Agreed. Aaron your writing is great!

Good morning Michelle, principal from Saskatchewan, Canada joining in for a short time this morning.

Hi tribe. I have a question: What do you do to recharge from school?
Awesome so glad you’re here Laura!
Good morning! Great learning in every time!
Worried no one would read it. Or that my opinion isn't backed up by research. Even though that's ok 😬☺️ https://t.co/9bFPofc4e8
A Recharge: I went whale watching on Sunday May 1st with my family. It was the most amazing experience after the toughest week.

Sunshine, working in the garden/yard-time to reflect and process. https://t.co/cuPuagLk06
Hi tribe. I have a question: What do you do to recharge from school?
Making sure to take some time each day to do what I like - reading, jigsaw puzzles, word games.
congrats again! How exciting!
Rich, jumping in from PA/NJ this morning! Glad to be herewith the tribe!
YES! Every time! I feel like I have to have an idea that will be new to others.
I definitely get that. I often feel that pressure, too. How do you combat that desire for the perfect blog?
I blog to keep my voice, share my thoughts, & to clarify my beliefs about teaching and learning. https://t.co/gcooYip2Zj
mirrors my sentiments. I'm good about school blog; not so about personal one. Time is my foe. https://t.co/LB8sbMcw6I
Time and well-developed ideas are what keeps me from blogging. Need to just do it.
Worrying about my audience-asking if I actually have something to say...still working on growth mindset https://t.co/UVvwijf1lE
Morning, Rich! Love following your work!!
Keep in mind, you are not writing a book. Good blogging can be short with one thought only.
Morning Rachel, great to see you here!
That's understandable! Blogging is more for YOU than anyone else. If it helps someone else... BONUS! https://t.co/tBtRuKjSRn
Worried no one would read it. Or that my opinion isn't backed up by research. Even though that's ok 😬☺️ https://t.co/9bFPofc4e8
Thanks for sharing, Jerry! Hope you are doing well!
Hey there, Rich! Great to connect with you here on !
. Jessica Swartzentruber! Beautiful spring day in Iowa!!🌷🌸💐
Qs vexing me lately: How valid are descriptors like at/above/below grade level in reading or writing? What might be more useful?
Ongoing battle. I remind myself it's a public reflection moment that someone else might benefit from. https://t.co/d28nwIpNqr
I definitely get that. I often feel that pressure, too. How do you combat that desire for the perfect blog?
Sara,Elem Principal from TX Blogging lack of time and feeling tie that "blog worthy"
Jim Smith, Twin Cities, Minnesota. Looking at all of the sheets over the flowers. Frost Advisory Good Morning.
wish I could go, but I'm all booked up these last weekends in May. Enjoy!
I had to let go of perfection or even thinking I could get close. It's paralyzing.
Ewww. Gonna be 86 today in Htown. Used to live in Pittsburgh. Done with snow
Lurking from Texas while making pancakes for the littles!!
A1) I wish I had more time to sit down and write. Instead, I use social media for short posts. https://t.co/7G5XZAy1Mz
Exactly! It needs to be original and authentic for ourselves. Others will grow from our public growth. https://t.co/iQhkx6dhTy
YES! Every time! I feel like I have to have an idea that will be new to others.
Blogging gives me oppty to flesh out my own thinking. An oppty to share my thinking & find other like minded thinkers!
Suggestions on a blog site to use for Ts and Ss?
What keeps me from starting is making the time + determining a focus. Wld love to learn from you all! ! https://t.co/LXS9jWYMbj
It IS, though! Especially to you!
That is my biggest issue. I feel as if it has to be very poignant and substantial in length. https://t.co/lerFp4fkBH
Keep in mind, you are not writing a book. Good blogging can be short with one thought only.
Ready for some learning from some great educators!
they can be helpful, but too often we lock kids into one classification and leave them. https://t.co/IeUqoXdAk4
Qs vexing me lately: How valid are descriptors like at/above/below grade level in reading or writing? What might be more useful?
Thanks! We are a long way from them but sending out as much support to those people as we can.
A1: I have a hard time finding the time to blog and what to blog about.
As someone who just started blogging I just write down ideas for posts as they come.
A little late but here! Justin Owens from Charlotte NC
EVERY voice that advocates for kids is important. YOU are important!
A1: I think I need to let go of the mindset that a blog has to be best-seller quality.
For me it's a combo of time to get in the writing zone and a mix of the desire to make it my best.
I have to create volunteer opps that address literacy and low-income achievement issues. Has anyone done this? How?
I blogged when I was a clssrm T. When I left the clssrm, I stopped. I'm not sure why. I enjoyed it. https://t.co/9vaqUyPEZs
Not having a schedule. That makes it hard for blogging regularly.
Yet, some of the best blogs I have read were fairly short, but the reflection was so inspiring.
I agree! Sometimes I don’t realize that is the problem, but i spend time lost in the bigger idea.
I was putting my posts on Medium but I sometimes also cross-post with my own website now.
