Hello! AnnMarie here from Wisconsin, a fourth grade teacher and proud Packers fan! I will be joining in about 8:30 after Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban read aloud time with my daughter. #tlap
Welcome to #tlap!!! It's the #SuperBowl After-Party edu-pirate style! Let us know who you are, where you are from, and your favorite commercial of the night.
Hi #tlap!! I'm Dave from San Diego. Lots of favorites...but going to go with Peter Dinklage vs Morgan Freeman rap battle! Missed it? Check it here: https://t.co/yVvvPBA4W5
MS is a weird time for Ss. They tease each other because they are unsure if themselves and think making other kids feel bad about themselves will make them feel better. Today’s #kindness189 challenge is to think of a MS challenge and share it with the twitter world #tlap#leadlap
I'm Brianne, a high school instructional coach from Houston. I loved the Doritos commercial and the first responders one #HoustonStrong So many heart strings commercials this year! #tlap
Hello. My name is Susan, and I am a pre-service teacher from IL currently student teaching. I did not watch the super bowl. I was grading papers. :) #tlap
Welcome to #tlap!!! It's the #SuperBowl After-Party edu-pirate style! Let us know who you are, where you are from, and your favorite commercial of the night.
Good evening! Abe, Asst. Principal in NC. The game was actually better than the commercials this year! However, the Morgan Freeman rap battle was epic! #tlap
Hi! My name is Emma McInerney I am a Elementary Education major at Dakota State University, and my favorite commercial was the NFL Dirty Dancing with Eli and OBJ.#tlap
Hi #tlap! Lisa, K-6 teacher librarian from Superbowl-winning Philadelphia!!! Multi-tasking tonight but will try to be present! Fave commercial had to be Dirty Dancing... love!
MS is a weird time for Ss. Can I get an Amen? They are figuring out who they are and tend to put others done to make themselves fell more confident about themselves. What is a #kindness180 challenge MS Ss can do for each other? #tlap#leadlap
YES!!! #tlap time is here. Melissa, 7th Grade Science, from Upstate NY reading to set sail on the sea of awesomeness!!! I still want the budweiser horses to come back!
I’m Ambur from Indiana! I’m a third grade teacher.... my favorite #SuperBowlLII commercial had to be Eli and Odell having the time of their life! If that’s not in next season’s touchdown celebration I’m gonna be dissapointed! #tlap
Today used to be my favorite day to teach (when I taught business econ). We spent the whole time discussing why the commercials were effective or not effective. #tlap
Hillary, Reading specialist from VA. Tie between Peter Dinklage v. Morgan Freeman rap battle and Odell Beckham Jr. + Eli Manning’s Dirty Dancing segment. #tlap
A1 this year I decided I would do a passion project with my students each semester, Working along side my students have helped to make sure what I do was worthwhile for my students #tlap
Kam joining #tlap from cold and snowy Montana where I am a special educator of 20+ years at the middle school level and the proud new great aunt to this precious baby boy!!
Q1: This one is based on a great #superbowlsnaps from pirate principal, @JayBilly2 !! Iconic commercial moment from last night. How do you and your colleagues inspire leaps of faith? #tlap
@burgessdave hi, sue joining from Alaska. I loved the commercial that traced the Olympic skier from early childhood to present day and it showed how her odds of winning increased as she continued to practice & persevere! #tlap shoutout to @TaraMartinEDU & #superbowlsnaps
Q1: This one is based on a great #superbowlsnaps from pirate principal, @JayBilly2 !! Iconic commercial moment from last night. How do you and your colleagues inspire leaps of faith? #tlap
A1. As of late I’ve been trying to demonstrate and encourage others to be courageous. So often we operate based on what we fear rather than what we hope. I choose courage! #tlap
Love passion projects! So great! We are starting Olympics Makerspace passion projects with Gr5 and diving into Animal themed passion projects in Gr1. So fun! #tlap
A1 our building is improving at this everyday we take risks build relationships with Ss, teachers are starting to talk about what a growth mindset is with students and looking at incorporating genius hour. #TLAP
A1. To inspire the leap of faith, we first build the climate necessary for innovation, we make sure everyone has the knowledge necessary, we create the opportunity for innovation and Specifically and intentionally coach through the growth. #tlap
A1: @ToddRisser, @misskoplin, and I regularly talk about things we are doing in class and encourage each others to take those leaps. Our morning and/or afternoon conversations have been vital for me in risk taking. @HistoryislifeDC has also helped me find innovative strats! #tlap
Q1: This one is based on a great #superbowlsnaps from pirate principal, @JayBilly2 !! Iconic commercial moment from last night. How do you and your colleagues inspire leaps of faith? #tlap
#TLAP A1) I think the biggest way to take a leap of faith with colleagues is to always to do a debrief afterwards. After a new lesson we do 1) Best moment 2) Worst moment 3) Things we would do differently next time
A1: Establishment of a school culture in which innovation is expected and risks are supported! We believe in the power of yet! We fail forward, together! #tlap
Q1: This one is based on a great #superbowlsnaps from pirate principal, @JayBilly2 !! Iconic commercial moment from last night. How do you and your colleagues inspire leaps of faith? #tlap
A1: We take them ourselves, and we admit when we try something new! My kiddos watched me struggle through changing my station rotation today and kept encouraging me when I felt frazzled ❤️ #tlap
Q1: This one is based on a great #superbowlsnaps from pirate principal, @JayBilly2 !! Iconic commercial moment from last night. How do you and your colleagues inspire leaps of faith? #tlap
A1 focus on those relationships. Leaps of faith are a lot less scary when you’re surrounded by an incredible support system. Support, encourage, and push #tlap
A1: I’m surrounded by an incredible team that models risk taking daily!! We don’t embrace fear & refuse to take NO for an answer! We support each other’s crazy ideas & strive to making our ed dreams a reality since it’s what’s best for our Ss! #tlap
A1b: Also a big shout out to @ERobbPrincipal and @KGT_Educator for building a climate where risk taking is encouraged! I really value the time I can bounce ideas off of them and their support as I enact them in class! #tlap
A1: A teacher I work with (@JLSnyder67) is so kindhearted, and she always gives me feedback and suggestions. She is helping me keep my head above water and helps me focus on what is the most important- the Ss. I am not afraid to take risks because of teachers like her. #tlap
