Q1: Welcome to #TECHtalkGA! Share your name/dist/role and give a shout out to a school administrator we should follow. Tell us what makes them an awesome leader and a must follow.
A1: Hi everyone! I’m Miranda Pryor and this is my first year as AP at Pepperell Elementary School in Lindale GA. Of course, everyone should follow my awesome boss, @teripendley because she is an amazing leader and she’s super techy!. #TECHtalkGA
A1: Happy Monday, friends! I'm serving the lovely @JCSchoolSystem, and I'm going to shout out @donnawilsonjcss, as she was one of the first Assistant Principals in Jackson County to join Twitter. #TECHtalkGA

Q2: Creighton says “effective integration of technology has more to do with pedagogy, and very little to do with technology itself.” Share some ways we can keep technology relevant to the teaching and learning in the classroom. #TECHtalkGA
A1: Justin Mewborn Vickery Creek Middle School Forsyth County Assistant Administrator/ITS. A lot of good ones to follow out there. @elizihle@lead_mbradley@SFMSBen#techtalkga
A2: Relevance is the key. Learning is number one. Tech is used to enhance the learning, not the other way around. I love the possibilities of personalized learning with various tech tools. Differentiation is easier than ever before. #TECHtalkGA
A1: Jamey Alcorn, principal @Pepperell_Pulse in Lindale. My shout out goes to @la_turrentine@CoosaHighSchool! She transitioned from an elementary school principalship to a high school a couple of years ago. Big adjustment she made look easy! #TECHtalkGA
Q1: Welcome to #TECHtalkGA! Share your name/dist/role and give a shout out to a school administrator we should follow. Tell us what makes them an awesome leader and a must follow.
A2: Using technology to support learning in the classroom is a great way to keep it relevant. Teaching should never be about the technology, the technology should enhance whatever is already happening in the classroom. #TECHtalkGA
A2 - The main focus needs to be on curriculum and achievement. How will this tool help enhance the learning of students & help students grow? It’s essential to keep your learning goals in mind. #TECHtalkGA
#techtalkga A2
Keep the main thing the main thing. Tech should act as a tool to increase engagement and achievement.
Don't rely on technology for a task list or post everything in Google Classroom. Your kids need you for your passion and zeal.
Suzanne Osborne, special ed teacher @pesdragons in Lindale, GA. You should follow @teripendley and @mirandapryor. They are tech savy admins who have what is best in mind for the students at our school. They encourage in a competitive way teachers to also get tech savy.
Q2
Keep it relevant by finding best practices that work. Technology should help engage a great teacher to their students. Use technology tools that allow you to connect with your students, not isolate you from them and their questions.
#TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA A2:
It's important to stay focused on what is really important:
1. What do Ss need to learn?
2. How can they show they've learned it?
Are there ways that #edtech might improve either of the two? Then go for it!
If not, move on or keep looking!
Q2: Creighton says “effective integration of technology has more to do with pedagogy, and very little to do with technology itself.” Share some ways we can keep technology relevant to the teaching and learning in the classroom. #TECHtalkGA
A2: I think this is all about balance. Technology is a tool, not a mandate. If its use provides greater connection and mastery for students it is a no brainer! #TECHtalkGA
Q2: Creighton says “effective integration of technology has more to do with pedagogy, and very little to do with technology itself.” Share some ways we can keep technology relevant to the teaching and learning in the classroom. #TECHtalkGA
A2: You have to figure out what concept you are teaching and then figure out what technology tool you can use to enhance the lesson or engage the students more. #TECHtalkGA
A2: I think keeping the focus on how a tool impacts student learning keeps good pedagogy. What is the outcome of the lesson? Does technology help that outcome? How do you know? #techtalkga
A2: We can guide our colleagues to work from the content and standards first. Without focus on pedagogy, it doesn't matter what tool you use, technological or otherwise.
#TECHtalkGA
Q3: We have all encountered admin/teachers who were technophobic. How do we overcome these paradigms and uneasy attitudes towards technology in general? #TECHtalkGA
A2 #TECHTalkGA:
Ask yourself "if I were to do this with paper and pencil instead of something digital, would instructional effectiveness"
If yes, continue to cross-check yourself.
If no, you are using technology for a purpose other than for the betterment of student learning.
A2: Technology should be used to enhance the curriculum Plain and simple why would we use it if it doesn't? Why should we use it if it is not creating something we couldn't do without technology? Like a statewide twitter chat. . OR a world wide collaboratoin #techtalkga

