A6: Time. Much easier to jump on Twitter and learn from everyone chatting.
R6: Vulnerability, scary 2 put yourself out there, admit u don't know, break out of the isolation of trying to figure it out alone
You inspire me with group texts.

Yes!! Now that has been life-changing!!! Same here!!
R6: Pride, being afraid to say "I don't know."
R6: I think that resources and time limit is from connecting. Some working environments limit connectivity.
, oh yeah, Free tech for Teachers on Facebook, forgot that on my list! Good one
R5 I learn something new here every week
R6) I think biggest hurdle for me is time, to be honest. Only so many hours in day for work, family, rest.
Many Ts I meet are scared to tweet, say they have nothing to contribute. Ts don't always realize how powerful their voice can be.
A6: Self-doubt. I'm so good at worrying that what I have to contribute won't be good enough.
I always thought the model was cool - run it for non-testing students on a testing day.
Ditto. Couldn't have said it better! https://t.co/u1UV0PyLLG
R6: Vulnerability, scary 2 put yourself out there, admit u don't know, break out of the isolation of trying to figure it out alone
R6 The lack of effort or the flat out refusal to adapt your teaching to the 21st century
I have you blocked on Twitter. I missed it.
Happy to share anything. The date is May 20th. Finalizing the topics now... Ts are incredible
R6 Many stopped by time, but tech makes that less an issue. Others afraid they don't have anything to offer. Some are just shy.
R6: Initiative Overload. There's just too much stuff out there, you can get buried too fast with the newest this or that!
R6: The teacher's schedule doesn't lend itself to collaboration.
Our paths will cross some day soon - we're practically neighbors! Thanks for the kind words Chantell! :)
R6 Time mainly and appropriate opportunities
That is a real fear for many - I wrote a blog talking about that idea - maybe this will help https://t.co/8SzM42gQyo
R6."You don't know what you don't know" That is why its important to connect to new viewpoints
R6: Honestly for me it's time. Four young kids to run everywhere plus extra prof work. That's why I love late chats on Twitter!
Yes! Our goal each year is to tackle just one or two major initiatives, and do them well. Any more, and it's too much!
Time is a huge factor!! Finding balance... Always work g on this!!
R6.2: Sometime it is just a simple lack of understanding of how easy it is to connect
R6. I didn't know how great social media could be used for PLN until I went to years ago.
R6) Time! It is hard to find time to network amongst so many other obligations. It's important to make time to connect!
So how do you start a Twitter convo for a district. I want to do this for my district but really have no clue where to start
This is so true! Especially in a cross-curricular setting at the secondary level.
Wow! How important is this?! We need more creative scheduling for teachers.
you are SO good enough! Your experience has value.
Q6 biggest hindrance is time. So much good stuff there, and am sure I miss even more when I can't check in. Could spend hrs/night
- need purposeful times set aside and supported for collaboration and research.
A6: Sometimes the urgent takes precedent over the priorities.
R6.2: Time!Who has enough time to sort through everything, and learn enough to be proficient? As soon as you do, it's outdated! :(
R6. Ts have many commitments. Sometimes we simply have to choose what we can and should prioritize.
Well-said! https://t.co/aCjgL3QN1a
R6."You don't know what you don't know" That is why its important to connect to new viewpoints
Definitely. It's almost impossible when you're in separate areas of the building too.
R6
I find that a lot of people think connecting is just one more thing they have to do... and so don't do it.
You're in Pike you said? Wayne here - would love to share ideas with you.
I always figure we will make time for what we make important - if we don't see value it is easy to let go
that's right-genyes was my bible! I was so grateful for your leadership in the work.
We really do. It has to be a conscious effort of the entire school though.
Chat with . She's a rock star in our district and I'm sure could help you tremendously.
If u change too many things at once, u don't know what is making change happen - keep the variables low
Thanks! I think the fear is real for lots of T's. Even more so when it comes to teaching with tech. Fear is powerful.
I'm sure people try & protect us too, but it seems like you get used 2 one thing, & then comes along!
R6 Ts need time and $ to attend conference PDs that turn into PLNs like or
R6 Sometimes I can be my own worst enemy-self doubt have to push beyond comfort level and connect.
Contact . Our really started to grow. Includes staff at all levels & students https://t.co/p4nTFmW2ia
So how do you start a Twitter convo for a district. I want to do this for my district but really have no clue where to start
Yes! Think that's where creative scheduling could help.
R6. It also helps when admins place value on online collaboration. Sometimes we have to nudge Ts there so they see potential!
Q7 If you’re here, you believe all of us are smarter than any one of us. How can you help others embrace this concept in learning?
R6 TIME... prioritizing our own learning and believing that we have contributions to make in others' learning
R6: Sometimes I think the best predictor of success is a partner in crime. Someone else in the bldg to help get the ball rolling.
As a science teacher, I totally support this method haha. Tell my students this all the time in the lab!