A1: Giving Ts the flexibility & freedom to try new things in the classroom & take chances; not being afraid of the outcome because engagement & creativity is blossoming! #tlap
A1: I have an awesome coworker that believes in everyone no matter what. She is the most positive person I know and she always takes the leap of faith with me with projects and instills this attitude in our students too! #tlap#positivity
A1: We encourage risk taking on our campus because even if the lesson flops there is learning there too! Try a new technology app, a new presentation style, a new environment. Take a risk, reflect of it's effectiveness, use that to make future decisions. Grow from failure! #tlap
A1: @lynzhite and I are always the ones who go out on a limb and try new things. Sometimes people think of us as crazy, but every now and then we spark their interest :) #tlap
A1 Encourage don't discourage. Be supportive and hold back criticism until it is asked for. Wrongly timed criticism can take the wind out of anyone's sails. #tlap
Q1: This one is based on a great #superbowlsnaps from pirate principal, @JayBilly2 !! Iconic commercial moment from last night. How do you and your colleagues inspire leaps of faith? #tlap
A1: we collaborate and benefit from the open conversations and jumping in, reflection together, and I try to encourage through blogging/vlogging to show how ideas have developed in my classroom and ways they can be used. Wall start somewhere and grow #tlap
Q1: This one is based on a great #superbowlsnaps from pirate principal, @JayBilly2 !! Iconic commercial moment from last night. How do you and your colleagues inspire leaps of faith? #tlap
A1: Don't pull just the carpet out from under them. Be there to support them and prepare them to take that leap. Teamwork, Ed Coaches, & supportive leadership #tlap
A1: A tangible way is joining others in the @wcsdistrict district and community to read The Innovator's Mindset by @gcouros to push our thinking together! @CreativeWotown#tlap
A1: Definitely by modeling, but also by creating opportunities for them and then standing back to give them room to leap. They must know they will trust the catch, but they still must make the leap. #tlap
A1: Trying new ideas, thinking outside the box. It's ok if the new idea doesn't work; what can we do to tweak it?
Not saying "we've always done...."
#tlap
A1: team collaboration. Work together to help one another become successful inside and outside the classroom. Give each other creative ideas and different strategies to use #watlap#tlap
A1: Don't pull just the carpet out from under them. Be there to support them and prepare them to take that leap. Teamwork, Ed Coaches, & supportive leadership #tlap
A1: we utilize a pineapple chart and people post what they are doing and we go see awesome things happening in other rooms! Using twitter to celebrate amazing moments! Being in a staff that’s like a family is awesome! I love my work family! #tlap
A1: By sharing successes and opening up about failures. The successes can be adapted to other classrooms and sometimes the failures can be turned into successes by having others tweak the execution. Collaborative reflection. #tlap
Coming in a little late. I’m Debb Adams, a middle school theatre teacher from South Carolina. I paid attentionto the commercials AND the game. Unusual. My favorite was the Toyota commercial with all the different faith leaders. #tlap
A1. Taking risks and lead by example. We need to model behavior for our Ss that we would like them to attempt. If we fail, we problem solve with Ss to figure out what went wrong and redo. #tlap
YES! Don't overwhelm them and leave them. Build those relationships and encourage! Also remember that everything we do doesn't work for every class. Make sure you help them envision THEIR goals. #tlap
A1: Don't pull just the carpet out from under them. Be there to support them and prepare them to take that leap. Teamwork, Ed Coaches, & supportive leadership #tlap
Q1: This one is based on a great #superbowlsnaps from pirate principal, @JayBilly2 !! Iconic commercial moment from last night. How do you and your colleagues inspire leaps of faith? #tlap
A1 I model taking leaps, then ask, "What's the worst thing that could happen?"
Usually, when we (my staff & colleagues) allow ourselves to answer that question, it isn't so bad. So...cannonball in! #tlap
✨A1: WE JUST GO FOR IT! I’m lucky to be part of a teaching team that encourages each other to try new things! Sometimes they don’t work, but we take it in stride, make adjustments, and improve our game plan! #TLAP ✨
And as a leader, constantly encourage growth and change wherever and whenever you can! Ne there to push others to take a risk. Be there to catch them when they fall so they can get up and try again #tlap
Q2: Underdogs! Cinderella story! David vs. Goliath! How have you or someone you know battled from long odds to achieve victory? What did it take? #tlap
A1:
We leap together. It’s not as frightening. If what we’re doing is too different, we still leap at the same time and still reflect together after. #tlap
A1: I have an amazing admin @JaimeHartt that I team with on #discosmhs that supports my crazy ideas and inspires me to take big leaps! Love her energy & positivity! She rocks! #tlap
A1. I think it’s high time educators to take a leap of faith in examining their philosophies and beliefs. So often we adopt mandates as our belief system and forego our why because it doesn’t “count”. #tlap
A2: I tend to always be the underdog, but I can say the same about a friend of mine. He was told he wouldn't be a teacher and had low test scores. He now holds his Ph.D. and is very successful. #tlap
A1: Put whatever supportive systems in place that will encourage or support individual risk taking. Some need us to stand alongside them, some need a push from behind, some need a process to help them along. We try to do whatever it takes. #tlap
A2)
When I jumped into #xplap in my class at first I was looked at as crazy but then as it took off and students talked more and more people wanted to see what was happening and teachers have started to want to dabble as well #tlap
A2: I am encouraged and in awe of @tomkaz10 for his work to provide deep learning with our staff to shift our practices and thinking with great math instruction! #tlap
A2 I have some teachers that were scared of twitter and now they are starting to chat and reach out to grow their PLN as well as tell their stories. We were so far from this 3yrs ago and we continue to build and grow every single day #TLAP
A2: I personally had a nerve disease right after my college kiddo was born. I was told that 10% of people with it could recover fully. My Dr. & I were determined to make me one of that 10% , * we did. Physical therapy + new treatments. We did it. #tlap
#tlap A2 At times in our past we have ALL been riding a donkey trying to win the Derby. GRIT is know you won't win, BUT YOU FINISH THE RACE! Teaching your Ss to do this is HUGE!