It's amazing what spending the time reflecting and actually writing your thoughts down teaches you. https://t.co/EIkGto8xfY
That's understandable! Blogging is more for YOU than anyone else. If it helps someone else... BONUS! https://t.co/tBtRuKjSRn
Worried no one would read it. Or that my opinion isn't backed up by research. Even though that's ok 😬☺️ https://t.co/9bFPofc4e8
Charissa joining from Alabaster AL
Another foe: insecurity. Are my reflections blog worthy?
I struggle with this as well! Medium is helping me. I just discovered it. It's very informal. https://t.co/ReRm9hJabI
A1: I think I need to let go of the mindset that a blog has to be best-seller quality.
Audience here, too. And am I repeating what others have already said? !
I think I feel the same. I started and then fizzled! Need to get back to it - love reading blogs.
There are so many ways to connect; I'm not blogging b/c I can connect in others ways. Ts have to choose; can't do it all!
A1) my blog posts are sporadic. I feel like I want to wait until I really have something I want to share.
I blog to keep in touch w/ past "students" (who I may only get for 1 day or 1 week in their career.) https://t.co/ZsdYsCt1bl
I would agree. What's the entrance/exit process look like? Need more than just stats to determine this. https://t.co/ZXJhzNu4ld
they can be helpful, but too often we lock kids into one classification and leave them. https://t.co/IeUqoXdAk4
Qs vexing me lately: How valid are descriptors like at/above/below grade level in reading or writing? What might be more useful?
Look at as an example. Always short and to the point, but powerful and meaningful!
Also, blogging lets me flesh out one idea at a time, bring it into being, roll it around, talk about it with others.
I would say the time keeps me from blogging, but I know it's just an excuse.
A common fear about blogging is that nobody will read. Reality, nobody can read if you are not writing.
A1: I think about blogging several times a week. And then I don't do it. I need to commit to a regular day/time and get er done!
I blog to share and model best practices.
Blogging helps me simplify what I think/believe and why I think /believe it.
Morning Doug, great to see you here!
Thanks for that good tip. It takes some of the pressure off.
Let's talk summer reading! What are you reading this summer to grow professionally? What are you recommending to staff?
I'd love to hear on this question. The man is amazing w/his quality & quantity. https://t.co/d28nwIpNqr
I definitely get that. I often feel that pressure, too. How do you combat that desire for the perfect blog?
I get that for sure. I think we have to remember that were professionals and experts, even though we can doubt that
I started a blog last July, posted 6x, then stopped. Busyness is my blogsuck. Mostly self-imposed and always an excuse!
Weebly is super easy, very nice looking product! Kids love it! Adults "get" it! https://t.co/v3SrV8hwvB
Suggestions on a blog site to use for Ts and Ss?
Time and sometimes I worry what I write would be misinterpreted (I have been known to be cynical)… https://t.co/9lwGXBrKrI
Exactly!!!!! :) https://t.co/szTP5iDRBt
A common fear about blogging is that nobody will read. Reality, nobody can read if you are not writing.
I find myself increasingly mistrusting them as quicksilvery & context-dependent. As you say: dangerously reductive.
Morning Sean, great to see you here!
I don't know any good, solid resources to do one. And should I have a site for Ss to blog...
Blogging allows me to reflect critically on a multitude of issues.
I had someone contribute feedback to a post & push me this week. The conversation & product was great learning w many take aways
Same for me. It's a challenge to hit publish if I feel that I can do better.
Jaison from Houston jumping in for for a bit
Blogging A: I blog to develop and share deeper thoughts. Sometimes that takes time. It is worth it, so I need to make time..
Right? I'd imagine we all included TIME as a hindrance. Wld like to keep notes and then write more efficiently!
My concern-topics. Is there an audience that share the same passion & purpose for my topics of interest? https://t.co/su7q22XwSm
would love to do something from Texas to help them teachers and students have lost everything 😓😓
Blogging is also therapeutic. Writing gives me a release like running.
yes & I find the more I write, the more I write! Writing begets writing.
Yes they are! If you're reflecting, I want to read it to see what worked or didn't, apply to self https://t.co/eYWsxdx5lB
Another foe: insecurity. Are my reflections blog worthy?
A1 I don't blog. Haven't been convinced it's worth my time. Is it?
You most definitely have something to say! You could write a great post about this topic--having something to say!
A1: Barrier to blogging:
Who am I to talk about ___. I'm not an "expert".
Solution: I am an expert on my perception of ___.
I think getting started is probably the hard part. Need suggestions. What host site is good?
I need to aim for shorter posts so that I blog more often for reflection and growth.
True- I have a drive home - lots of thoughts running - just not a practical way to capture them.... https://t.co/MlgwYrjUva
What keeps me from starting is making the time + determining a focus. Wld love to learn from you all! ! https://t.co/LXS9jWYMbj
I wish I would get questions to push my thinking https://t.co/h4dt9ZMjaI
I had someone contribute feedback to a post & push me this week. The conversation & product was great learning w many take aways
A1 I start posts but then I seem to get writers block and don't finish.
