#WO2WorldChat is a monthly Twitter conversation for current educators and school leaders that takes place every 3rd Wednesday of the month at 8:30 PM EST. Diana DaCosta, along with 2 co-moderators from the West Orange Teacher Twitter Taskforce Team will host these monthly chats. #WO2WorldChat's mission is to promote collegiality, collaboration, and professional development beyond the confines of the traditional school day that in turn will promote the success of all students.

Question 1 is right around the corner!!!!! Please remember to use our hastags: #WO2WorldChat and #LivBits as you answer the questions! To stay organized be sure to number your answers A1; A2; etc. I'M SO HAPPY YOU ARE HERE!!! LET"S GET THIS CHAT STARTED!!!!
A1: My best definition of digital citizenship is when a person uses technology & social media to socialize, educate, communicate & develop relationships with others about a variety of topics. It can be a lifestyle for some. #WO2WorldChat#WO2World
A1: Digital Citizenship: Online integrity that seeks to be inspirational to others, offer ideas, respectful of others, & positive. In the words of Thumper in the movie Bambi,"If you can't say it nice, then don't say it at all."
Eeeeeeppppp!!!! Sooooooooo many friends checking in with me tonight!!!! THANK YOU for joining me on my first solo hosting gig!!!! I'm soooooo grateful you're here with me!!!!! I want to show the Twittersphere that #KidsCanTeachUs!!!! #LivBIts#WO2WorldChat
Q1 @kellyelementary- From old school gal- Digital refers to fingers- digital citizenship encompasses words our digits type on devices. Ts & Ss should model & teach communication to serve, encourage, assist, enlighten a peaceful planet for all living here!#WO2WorldChat#LivBits
A1: #digcit has to come with PRACTICE!! If kids aren't practicing in REAL spaces, it's hard to learn how to engage and interact. It's one of the reasons I think class social media accounts are so incredible. Here's one of my favorite ones!! #WO2WorldChat#LivBits#KidsCanTeachUs
Q1 To me, digital citizenship means practicing responsible citizenship etiquette online. Citizenship rules apply across all genres. I also believe it means using your voice to advocate for your platform in a responsible manner while online. #WO2WorldChat#WO2World@thelivbits
A1: I think helping our students see the digital world as a possible place to exist & to project their identity - & to tell their story. Also - using it to learn about the world beyond theirs & listen to other stories being told. #WO2WorldChat#LivBits#KidsCanTeachUs
I like the word ETIQUETTE very much b/c that includes not commenting someone to death. I have that happening to me on Instagram. The girl doesn't understand how to comment and move on. #WO2WorldChat@Caranewman12 is helping me figure it out!
A2: I encourage my students to share their passions with the world by encouraging them to use social media positively to share ideas. They create presentations using learning software that can enable them to share ideas with anyone across the globe. #WO2WorldChat#WO2World
Q2 Genius Hour is one way that my Ss can share their passions! Also, choice in research topics allows Ss to learn more about their passions in writing class! I need to improve on sharing with the world! #WO2WorldChat@thelivbits
A1 Digital citizenship is kindly and openly engaging, connecting w/ the global community through tech in ways that enhances one’s life, academically, socially, & emotionally. #WeAreBetterTogether#WO2WorldChat
A2: Kids need to believe that their voice matters and that they can make a difference! I have been most inspired to encourage kids to share their passions with the world through social action projects. #WO2WorldChat#Livbits#AvenueForChange
A2 Giving Ss choices in what THEY want to read research & write allows them to pursue their passions. Sharing by utilizing technology such as @padlet potentially allows them to share with the world. I also showcase S work via @Twitter to reach more people #WO2WorldChat#WO2World
Q2 Ts & me are mindful of creating safe environment of acceptance . We provide opportunities for students to shine- artistically, musically, writing, inventing & creating. Let them know that it is ok to make mistakes. That's how we learn and improve! #WO2WorldChat#Livbits
A2 In my virtually team-taught course, we encourage our 9th graders to publish all Ind. Demonstrations of Learning to a real audience, like Goodreads, blogs, twitter, etc. #bronke3@MrBronke#WO2WorldChat
A2 I always seek global collaboration activities and projects for our classrooms. #Skypeathon jumps out at me as a time when students were able to do this. We also have launched student podcasts and blogs so students could share and amplify their voice. #WO2WorldChat#livbits
A2: Through audio, video, writing, photography - anything that, in its composition, that shows what they love. Be it Narutu, Minecraft, Dork Diaries, Stock Car Racing - whatever - there is a story behind and within that passion. #WO2WorldChat#LivBits#KidsCanTeachUs
We use Flipgrid and Seesaw with K-5 Ss to share passions. We have also done Google Hangouts with friends in other places! I’m going to encourage Ss to create Smith Talks, like Ted Talks this year! We did this a few years ago and will bring it back! #WO2WorldChat@thelivbits
A2: I encourage students to share by creating small, achievable activities to help students build confidence creating content. Our 2nd graders are working creating a digital reading community with @Flipgrid this fall and we have learned so much already! #WO2WorldChat#thelivbits
A2: love @geniushour it is one of my favorite units to teach - I learn so much about my Ss and their passions. This year we are going to create a social action project around a passion as well - excited to see where that takes us #KidsCanTeachUs#WO2WorldChat
A2: I get my students to share their passions with the world by exposing them to different platforms- my favorite has bee @Seesaw and @Flipgrid. I also try to make their interests multimodal by using books, websites, videos, and exposing to the REAL LIFE !!!!! #WO2WorldChat
A3: Apps to encourage student voice? Recently started using @Flipgrid. After only using it one time, I have witnessed my Ss having fun sharing their points of view and feelings with their class.
