A1: "doing the right thing" can often lead 2 difficult & uncomfortable conversations for adults. However if "doing the right thing" is in the best interest of kids, we must ALWAYS be willing 2 take on difficult conversations, even if that's hard for the adults. #eduar#1stEDU
A1: Often times doing the right thing is not the easy thing. And honestly , sometimes it's not what others would perceive as the "fair" thing but at the end of the day we have to do what is best for kids! #eduar
Indeed, but as our school's #PBIS quote of the day today said, "As long as you keep doing what you're doing, you'll keep getting what you're getting." #eduAR
A1: Doing the right thing will sometimes hurt others, if they don't understand the WHY behind our actions. We have to support, empathize, and understand that it will take some time to adjust. #EduAR
A1: Doing “what’s right” by our kids should be what’s at the forefront on our minds... it should guide every choice we make! It may require you to stand up when others aren’t! #EduAR
A1: sometimes "doing the right thing" will often lead to positive situations within your school as well. Some teachers having been waiting for years for their leaders to "do the right thing!" #eduar#1stEDU#LearningFIRST

Leading with “yes” — within a “no first” culture can cause a situation to arise. (Student advocacy can be seen as not following the rules or policies.) 😥 #eduar

A2 Pride & jealousy, which can be can metals cast in the same sword. If we think we are above others or in want of what others have going...that can spell trouble with a capital "T" #eduAR
A2: Jealousy can lead to fear and psranoia that someone is doing better work and that their job is in jeopardy rather than working together for the group. #eduAR
A2: Negativity, closed-minded & jealously! We don’t have time for any of that in an organization... especially when we’re focused on serving students!! #eduar

A2: A toxic teacher lounge can kill the culture of a building. A positive teacher lounge can lead to amazing things on behalf of ALL kids learning at high levels. I've seen the impact of both! Chosse positive emotions! #eduar#1stEDU#LearningFIRST
Q2: Negativity and being self centered but we have to be careful as leaders to make sure those aren't by products of being overwhelmed, unsupported , and ill equipped to do the job! #EduAR
Lack of trust; operating under fear; feeling threatened by others; no celebratory spirit (of students and staff); making assumptions; stereotyped beliefs driving culture; relying on email vs face-to-face; hidden agendas; gossip! #eduar

So often, we fail to have deep, meaningful conversations because of our own insecurities. If we establish a culture where the norm is to manage emotions and check intentions, we can begin to give real feedback about practices across the organization #eduAR

When your building culture allows for teachers to be open about areas of struggles it encourages a mindset of support from all faculty. Experts in that area step up to support bc they know it will be received without hurt feelings! We have this @CentralCabotpK4#EduAR
A3 This is tough because without the politics no money. Frustration for me comes when I feel decisions are made on the backs of kids. Made without knowing. As the leader, I make every effort to celebrate and sell the greatness of our school. Hope it reaches the right ears. #EduAR
“Politics” often interfere or block (or cause people to avoid) the REAL conversations that desperately NEED to happen - if we are focusing on students first and creating a positive school culture. #eduar
A3: What society sees as politically correct is not always the best thing to do for kids and it seems that we are always pulling against some sort of new era of policies. Also, I think people expect way more from teachers than is achievable by any other standards. #eduar
It’s one thing to say we want to develop life long learners, but’s it’s another to stand up against those practices that we know, and that research proves, fundamentally undermine children’s genuine interest and curiosity about the world. @alfiekohn#wsra18
A3 when building politics are in play it can cause teachers to question their ability. I think if we do what’s right for kids and don’t care who gets the credit it will work out. #eduAR
A3: Would you rather be popular or a strong leader? Can you be both? (In my opinion not always.) Sometimes hard decisions must be made, shouldn't be room for the political game when it comes to kids' best interests. #eduAR
A3) At times you feel like you are playing chess. You know the move that you need to make however, you might think about the possible consequences of your actions. #EduAr
A3: If it's good for kids be ready to justify your practice with the research to support it! This is something I feel strongly about when it comes to behavior issues! So many politics in what is "the right way" to deal with extreme behaviors. #EduAR

A4: When I first entered administration, I felt as if I needed to swoop in and save teachers when they were stressed. I have learned that support and encouragement will empower. #EduAR
Especially when teaching strategies help Ss reach deep conceptual understanding but the adults don’t get so it’s immediately ridiculed and scrapped #eduAR
A4: I tend to feel like I need to help with everything going on at school & it can become overwhelming! I’ve learned to prioritize & delegate out to others to help lighten the load! #eduAR