Snaps. Snaps. Snaps. Saying a lot about a little is tough. Many of us are BIG PICTURE thinkers.
Hi Jaison, great to have you! Loving and thanks to for introducing it to me!
This is probably my biggest struggle too. Any tips?
A suggestion would be relaying something interesting, thought provoking that a S or T shared with you. https://t.co/qx8r8PdcOG
A1: I have a hard time finding the time to blog and what to blog about.
How abt GoogleKeep. Keep notes on various topics + voice record ideas?
Morning Charissa, great to see you here!
I have made an attempt at blogging but it is really finding the time to do it and do it well.
Hey doc. Your blog is the creamiest smoothest shake.
https://t.co/pH4TJKBuuT
Also, blogging lets me flesh out one idea at a time, bring it into being, roll it around, talk about it with others.
I'm currently reading Sandberg's Lean In. So far...so good.
I also think about how many others blog about the same topic. It's all about reflection/personal growth though.
When I "wait until I have something to share" I find it being more difficult because they're longer https://t.co/UczbYgusZk
A1) my blog posts are sporadic. I feel like I want to wait until I really have something I want to share.
Morning Crystal, great to see you here!
I am not a consistent blogger. I appreciate when I capture thoughts for later. If not for others for me!
I'd argue showing vulnerability while reflecting is a HUGE indicator of strength & willingness to grow.
I write about what's burning in my brain, clawing at me to be written. Then the audience finds me!
Blogging as chance to capture current thinking, yes; also route to test drive alternate (hopeful?) voices.
Data can be misleading; we don't look @ whole child, just . Great readers can be slow; doesn't make them below.
I'm not worried about nobody reading it...it'll allow me to reflect. Just not sure where to begin.
My understanding grows w/time. Having a stage of development out for the world =not there yet (scary) https://t.co/HxvhBa2rxQ
Q2: I'm interested in creative ways to get TIME for PLC and personal learning.
Barriers: sub plans, contracts, accountability
A1 Blogging is a good way to state a position. Yet, it needs to be in general agreement with your employer.
Great point here. I don't think blogs should be complex. Simpler blogs = more effective blogs. https://t.co/j32TXJ4JfA
Blogging helps me simplify what I think/believe and why I think /believe it.
Good morning! Thanks for the encouragement and for spreading the word!
I worry about perfection and measuring up to all the amazing blogs that are out there.
Q: Anybody using as a feedback tool between teacher and principal for learning walks?
I found Lean In to be a quick read but not so much "new" info for me.
Same concern here. Or that someone has already said it. And written it beautifully!
Create a account. Start with a short post saying something that matters to you. Share it on . Keep sharing! 😀
I use bluehost with WP - Getting started is the easy part, to keep going takes persistence.
I know this feeling..trying 2 get over myself, if learning a process I need to model it, walk the talk https://t.co/bQsFzUnFRZ
Same for me. It's a challenge to hit publish if I feel that I can do better.
Always looking for my next book! Working with some staff to develop a TBR list so we can share thoughts.
. thanks, Nathan. Glad to be here!
would like to have kids know their strengths and challenges...
Love this! https://t.co/WBLuTJxbdH
A1: Barrier to blogging:
Who am I to talk about ___. I'm not an "expert".
Solution: I am an expert on my perception of ___.
Anyone wishing to begin blogging can get free coaching from . Some stellar educators to peer review/offer feedback
You too! Glad to be here to learn with the tribe! Such a great community!
Preparing to open a new school with a new concept and brand new colleagues-really reflecting on "why"
Morning Tiffany, great to see you here!
Good morning ! Todd, Elem principal in CA jumping in a little late but ready go!
yes. & to feel there is a space & place for your voice to be tangible & heard. To shout into the void!
Snaps. Snaps. Snaps. Great point.
I need to make it a priority. What you focus on grows, so maybe carving out an hour every week to dedicate?
Anytime you put yourself out there in writing through blogging, Twitter chats, etc., you are becoming vunerable.
I know and do this. Sounds like a great tool. https://t.co/UMLC19Q5Ve
Q: Anybody using as a feedback tool between teacher and principal for learning walks?
Blogging doesn't have to be book style! It can be short and sweet, or a little longer if you desire!
I have to repeat this over and over. Thanks . https://t.co/VdD07ksxzX
A1: Barrier to blogging:
Who am I to talk about ___. I'm not an "expert".
Solution: I am an expert on my perception of ___.
Never gotten over this. Hate to read what I write after publication because I want to change it.
Morning Carmen, great to see you here!
Agree! Sometimes, we think and then write, but sometimes we need to WRITE TO THINK. https://t.co/dOwSzwXxmn
Blogging helps me simplify what I think/believe and why I think /believe it.
Snaps! Just do it and then connect.
Great ? also would love to hear if anyone is using-would be a great way for authentic feedback https://t.co/dUVAHQUDqE
Q: Anybody using as a feedback tool between teacher and principal for learning walks?
Not summer break but doing reading on mindfulness and creating cultures focusing on wellbeing.