A3: Model, model, model & provide opportunities for practice & support. Example-Some Ts will never participate in a Twitter chat on their own but may participate in a school chat w/ their colleagues. Later they may be willing to branch out to other chats. #TECHtalkGA
A3 - Showing staff members how tech make their lives easier seems to hook them in. When they figure out that they can save time with technology, they tend to be more open to other suggestions as well.
#TECHtalkGA
A3: You help others overcome these paradigms and uneasy attitudes towards technology in general by modeling the technology, offering assistance and prizes are good too. #TECHtalkGA
A3
Be there for them, be there for them, be there for them. Don't force your beliefs on them about technology. When the time is right, they will reach out to you. Like all things, build a relationship with them. When they are ready, they will be so grateful. #TECHtalkGA
A3: Having an environment that embraces failure as a learning process is a great start. When people know that mistakes are welcomed they may be more willing to try new things and embrace technology. #TECHtalkGA
A3: It's relationships, it's giving Ts and Ss a safe place to learn something new and providing different ways to meet a common goal #techtalkga. Also being supporative and helping each outer out.
A3 #TECHtalkGA
Show them that technology isn't all or nothing. Use it appropriately.
Show them small chunks of information
Incentivize as much as possible
Peer pressure
Competition
Let them see tech modeled effectively by another teacher and then provide support for them
A3: Having Instructional Technologist, like @jdayedu, have helped new teachers and new learners ease into this process. Certainly appreciate her being a resource and being in our school each Thursday! #TECHtalkGA
Q3: We have all encountered admin/teachers who were technophobic. How do we overcome these paradigms and uneasy attitudes towards technology in general? #TECHtalkGA
A2-Making it relevant and meaningful is the key!! Technology should be used to enhance a lesson but can never replace direct instruction from a teacher. When used correctly-it is powerful!! #TECHtalkGA
A3 #TECHTalkGA:
Start with empathy. Always/
We must understand each person's ACTUAL "why" in regards to his/her anxieties and phobias with technology.
Once you find the why, you can start to target with individualized solutions. Eventually, the "lightbulb moment" will happen!
A3: finding ways to make life/Jon easier. Example - admin was using admin assistant to dictate notes. Showed him speech-to-text in google docs. Then he started asking what else would save him time. #techtalkga
A3: I've always found that it's best to show how that tech will save time or make life easier. That's the best way to hook those who *think* they can't do tech.
We can support and encourage our colleagues in having a growth mindset!
#TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA A3:
You can't convince anyone to change their mind unless they understand the WHY. #goldencircle
WHY will this improve what I'm already doing well?
WHY will it help my Ss?
WHY will it help me?
They also need to know that you're there to help them w/each baby step.
Q3: We have all encountered admin/teachers who were technophobic. How do we overcome these paradigms and uneasy attitudes towards technology in general? #TECHtalkGA
I got ahead of myself, #TECHTalkGA!
It should be... "If I were to do this with paper and pencil instead of something digital, would instructional effectiveness be negatively affected?"
When you try to tweet fast in order to read the Stream of Awesome that is #TECHTalkGA...

We do work with an incredible leadership team. We all care about one thing, providing the students with tools they need to succeed. ensuring the technology will drive the curriculum to the next level. Helping the students to gain knowledge and develop relevant skills.

Q4: Technology is becoming more and more an integral part of professional learning for educators. How do you see this continuing to evolve in the future? #TECHtalkGA
A4: The possibilities are endless! Tech now enables Ts to design personalized learning paths for each S. I'm a fan of badging which can be a huge motivator for both Ss & Ts. I need a lesson on Awesome Tables from @CatFlippen for our 2019 Summer Twitter Challenge. :) #TECHtalkGA
A4: How adults learn is changing the same way that kids learn. Everything is moving in a personalized direction aimed to increase engagement. #techtalkga
A4: Technology is great for professional learning because it allows educators to connect and learn with people outside of our building. It can also make learning more personalized. #TECHtalkGA
A4
It will continue to evolve into a personal connection between the teacher and their individual needs for their room. The shift will continue to move towards effect use in the classroom and away from gadgets. If it isn't improving learning; don't do it. #TECHtalkGA
A4 - Teachers know now that technology will definitely be in classrooms. It’s time to focus on how to implement it effectively. Learning to use tech in ways to help support student achievement will cause a win-win situation for everyone involved. #TECHtalkGA
A4: I know I'm about to get laughed at and I know its not about the tool. But pretty soon there will be virtual reality PD. It's going to be Ready Player One PL #techtalkga. Dibs on the Delorian
😊 Aw, Teri! I would be THRILLED to take you down that rabbit hole! Any time, my friend! You have been an inspirational leader to me for years! #TECHTalkGA

