TNedchat is a way for educators in Tennessee to share thoughts, resources, and information. The weekly chat is moderated by Jessica Warner (@jessawarner) and Samantha Bates (@sjsbates).
A1: The initiatives around STEM that are popping up in schools everywhere is something that I am really looking forward to! Students are super excited about robotics, drones, AR and VR. #TNedchat
A1) I am excited because my middle school teachers are learning to code robots & drones. My high school teachers will begin OSHA-10 certificationin Advanced Manufacturing. #TnEdChat
Michael from Chattanooga
A1) Increased integration of digital fabrication across all grade bands and subject areas, and (hopefully) an increased focus on truly valuing process/soft skills (by assessing them as if they were more valuable than content) #TNedchat
A2: New role, new office space, working to create more video helps for Ts, Ss, Ps for those that struggle with step by step written instruction- giving two options for teaching concepts #tnedchat
A2)
I’m trying to implement better time/project management strategies so I can provide more thorough support to teachers.
Also, working on having more fun :)
#TnEDChat
Q2: I've been focusing more more on data-driven decision making to promote change and innovation. It's nice when it is not my argument, as the data argues for itself.
#TNedchat
We are reading @JonGordon11’s book Calked The Power of a Positive Team. I am seeing results already. I have chosen my #OneWord—#Connect —so glad to see you all here on #TnEdChat!
I'm starting over this year. Learning so much in a new-to-me position! Looking at new dots, finally connecting old ones, trying to find a way to bridge people and ideas. #TNedchat
A2: We have changed our approach to behavioral concerns and SEL. We also have made some curricular changes, especially regarding subject integration. We are also trying to use our AR/VR lab for consuming, curating, and creating this year. #TnEdChat
A2) Also, on a personal mission to convince the world that the art of teaching and learning is at least as valuable as the quantitative metrics we use to gauge said skills. #TNedchat
A2 New class and with new curriculum so I’ve had to change it all! Really focusing on visuals to help my littles be successful. And having fun in all our learning. Also incorporating a lot of concious discipline strategies for #sel#tnedchat
A3 Change is hard for some people and often causes pushback. I'm dealing with that but have found if people feel valued, respected and heard they are willing to try and do #tnedchat
A3: Barriers may persist as a result of a lack of communication. I'm hoping that educators are sharing the great things from their learning spaces every day. If you don't #tellyourstory, others will just make stuff up that may not be true. #TNedchathttps://t.co/Cdw75W1KSM
A3: Balancing urgency and patience. Change takes time. Effective implementation takes time and intensity and intentionality. Maintaining momentum and motivation to give it all I got. #tnedchat
A3: more initiatives, more enthusiasm and less time. Choosing what to remove from the list of fun is hard, but will be needed to make sure we do the right things well. #TNedchat

A3
• overextending myself
• testing culture
• the confluence of stated goals and existing action plans
• limited leg room on planes (seriously makes travel difficult)
Yes, I'm struggling right now with just feeling reactive, that isn't my nature. Looking forward to getting ahead of the urgent to be more proactive for our school #tnedchat

A3 Barrier to change, public education is notorious for doing things because we have always done them. Cant be afraid to do something different, innovative #TNedchat
You can create your own @MergeVR things in @tinkercad and open them with Merge thing creator (I think that’s the app). We also love creating with HP Reveal! Saw an awesome use of Receal for parent STEM nights integrating ELA and Art

Not yet, but the development can be done in @unity3d. One can also import 3D objects in Object Viewer App to View on the Cube. Object Viewer for MERGE Cube by Merge Apps https://t.co/8P5yJ4mdBS#tnedchat

Stop by any time! Just rolled it out with @setnstem STEM Fellows last month. We are rolling with AR/VR!
Next level?! Check out @ShannonSeigle@TPreneurCHA project! Her kids made @OculusRift fully immersive models of cells in @unity3d. You get to play as a ribosome! #tnedchat

A3: Language—not just clearly foreign languages, but even the language of SEL, the vernacular of emerging technologies, and the language with which we communicate with one another without generating new barriers. #TnEdChat
A4: I’ve learned that relevance is based on the audience...I work w/CTE Directors & Perkins was reauthorized so relevance will mean staying on top of the changes...I do find myself behind on the tech side the longer I’m out of that arena #TnEdChat
Sorry so late to the #tnedchat , checking in from Pittsburgh, :) will keep on building new connections, stay informed, ask questions, interact more with Ss and learn about their interests
A4: Learn from others who are keeping relevant, exploring @ASCD professional learning opportunities, attending conferences, and listening to and observing relevant practices and perspectives. #TnEdChat
A3 I definitely see time being a barrier and myself a bit too, taking on too much, but hard to pass opportunities by and so sometimes overextending myself happens #tnedchat
A4: Continue to exercise servant leadership principles. Putting my folks at the forefront and implement change through inclusive decision making. #tnedchat
A5 A ton of new books to read, podcasts, my @voxer PLN, twitter chats, and maybe most importantly, the feedback from my Ss from last year to help me make some changes this year, #tnedchat
A5: My best resources are people. My #PLN members are amazing. They give me feedback. They speak the truth in love. They keep me grounded, challenge me, & help me #becomebetter every day. The fact that I get so see many of them F2F in my own backyard is an added bonus. #TNedchat

A5) #tnedchat
My favorite new (to me) resource is Slack. Our @VWeLabs Specialists and @PEF_Policy are crushing it on their. Authentic community. Real questions, real answers, real support.

Q5: Twitter, listservs, edtech leaders like this group and more focus on LinkedIn this year. Local resources like the 4th floor at the public library and the Edney building have been invaluable to me! #TNEdchat
I have really smart friends. (That's y'all) And they share their knowledge, thank goodness. And a big stack of books to read. I'm on #4 of 13. And a belly full of passion and excitement always helps. #TNedchat
A5: The more I think about the latest and greatest thing--The more I appreciate people. It's all about people. It's not about me. It's about learning from others. It's about our learners. I think experience definitely deepens my appreciation for others every single day. #TNedchat
A5: Inspiration and collaboration with colleagues. The vehicles are not as significant as the impetus to drive the learning. Many of the “old tools” are finding new relevance to me. #TnEdChat
A6 if I can't help then I try to connect with PLN, sometimes even the students are ready to help with tech issues, and I definitely recommend reaching out on Twitter #tnedchat
A6: I'm so lucky to have a competent team or professionals that whose main ambition is to help, teach and also learn from every opportunity they are provided. For IT, every helpdesk ticket should be a learning experience! Every day is a school day! #TNedchat
A6 https://t.co/v0zbxnK07d just kidding. I hope to be that person at our school! Being more willing and able to help or be the go-between to get whatever assistance colleagues or students need! #TnEdChat