A1: Time to blog is an obstacle for me. I have a file of topics I know I want to blog about but I don't stop to do it.
me neither...looking forward to hearing suggestions
Looking to do so next year. I've moved from Sticky notes to email to Google forms. Want something deeper.
My grade 6's are having a cookie and lemonade sale this week. 80,000 evacuees.
is easy. has simple interface & is easy to use. - great for use with Ss.
You are right about that! What we share has a powerful impact on others beyond what we know!
Q-What great books are you recommending your teachers/team to read this summer.
thanks, Cynthia. I'm pleased when others enjoy it & find it useful, but I don't write for others, if that makes sense.
Hey , maybe you could audiotape yourself on your way home and turn it into a podcast, or Maybe I should do that.
Is that how it works?
Lol okay https://t.co/cH1Wz37kj9
I write about what's burning in my brain, clawing at me to be written. Then the audience finds me!
A1 https://t.co/Tf57xWcC8j is my blog! G8 Opp to share what worked & didn't! It's trying to find time & get it out to others
Let's not underestimate ourselves! Don't need a big title or notoriety for our findings to count! https://t.co/tcw0AdyZ6w
I feel like that sometimes but am realizing that it's also for me, not just for others. It's a release https://t.co/hEK5a7TQd5
A common fear about blogging is that nobody will read. Reality, nobody can read if you are not writing.
A1. Blogging is great- I write about my reflections. Does a blog need to be published?
Good thought to ponder. The other year I started a Facebook Page, is this the next step? Perhaps it is! https://t.co/61i6U69nAm
I'm always concerned that it won't measure up to the blogs I love to read myself
Great point. Do you typically tag folks when you post your blog?
agreed-sometimes is better not to ready anyone's for a couple of days until you've posted yours https://t.co/XErmSHhksr
I worry about perfection and measuring up to all the amazing blogs that are out there.
I read a lot of blogs, but feedback is important!
We are ruining joy of reading; strengths/weakness are good, but let's love books!
. I agree. I've started thinking of blogging as more for me than for readers. I need dedicated time to reflect.
Q: In order to lead Ss to acquire 21st c. skills, what must we do to lead Ts to similar skill sets so they can guide Ss?
And there it is! Thank you, You inspire me daily. :) https://t.co/zzkSUaxonF
I definitely don't worry about perfection. My 'bar' is:will writing this post b at least alittle helpful 2 me?
I need to remember this! Sometimes this is what keeps me from doing it... https://t.co/tguImfPPbH
Blogging doesn't have to be book style! It can be short and sweet, or a little longer if you desire!
would be such a great way to hlp save time for everyone involved.
I am loving Classroom Habitudes by and am considering ordering for all teachers! https://t.co/YH5Ds1cXKa
Q-What great books are you recommending your teachers/team to read this summer.
Hey dude! Glad you’re here!
How to do efficiently? Wld love to make it a priority but don't need one more big item on the To Do!
Books: Just finished “Grit” by Angela Duckworth and “Peak” by Anders Ericsson. Both terrific!
https://t.co/9td2zVw02X
Q for the group: How do you prioritize and make time for your own learning?
Blog by definition is posted online. So yes.
What would you say to a student voicing the same concern regarding a writing project? https://t.co/tB7IS2AYjw
I worry about perfection and measuring up to all the amazing blogs that are out there.
Do any of you have a word count you shoot for when writing blog posts?
Morning Deborah, great to see you here!
A plan for next year is actually to get Ss blogging and creating a positive online presence as they move toward graduation.
This is an awesome idea..immediate feedback and a way to have an ongoing conversation on your own time! https://t.co/Mn4dKF7E33
Q: Anybody using as a feedback tool between teacher and principal for learning walks?
I need to do this too - carve the time out.
Something that has worked for me has been sharing blog space w/ Not so much pressure to do it alone.
Keeping for later https://t.co/qCWFCCku6x
Q: Anybody using as a feedback tool between teacher and principal for learning walks?
Blogging stretches the writer, requiring a public, well thought out commitment to our ideas. https://t.co/07y92uwek0
Plus, research shows people don't have time to read longer posts. Keep short and more frequent.
Yes. Certainly more for me although I'm appreciative when others read it.
What are good sites to do just general blogging?
I totally agree. Just sharing barriers. Thanks for your encouragement and inspiration. https://t.co/oVG60o2nCw
I'd argue showing vulnerability while reflecting is a HUGE indicator of strength & willingness to grow.
This is a discussion we are having at the HS level as well. https://t.co/25wbzIz43B
We are ruining joy of reading; strengths/weakness are good, but let's love books!
Hey there, Todd! Great to see you this morning!
Great reflection tool and conversation starter. I also use it to educate parents about things we do and why.
Great to see you here Jason!
A1) Went to a session on bloggingn not long ago; speaker advised to keep blogs short, relevant
Mark here, elementary principal from MN checking in late! This was the view from my porch this morning! https://t.co/U3aqygooz2
I think an unpublished blog is a journal, no? https://t.co/xqnYMoVgD6
A1. Blogging is great- I write about my reflections. Does a blog need to be published?