Until we're not tied to such strict testing, I don't see that happening. Unfortunately. We will see though!
I try to set time limits each day to make it manageable and form better habits - i.e. 20 minutes of reading eah day
Perhaps state legislators should take heed of this. *ahem*
A7: Believe it starts with creating time and space for Ts and others to talk. This takes planning.
Our admin set very specific time for us to collaborate with each other each week. It helps immensely!
Agree. You have evaluate which changes work & when to change course! Less is more.
Would love to help, started one for our district and it is a wonderful group of people
R7: Lead the way - share your learning with others - some need to see that it is useful connecting can be - SHARE YOUR STORY!!
I can remember when the rate of change in education seemed downright glacial; now you can get whiplash. https://t.co/QBc4pvwpjB
If u change too many things at once, u don't know what is making change happen - keep the variables low
R6 Not only T. Admins need to see the advantages of PD and PLNs
absolutely! You need that first follower and having a partner in crime makes it a lot less risky to try something new
absolutely! You need that first follower and having a partner in crime makes it a lot less risky to try something new
So true!! I try to model as much as I can to inspire others to give it a try!
Self-doubt always creeping in. That's why connecting w/ positive people is so important! https://t.co/k5O7OBiuTN
R6 Sometimes I can be my own worst enemy-self doubt have to push beyond comfort level and connect.
R7 Talk it up! Share and show how connecting to those outside of your community enhances your experience as an educator
R7: Model it. Don't be afraid to speak up.
R7. As I learn new resources for learning, I share with others via social media, email, PD, conversations. Spread the knowledge
R7 a constructivist leadership model is key culture is king.
R7 Leaders must model! Proudly show off and share from your PLN and your colleagues! Also, allow time for Ts to connect!
R7- Model. Model. Support. Model. Sit beside & do it together. Celebrate. Repeat!
network= rockstars Love our great state! https://t.co/TxjS6KJAfV
R2: IU has amazing , but I honestly find I learn more from "researching" and observing teachers from around our state
Come up with the hashtag(s) and buyin from some other Ts or admins. Check out for a great model.
R7.2 I like to challenge others as well, especially with Twitter. I call people out, encourage them - "hey, see you tonight?"
Great point, we must make time for Ts to network locally and globally so they can see the impact https://t.co/2TAsGu5bM7
R7 Leaders must model! Proudly show off and share from your PLN and your colleagues! Also, allow time for Ts to connect!
R7: Nothing breeds interest like success: "I tried x that I learned from y and then z happened and it was good. Wanna try?"
R7 I try to model the behaviors I'd like to see in others.I talk up concepts that I know are good for teachers to learn
Be intentional with time! Yes!!!
R7) Feel like I should be paid by Twitter b/c I am always talking it up for Ts.
R7. Ts need opportunities to share their work, showcase best ideas and inspire each other. I love Commons for this!
When leaders create this time and place, they show how much they value it! Wonderful support cycle! https://t.co/nODciTfY0R
A7: Believe it starts with creating time and space for Ts and others to talk. This takes planning.
Yes, yes, yes! https://t.co/FUfnESl2lc
R7- Model. Model. Support. Model. Sit beside & do it together. Celebrate. Repeat!
R7: Some Ts may not be aware of these online communities. Creating an ownership of PD and modeling that is key.
R7 Introduce small PLNs to newbies like school and department, then district, then region, then
R6: I was lucky to participate in some great PD this year where 8 math Ts created 6 cool lessons in teams, then all used them
I'm surprised by how many don't know of Twitter Chats.
R7: The only way to grow ideas is to plant seeds with teacher leaders and reap the benefits. It must be nurtured to grow
A lot of my "tech savvy" Ts weren't aware of them. That's why it's going to be a PD topic next year!
R7. Yeah, is here! Ts at are taking turns contributing to a shared blog to showcase their ideas and growth.
R7: Start w/the people next door- Share ideas, celebrate successes, discuss failures. Big change starts with small steps.
R7-Even more powerful when Ts are inspired to lead the way as well! I had 2 who led Connected Edus book study! Sparked ideas!!
R7 Show advantages like collaboration, not recreating the wheel, support, It's not what you know, it's what hashtags you know.
Definitely takes time. Doesn't happen overnight.
Amy 9:58 Final “aha’s” to share? Another tidbit of advice you might share about your journey of learning?
I love this idea - I blog personally, and would definitely be part of this professionally.
good chat everyone... as always...
Yes!! Small steps are just the beginnings of bigger things!!
Most def. We're on a big twitter push in my building, but it took awhile for me to build a network & be connected.
If you like chats, invite a friend next week. We'll be talking about the new Computer Science standards!
WOW -- The power of connection was modeled here tonight!! Hope you all walked away with some new learning to share with others!
Great sharing and learning with all of you tonight, ! An uplifting chat for sure!
