Run by Des Moines Public School Instructional Technology Coordinators and moderated by them and educators from the district every Tuesday from 8-9pm CST during the school year. We take occasional breaks for the Holidays, but we are consistently trying to reach out to our 60 plus schools and programs to collaborate and tell their stories.

Q3: What was something brand new you did in the first few days in your classroom related to...community, teamwork, technology?
A3 began a morning meeting routine in my room to work on building a positive community. It has been an awesome experience so far
A3 I introduced the kids to all 10 Dash and Dot robots and coding.
Q3 I taught w/o computers thanks to MAP tests
Students meet with each other?
A3: this may sound negative, but we went 1:1 this year so I instituted a phone caddy for all student cell phones.
A3: I started embedding all of my instruction into my OneNote lessons to provide additional support to students
A3: began classroom meeting routine of building community and started exploratory mornings...that I can't wait to expand on
A3. Our school began yoga in the classroom as part of our morning mtg! Incredible!

A3: We brought in sophs and new students for the first half day to orient them specifically and make them feel welcome & valued.

Q4: If you could start the year back over, what is one thing you would do differently or change?
how does exploratory time work for your 1st graders?
No - district policy says only school issued devices.
Summer softball!!! Great times were had with that but not sure I can stand the heat anymore!!!
Not brand new, but spent time hearing each other's stories! Explained to Ss why my ancestors moved to Trinidad using Google maps
That's an awesome idea to help them get ready for school!
A4: I would create an anchor activity and have 1 to 1 convos with students to build relationships.
A4: I would've gotten a jump start on my mini-units for my 8th grade personal choice unit in Dec.
I have had less problems in 6 weeks with phones than I typically had in one day last year.
A4 spent more time teaching students to navigate the websites we use like and some still struggle

A4: I would have jumped into debate prep a lot sooner. After 7 weeks, I feel 5 weeks behind. Silly teaching skills over content.

Q5: With 29 days or so of school in the books what are you most looking forward to this year?
A4: I wish I would of done a little more team building but good news is I can bring it in more throughout the year!

A5: Hoping for that moment when it sinks in that they don't have to chase points for me, and start chasing the learning instead.

I want to improve on individualized learning, and provide more opportunities to celebrate student growth and success.

Q7: Coolest thing to happen so far: reviewing character traits, S insisted "child of God" must be listed for ALL characters!

LOVE it!!! Science and science teachers are just plain awesome!
A7: When I speak broken Spanish my Ss laugh at me! 😊They also had a good laugh when I said the word brain in other languages!
I also sell it as simple school pride - Ss may not like sports, but they need to ID something to be proud of.

A8: Music is always a fun thing - not daily, but I try to use it often - chunked in appropriate ways.
Most definitely! For me, it was athletics but I was active in band & clubs, so it would've happened nonetheless!
yes I'm excited for our journey. He is not there every day but working on trying to get it once a week

A8: I'm a firm, but fun teacher! Today we sang songs for even and odd and did a dance. This time they imitated my dance 😊!
A9-A That they can be confident in their ability to learn, fail, and learn from failures. To get comfortable being uncomfortable