Going to experiment - Not sure it will meet with approval but I think it adds more 'personal' touch.
I've started blogging. Feel that I don't always have a lot of relevant stuff to share yet. The "what" is hard.
That is great to know! Thanks for sharing.
I make the most of hidden time, when my kids are at dance or gymanstics I am working on my learning https://t.co/F2ISmGZ9vq
Q for the group: How do you prioritize and make time for your own learning?
Or to bounce the sound waves back? Quit absorbing, start reflecting?

Q: What does it mean for leaders needing to develop thicker skin?
We can inform parents of student progress through Schoology and SchoolView.
I love Indra's Net as a metaphor for blogging; we each reflect from our dew drop, across a web https://t.co/W5wC05gnYh
Agree. Best blogs have clear focus. Unless you're the next Hemingway, readers don't have time for random thoughts.
I'm with you. Have only written 2 short blog posts. Need to improve!
To serve & help learning grow, leaders must ensure they're hearing all feedback, esp. the not-so-good https://t.co/FeJAMBFfM6
Q: What does it mean for leaders needing to develop thicker skin?
Please share... https://t.co/S8tmcSM28g
I think getting started is probably the hard part. Need suggestions. What host site is good?
I started out weekly, the bi-weekly, now as the spirit moves me! :) if it feels like a chore, it isn't fun.
I think leaders have to be especially intentional about challenging the idea, not the person.
We can get that going. May 19th is a that some buddies are doing.
Planning to scope this afternoon
Blogging is an essential piece of teaching. It helps us reflect, flesh out ideas and make our classrooms more transparent
If you do it when/how you want to, it will feel like a "I want to do this!"
We did a year long read-discuss-act-reflect book study on Creating Cultures of Thinking. Great read!
I certainly blog in spurts, w/ the ebbs and flows of political discourse here in country... https://t.co/PphXn2UH9o
What session did you enjoy the most from this conference?
Great blogs facilitate reflection long after you've read them!
Q: How can u convince a small ind. elem. charter that they don't have a structured lit program? W/O offending leadership.
Perhaps,Depersonalize the drama. It's likely less about you & more about issues within the other
I love this! Leaders who have critical friends should use them as a mirror and lens!
Agree totally! Total focus on them, put your own story aside, listen with interest and an open mind. https://t.co/i4GR74OYqL
Develop relationships where people don't feel threatened if they talk to you. Accept suggestions and listen.
I'm getting the idea that I need to learn how to use Voxer.
thicker skin equates to resilience for me; knowing that leading up requires a level of disruption for others.
I guess it's about layering thought with words & images. All part of my figuring-stuff-out process.
This for me defines the best environment to work in & one that develops the best people! https://t.co/iIUCTCvFaL
Develop relationships where people don't feel threatened if they talk to you. Accept suggestions and listen.
I do a bunch of cardio stuff, biking and such. It is when my thinking is clearest. Sometimes bring a note pad.
Just take the plunge! Everyone's voice counts! https://t.co/TGKo1XFapL
I am interested in blogging, but I don't feel like others would feel what I have to say is important.
yes, not a quick read. See if there is a local national writers project near you. Highly recmd becoming certfd
Another MUST READ Starting A Movement Frameworks to build a clear vision & culture for lrng 4 all
I can always grow from constr crit but struggle with blatant attacks.
Q What are your must reads for the summer?
are great for half day! For personalization we use ports, pd buffets, twitter chat/webinar reflections.
After reading a book by Disney imagineers I try to keep my journal be to jot things down @ anytime https://t.co/qAhzQMcXMr
Me, too! I have a couple of places where I'm always trying to jot down ideas. Great suggestion!
Q What makes good ? What is your preference/need to continue personal/professional growth?
Bldg capacity, moving forward withchange &improving S outcomes. Not allow vocal minority 2 drown out silent majority
I agree - I dislike cheap shots that leaders don't care about the kids when a decision is made.
Respectful push back - you can’t have “I don’t want to risk offending anyone” as the filter for essential advocacy.
Did this last year, sent out a resource for guidance & then let them go. Came back at the end to share https://t.co/olApEATjBX
Q for the group: How do create personalized professional development for your teachers?
We are a district w/Google Classroom. Wanting to communicate more than grades or numbers.
Thicker skin=being open 2 having thinking pushed, probed, questioned, being willing 2 walk the talk, learning 2 listen w empathy
I agree - we need to cultivate it!
This school year we were able to choose our topic with a team. We received credit for every meeting.
Haha, yes Neil is the poster child!
I completely step away. My mind will always return to education, and then I know it's time to get back to work.
My Voxer question is how do you find groups to connect with?