Q2: Underdogs! Cinderella story! David vs. Goliath! How have you or someone you know battled from long odds to achieve victory? What did it take? #tlap
#TLAP Using social media with students & also embracing their phones as an educational tool at a time when others didn’t allow them to be out. Our job to model & teach responsibility
We have to encourage mistakes. Can you have a leap of faith and fall on your back? I think you take a leap of faith, which takes courage, but it takes character when you fall and get back up. #tlap
A2: Saw one of my former students who is 1) a true Dad, not just a father 2) Part-owner of a sheet rocking business and 3) Overcame all sorts of unimaginable odds to achieve both those things! #tlap
A2: I've had classes of underdogs, Ss group on purpose for extra support but with the same high expectations and encouragement, they alway rose to the occasion! It takes patience, flexibility and reflection. Can't count anyone out, not even the second string rookie! #tlap
A2: I was freshly graduated out of college with only my student teaching experience, with only one interview opportunity when @mr_tbloom took a chance on me and gave me a long-term sub job. That gave me my first professional experience as a teacher and has inspired me since #tlap
A2: It's always about putting in the work. I am in the middle of this book process and I never thought I'd get here. I never worry about being outworked #tlap
A2: Tell me i can't accomplish something and there is a decent chance I'm already scheming how to prove you wrong before your sentence is done. #tlap#Pirate#OhReally???
A2: seeing Ss not giving up and growing each day through support of other Ss and Ts...when Ts say a student can't do something gives me motivation to show that student can do it! It's up to us to fight for the underdog! #tlap
A2 Im a pre service teacher and on my first prac was struggling with classroom management and wanted to give up. My mentor T gave me some great advice and a Kagan book, the next day I taught the best lesson in Math, it was one of many. #tlap
A2: As a college student I feel as if I am always the underdog when walking into a cooperating classroom, but when I take the time to prepare quality lesson plans and come in with enthusiasm. I feel more confident.#tlap
Welcome to #tlap!!! It's the #SuperBowl After-Party edu-pirate style! Let us know who you are, where you are from, and your favorite commercial of the night.
A1 Relentless trust echoed in the core of the culture. Celebrate and acknowledge those who step out of beat to serve and support kids. Let everyone know and feel that we are in the same Schoolhouse band together. #tlap
A2: When I started out teaching I was criticized by an administrator and actually considered leaving the profession. That experience as tough as it was has made me a stronger and better teacher. I am now the 2017 World Language Teacher of the Year for VA. Never give up. #tlap
A2: I've had classes of underdogs, Ss group on purpose for extra support but with the same high expectations and encouragement, they alway rose to the occasion! It takes patience, flexibility and reflection. Can't count anyone out, not even the second string rookie! #tlap
A2 I have some teachers that were scared of twitter and now they are starting to chat and reach out to grow their PLN as well as tell their stories. We were so far from this 3yrs ago and we continue to build and grow every single day #TLAP
A2: Currently feeling like an underdog, coming into a year halfway, with Ss that developed a class culture without me. But I have a supportive staff and principal and many outside resources, so I know I, and more important, Ss, will emerge victorious! #tlap
A2: our building has been incorporating SBL practices for the last two years. It definitely feels like we're the underdog as we try to help others see why looking at grading practices and homework policies is good for Ss and Ts #tlap
A2. Grit, Resilience, Coaching, someone to believe in them.
If your goals and dreams do not make you feel like an underdog...You are not reaching far enough. #tlap
A2 My Ss always amaze me with their resilience. So many of them have ppl who dont expect them to be successfully. Then I see them rise to the challenge and improve their behavior and academics #tlap
Q2: Underdogs! Cinderella story! David vs. Goliath! How have you or someone you know battled from long odds to achieve victory? What did it take? #tlap
A2 It took a ton of hard work, not giving up even though I wanted to and felt like I would never be successful and was in the wrong place, and it turned around bc of a professor #tlap
As a special educator, I was trained to implement Direct Instruction. When I broke the mold, my students started to become more engaged and could generalize their skills more. #tlap
A2 I was the first in my family to graduate college! Now I work with seniors to help them get into college, trade school or military. Whatever their dream is! #tlap
A1: I think our whole 5th grade team encourages each other by sharing our innovative ideas. I recently inspired a colleague to try gamification. Now her and her students absolutely love it! #TLAP
A2: I have been an underdog many times. When I was in the 8th grade, my math teacher said I was "unaccelerated." At that point, I knew I wanted to go on to become a teacher. Now, I have the same credentials as him but much more heart. #tlap
A2-Recently actually. A lot of not cool things happening. I get knocked down and pick myself back up, dust myself off, and keep pushing against those who aren't in it for the kids. There were times I wasn't sure I would make it but I refused to give up. You can't give up. #tlap
A2: After a less than favorable eval, a colleague asked for help and took a leap of faith with me into tech integration. SHE was the most surprised by her own potential. #tlap
I have always felt like an underdog! I work like the underdog, but with all the professional development I am doing, I’m starting to become the favorite. You guys have a lot to do with that! #tlap
A2: The underdog is the dark horse... the one that pushes against all odds! Empowerment... https://t.co/RA4Ufkr9ns.E G.R.I.T is the superpower to my Ss... and me! #tlap
A2: perseverance - if you want something bad enough, you have to work for it! Plus there's no greater feeling than accomplishing something you worked hard for! #tlap
A2: I lead a K-12 Health & Phys Ed Dept. Our whole mentality is that of an underdog. We have established a mission that we are teachers who teach HPE, not HPE teachers. #tlap
A2: feeling underprepared makes me feel like the underdog. Being in college makes me feel inexperienced and I have to take time to prepare myself and build up my confidence to overcome those feelings. #tlap
A2: On paper, I wouldn’t have been the #1 candidate to become our school’s next reading specialist in ‘10. I was finishing my M.Ed. while on maternity leave + I’d only taught for 5 years. But I was/am PASSIONATE about kids, literacy, my colleagues, and our school community. #tlap
Q2: Underdogs! Cinderella story! David vs. Goliath! How have you or someone you know battled from long odds to achieve victory? What did it take? #tlap
4 diff guys have worked in our garden. Others have been elsewhere on the grounds creating climbing wall/storage shed, super-sized sundial, rain barrels, exercise area, sandpit. Our schl has had great relationships w/ scouts & fams for yrs; they know we're always open! ;) #tlap
A2: As a student teacher teaching for the past 4 weeks all day and everyday due to my CT being out, I have been fighting battles, but I remain optimistic and am confident that I can make a difference. My Twitter PLN helps me achieve victory. #tlap
A2 Not sure if I took the win...but I was a terrible Ss. Not engaged in learning...that experienced has caused me to place a high priority on creating an engaging environment for learning. #tlap
A2: I’ve had many students take months or the whole year to reach their goals! It’s one of the most exciting & heartwarming parts of being a teacher-when the whole school community works together; parents, specialists, team members, & other student leaders, magic can happen #TLAP
Q2: Underdogs! Cinderella story! David vs. Goliath! How have you or someone you know battled from long odds to achieve victory? What did it take? #tlap
Sounds like a #tlap discussion that I need tonight. Felling like David vs. Goliath every day... But it is Monday, I still have 4 days to make it all work.... Ronald Fisher a 4th G. Teacher Northern Utah "leaping" in late.