A3: Coming from K I really liked using @Flipgrid, it was a great way for Ss to share their thoughts and express their voice instead of writing. I am already using it in 4th grade! #WO2WorldChat#LivBits
A3: My fav #digcit resource is @thelivbits! I use her blog and videos as mentors. Ss are able to practice reading & thinking while being exposed to positive messages. My 5ths have been using her blog to find Liv's messages and then creating their own! #WO2WorldChat#Livbits
A3: My littles LOVE using @Seesaw to share their thoughts, stories, and learning! This year my hope is to try to use @Flipgrid more to connect outside of our school! Also, super excited for #GRA18#WOGRA18#WO2WorldChat
A3 The best resources when teaching DigCit within the context!!!! I love using @Flipgrid with my students for them to share their voice! They ❤️ it too! It’s easy even for the youngest student! @thelivbits#WO2WorldChat
Totally agree with you. This is what drives me and why I am so passionate about global collaboration and #TeachSDGs. Love seeing such a passionate group here looking to change that narrative. #WO2WorldChat

I think it's super important to remember not ALL kids like to make videos!!!! So apps that use more than one way to show thinking are great for those who prefer something else! I personally LOVE making videos 💓 #WO2WorldChat#LivBits
A1: My thinking on digital citizenship has evolved so much over the last year! Dig citizens need to give back more than they take from the online world. We talk a lot about how to #showyourwork and why the visible mess of learning can motivate others. #WO2WorldChat#thelivbits
A4: What inspires me to amplify student voice in the classroom is my students. They take the lead. I let them know that OUR classroom is a safe environment for communication & developing one's voice. They are very confident, competent & communicative. #WO2WorldChat#WO2World
A4 Currently, I follow @thelivbits . I am looking to expand who I follow to inspire and encourage me to amplify student voice and looking for "voices" that can be used as models for my Ss #WO2WorldChat#WO2World
A4: Following the @woschools tech team inspires me to amplify S voice in my classroom. Many of you (my colleagues) show me that it's easy to use tools in my classroom to get my Ss talking and sharing their ideas with others.
All of my fabulous #WOTweechers in our #WO2World PLN are always inspiring me with the amazing things they are doing with their Ss. Also @thelivbits is SO inspiring and gives me hope for all of my littles learning how to navigate in the digital world! #WO2WorldChat
Good luck tonight against Boston @lebronjames You could start being a winner now by eliminating plastic straws. Did you know that plastic straws are a major problem? Here are some problems & possible solutions #lebronjames#skipthestraw#takeastand
A5: The biggest block to student voice? I don't believe there is one. Or I haven't experienced a block. There are many ways for students to express themselves. I encourage & nurture. They have done a great job with communicating & expressing themselves. #WO2WorldChat#WO2World
A5: The biggest roadblock that I have w/ my Ss is access. Often times I want them to use social to connect with an expert or share their own thoughts/voice and I can't bc of blocks. I trust my Ss & wish we could do these things in the classroom. #WO2WorldChat#Livbits
A5: Understanding digital citizenship is key with my Ss. Many of them are not aware of how to interact appropriately online with others. To work around the roadblock, I give clear expectations for assignments, and model appropriate responses.