My critical friends are my lifeline. Can be unsure, vulnerable yet safe from judgment. Hope I offer same https://t.co/SsvIXmmCyX
. all great leaders have a group of critical friends that speak honestly & openly -honest support
THANKS for the encouragement! https://t.co/dkblHzUsJ3
I felt that way too- but everyone has a message and something to share! Just give it a whirl! Can't wait to read yours!!! 😊
conf. in June 12 will be great... has an awesome conf. in ATL mid-June as well https://t.co/ltNS3FeCan
Q What do you plan to attend this summer & why? Anyone going to ?
And those core values should be evident to all as a guide in how decisions are made!
Absolutely. https://t.co/ZxiUcvNEJz
I agree - I dislike cheap shots that leaders don't care about the kids when a decision is made.
Time and I'm way to distracted by Twitter...lol! I need to think more about the short and sweet blog! https://t.co/QrVd9xfhpZ
It's just so goofy and fun and can also be moving and artful.
Encourage T voice and choice. Make PD relevant to both T and S needs. Include Ts in planning process. https://t.co/47GCuDtDTb
Q for the group: How do create personalized professional development for your teachers?
There are Ts who won't approach leaders but rather send a spokesperson in for them. Not a good environment. Need relationships.
I'm trying to think about how it can enhance my work as a consultant.
SOunds like a plan. maybe we can learn together https://t.co/9JtYiJCzOM
I'm getting the idea that I need to learn how to use Voxer.
. absoutlely - for helping to keep us accountable for what we are doing - helping us learn & lead
ALL excellent, a week long cohort in a quiet resort type area, all inclusive. No single sessions. Well worth the $$
parent sneaking in... maybe it's however they want to be notified. What are they already using on their phone?
Does data reflect no or slow growth? Sometimes seeing the data hits people. https://t.co/tGxZgXanzN
Q: How can u convince a small ind. elem. charter that they don't have a structured lit program? W/O offending leadership.
Caring! About Ts, Ss, growth and development, achievement and contentment! KRScienceLady
Brian - I'm intrigued - can you explain more about this?
Please Vox me I want to learn more about it. Pros/Cons and who it made an impact.
Choice, choice, choice. I want to be challenged and learn new things.
Summer Leadership PD - there are $1,000 scholarships available for Cambridge Leadership Institute
https://t.co/9td2zVw02X
EdCamp style. PD can't be one size fits all bc what Ts are doing differs from T to T. Offer many opps. https://t.co/3ENwm1twPq
Q for the group: How do create personalized professional development for your teachers?
This often the case for me as well https://t.co/kKvEQRM9Z4
Blogging doesn't need to be done in one sitting. Some of my best pieces were done in chunks. Start a draft & save.
My audience is my PLN, and I am their audience. Most effective/cheapest PD there is, if only could get credit hrs
Enjoying family time in beautiful SC! Can't chat today! Next week!
Facts, not emotions. Don't get caught up in emotion, but don't dismiss issues b/c of emotion either. https://t.co/LJtuj3kdME
Q: What does it mean for leaders needing to develop thicker skin?
Not only is it an amazing book but is very approachable; I did a Twitter chat & he participated
I agree! I assume my mother will read it and anyone else is a surprise. :) https://t.co/vFYVkljVs4
sometimes blogging is for yourself. Others enjoying it is a side effect
. I use the snap stories - but it’s not professional - just for myself -
I'm going 2 add this to my list. TY https://t.co/RKORyRumLo
thicker skin equates to resilience for me; knowing that leading up requires a level of disruption for others.
Trying for more frequent & systematic. Emails are great...but time consuming.
And there are times when our jobs are very isolating - which I think makes relationships more important https://t.co/j4ZK1tigRR
WOW, we all need that type of ! What an incredible idea
Ouch! I'm definitely being hazed on using Slack!
I've seen teachers use video & presentation tools to capture student success & share with parents.
Yep! I need to be better about dedicating time to reflecting through blogging
to take risks & ignore saboteurs nay sayers! Sticking neck out for all decisions best for kids!
I like all the ways for docs and links to be shared.
Can you tell me more about this? I am not that far away and I am always looking for meaningful PD.
Great suggestions, thank you.
So, my musings or the crazy thoughts and ideas that run through my head about edu and keep me awake at night???
Linked to goals, vision, personal and/or personal interest, benefits can be seen for Ss & Ts. https://t.co/DPSGi7epxc
Q What makes good ? What is your preference/need to continue personal/professional growth?
Indeed. Needs to have purpose & meaning!
Very true I have been apart of book study on voxer where author contributes https://t.co/017RIJ3V1e
Another note on authors and book studies: We LOVE our readers, and most authors I know do book chats for free - just ask.
Love that litmus test! Thanks for sharing, Larry!
texts are quick! Funny what a few words can tell us or reassure us.
We do filmmaking. I should clarify: I'm looking for more formative feedback.
I encourage you to try Voxer.
In August, I had teachers write and post their own professional oaths. Helps everyone stay grounded.
. it allows me to explore a lighter side of life - fun & less structured
So true! I really like options for a variety of learners. You can't limit it to newbie or techies only
Another on my reading lists is Mathematical Mindset by Jo Boaler
-Remind leaders that it is about the school, not you. It is hard to detach, but essential for one's ego. Ss first.