A2 I have a Ss this year who has a lot of challenges to overcome related to having brain cancer as a child and he is autistic. He works so hard in my class everyday, and got an 80 last marking period! I was like a proud mama #tlap
A2: I think the biggest thing is having faith & tenacity!! You’ve got to get in the trenches & work your way out on your journey to the top of the mountain!! Believe in yourself & don’t give up! #tlap
A2: Working through a transition this year. @MapleWarriors will open w/ combo of new Ss, staff, and grade levels next year. Only keeping 2/3 of staff has been hard! Looking at it as opportunity to grow, finding creative ways to collaborate. Stay positive, be an awesomizer! #tlap
Today... kid took a quiz, made a 0!! I told him that it takes skill to get a zero. Gave him a new copy, asked him to retake it. Kid got a 22/24. He asked if he could take it home to show his mom! ABSOLUTELY! Also sent a positive postcard home about him. #kidsdeserveit
A2 Im a pre service teacher and on my first prac was struggling with classroom management and wanted to give up. My mentor T gave me some great advice and a Kagan book, the next day I taught the best lesson in Math, it was one of many. #tlap
I was observed one time student teaching and the best class in weeks went complete opposite that day! Supervisor said "it happens and you did what you needed to do." That made me feel better. Things do happen, but don't stop! #tlap
A2: I have had many students over the years who started out reading below grade level. They worked hard and found books that interested them. This enabled them to exceed grade level! #tlap
Q3: We get tackled short of the end zone many times in life. How do you take these temporary setbacks and turn them ultimately into victories? Can we teach this to kids? Model it for peers? #tlap
A2: Last year, my tutoring students seemed defeated in their school work (especially reading). By the end of the tutoring sessions, their work habits improved & attitude towards school changed. Parents were thankful for the tutoring & noticed changed in their child. #tlap
A2: I have so many. I think every time it takes patience for change to happen and persistence to never stop. There will be setbacks. There will be people who will doubt you. Don't focus on tomorrow, today has enough worry #tlap
Q2: Underdogs! Cinderella story! David vs. Goliath! How have you or someone you know battled from long odds to achieve victory? What did it take? #tlap
A2: I was so disgusted by the school I was at, that I walked away from education. Went to work for a law firm. Found my 'home' 6 months later. Now I'm helping reshape education. #tlap
Q1: This one is based on a great #superbowlsnaps from pirate principal, @JayBilly2 !! Iconic commercial moment from last night. How do you and your colleagues inspire leaps of faith? #tlap
A2: When I was at an urban school, so many people in the community would give up on our kids. But they believe in themselves and go on to greatness! #tlap
✨A2: When the way we were running our reading program appeared mixed up and blurry to our students, @DebDiToro and I called a timeout! We put our heads together and came up with a Reader’s Workshop plan that has been very successful! #TLAP ✨
A2: I struggled my entire academic career with ADHD and Dyslexia... now as I got older the dyslexia wasn’t as pronounced (unless stressed) I’ve heard my whole life I “couldn’t” do this or that. It just motivated me to work harder to prove them wrong! #tlap
A2 "At-risk" kid becomes a thriving adult-Yep, this one=the story of my life.
Not sure it is "victorious" to others, but to me--it's better than my BEST little girl dream!
One positive TEACHER relationship telling me "You CAN!"
Then, determination & heart to make it happen! #tlap
A2 I have some teachers that were scared of twitter and now they are starting to chat and reach out to grow their PLN as well as tell their stories. We were so far from this 3yrs ago and we continue to build and grow every single day #TLAP
A2:
"When they write my story
They're gonna say that I did it for the glory
But don't think that I did it for the fame, yeah"
"I am invincible, unbreakable
Unstoppable, unshakeable. They knock me down, I get up again"
https://t.co/42z4GiIebQ#tlap
A3: You know what? We all have setbacks. It's vital that students see us with our struggles. Be transparent with them. This makes you relatable & helps them to trust you more. I get in a slump sometimes and I swear, it takes everything to go forward, but I do it for my Ss. #tlap
Q3: We get tackled short of the end zone many times in life. How do you take these temporary setbacks and turn them ultimately into victories? Can we teach this to kids? Model it for peers? #tlap
A2.2: I am a little teacher from a school in the Cleveland area...I entered a contest that was a big risk for me...I took it on and I won! It's changed my perspective! #tlap
A3: That you learned and went through a lot of things that didn't work you, but you learned from it and moved on. You have to keep moving forward and learn. #tlap
A1:TRUST & BUILD trust; Inspire & BE inspiring (a powerful role model of taking risks AND ALSO doing the things that support others in doing the same) Be an Enthusiast—exuding passion & energy about the org., its goals , the work & the individual.#tlap
A3: I wasn't happy at all with how my class went last semester, I wanted to make major changes. I spent my Christmas break making it happen. Ss love the class so far. #tlap
A3 I simply ask why I was stopped, reflect on the path I took and evaluate the approach I took. We can most definitely teach Ss to do this and do it as part of our daily routine. #TLAP
