Our mission for our 21st century chat is to create a positive 21st century learning environment for our students by sharing resources and ideas that has worked in our classrooms. Join us every Sunday from 8:00-9:00 PM (EST) on Twitter using the hashtag #21stedchat. All are welcome!
A1: In my classroom, I valued: positive intentions, integrity (from all), & the creation and maintenance of a safe, open space for curiosity and learning. All this together created a productive space for learning and growth. #21stedchat
Positivity is huge for me. I believe it was Jon Mclain who said, "You're either part of the solution or part of the problem. Stop being part of the problem." #21stedchat
A2: What behaviors were important in my classroom for a Positive Learning Environment? Regular questioning. Plus anything that promoted respect, expressed humility, worked toward our goals, or demonstrated commitment to each other and our learning space. #21stedchat
A3. 1. Personalized as it is about their needs 2. Collaborative as its a we room, not me room 3. Diverse in ideas, thoughts and views 4. Productive as we are always learning and trying 5. Supportive as we are in the learning process together #21stedchat

By modeling it and talking it up. It all starts with the leader. Todd Whitaker says,"When the Principal sneezes the school catches a cold." Attitudes are contagious #21stedchat
A4 : Started the year with mission possible, series of getting to know one another, course, expectations. Defined expectations through class developed norms for discussion, groupwork, and independent work. #21stedchat#makinglearningmeaningful
A4: How to build a positive classroom culture:
From the 1st minute, we're in this together. Treat people like people... & never waiver. Also, be a real person. Open up. Learn. We're all learners. We're a community building something great. LEAD.

A5: I use a series of questions to guide students towards creating norms for classroom behavior that work for everyone. HS students know what a functional classroom looks like and are willing to sign on to mutually beneficial set of norms.

A5 On the first day, students answer questions (anonymously) on post-it notes around the room to build our classroom culture. We discuss the answers and refer to them during theyear. We also start the year focusing on growth mindset - sets the tone for the year. #21stedchat