A4: I think back to when I first began teaching... no internet, no email, professional networks nothing like today! Who knows what the future holds compared to how far this has grown even in just the last five years... #TECHtalkGA
Q4: Technology is becoming more and more an integral part of professional learning for educators. How do you see this continuing to evolve in the future? #TECHtalkGA
A4: I see professional development evolving more with Ts learning how to use the correct tech tools for tasks and teachers learning how to incorporate coding in subject area tasks. We have to know as much about tech as our students know IF that is possible.#TECHtalkGA
A3: Pull up the TKES and give some examples of where tech can fit into those. The word “technology” is not in TKES much, but technology can be woven throughout it easily #TECHtalkGA
#TECHTalkGA A4:
More and more, PL will begin to model the personalization and effective technology use & integration that we want to see in the classroom as great teachers who have always taught with technology become great leaders who can't imagine NOT using it!
Q4: Technology is becoming more and more an integral part of professional learning for educators. How do you see this continuing to evolve in the future? #TECHtalkGA
A4: where some are interacting will be norm. PLN across state/lnternational lines; ideas spread quickly and more easily accessible. Researched practices and results filtered to school/classrooms rapidly to influence learning more effectively. #techtalkga
A4 #TECHtalkGA
The world technology should disappear. It will become an everyday ubiquitous skill that we use for instruction and professional learning. People will come to expect technology PL and job embedded learning.
A4: I see (and hope to see) tech continue to democratize Professional Learning so that any teacher who wants to learn and grow can do so at his or her own pace.
As #personalizedlearning becomes more popular for students, so should it be (in my opinion) for Teachers.
#TECHtalkGA

To go along with what @iamryanwhite said. When we roll it out it has to be seen not as something else or something new and scary. It's going to be a big part of going to school if it isn't already.#techtalkga
A4 #TECHTalkGA:
UNPOPULAR OPINION -- Technology should not be integral part of professional learning for educations.
Or rather, it should not be the focus/instigator/basis.
It's time we start addressing the actual driver behind effective PL: passion, relevance, interest.
Q5: “Leaders become great, not because of their power, but because of their ability to empower others.” -John Maxwell
What are some ways school admin along with ITS can empower teachers to become effective technology leaders? #TECHtalkGA
Much agreed just like how tech shouldn't be the "focus" of lessons with students.
We must focus on what will help our colleagues grow on their practice as educators. That means if tech is included, it must be as a means for growth in practice.
#TECHtalkGA

A5 - Allow Ts in your building time to explore, experiment, & discuss how they use tech tools in the classrooms. Giving opportunities for Ts to share what works for them in a comfortable environment is a powerful way to encourage leadership abilities in your staff.
#TECHtalkGA
A5: It’s important to give teachers a chance to showcase their technology skills whenever possible. Teachers may be more willing to learn from each other than an administrator so when we show off their skills everyone benefits. #TECHtalkGA
A5: reward/acknowledge the tech innovators in a public way. Don’t call out the non-techy folks, but make it clear that tech innovation is cool and noticed. #TECHtalkGA
A5: By being supportive, being relevant, and walk the balance of getting in the way and not being in the way if that make sense. Its creating a culture where you empower people to take risks and provide experiences to enhancet their curriculum. #TECHtalkGA
A5
ITS: Need to be careful of overkill with technology. Especially after a conference. Keep it focused on instruction; not on the sales pitch
Admins: Brag on teachers that do it right, and privately discuss technology as a crutch with those teachers that don't. #techtalkga
A5: I am blessed to work w/so many techno-saavy Teachers @Pepperell_Pulse. They help me all the time by streamlining by technological means. My philosophy: Surround yourself w/great people, give them the environment & circumstances for success, and learn from them! #TECHtalkGA
Q5: “Leaders become great, not because of their power, but because of their ability to empower others.” -John Maxwell
What are some ways school admin along with ITS can empower teachers to become effective technology leaders? #TECHtalkGA
#techtalkga A5
Everyone likes recognition. No matter where a teacher falls on the spectrum of technology skills, small steps can equal huge wins. The admin and ITS can support teachers through these small steps.
A5: Leadership is all about supporting and encouraging others to unlock the greatness they might not know they possess. As the saying goes, "a rising tide lifts all ships." Leaders uplift others who continue to uplift the fleet of ships.

My good friend @amyvitala says that her goal everytime she walks into a school is to teach herself out of a job. That's what I want!
ITS can shine a light on Ts who are doing it right, who can serve as models for others.
Admin can then offer opps to lead!