A3 I start the year talking about failures. How many of us got up at 1 year old and started walking perfectly? No one. We fall down and get back up. Each time we fall down we learn what not to do! #tlap
A2: Hust having a conversationsith a former student that fits. Incredibly smart, likable. Always cast in the ensemble of our shows bc that was the fit. Came out as transgender: honors theatre, Pugsly, Peter Pan. Support at home and school. So proud of him. Being himself. #tlap
A2: My first year as Principal was very much an underdog year for me while others tried their hardest to ensure I stayed the underdog. I refused to give in to the belief. Year two, after creating the kind of culture necessary, we will come out as anything but the underdog. #tlap
Sometimes the “underdogs” in our collabs and classrooms have strengths that were forged through past struggle. The struggle changes us. David was the favorite over Goliath, depending on how you look at the circumstances. #tlap
A3: Grit. Each time we get knocked down, take a deep breath, and then get back up again. Best way to keep me going is to tell me I can't do something. I'm very oppositional defiant that way.We can also offer help to those we see knocked down. #tlap
A3: Brush the dirt off your knees and GET. BACK. UP! That line is not moving and every step forward is one less you have to take later! Keep going! It’s worth it! #tlap
Q3: We get tackled short of the end zone many times in life. How do you take these temporary setbacks and turn them ultimately into victories? Can we teach this to kids? Model it for peers? #tlap
A3- Perseverance is taking the no and finding another way to get a yes. Having real conversations with Ss about struggles and failures helps them relate and hopefully model the importance to persevere. #tlap
A3: I have definitely had frustrations at work - space between how I'd like things to be, what I can change and what's beyond my control. Learning to be the change and make the most of what I can do... Modeling that "everyone can do something" attitude! #tlap
A3: showing how I make mistakes, reflect, + grow is powerful, but some Ss need more than that. They need you to walk with them more closely through their failure + reassure them that they will make it out. Like gradually letting go of the bike a child is learning to ride #tlap
A3: there will be many bumps in the road and hills to climb, but we must keep creating those positive moments for kids and colleagues to persevere and overcome...there is lots of good in the world and people are all working hard..,#TLAP
A3: Transparency in key!! Everything isn’t always perfect!! Reflect on the journey & look for ways to improve! Make adjustments & just keep moving! The success is so much sweeter when you had to work for it! Earn in!!! #tlap
A3: We model all things to kids, and we should model perseverance in goal setting and goal attainment too. We write daily goals in my class and then assess whether we made them, need to change them, or need to keep keepin' on. #tlap
A3: We alway have to start somewhere and keep pushing to get better. Greatness is a goal that can not be achieved. Keep going. Try and get better each time #tlap
Failing forward = learning. I talk openly about my shortcomings to model determination to my students. We are role models. If we can’t show grit, who will? #tlap
Life is all about failing. My first lesson is always about how we are all losers. It doesn't matter how far you go, who you are or what you do. In everything we do, there is far more losing then winning. Look at the Superbowl, there were 31 losing teams and only one winner #TLAP
A2: I felt like an underdog my first year teaching. Everything is so new to you and your adjusting to a whole new rountine. I eventually was able to get into the swing of things but I'm still learning new things but hard work always pays off at the end of the day #watlap#tlap
A2. Breast cancer survivor - surgery last year during this school year - radiation while working- Now, you would never know;). My kids were best medicine! #tlap#Positiveattitude
A3: I broke down last week at a team meeting due to worrying about classroom management. I decided to reach out on Twitter and was uplifted by @megan_hacholski who sent me a DM. I face obstacles, but I keep going. I know my hard work will pay off. #tlap
A3 I literally tell my students the ultimate goal is a TD, yet we just need to focus on first downs. Keep driving and don't give up. Work together and run the play. #tlap
Q3: We get tackled short of the end zone many times in life. How do you take these temporary setbacks and turn them ultimately into victories? Can we teach this to kids? Model it for peers? #tlap
My co workers and I work together as a team. We rely on one another to help when in need. We have faith in one another because we all believe we are working in our purpose. #Tlap#EDA655
A2: Refocusing on purpose helps me overcome adversity. A strong sense of purpose is the most powerful of all motivations. (credit to Viktor Frankl) #tlap
A3: It comes down to GRIT and having a growth mindset! We can absolutely teach our kids and that comes from modeling it. Share your personal experiences. Then, reflect on what really happened, don't ignore it. Every setback is just the opportunity for a comeback! #tlap
A3: Setbacks are normal. Need to make sure we show our humanity to our students. We are not perfect. If there is a perfect teacher I would like to meet them. The best trick I have found is focus on the positive. Every bad situation has at least one good moment. #tlap
a3| #tlap Setbacks often elevate us into what we want to be doing. Always teach kids it's all about attitude, more than anything. As a P, educators totally spend more time with our kids than we EVER will.