A4: just because it looks like it fits in my calendar doesn’t really mean I have the time to carry it all out. Thoughtful consideration is vital for making strong decisions! #eduar
A3) I remember when I was a teacher I was confronted by a group of teachers that told me I can not stay after school and work with kids because then they would be expected to do the same thing.
I stayed anyway. #EduAr
Delegating is necessary! I had to learn this the hard way when I first became a lead learner of a building. I didn't want to burden others by asking them take on some responsibilities. I have learned that it is okay to share the load with others. #EduAR
A4: I tend to feel like I need to help with everything going on at school & it can become overwhelming! I’ve learned to prioritize & delegate out to others to help lighten the load! #eduAR
A2: Lack of a universal vision. People can have different ideas, debate, and even struggle to get along. However, without one primary doctrine that everyone follows, the goal will be lost! #eduar#edchat
A4: just because it looks like it fits in my calendar doesn’t really mean I have the time to carry it all out. Thoughtful consideration is vital for making strong decisions! #eduar
A4 It's easy to recognize this when you burn out, but I've tried to think bigger about this subject & focus on building sustainable structures that don't rely on the skills/actions of one person so that when they leave it doesn't leave an organizational void. No answer yet #eduAR
A4: WE are ALL Educators...which means WE always take on too much. But that's because we love kids and support learning for ALL Students. That's why we are in the business of saving lives! #eduar#1stEDU#LearningFIRST
A4 : Generally speaking , trying to fix everything at one time alone instead of empowering others to work with you . Getting distracted by too many "initiatives" instead of staying the course for what you know is working! #eduar
A4 I just get so worn out and frustrated. Sometimes I feel like I’m spinning so many plates that I’m on the brink of disaster, but I just keep spinning, especially if it’s an opportunity to pay it forward and support and encourage others in this profession.#EduAR
A3: When politicians talk about schools they speak of going "back to basics" - political speak for "tougher [outdated] standards." Instead of pushing for needed ed. reform, we keep doubling down! Makes it harder to think progressive. #eduar#edchat

I’m a work in progress here. Self-care goes down the toilet. The Ss will lovingly ask me, “Are you okay?” 😞 Sleep deprivation. Thankful for my loving and patient family. 🙏🏽 #eduar
This is a whole shift of thinking and one I'm adapting to. It's hard when I'm so independent and used to doing things to help others not visa versa #eduar

A4. Too many times to list here until I realized that by trying to do too much in support of others actually dissempowers other potential leaders. #eduAR
A4: Finding balance is key. I want to do everything! I want to have input, share insight, and I LOVE listening and trying to solve problems. This tends to make me say yes to everything! Then I feel overwhelmed by my schedule! #EduAR

A4) I have had to learn that if I am overusing my superpowers I need to take a step back and look for the flaw in the system that is producing the results I am receiving. #EduAr
A5: My partner in crime, @SherryVoegele is my comic relief, brainstorming pal, idea giver, study buddy, and friend. She challenges me to dig deeper and believe in myself! #eduAR

A4 for the past several years Before teachers come back to school I gather all our testing data and put together a back to school data report for each teacher. I’ve learned to ask for the data before August 1st so I can still enjoy my family in August. #eduAR
Gave me some hope that somewhere there are people and districts that value students and learning above politics. The hope keeps me in the field. And gosh darn it, I think the field, the kids, and the teachers need someone like me. #eduar
A5: When I was an AP at @WMSSteamAcademy, my lead learner treated me exactly as her equal, teaching me all the ropes, no holds barred. She grew me as an educator and leader. She had a genuine interest in my success & development. Thus, I am successful today. 💕 #EduAr
A5 Twitter has opened the door to me finding those who have the same passions and aspirations. It’s been a game changer just in the last three weeks. #EduAR
A4: I was English department chair, working on my Masters and a newborn at home. It turned out to harm quality of life. I was burning the candle at both ends. It changed my mood and how I interact with those around me. I stepped down from Dept Chair 2 go foreword. #eduar
Gave me some hope that somewhere there are people and districts that value students and learning above politics. The hope keeps me in the field. And gosh darn it, I think the field, the kids, and the teachers need someone like me. #eduar
A5: I was told early to "find my marigolds". Marigolds don't have to roll with all my ideas, don't have to change their instructional methods to mirror mine but they DO need to support and stand beside me as I grow. I feel so blessed to have so many marigolds 🌼. #eduAR
A5: They know your heart, your intentions and your motives. They also know when to say, " Let's think about......." or to tell you to " Stop It." #eduar
A5: I’ve loved connecting with others that challenge my thinking & push me to become a better leader! I love reflecting w/ them & am grateful that they keep me accountable! #eduAR
A5 I love to talk about school. I’m lucky to have a PLN of math Interventionist that also love to talk about school and are deeply passionate about their jobs. Through discussion and encouragement they make me better. I’m lucky! #eduar
A5 Collaborating and networking with other passionate educators is truly empowering! They challenge and support me, pushing me higher and encouraging me to keep on going! #EduAR
A5: Like-minded professionals know when it's right to challenge our thinking and push our boundaries to get better on behalf of ALL students! Those are the people I continually seek out as a part of my PLN so I can learn and grow from them! #eduar#1stEDU#LearningFIRST

A5. Like minded leaders working together increases our collective leadership efficacy which increases the potential to foster collective teacher efficacy. @Jenni_Donohoo@PeterMDeWitt#eduar
A6: Vertical alignment knowledge in math instruction, data based interventions, and the desire to never stop learning/ growing! Once we think we are the expert, we lose our effectiveness! #eduar
A6:
Love
Respect
Sensitivity (sometimes means I'm crying because of something small, sometimes means I'm picking up on subtle cues of change in my class) #eduAR
I think this question is so wonderful. We often forget to give ourselves a pat on the back for our strengths. We are our own worst critic, and we need to stop sometimes and consider what we rock at! #EduAR
A5: Observation is one talent, being able to read situations, without the need for speaking but listening. Compassion, for understanding that each student, family or staff has a backstory. Passionate, about my passion for educating young people to know thyself. #eduar