A5: My biggest roadblock is TIME! I am still working on integrating tech into my classroom as an alternative to things rather than using tech as a separate entity. My goal is for tech to become the way of education, not an added "treat" #WO2WorldChat#LivBits
A5 The biggest roadblock is ME feeling under the pressure of TIME. I want to give my students a voice in the classroom whenever possible, but often find it easier to "delegate" and "tell" rather than have them "figure it out" and "experiment and explore" #WO2World#WO2WorldChat
Q5 Roadblock- Ss who lack confidence, fear of failing, academic struggles. Never, give up! Think outside the box, respect all Ss and MODEL expectations including our own problem solving Look for small steps & build! #WO2WorldChat#Livbits
Have not experienced a roadblock, but some challenges include, Ss who are apprehensive about sharing their thoughts and finding the TIME to guide and foster appropriate ways for students to share their voice! Hoping to face these head on this school year! #WO2WorldChat
A5 The biggest roadblock is access at school and at home. Also encouragement to go for it. More and more teachers are jumping into global collaboration daily which provides students with awareness #WO2WorldChat
A5: When adults feel uncomfortable or have reservations about sharing their own voices digitally it definitely impacts willingness to allow students to do the same. Good intentions to protect kids can have the unintended effect of stifling #StuVoice#WO2WorldChat#thelivbits
A5: One issue we have is a logistical one -- our libraries are not equipped with Chromebooks so we are dependent on Ss bringing their own -- which isn't always possible, especially for the "littles". Workaround? the generosity o f Rose Kelly! #wo2worldchat@thelivbits
A6: My biggest wish for my students' digital lives is that they learn balance. Digital communication is good but so is face-to-face. I want them to know there is a happy medium & have strong interpersonal skills, in/out of the digital realm. #WO2WorldChat#WO2World
Q6 I hope our Ss will truly realize the power of their digital voices. Fingers on a keypad don't allow eye contact. What is the message? Joy OR sadness. They literally hold the heart of another in their fingers. Small world- make it peaceful #WO2WorldChat#Livbits
A6:My biggest wish for my Ss digital lives? That they would be responsible, positive, and encouraging to others online. My wish is that they would change the world around them with the power of their words!
A6: The biggest wish I have for my Ss is that they experience all the good and amazing things the digital word has to offer! Hopefully a bigger emphasis on #digcit will minimize all of the negative! #ateachercandream#WO2WorldChat
A6: I would love to see more elementary students testing the power of #stuvoice under the care of supportive parents & Ts. Validation of this form is such a powerful motivator, even at an early age #WO2WorldChat#thelivbits
A7: My biggest wish for my digital life is to remain positive about it. There is quite a bit of negativity on social media which can be off-putting. However, there are positive aspects & I wish to remember the positive parts. #WO2WorldChat#WO2World
A7: My biggest wish for my digital life is that one day my own two children can look back and be proud of MY digital footprint and their OWN footprints following in my lead... xo #WO2WorldChat#Livbits#dgicit
A7: 1st wish is to connect with other educators to continue learning new ways to implement instruction... 2nd wish is including families in their Ss learning to create a more positive community! #WO2WorldChat#LivBits
Q7 For me, it's still new. Finding an old dog can learn new tricks. Hoping I continue 2 be lifelong digital learner. Hope my digital footprint NEVER causes one to feel invisible. Hope to continue striving for servant leadership digitally & in all ways! #WO2WorldChat#Livbits
Q7 Oh how I wish literacy, technology, and #StudentVoice would all be integrated in every classroom worldwide. All students deserve access to good literature & technology. And all students deserve to have their voices heard. #WO2WorldChat#WO2World@thelivbits
A7 Staying current, as a teacher I want to be a role model for and mentor to my students. I want to always keep up with best practices, technology-wise and other-wise to ensure I'm delivering the best education possible to my Ss #WO2WorldChat#WO2World
A7: I want to take more risks with my digital life. It’s easy to feel nervous blogging and putting your ideas out there, and I’d love to feel even more confident in that area. And I want to do all I can to boost the voices of the teachers and students I admire! #WO2WorldChat
A7 My Wish for my digital future is to keep on learning from the amazing people I have connected with on Twitter 😀 I have learned so much and met so many awesome people over the last year 🤯🤯 #WO2WorldChat
A7: I am amazed at how important Twitter has become to my professional growth. I definitely need to add my own voice to my professional account. (This was my first chat!) I love giving a window into our media center program but I need to walk the walk. #WO2WorldChat#thelivbits