Q3: We get tackled short of the end zone many times in life. How do you take these temporary setbacks and turn them ultimately into victories? Can we teach this to kids? Model it for peers? #tlap
A3: I podcast, blog, and host #waledchat to be able to discuss my wins AND my losses to show people that even after a sack, you can still score a touchdown! I also am very real with people in my building about my wins and losses and how I want to score those points! #tlap
I once observed an AP English teacher telling her class her article was rejected by a magazine! I was amazed at her ability to share her thoughts and determination to revise and resubmit it! #tlap
A3: For many Ss today, setbacks can be as simple as not knowing an answer. Need to change the paradigm so that this is seen as exciting challenge & not debilitating anxiety. #tlap
A3: I always think of Astro Teller's Ted Talk and how he discusses how they celebrate failures at X! People literally get bonuses for figuring out how to make their idea NOT work! And oh the amazing innovations that are coming out of there! #tlap
A3- Teaching/modelling perseverance and grit in a culture of high expectations will show all students that it's how you recover from a stumble that matters most #tlap
Q3: We get tackled short of the end zone many times in life. How do you take these temporary setbacks and turn them ultimately into victories? Can we teach this to kids? Model it for peers? #tlap
A3: You can always learn from your experiences, no matter what happens. Just because you didn’t succeed the first time, doesn’t mean you should give up. #tlap
A3: We are all human and get tackled sometimes. Sharing our falls helps others realize they are not alone & they can push through for the touchdown (used my bitmoji too soon, here it is again) #tlap
A3: Of course we can teach it to kiddos & others! It’s a skill that needs to be practiced & challenged. In our class, we focus on what we DID learn from a failure & how to use that info to form our next action steps!! 💪🏻 #TLAP
Q3: We get tackled short of the end zone many times in life. How do you take these temporary setbacks and turn them ultimately into victories? Can we teach this to kids? Model it for peers? #tlap
A3: I believe that setbacks allow for you to grow as a teacher. I personally take the time think about what happened and how I could fix it for the next time. I believe that if you as a teacher persevere through these setbacks that is modeling to both peers and students. #tlap
A3 every Friday lately feels like the end zone is right there, yet we don't get any points... then I stop and reflect, the journey when looking back was worth every single step (yard). We did so much! The Ss progressed, we learned... It's not all measured in points #tlap
A1: never measure success by the inches you failed to gain always look at the yards gained to measure success #tlap you never fall short of your goals. They are always within reach on the next play
A3: I’m married to a coach and hear “coachisms” all the time. One thing he always says is “minor setbacks make way for major comebacks.” Perseverance is how progress and success is achieved! #tlap
A3- Allow your time to process these setbacks and figure out what you are going to do about them. Giving up is not an option but slowing down to figure out your next steps is. Grit and determination to succeed is the key. Don't give up! #tlap
We need to share our stories of failing towards success with each other and with students... they need to see us as human and the path as doable! Inspire them to succeed through the failures they achieve! #tlap
Q3: We get tackled short of the end zone many times in life. How do you take these temporary setbacks and turn them ultimately into victories? Can we teach this to kids? Model it for peers? #tlap
A3: I'm dealing w/this right now with a student. I try to stress that he's not going to get every answer correct & win every game, etc. He has matured a lot since last year, & we still have a long way to go. #tlap
A2: Tell me I can't accomplish something, or worse that my Ss won't be able to and I won't be able to wait to prove you wrong. My Ss are always able to push through and overcome whatever life is handing them. #tlap
A3: Failure isn’t an opportunity to quit! Failure is an opportunity to learn and grow! No one remembers the one who fell down 10 times and stayed down! Champions are made from those who got knocked down and got back up to fight again! Learn and grow! #tlap
From what I can see on Twitter, you are already an amazing teacher and are leagues ahead of so many who do not invest the time and effort in a PLN or PD that you do! Keep it up - our schools need more Ts like you! #tlap
A3: Directly acknowledging mistakes and failure and talking through the process of fixing it out loud. But more importantly, showing the attitude that you are grateful for mistakes as an opportunity and not defeated by them. #tlap
A3: It comes down to GRIT and having a growth mindset! We can absolutely teach our kids and that comes from modeling it. Share your personal experiences. Then, reflect on what really happened, don't ignore it. Every setback is just the opportunity for a comeback! #tlap
A3: never measure success by the inches you failed to gain always look at the yards gained to measure success #tlap you never fall short of your goals. They are always within reach on the next play
Yes, and this is easier said than done sometimes. I broke down last week and wrote about it in my blog. Almost instantly, I received support from amazing teachers on Twitter showing me that I was not alone. #tlap
A3. We need to shae with our Ss that there will be bumps in the road that we trip over and stumble upon, we need to get back up, dust ourselves off, and try again, with each attempt we need to become more determined that were going to succeed and stay positive. #tlap
A3: I’m married to a coach and hear “coachisms” all the time. One thing he always says is “minor setbacks make way for major comebacks.” Perseverance is how progress and success is achieved! #tlap
A3 SO importent to share those struggles and failures. Everyone has them. Let’s all learn from them together and quit hiding them. Showcasing and modeling goes a long way! #tlap
A1: Team collaboration . Helping each other try new things , working together to implement new strategies and helping each other come up with creative new ideas. #watlap#tlap
Q4: One of the most talked about moments from @pepsihalftime was when @jtimberlake went into the stands at the #superbowl . Lots of happy fans. How can you create those same kind of moments for who you serve in your system? #tlap
From what I can see on Twitter, you are already an amazing teacher and are leagues ahead of so many who do not invest the time and effort in a PLN or PD that you do! Keep it up - our schools need more Ts like you! #tlap
Awesome! Do Ss even understand what it took to get where we are? Some of those stories can't be shared of course, but share the other ones. They need to know it's not an easy road, but more importantly that it's worth it. #tlap
A2: I now teach amazing students in the most incredible school district, in a most beautiful & wondrous place, after spending time substitute teaching and countless interviews. It took a while, but I found home in Saranac Lake. #tlap
Q2: Underdogs! Cinderella story! David vs. Goliath! How have you or someone you know battled from long odds to achieve victory? What did it take? #tlap
Q3: We get tackled short of the end zone many times in life. How do you take these temporary setbacks and turn them ultimately into victories? Can we teach this to kids? Model it for peers? #tlap
A3: It May sound cliche—being honest and transparent with colleagues and students. Gone are the days of the infallible teacher. Our Ss know that’s a lie. I’ll admit it’s easier for me to help others through the fails on the way to the goal than it is to help myself. #tlap
A3: Help students and staff see the big picture. It’s hard when we’re in the day to day and see life from a narrow lense. If we allow setbacks to derail our drive, we’ll never build capacity to overcome adversity. #GRIT#tlap
A3 I use to use the term debugging in k-8 computer science ...mistakes became our first attempts in learning and there were time when they had to help me fix a code #tlap@burgessdave
A3 The REALness of our experiences = amazing to share with others. It helps us related to those around us. Even the most successful have setbacks and overcome. It, also, kinda keeps us all on this sort of level playing field of life--the human playing field. 😜
#tlap
#tlap A3 You are who you are due to how you overcame your tribulations. You are forged in the valleys of life. SHARE some of these with your Ss. DO NOT teach your Ss that they are limited by their circumstances. THEY CAN OVERCOME ALL IF THEY BELIEVE!
