The #TXLchat provides a forum for Texas librarians (but not limited to Texas librarians) to create collaborative connections, share educational resources, and foster life-long learning.
I think it's important for school librarians to tell their story during #slm18 and all year. We need to celebrate our work and advocate for school libraries in general. #txlchat

Question 2: How can librarians share the importance of School Library Month with their students, teachers, administrators, and community leaders?#txlchat
A2 Sometimes I put little notes and treats in teachers’ boxes, or give out candy when students check out books. We’ve also had it as a banner on our district website. #txlchat
A2: Use the monthly calendar of events the School Library Month committee created to help showcase your school library. School librarians could celebrate one activity a day, or one activity a week, or create one long-lasting activity for the month! #txlchat#AASLslm#slm18@aasl

A3: Making Learner Connections →
Using new book acquisitions, host a book tasting for students and educators → this could be planned and organized by student volunteers.
#txlchat#AASLslm#slm18@aasl
A3: it would be awesome to host an open house type event with makerspace items out to try and comfy reading areas for families to check out books together...however it’s STAAR season 😢 #txlchat
A3: Making Educator Connections →
Provide #15minutePDs during educator meetings or invite educators to the library (provide snacks). Showcase library resources and potential collaborative projects. #txlchat#AASLslm#slm18@aasl
A3 Not necessarily just for @slm18 but including "College Success Starts @ Your Library" in your signature increased awareness throughout the year. #txlchat

Even parents need to know! Go outside and meet & greet. Maybe create a parent flyer to hand out at dismissal.. my top tips for reading with your kids or something like that. Invite them to stop in if you do parent check outs. Break down some book barriers. #txlchat
Q4: I like the idea about posting statistics...so I will do that and just continue to advocate for my program by continuing to tweet/blog about the awesome things going on #txlchat
A4 Having a new book order due in around the start of April is another way to generate excitement. I’m on the lookout for my @FollettLearning boxes! #txlchat
A4: Starting our first ever ebook check out center (yay!!!!), thanking and highlighting colleagues who are doing collaborative projects with us, and having a board where anyone in the community can write what they love about their library! #txlchat
A4: I plan on hanging the stats and facts again this year, plus have book giveaways, contests, challenges, and invite a new teacher to co-teach with me. #slm18#txlchat
Definitely using the #AASLslm calendar as a guide. I love showcasing stats, perhaps with I love my school library because... around them. Also inviting teachers and admin into the library. Using social media to communicate happenings. #txlchat
A4: Displaying new books, bookmark making workshop (hosted by student volunteers), Jason Reynolds book raffle, and hosting a Greenlight Book Fair! #txlchat#AASLslm#slm18@aasl
A4 Step 1 will be to collaborate with my district library team to come up with great ideas! #wearebettertogether Providing a united front to show the strengths of our library program as a district and what we can offer our families #txlchat
It is always a big hit, and our art teacher gets involved. I copy off the winning bookmark onto cardstock in b/w and every student gets one. #slm18#txlchat
A5: incorporating library/literacy into all activities and making it part of the school culture...still working on this but it’sa goal year round #txlchat
A5 The first step to promoting is to avoid assumptions. I shared a couple of research-oriented Chrome extensions with a very tech-savvy AP Seminar/Eng Lang teacher. I was sure he’d already know, but they were new to him and his students. #txlchat
A3 we are starting a book/writing club. Late Night @ the Cube (we call library). I am sponsoring, but #chs_lions graduate who happens to also be published author @MistyGH_ & also works for the local police is going to be helping me to support. Talk about home grown! #txlchat

A5: Continue to serve our school communities in any way we can! Make the library a place they want to be! Continue to support our educators & learners! #txlchat#AASLslm#slm18#cisdlib@CISDlib
A5: Host events, provide PDs, connect with student learners, collaborate with educators, maintain social media accounts for the school library! Keep the school community invested, involved, and updated! Be active! #LeadOutLoud! @nycsla@NYCDOEOLS@aasl#txlchat#AASLslm#slm18
Special thanks to the 2018 School Library Month Committee: Jillian Ehlers Chair, Shannon DeSantis, Cynthia Alaniz, Hattie Garrow, Michelle Cooper, Denise Tabscott, Katie Williams, Cathy Pope & Jen Habley Thank you @CassieJanda & @StarrReadnRun for moderating #txlchat
A5: I send out monthly newsletters via @SmorePages to the Ts and admin at my campus to let them know what collaborative lessons, projects, #Makerspace etc... has happened that month #txlchat
A3 also thinking about PD pop-ins during SLM18 for teachers to learn bite-size professional learning info about different ideas. Going to have takeaways and post ideas for everyone who can’t make it. #txlchat
Suggest you start now getting Library Displays ready for April's School Library Month. Every month I made sure to highlight the special events & celebrations of that time. My Library Displays page https://t.co/dldg6vbRuR#txlchat#tlchat#edchat
A5 social media, newsletters, impromptu conversations! A small goodie in your teachers box as a thank you. Make yourself visible... leave a little trail of that library fairy dust every where you go. #txlchat
I'm loving the idea of integrating @flipgrid into the #slm18 celebration. I'm also inspired to start up mobile checkouts again, perhaps in the cafeteria. Used to do hallway checkout during testing, but it has been a while. #txlchat
A5: Advocating for our libraries is in everything we do. Our everyday exchanges, readers advisory, our collaborative projects, teaching, the committees we serve on, our support we give to our students, and what we share on social media. 😊 #txlchat
Yes, be involved in all parts of the school! I get to know my colleagues so much better through committees and attending activities/events, even if they're not "library" related. #txlchat