Good point. I do that, but not systematically yet.
. I'm going to do any weekend edcamps in that come up. Maybe as well if I can manage it.
great point! leaders often become the focal point for dissatisfaction even when its not about them https://t.co/WFTkVstJKm
. leaders having a thicker skin is about having a higher tolerance for disagreement. Being the mature one.
Yep but for me I need the reflective time. I haven't made it this semester, but I need to do that more.
Would posting a story a day be something to aim for?
Having the courage to take a stand for what's best for students... even amongst rock throwers
Awesome teachers value student choice, but inspire them to choose the challenge and not the easy. https://t.co/CBe8VjuSte
We have to teach others to argue or critic in this way.
Another book for particular audience - art and math teachers: Beautiful Evidence by Edward Tuffte.
A little planning goes a long way!
I have to approach an issue on 2 fronts, emotional and factual. Tricky at times but essential. https://t.co/ycI0qANDmd
Facts, not emotions. Don't get caught up in emotion, but don't dismiss issues b/c of emotion either. https://t.co/LJtuj3kdME
Q: What does it mean for leaders needing to develop thicker skin?
ALL of it...maybe one at a time https://t.co/VVDlsHFdC4
totally. I'll DM you my snap handle and get you started. Or was it voxer?
Any of it. Lol.
Yes, our math consultant last week recommended that to our math teachers also! https://t.co/wL6ff7dK0x
Another on my reading lists is Mathematical Mindset by Jo Boaler
Snaps. Snaps. Snaps. YES!
Could you use Kahoot or PollEverywhere kinds of tools?
Good PD is designed to grow both strengths and weaknesses. These are discovered after reflecting. It makes us more passionate.
I love taking them into the pit to ask the tougher questions. I want them to always ask Why? Why? Why? https://t.co/rZSRVCEVep
Book to read for summer: Transformational Literacy by Ron Berger.
Results Coaching is awesome! I need to read innovators mindset before gets here! https://t.co/s6nYofg8QQ
Innovators Mindset and Art of Coaching among tbest I have read this year. Also consider Embedded Formative Assessment by Wiliam
Can set blog to autopublish on social, but I almost never do. If your audience is parents/peers would work well.
Greatest T moments r when S ask 2 research, build, create—that's when I know I've done something right! https://t.co/bRlKPVFz4E
I love how you phrased that!
Cannot remain silent about urgent needs. Our kids deserve better https://t.co/mO0kNktMKU
Respectful push back - you can’t have “I don’t want to risk offending anyone” as the filter for essential advocacy.
Yeah having a reliable process to be able to switch on when you need it. Awesome. Helpful.
I've felt that before. But the I learn from others regardless of presentation, so I push forward to post
A: Personalizing PD for Ts begins with meeting them where they are, exploring their needs, giving resources and connecting them
THANKS! Helpful advice! https://t.co/oZd5uRvEOP
Wordpress has worked well for me for the past nine years. As for topics, stick to what you have passion about.
Good PD is relevant and helps me grow. Love Twitter chats, reading blogs, etc. communicating w others! https://t.co/eaU8CsHrbu
Q What makes good ? What is your preference/need to continue personal/professional growth?
I agree - too often the silent majority feels powerless - we need to give them a voice!
Alignment with your district, school initiatives and a need to grow, develop, explore for the participant
Yep leaders should never be the focal point for ongoing disagreement.
YES! Just started & am working to email formative results w/that. Working on how to push results out.
Musing along these lines: Qs poking at skin prompt defensiveness; Qs probing vision, prof integrity foster dialogue
. it’s about helping to create a deep culture with a variety of people - not building an empire -
Q-TIP things meaning Quit Taking It Personally https://t.co/Q3IVOxUvre
Q: What does it mean for leaders needing to develop thicker skin?
Great point! If our Ss & Ts don't benefit, there's definitely a disconnect somewhere. Meaningful
are you in the leadup voxer group? When I dove in it created tons of possibilities
Jo Boaler is the bomb! Took her online Stanford course. Amazing. https://t.co/xc0qjQiaca
Another on my reading lists is Mathematical Mindset by Jo Boaler
“: Book to read for summer: Transformational Literacy by Ron Berger. ” ok, add it to my list
Good PD is both relevant and actionable. https://t.co/MARkJNrEmz
Q What makes good ? What is your preference/need to continue personal/professional growth?
start by letting go of our preconceived notions of how Ss learn that are often based on how we learned https://t.co/jmsnTNowFw
There's a balance - I agree, Connie!
Giving Ts options, voice, encouraging them to develop relevant PD for their teams and colleagues
Love this! https://t.co/3pR175pRXG
In August, I had teachers write and post their own professional oaths. Helps everyone stay grounded.
I wrote a few blog posts but nobody read them so I stopped. Ideas 4 how to attract readers?
Would not be appropriate for official stuff. But perfectly fine for praise and feedback
Utilize meaningful conversation and inquiry. Ts facilitate and allow Ss to lead their own learning! https://t.co/yWYPgClPmI
Can’t help myself -another book recommendation - the best environmental book of the year: “Getting to Green” by Fred Rich.