✨A3: MAKE THE INTERCEPTION! When things aren’t going as planned sometimes you just need to grab what’s coming your way and run with it! It might not be how you had it in your lesson plans, but it can be just the game changer your students needed! #TLAP ✨
A4: The cool part of JT going into the crowd was that he was dancing as part of the crowd. We need to dance along with our Ss - figuratively AND literally. #tlap
The conversion year, the year you aren't the player anymore, and you have to transform and be the coach #LeadLAP You've got it, especially with the culture you've created. #tlap
A3 We can teach kids by example. They see us get evaluated, they see us make mistakes and have bad days. Students see that, they also see how we react to the mistakes, bad days and stress. #tlap
As a blended learning teacher I almost never stand at the front of the room or sit behind my desk. Learning amongst your students is one of the best ways to build strong relationship. They have just as much to offer you as you have to offer them. #tlap
A4: Go to a school event featuring your Ss when they know you don't HAVE to be there, and you'll get the same type of reaction as JT did last night in his performance. Every time. #tlap
A4: I try to get into classrooms as much as possible. Not only because I enjoy working with the kids, but because that's where all the real work happens! I can't coach my teachers from the locker room, I need to be on the field! I learn new things from them all the time! #tlap
A4: Show others their value! Take time to get to know them. Ask about their family. Their pets. Their passions. Take time to show you care and smile. A lot! 😊 #tlap
Q4: One of the most talked about moments from @pepsihalftime was when @jtimberlake went into the stands at the #superbowl . Lots of happy fans. How can you create those same kind of moments for who you serve in your system? #tlap
A4: Relationships, relationships, relationships! They matter! Know your Ss and parents. Our motto is “we over communicate”. #noapologies#tlap@Eric_Carlin
A4: (Only SB halftime show I have watched is @coldplay) I go on dates with my wife at restaurants in the area, I live nearby so I try shop at one of the grocery stores they go to, I go to the football games, go to concerts. And I also share my thoughts on various topics. #tlap
A4: My students have been working hard creating multimedia projects, and on Thursday we’re going to have a film festival day to watch all their hard work! Complete with awards in various categories. #tlap
A4: As a leader we need to get into the trenches, not only in moments of crisis or necessity but in the everyday grind, the happy times, make sure you lead by example, co-teach and provide ideas, we must drive passion through participation in the daily action! #tlap
Q4: One of the most talked about moments from @pepsihalftime was when @jtimberlake went into the stands at the #superbowl . Lots of happy fans. How can you create those same kind of moments for who you serve in your system? #tlap

A4: SO important! I love connecting with Ss- on their level. Chatting about life, books, music - and of course our Eagles! They see me as "real" and it allows me to get to know the "real" them! Could be the end of class, a quick exchange in the hall... anytime anywhere! #tlap
It takes a village to raise a student teacher! I blogged about my experience, and what I learned as a guide teacher. #suhsd#tlaphttps://t.co/sTQjovCIBw
A4: This is something I always want to do but between teaching, parenting, coaching soccer, leading Girl Scouts, working on my National Boards, working at a winery & spending a few minutes with my husband, I don't have much time for getting to community events. #tlap
Unfortunately I have to run! My boys and I have a reading date in my living room that's supposed to start now. 😉 Thanks for a great chat @burgessdave#tlap
JT was a great example of being fully immersed. I believe that as a teacher you need to be able to put aside any distractions, and get involved with your students. #tlap
A4 it’s all in the little moments - the story you take the time to listen to, how you remember to ask about something special that happened over the weekend, the time you take to play with your students... they matter & they should feel it! 💜 #tlap
A4: I'm always trying to be where my Ss are. Playing at recess and during morning bins. Going to as many school events and family functions as I can! (: #tlap
A4 By doing the unexpected at times and also being available, time to connect with Ss, Ts, get to know one another, make time to build those relationships, so important #tlap

@burgessdave, @PepsiHalftime, @jtimberlake
A4) Listen and challenge. Have Ss identify a problem locally, nationally and international. Look for themes in their answers and ask how are we going to fix it? It is pretty amazing where students will take you #tlap#socialjustice
A4: My children play rec league sports, & Ss are on various teams. Ss are excited when they see me at a function outside of school.
I've even been invited to Ss birthday parties. #tlap

I agree! I heard a number of @McCordMiddle staff members attended a basketball game over the weekend! It meant a lot to the parents and student athletes! #tlap
A3: Everyone is allowed to make mistakes. Its how we persevere through those times that we find our strength. We must be able to make peace with our setbacks to be able to help our peers and teach our students from our experiences. #EDA655#tlap
A4: Planning fun for the sake of fun. Even if it’s just a couple minutes, the shared laughter and silliness can help build relationships completely free of academic demands, that can really pay off when you ask them to do something they will struggle with. #tlap
A4: I’m in early elementary so I GET ON THE FLOOR WITH THEM, I play soccer with them at recess, I learn their dance moves (just mastered the dab), and I listen to them so I know what they want out of THEIR education—today they got to pick their HW for the week 🙌🏻 #TLAP
Q4: One of the most talked about moments from @pepsihalftime was when @jtimberlake went into the stands at the #superbowl . Lots of happy fans. How can you create those same kind of moments for who you serve in your system? #tlap
A4 You stop at a students' desk and really read their body language, you sense what they need and for a brief moment you connect - you let them know that they can do it, you've got their back. #TLAP
#tlap A4 One of the stories in my book is about how I was the kid who was called names every day during 5th and 6th grade. I read this story to my Ss on #ReadAcrossAmerica day. THIS IS A HUGE MOMENT IN MY RELATIONSHIP BUILDING WITH MY SS. They KNOW I have walked in their shoes.
