. Sometimes serious, sometimes goofy, sometimes anonymous #masterychat

Gotta head out #MasteryChat! Need to take care of some things before #ditchbook at 10pm EST. I'm moderating a conversation about "Ditching Traditional Assessments." Please bring your ideas!

A7: I started sketch-noting for a lesson this week and students have LOVED it! It's been fun to see my students who usually struggle really connect with the learning through it! #masterychat
A6: I think my whole team is getting overwhelmed with the myriad of "bad things" that have happened this year. We just have to take turns telling each other "you've got this! We're going to survive and thrive!" #masterychat#growthmindset#feelthelove

I have an amazing mentor @MACKENZ1E_M who teaches me how to be a kinder person and inspires me in more ways than one. She lets me try out new technology and made me feel so welcome. She is a teacher who I aspire to be like in the future. #masterychat

A5: One thing I have been doing since New Year's Day is listening to a positive podcast on my morning commute, hanging a mantra in my office (Focus on Progress) to help me see the positive impact that we are making, and getting into classrooms #masterychat
A7: Being the "tech guy" I often have an "in" with the Ss when I enter a room. The key is to plan something awesome enough to keep that level of excitement. I often stress giving Ss voice, choice, and ownership.
#masterychat
Every day doesn't need to be perfect, it won't be. The plans you make will change, rarely will a lesson plan go as planned. That doesn't make you a terrible T. If you're here for the Ss & your decisions center around them, you'll be just fine! You're never alone #masterychat

It’s more about what experiences they can draw from that I have & they don’t. This happened, I need to do x or y. You’ve been in a similar situation, what were the outcomes? Mentoring is about more than skills, it’s about life adjustments & being able to have support #masterychat
A5: By focusing on the positive impact we are making in our ss lives. I keep notes, pictures, and little tokens from ss to remind me of my why. Whenever I think about my ss I fall in love with teaching all over again! #masterychat

A7 I need to mix things up a bit! We have been a little stuck in a rut lately, so it's time to get crazy. I think I will recruit my up-for-anything husband to record another "quest-giver" video for our upcoming unit on quadrilaterals. #MasteryChathttps://t.co/py57QzraWA
A7: Today, I did a fractions escape room with my students, and my students seemed to really enjoy it. I also did a @flipgrid which engaged my students as well. As a pre-service teacher, I am always looking for ways to grow and improve. #masterychat
A6: I think just being there for each other to celebrate victories and lending a shoulder to lean on during the challenging days. Sometimes you just need someone to listen. Be that person. #teachersdeserveit#MasteryChat
A7 My Ss are teaching their very own lessons! They explored a Q that they wondered about, designed a lesson, and get to teach peers, Ts, and admin. 1st round finished today and everyone felt the LOVE #MADAboutDeeperLearning#masterychat
A6: I know a few Ts who are miserable where they are, but for various reasons don’t want to leave their school. Amazing teachers, but they would be so much happier with a change of scenery. Hard to convince them that change can be good, and is not admiring defeat #masterychat

Honestly, no. I felt alone after my 1st year. (Both personally and professionally.) But my commitment to TFA wouldn’t let me quit. My 2nd year was much better. I was blessed with a literacy coach that was patient with me and would model lessons for me all the time. #masterychat
A7: We listened to our Ss; they were frustrated with reading & responding (per our district guidelines) for 30 minutes everyday after a lesson. So we changed up the reading block. We involved choice, blogging, and literature circles. The Ss are LOVING it and thriving #MasteryChat

Sometimes gathering together, airing grievances, and then making a decision, as a group, to say, "Reboot!"

#masterychat
A7: Started playing Words With Friends EDU and the Ss love it. They asked to stay in my class longer and shared the new words they learned with me. #masterychat
A7: My partner teacher and I are turning our classrooms into a pirate’s dream. Students will be taking measurements of a pirate ship for math. #masterychat
A7: We watched the Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl victory parade while working on our short story rough drafts today! Teaching outside of Philly, #BrotherlyLove is the best kind of love! #FlyEaglesFly#MasteryChat
A7- my students absolutely love when we use Quizizz to review and practice. It's competitive and interactive. They love the funny memes. It is always how I end the week, they look forward to it and it's an awesome assessment tool with instant feedback #MasteryChat
A7: We are hosting our Growth Jam tomorrow afternoon to acknowledge all of the students that met there growth targets on our middle of year assessments! #MasteryChat
Ok, so I like the idea of sketchnoting, but I am still kind of wrapping my head around it. I might have to pick your brain for some ideas! Expect a DM sometime soon. :) #Masterychat
A7 I *love* the idea of an appreciation board that @NAEmmanuele mentioned and now I want to make one for my school. And I want to incorporate curiosity as a form of appreciation. #masterychat
A7: I showed the Ss how to put GIFs on their Google Sites. Today, I gave them opportunity to play games. Some said, "Can we keep working on our sites?" I have to keep that going. I can't just try to do it. #seewhatIdidthere#masterychat
A7: I work in an alternative ed school with high school students. We have a daily quote and writing prompt that helps to warm them up for the day and explore their own personal mantra. #MasteryChat
A6 I see great teachers all the time doubt their awesomeness and what they do. They need constant support and affirmation...what anyone needs. We just need to be more attentive and share kindness. It is the little things that count. Be there. #masterychat

A7: I opened up energy projects this week. A bit of a free for all but always engaging. I’m going to finally make (2yrs later) my peltier cell candle driven fan. #masterychat
Q6: There are a lot of teachers that seem a little stressed out right now. Perhaps some positive notes in the workroom or cookies in the lounge will help someone have a better day. #MasteryChat
This chat always leaves me feeling refreshed. I am so grateful to have joined this chat, and I do consider myself to be a part of the #masterychat family. Thank you for welcoming this pre-service teacher in!

