Hi I'm Victoria from Langley! I teach Gr 3/4, but I have taught Grade 7 many times in the last 16 years!
Let's get warm and fuzzy to start
Happy to be here its been a while on excited about the topic!
Q1- Give an example of a time you or someone else made a kid feel worthy or love and belonging?
Is that possible .... digitally? Hahahaha
The Man in the Arena is my favourite all the quote that uses.
A1- today i took time to play a math connect 4 game with a grade 1 student. He had the biggest smile when i let him teach me.

Coming in a little late. Nicole from Surrey, BC
peers if you like an idea make sure to connect and borrow.
A1 - When I shake each ss hand when they walk through my door in the morning
I love hearing so many stories of how we greet them at the door and make them feel welcomed! :)
Ask a student what they want to do or how they would like Tto show they understand
A1-When I tell them its okay to make mistakes and we learn from our mistakes.
A1 spending time w/ a new st, asking her personal questions via Google translate. Shows I want to know her & her back story.
Q2- states we are all imperfect and wired for struggle. How do you model this? How do you let kids know this is ok?
A1. it is a top priority. Also making my room a welcoming place before bell too. Often kids are waiting at 8 to get in
A2: My class is designed in the growth mindset. We all fail and we all learn from it. Students can reassess anytime on concepts.
A2- A baby needs to crawl before they learn to walk. That's how we need to learn too... baby steps.. its not easy.Try and try again
A2- i struggle at something every day but at least I went for it! So I actually progressed.
A2. We had chat about feeling helpless @ different moments in our lives. I shared & then kids shared too
A2: Understanding that we are all learners in the room and we learn from each other peer-peer teacher-student & student-teacher
A2- The best thing about struggling... we learn to problem solve and to emerge with better understanding
We watch videos too & chat about moments of being vulnerable
A2: Often as educators we contradict ourselves. We tell kids failing is okay, then if they fail a test we don't let them retake it.
I show the st I make mistakes. Like using doc camera & marking math. Or my many spelling errors. Thank at when they find my errors
A2 If st don't agree w/ me or how I mark, they have a voice. If they have a valid point I agree w/ them. Be real.
Q3- “You can’t get to courage w/o walking through vulnerability.” Share a story through a tweet.
love this! We can be "real" w our mistakes and show kids it is OK. I'm the T but I still make mistakes too!
A3- u cant use a on this one :)
A3 Can't grow if not taking risks. Sometimes those risks are scary!
A3- Admit when you are not familiar with something- soon you learn that other people are not familiar with it either :)

A3- I feel everyday we encounter vulnerable situations. They are our yellow brick road.
A3. Any blog post I've written Hard to put ideas out there for others to read & interpret. You never know how they will be received
so true! like a new curriculum :)
A3- Taking on your first teaching contract!
Love the idea of the yellow brick road. & sometimes shame feels like the Great OZ -who isn't so great after all.
A3: My struggle is giving up control to my students which now I've done. They have autonomy in class. https://t.co/GYWNmrFABJ
A3. Admitting I can't do it all & need help
True Vulnerability is the foundation of connection, innovation and creativity.
Q4.- “I live and love with my whole heart.” How do you run a classroom that models this?
I am letting go of judgements. In turn, letting kids make mistakes, celebrating who they r and cultivating vulnerability.
I have had some in there forever... sometimes I have just said it is healthier for me to just let it out there
A4 encourage kindness. Class meetings. Respect st & their individuality. Take care of st as a whole.

A4- take time for every kid every day. Believe it or not but their schedule and day at school is more important.
A4 The saying that no one cares how much you know until they know how much you care is SO TRUE! Building relationships is vital!

Jim Benning being vulnerable knowing he had to face media & fans after Trade Deadline?
