Hello, hello! Addison from Tennessee. Jumping in for a little recharge. Best book this year has been #Culturize by @casas_jimmy and the best PD ... well, the best book this year has been #Culture. #pln365
Hello everyone Yvette Director/Founder @inspireNewRo I've read some really good books this year, but this is my current favorite Hacking the Writing Workshop @AngelaStockman#hacklearning#pln365
Hello #pln365 Anabel from NC. First time here! Looking forward to learning from all of you! Favorite professional books this year... Lead Like a Pirate and Chase the Lion
HI #pln365. Best PD this year so far as been a gamified approach to instructional design. I'm reading far too many professional books at once right now!
Now, adding to that list, I have to agree with everything this group is saying, currently reading Principled Principal and #eduprotocol and #betheone , yes, all 3 :) #pln365
Hi y'all. Leslie from the ATL joining #pln365 for first time. Love the "reverse it" format. So many amazing books. One fave is An Everyone Culture by Kegan & Lahey.
Q1: What has been the consistent formula for average to below average success in most K-12 American schools for the past thirty years? ... OR ... What is the ugly truth about today's schools? #pln365
Q1: What is the biggest obstacle in your way to creating a classroom and school culture that entices children to be vulnerable and learn to their hearts fill? #pln365
A 1) Why isn't every professional responsible for understanding the complexity of dyslexia and being responsible for truly supporting their dyslexic students' needs? #pln365
Happy to be here, but my head is already exploding from Q1. Or is it A1. Need. To. Rewire. My. Neural. Pathways to do this. I'm all up in the discomfort zone and haven't even started! Love it! #pln365
What is the inevitable result when adults are crippled by their beliefs about their own limitations? How do adult fears about our inadequacies manifest in our response to students? #pln365
Q2: What is a misconception of the term average? This is such a thing as average, but with students we should never think average is acceptable. Average is a representation of the general "middle," not a target. For PEOPLE, there is no such thing as average. #pln365
Let me teach you...it's an obsession! All of my research has shown me that meeting the needs of dyslexics is the most effectivel way we as teachers can make the world a better place! #pln365
Q2: Why do student-teacher relationships matter? Why is culturally responsive pedagogy relevant for EVERY classroom? Why is the average of your classroom test scores irrelevant? #pln365
We have to change this for ALL of us. Businesses don't want to take risks. Scientists are afraid of taking risks. Heck, we can't even talk politics for the risk of offending someone. We've become risk averse which is NOT American at all. #pln365
I've taught the same s for the past two years with pretty severe dyslexia. I've learned a lot about the supportive tech available. Still much to learn! #pln365
My principal said a great thing today. "Most of the problems we face in the world could be solved if we would be willing to look in the mirror. But no one wants to do that. Easier to look and point out the issues of others." Hit me like a ton of bricks. #pln365
A1: make all the mistakes you did the first time around but, be a better listener to feedback. We get better quick when we can listen to and implement feedback. #pln365
Q1) What would you call a teacher that is a teacher of content vs a teacher of kids. (an educator that educates empowers the future leaders of our world.) #pln365
A1 sometimes our expectations as educators are unrealistic. We need to figure out what is best for the child before setting the expectations. What seems to a minimal effort is sometimes the best we're going to get at that moment. Accept each success as it comes.#pln365
Q3 What can we do as educators to change the way we educate our students in this rapidly changing (technological) world? How can we make learning more relevant? #pln365
Ironically, looking in the mirror and making changes to what we find there is the only thing we can control! Our obsession with trying to fix others is futile. So not only would most problems be solved, until we attend to what's in mirror, no probs will! #pln365
Why does our education policy fixate on measures of school "success" that have such a tenuous relationship to meaningful long-term success for students - even though the public doesn't value those measures? #pln365https://t.co/bgMMhlS9f2
Q3-Why should we bother changing how schools are run? How colleges work? How we view the whole paradigm of education? (spoiler alert, it is more important to know how to think than what is on a piece of paper, even more impt-what you do w/that knowledge). #PLN365
Q1) How would @unfoldthesoul challenge educators to set the bar high for all students. Here is the bar. Everyone must reach the bar. There is infinite room above the bar!!! #pln365
Q3: What is the biggest problem with teachers' perspectives in the 21st century? As in, many still believe they are the keepers of information when they need to be sherpas guiding students up the mountain of knowledge. #pln365
Will send list, here's some stats:1 in 5 are D, and if their needs are not met they are 3x more likely to engage in high risk behavior like suicide and addiction, Studies show 40% of addicts in treatment are undiagnosed D's, OG teaches Ds to read but schools rarely use it #pln365
Q4 What is we are all learners, works in progress? Why do we need to focus on the process not the product, and seize opportunities when we can? #pln365
As long as you are a valued and contributing member of society it does not matter. Everyone should excel at what they are good at regardless of their path! #pln365
the public thinks those measures are important; most parents were educated in a world where those skills were important BUT now those skills wanted by Fortune 500 has flipped..wish I had the visual #pln365
Q4: How can you stay motivated as a education professional when you feel that that your practice or career is not where you hoped it would be at the present time? #pln365
Q4: What is an attainable goal in the modern world because time is money and therefore cancels out their opportunity for learning when it does not meet the maximum "allowed" time? Also known as the "Greed Syndrome." #pln365
I think employers to an extent also contribute to it as well. If they see Local-CC versus ____ State University, the question becomes, why did you not get into __SU? #pln365
When we only teach to test and don’t build relationships behind the content, we find kids who aren’t invested in their learning environment and will easily lose interest. Once they lose interest, then we have lost them completely! #pln365
Agree yet poll after poll shows public does NOT think that the standardized tests we use to gauge school quality are reliable. It is also true they hold on to traditional 3Rs and are distrustful of PBL-ish assessment. They like tests, just not to "grade" schools or Ts. #pln365
Hello! I'm Sarah, Digital Learning Coach from north TX. My brain is a bit fried from the #pln365 chat with @mlarson_nj but I'm excited to join in to #CultureEd tonight!
In my area our CC system is STRONG. Completing a program @TCCva allows for easy admittance to one of our "bigger" universities. When looking for employees I'd see a CC as a choice that shows a candidate is fiscally responsible. Maybe it is time for a paradigm shift! #PLN365
Working with 2 GE ICR teachers, both new partnerships, who appreciate, respect and inspire me this year. Unfortunately, I am not working with either next year. :( When a partnership works, why split it up? #pln365