A4: I had students create flipgrids, and I plan on replying to each student with a video. When I said I would do that, my Ss got so excited. I want them to see me as a teacher who genuinely cares and someone who is willing to take risks at times. #tlap
A4: I try to get into classrooms as much as possible. Not only because I enjoy working with the kids, but because that's where all the real work happens! I can't coach my teachers from the locker room, I need to be on the field! I learn new things from them all the time! #tlap
A4. The key is to roll your sleeves up, sit right down with your Ss and learn with them, get your hands messy, do projects right beside them. You travel around the room doing things with your Ss. #tlap
Q4: One of the most talked about moments from @pepsihalftime was when @jtimberlake went into the stands at the #superbowl . Lots of happy fans. How can you create those same kind of moments for who you serve in your system? #tlap
A4: I’ve done home visits & love going to extracurricular events!! Supporting my kids outside the classroom strengthens our relationships & helps me connect w/ their families! I also love going into other Ts classrooms & supporting their practice! #tlap
A3 Jumping in late but here I am! PK-6 Principal! I love failing foward! I share with my staff areas that I need to improve on as a leader! Take each challenge as an opportunity. ♡ This video https://t.co/XXlqILr2uI#FailureismyFuel#SecrettoVictory#TLAP
Q3: We get tackled short of the end zone many times in life. How do you take these temporary setbacks and turn them ultimately into victories? Can we teach this to kids? Model it for peers? #tlap
A4: In the past week, I’ve read to classes, stocked the fridge, mopped the floor, went on a virtual field trip. It is important to me to be a participant rather than a spectator. #tlap#leadlap
A4. Sit on the floor with your Ss (interchangable with Ts if an administrator). Plan with them. Solve problems in a collaborative way. Don't talk TO them talk WITH them. #tlap
Q4: One of the most talked about moments from @pepsihalftime was when @jtimberlake went into the stands at the #superbowl . Lots of happy fans. How can you create those same kind of moments for who you serve in your system? #tlap
A4: ahhhhh immersion! Making those connections one conversation and selfie at a time! It may seem insignificant at the time but you never know when you’re creating a lifetime memory for that kid! #tlap
A4: Proud of our @wcsdistrict for conducting "KindleWalks" by encouraging district leaders to visit classrooms to better see the great things happening in our schools! #tlap
A4: by always being there for the students! If they ask me to go to their games, plays, concerts - I'll go! Little do they know that it makes my day a million times better when I see how excited they are that I'm there for them. ☺️ #tlap

A4. It’s all about engagement. Listen to what kids say and don’t say. Attend their extracurriculars and communicate with their parents/guardians routinely so you can wrap them with support. #tlap
A4: Being present and available for staff and students. Not allowing the managerial “stuff” to supersede true leadership. Listening and being responsive. #tlap
My wife walks around the recess yard with her students (my wife loves her @fitbit and is always getting to 10,000) and her students enjoy the time with her too! #tlap
A4: I think I try to keep it real all the time. FOR REALS. Honestly, I am at so many extra curricular events. Probably shouldn't do this but I have given many student's rides home. I have become good friends with many families. I have developed trust with families. #tlap
A4: I also send positive emails to parents as a student teacher and nominate students for positive office referrals. I am all for showing my students that I see them, notice them, and care about them. #tlap
A4: first you have to learn where they're at to connect with them where they are! Build that knowledge through relationships! Need to attend events and be active in all aspects of their learning!

Q5: Sometimes (many times!) we are our own harshest critics and fill our heads with negative self-talk. How can we ensure that we help others see their truly amazing selves? Hold up that mirror of positivity! #tlap
Q4:
Although I only have 50 mins a day for a semester, it is important for me to take time and just talk with my classes. Build those relationships. At ballgames, showing up for concerts, talking at lunch. And being sincerely happy to see them when I’m out and about. #tlap
A4: I believe in this community and wanted to become a part of it, so last fall my husband and I moved to a new home 37 seconds from our school! He coaches 🏀 + ⚾️, I lead a Girl Scout Troop. We became a part of the community. #tlap

A4 I try to make it to at least a few of their sporting events and asking about their lives outside of school. Even enjoying some recess time or saying hello in the lunch room makes a difference! #tlap
A4- I’m here to serve my 4th graders and they know I’m right there with them every day. I support them in and out school with extracurricular activities and work hard to build trust that allows them to connect and just be themselves when they walk in the room #tlap

A4: Don't be afraid to express your emotions. Here is a post about a time I broke down in front of my kids... too be REAL it almost happened again today.
Sometimes you need a good cry.
https://t.co/zaMI5RxDPt#tlap
Or when they feel comfortable approaching you with their problems... They just need direction and perspective, buy only if you have built that relations like you outlined laughing and working together. #tlap
A5: Start with being aware of how they may be feeling through body language. Take time to listen and be present. Know where they are coming from and meet them there. Support sometimes is just an ear to listen. #tlap
A4: I recently attended a student’s basketball game on the weekend. Showing up for them outside of class can make them show up for themselves in class! #tlap
A1: This is only my 2nd year as a FT teacher so I’m still learning our school culture, but from what I’ve seen, simple compliments and reminders that failure is part of the process have helped us “step out in faith” #tlap
I called every parent this year during first week of school. Some parents didn't know how to respond responses " Your not calling to tell me my student isn't doing well? Wait, Your actually calling just to tell me what they are doing right?" #tlap
A5: Continue to share the greatness of all those around you by tweeting, sharing in newsletters, and giving out #LeadLAP anchors whenever possible #tlap

✨A4: IMPACT THEIR GAME! You can positively impact your students and assist them in being successful in and out of school by showing them that you care! Don’t teach from the sidelines, get in the game! #TLAP ✨
A5: Today, and many days, @ParkeratPark was my mirror holder! I am better at encouraging others than I am encouraging myself. But everytime I stop by her room, I get a pep talk and a reminder that what I do matters. Coworkers that become true friends are the best Thank you! #tlap
A4 I live in a small town, so I run into Ss even outside my house! But truly, I start many classes with ?s, from serious to silly just to see what's on their minds. And if I know something is going on--issues at school, in town, I ask them how they're doing #tlap
A5: A former boss out of education keeps up with what I do & lets me know that he truly sees me. Former parents help remind me of the good things. My first kids, who are now 24, remind me all the time of my impact & their memories. Very lucky to have many mirror holders. #tlap

A5: Sometimes I think the answer must be drugs. How can some teachers always be so positive? I think the truth is I have found that the less I talk about the bad, and there is plenty, the less crappy I feel at the end of the day. There is so much out of our control. #tlap
A2: my 14 year old SPED S did a 180 about 3/4 of the way through last year. He kept bragging about how he just worked hard and worked hard and worked hard. Then, he presented a quarterly exhibition in front of a leading member of our county board of education & wowed her. #tlap
#tlap A5 My wife @AngelaToups is my "Mirror Holder" She keeps me grounded and encourages my unique zeal to reach my Ss. She is a lucky math teacher @PollyRyonMS

You should be able to find some positive in one of 3 areas, passion for kids, for content, or for yourself. If one is running low on a specific day, draw from a different pool #tlap
A4: Connecting EVERYDAY- in ways they love; Attend their co-curricular activities (sports, art shows, contests, et al) Catch them "off guard" -dance with them, play w/them during recess (even if their in HS!) Tell your stories. Learn THEIR "culture". #tlap