Loving all the LOVE tonight #masterychat Family! Do not forget to follow these outstanding educators that make up this amazing conversation! Then.. Keep it going!
A7: I’ve always been a fan of field trips, or “real world” application. Students presenting projects to the community is also quite effective. Once they see how these things apply outside of the building, or how they impact strangers, it’s hard to pull them away. #MasteryChat
A7: not sure if it'll be this week as we have our weekly test tomorrow 🤪🤪
Hoping to find a more engaging and exciting way to review and master the standards that are still eluding them these next few weeks b4 the big state tests. I will not let my Ss lose faith! #masterychat

During last night’s #WeirdEd chat, I resolved to take a big risk next week, for the sake of taking a risk. Haven’t figured out details, but it’s going to involve solving a big problem using our awesome new maker space! Excited to see what happens! #masterychat
A7.2: I started a blog finally. This is probably one of the best things I could do, besides growing my PLN on Twitter, to help my Ss swoon with love. Reflection is powerful. https://t.co/0LNYnR44Om#masterychat
A7 Incorporating more and more technology because they love it and always get excited when they learn or use their knowledge to create something new. I try to keep their love up by making as much hands on as I can. #MasteryChat
A8: I’m super pumped about Math Word Problem Operation. The kids will get dressed up like surgeons and work in groups to solve multi-step WP. Using diff learning tools to guide them. #MasteryChat

OR What is an idea you heard during this chat that you want to try?
A7: Tomorrow, I am going to have students provide feedback on the last unit and give me some ideas of fun activities to include next year. They have fun giving me ideas, and I like to see what they have to say! #masterychat
A7: just ordered 365 (you gotta’ love Amazon Prime) glowing items for a 5th gr project on the planets I heard about today. They will be presenting research and creativity w/younger Ss. Making it fun and memorable!!. #masterychat
Hey #masterychat and #mschat let's keep this party going! Come right on over to #waledchat starting in 4 minutes! We will be reflecting on technology and education. Hope you'll join us!
A7 Ss identify character traits of each other and then I create a Valentine for each of them with the words of their classmates on it. Some have kept them for years - a reminder on a dark day that they have value. #masterychat
A3: This very moment, i am in love with teaching. Despite the looming testing, my Ss are engaged in PBL and are surprising me everyday! #MasteryChat#14DaysofTeachingLove
And I bet they are still reading and responding! Just in a way that is FAR more engaging. Kudos for noticing the problem and finding a solution! :) #Masterychat
A7: We listened to our Ss; they were frustrated with reading & responding (per our district guidelines) for 30 minutes everyday after a lesson. So we changed up the reading block. We involved choice, blogging, and literature circles. The Ss are LOVING it and thriving #MasteryChat

I would stress to my mentee to find him/herself first! Teaching is about being comfortable with who you are and how you connect with Ss. And above all, make time to enjoy things done before teaching. It’s okay to leave the work at work. #masterychat
A6: I try to go out of my way to look for needs in others. I send encouraging notes, leave a surprise candy or coke for them, and pray for them. #masterychat
Thanks for a great hour, all! These chats on Thursdays gives me the little extra “oomf” I need to propel me through Friday. Now it’s time to reflect on how I can fall in love with treadmill running since I can’t run outside in this weather 🙄🙄🙄 #MasteryChat
Great idea! What are you using for 8-bit animated gifs? I just put a whole slew of mini choice projects together for my STEAM with MinecraftEDU class & would LOVE to add that to the mix! #masterychat

A7: We are opening up our own school-based coffee shop, Bearbucks, later this month. Teachers will be able to order up a special coffee--whip cream, syrup and other yumminess for 2 hours per day!

#masterychat was AMAZING tonight because everyone was so honest about their feelings! You can't bottle up the bad days or you will explode! Nice to chat with PLN who understand it's not all roses but in the end we help each other SHINE! Thanks for the invite @TechieTeachOtt !
Q7. I started flexible seating this week and while it cost me a little money, it’s worth how much they love it and the affect it has had on the classroom vibe. They talk about not being able to wait to come back to my room. #smittened#masterychat
A7: I'm putting out new Valentine centers. My kindergarten Ss get so excited to use heart shaped manipulatives to solve math problems and sound out words (say-it, move it). Providing a hook! @burgessdave Things that seem small to us but are so special to our Ss! #MasteryChat
A fun twist ... let them record their ideas on @Flipgrid . And, play them as they are submitted on a rolling basis. Gives the shy ones a true voice. #masterychat
We used https://t.co/Svqzx1G6sq. *I* just learned how to make these animated gifs right before I taught my Ss, so not sure if there is a better site. But Ss enjoyed it! #masterychat
