We get a lot of RPO's that really put our over lap players in a bind. We can talk about that or tempo it up to you guys.

Brian Milan Defensive Coordinator / LB coach Bearden HS Knoxville,TN
-
Nick Stromeyer. Free agent. Aspiring college football coach once I graduate from A&M in exactly a month and a day from today
-
-
RPOs probably for me! Tempo is about conditioning and practice techniques. RPO is X and Os lol
-
ok coach first thing we do is identify who the offense is trying to put in a bind.
-
Ryan Montalvo
Rudder High School
Secondary Coach
-
-
Essentially who they are reading in their RPO package? https://t.co/sTmAH6iKpl
-
-
ok coach first thing we do is identify who the offense is trying to put in a bind.
-
we try and move the front as much as possible with changing our techniques with our DLine to cancel out gaps.
-
Alex Mondragon, 9 year OL coach in CA, now living in Chicago. Not currently with any program
-
-
how does moving and stunting the front help muddy the read for the RPO?
-
-
-
If it's 2by 2 we can run a split field coverage man side zone side... To take stress of Apex guy. https://t.co/xBkMjs7zsH

-

-
the we try to do is have a player behind he over lap player that is playing pas first to protect
-
That's good. So if the RPO the over lap end and run a slant, then you play LB in passing lane? https://t.co/SZ7jVz6ekI
-
-

-
Glen Snodgrass York Nebraska
-
exactly with slanting front allows you to play the box with 5 & overlap is 2nd threat player
-
That's a good response. Like that a lot. How do offenses typically counteract this? https://t.co/vcwTnzgwBk
-
-
exactly with slanting front allows you to play the box with 5 & overlap is 2nd threat player
-
Glen Snodgrass York Nebraska
-
biggest thing we get is people start man blocking the zone to counter act
-
What is it about 2x2 gun weak and 3x1 gun str that hurts you when defending the RPO?
-
that's why you need couple actions with 3 Tec to back and away
-
Zach Schneider Battle Ground Academy Franklin Tn
-
allows them to get 4 threats to the field and 3 to the boundary, we are always looking for 1 man advantage
-
we never want those OL guys to dig in and know what the Tec across from them is playing
-
aha, I was wondering why 2x2 weak, specifically...makes sense...do you call strength to the back or to the field?
-
100% agreed coach. Especially at HS level. Confusion is the name of the game!
-
in 10 personnel call strength to the field
-
Eddie Young, HC/OC Lajeunesse High School, Windsor, ON
-
absolutely use the backside to cancel gaps

-
really have to work with the LB's to know how this changes their reads
-
what are some drills you emphasize when facing a RPO offense that week?
-
With front side and back side of RPO? Ok. https://t.co/ouBkQ3dKnn
-
-

-
John Mitchell TE/H-Backs Midwest City HS Midwest City OK. Sorry about the late chime in fellas. What's really good??!!!
-
we rep the heck it of 1/2 line. This lets the DL see how they affect LB's & LB's to see how the affect the secondary
-
depends where you are sending your front. LBs work away from slant
-
-
how often do y'all like to go full contact in practice?
-
we never take anyone to the ground
-
a QB that can really run and wants to run zone week and be able to run the bubble or stick to the field

don't be afraid to work your tail of at any job someone gives you a lot of guys just want to be X&O guru's
-
find something no one wants to do and be the best at it
-
thank you for the advice coach. I appreciate it!
-
Pretty pumped to hear some defensive guys talk tonight considering I'm working to be an OC!Love learning what the D is lookin 4!
-
coaching is the best job love every minute
-
why did you choose the 4-2-5 over the 3-4 or 3-3, many Okie front coaches feel they can disguise better https://t.co/tpI5exL35s
-
Do you guys get RPO out of 2 back???
-
How are you handling trips, RB to trips, RB GaT with bubble RPO?
-
As an O guy I do like the idea of running true trip option RPOs like seam bubble ILB dive Invert "pitch"
-
Brian Penry, OLB, Krum HS
-
I can't wait to graduate and get in with a college program. Nothing in the world I'd rather do than be coaching
-
that's probably the hardest especially if you run a gap scheme away from trips
-
we have one out of a two back set...either give to the back for IZ, hit the FB on the bubble, or the wr fade
-
2 backs in the backfield really threatens us quicker than in 1 back
-
to be honest it's what I was taught, gotta coach what you know.
-
what are some of your go to drills for your OLB?
-
why would 2 backs hurt you worse than one considering the field isn't as spread?
-
what is it about 2 backs? Because it makes your alignment tighter, and easier to put in conflict?
-
I believe in try to make a drill as game like as possible, so a lot of ours will be read keys so I can see eyes
-
Preach! Coach what you know! https://t.co/8B6DAVUn5L
-
-
to be honest it's what I was taught, gotta coach what you know.
-
also the threat of a gap scheme getting north & south can happen quicker
-
Why does it threaten faster? Hitting the pass on the edge a bigger problem with defenders more condensed?
-
we have started to play with some 3 man front and ran about 15% last year to give a change
-
-
that's a matchup issue not a scheme out with #1
-
I think it make the jobs more predictable, and traditional, RPOs eat traditional
-
If it ain't broke don't fix it lol.
-
correct the QB can't be confident in knowing how we will react
-
thanks. What about blitzing drills? I have several in my toolbox, but can always use more!
-
blowing up my Twitter feed tonight
-
And I think you have to have calls that change your force/flat defenders triggers, https://t.co/LALyANIFav
-
-
correct the QB can't be confident in knowing how we will react
-
agree we do that with our down safety to the field and our high
-
What's some drills you guys do for your secondary guys to teach route recognition?
-
ever play a hard corner, and roll to 3, freeing the down safety to play Hook-Curl and spill/QB
-
we don't just because it's another coverage that we won't major in, we are a 2 high team
-
we base with quarters to field and cover 2 to boundary
-
-
do you have a preferred technique for setting the edge?
-
to me winning with RPO's is having a solid eye progression before your feet take off. Don't go till you know
-
How do you handle trips to the boundary?
-
as a two high team how do you like to handle the post by the slot?
-
a DL or perimeter guy ??!
-
-
our FS will run with him, he's got to be your best cover safety
-
our Sam sets it to the field and aligns outside of 2 in 2X2
-
his sole job is to set a vertical edge from GL to GL
-
you know quarter beaters are, daily work.
-
Great conversation going between coaches and ! Get in while you can!
-

-
we run 33. OLB's set the edge. Mostly cover 3.
-
exactly if you rep it enough it no longer is a "beater"
-
FS has to protect inside first make ball go outside and over the top
-
OLB guys read the tackles???
-
yes sir. Or end man. They read high/low hat then backfield. If no TE, 4x4. If TE 2x2
-
I really want to get away from making any lineman a primary read key for any defender, they are the biggest liars, RPO death
-
gotcha we will play our down safety inside some and will read end mans knee
