Hiya, #BookCampPD!
Very NOT an awards-show fan. Would rather scrub the shower and toilet with a toothbrush than watch.
So, thank you for giving me a great place to be!
Karl, 3rd-6th gr basic skills ELA teacher from the soggy Jersey shore checking in.

I work with 4 Ts during my day. I try to grab shots throughout the day to show what our Ss are doing. I don't think to take shots of us. I want to promote our kids. I share stories in class abt me.
After school hours, I want my time. I confess, I need separation.

A2: #REALyouSnaps are great to bring the best out of our students. I used it to learn about my students. I learned that I should know at least 10 personal things about Ss before teaching them content. #REALyouSnaps helps with this!
#BookCampPD
A2- I think my Pre-K kiddos would LOVE #realYOUsnaps! Was thinking of showing them @Seesaw. Would be an awesome way for them to show who they are. Classmates could comment. 🤔#bookcamppd#bereal
I love all of the photos you share of your students learning! @KymHarjes does that during the day as well. What a terrific way to share with others what they are doing. #BookCampPD
A3: The .R.E.A.L + Innovators' Compass looks like a wonderful activity. I have been thinking a lot about culture and an activity like that could really go a long way to build culture, learning about others is so positive. #BookCampPD
Q3. Would you like to use this communication tool to help a person discover their professional and personal aspirations?

A3: Using the tool over the course of the semester or school year with teachers and students would help people plan, check their goals, reflect, and revise their intentions. #bookcamppd
A3: The reaction I get from working with students and teachers is the feedback that I find the most motivating. It is authentic and meaningful to me, giving me the energy and enthusiasm to engage in the work. #bookcamppd
A3: Dreams I have include taking my MFA in creative writing and my PhD, combining literacy and technology to study the impact of storytelling and narrative. #bookcamppd
A3- I love this Innovator's Compass. Great questions to cause you to think on your strengths. Makes me feel like I'm in an interview, tho. 🤣 #bookcamppd#bereal
A3: In order to follow my passions, I need to carve out dedicated time each day for my professional life, my family, my health, and my writing and reading. It is hard to balance and meet those goals without planning. #bookcamppd
Q4. Which of the “REAL talk treasures,” listed in the graphic, would you like to focus on during the upcoming week?
What will you do to help yourself remember the key points when you are in the middle of a conversation? #BookCampPD
A3 I love this process bc I firmly believe that you can’t move forward unless you own your present and past. Reflection is key for both students and teachers – learners of all ages. Each and everyday. #embraceliteracy#livetolearn#loveyourprocess#bookcamppd
I have to focus on "Provide Accountability" over the next two weeks before our March Break as I have several presentations so resources need to be prepared, sequenced, and curated. #bookcamppd
A4- I try to look for opportunities to exalt my colleagues and students. I'll stick with that REAL talk treasure. What does that say about me? 😬#bookcamppd#bereal
A3: I think this tool makes the individual question and consider the direction they're going in and if it makes them truly happy. I think it also helps people discover what does make them happy and how to get there. #bookcamppd
Q4. Which of the “REAL talk treasures,” listed in the graphic, would you like to focus on during the upcoming week?
What will you do to help yourself remember the key points when you are in the middle of a conversation? #BookCampPD
A4: I also want to "Value Individuality" and respect team members even if we have differing opinions on important aspects of our work. Listening and compromising are important parts of working within a team. So is curbing one's ego! #bookcamppd
I've recently been converted to Humble Inquiry, though I didn't call it that then. Have had to manage a difficult mental health situation at home recently. Changing my language has produced greater trust, greater comm, greater respect, and less stress.

A4: Open Exaltation - we have a lot of positives happening within our building, that Ts are making happen, I don't think they are being shared to let everyone know we are seeing the hard work and it is making a difference. #BookCampPD
Yes. I think that it is important that the work is for them and done with them, as opposed to "doing it to them." I always prefer active versus passive participants in any professional development. #bookcamppd
Would you like to help spread the word about our #BookCampPD chat?
Just DM me an address to send it to, let me know if you would like a sticker or magnet, and I will get it to a snail's mail box near you!
A4. I think I'd like to focus on Open Exaltation. I think we don't spend enough time building others up. I think it's too easy to fall victim to "cya" and promoting my brand type thinking.
#BookCampPD
A4 All great focus areas on one’s daily journey but open exaltation cn resonate w Ss & Ts alike. Celebrating collegial successes in front of Ss cn only motivate them more to achieve their goals and connect/unite them w their T’s efforts. #onboard#communityoflearners#bookcamppd
Pushing others forward sounds marvelous! I still have educators who send me messages about how I gently pushed them toward greater leadership and how much they appreciate it still. #BookCampPD
A4: I like the idea of "Humble Inquiry" both in how we interact with others and how we pursue our self-directed learning. I think it is much easier to learn when we take off our expert hats and allow the learning to take us in unexpected directions. #bookcamppd
I want to continue to listen to listen not to give an answer. I want to continue to build long-lasting relationships with staff and students. This is the time of year when things get a little stressful, so I want to be there for people. #bookcamppd
MANY thanks to Tara Martin @TaraMartinEDU for joining #BookCampPD and sharing her amazing wealth of ideas and caring attitude toward students and adults. We appreciate you!
Just for fun I located several special occasions that happen in March.
What a creative thing in asking your students to name their own special day on March 26th! They could nominate and vote for their favs. #BookCampPD