Sounds like something you would enjoy! https://t.co/JcoWKMzHgN
Another on my reading lists is Mathematical Mindset by Jo Boaler
sometimes are through no fault of own-need to know how to acknowledge dissent & redirect 2 postives https://t.co/AHXKhKrXrP
Yep leaders should never be the focal point for ongoing disagreement.
It's the connections more than anything! Building your PLN is the best!
I learn so much from my on Twitter. Totally changed professionally
The power of choice! https://t.co/bc4VWMWr0n
just last summer we did 8 diff. Wrkshp for Art Ts in district to choose from. They had more fun then previous PDH
Anyone ever run book studies with their staff using Voxer?
August bk study w/tchrs having several to pick from. Meet daily to discuss section. https://t.co/aQ0lycU89v
Yes, our math consultant last week recommended that to our math teachers also! https://t.co/wL6ff7dK0x
Another on my reading lists is Mathematical Mindset by Jo Boaler
Yes! I'm pairing MI w/ Growth Mindset. Have you read "Fish in a Tree?"
Too much PD scratches teachers when they don't have an itch. Great leaders know how to cultivate strategic "itches."
Recommend all bloggers leave a link with our sign off this morning.
Help them see themselves as learners and school as something that is done with/for them instead of to them
You guys have a great thing going!!! I'm ready for part two. :) https://t.co/jr2YZ785yM
It means so much to us that our purpose with is being accomplished! https://t.co/B3c98UdZga
Can't wait til 5/19, was a game changer for me last week.
Keep wearing your ❤️ on your sleeve! It's what makes us GREAT for those we lead! https://t.co/yfHKcub5ps
I struggle with it, as I am a "wear my heart on my sleeve" leader. I want people to see that, but... https://t.co/obZ3Jxh1Gg
So important! Can be tough to keep this perspective... Education is such a personal profession!
This is a terrific idea; I need to grow my Voxer network so this can happen! https://t.co/rMlHzr2baZ
Anyone ever run book studies with their staff using Voxer?
You are reading machine! love it!
Teachers shared the responsibility.
Start with Why and you can't go wrong. Then, your mission is easier to explain to parents, and get others on board
Lucky you. Here in Minnesota it's 35° w a feels like temperature of 27°!
Thanks for coming to my rescue, Cynthia!
what is your user handle?
Snaps. Snaps. Snaps. Going to use that! Thank you.
Good PD is not PD but PL; it appeals to a person's needs/desires; gives insight; where leader & attendee both grow
That's what I do. And I save them.
Awesome Hope you make it to this summer too!
Anybody else jumping on/off chat to load up their Amazon cart with recommended book titles?
Morning Danny, great to see you here!
Right on - “Multipliers” is great - see also Liz Wizeman’s blog at Harvard Business review.
. I agree although you might be able to use it for specific learning.
Don't stop writing! Keep writing for yourself.
It's great to see you here and awake, Teresa!
- Descriptors often cause people to look no further. They are defining labels instead of points of progress.
Snaps. Snaps. Going to use that! Thank you.
Have participated in many but not w/staff. Tried to get one going but many reluctant to explore.
I use conversations & questions that will need to be answered the next day...Ss anticipate me answering & I don't! Ss come back!
Hi Teresa! Hope you're having a great weekend!
I'm glad my first whale watching experience was on a perfect day. I saw "Big Momma" humpback with a baby humpback
Morning Michelle, great to see you here!

Haha, he really likes it.
I may need to place an order today..... :)
it was "The Innovators Mindset by
The best PD allows for voice and collaboration. It is meaningful, useful & practical in the sense that it can be put into action
LOVE that book - a must read!
I hope that everyone has read “In Praise of American Educators (And How They Can Become Even Better) by DuFour.
That's an awesome way to phrase it. Going to use that. Thank you.
Was doing the exact same thing! And opening blog posts to read later!
The reluctance is what I would fear. Not everyone is at the same comfort level with technology.
so much for "sit n get". We need to experience & explore-great point!
Happens so often; sense need for change, so "oust leadership" instead of meaningful solution thinking https://t.co/jDC0W74fcZ
great point! leaders often become the focal point for dissatisfaction even when its not about them https://t.co/WFTkVstJKm
. leaders having a thicker skin is about having a higher tolerance for disagreement. Being the mature one.
Headed to learning forward Texas in June and will get to spend a day with Mr. Night. Adding the book! https://t.co/NTHiH9Vcc2
Love this too! SO hard to choose. I actually need to write a review of it for MIddleWeb https://t.co/2SBGp0VlxK
Better Conversations, Jim Knight
In sidebar, I just asked: Could alt goal be growth from starting baseline, not in relation to grade-level standard?
I can wait forever for a response...... LOL
As your reflecting you could audiotape your thoughts and turn it into a podcast. I need to learn how to do that myself.
Sunny and gonna be 80ish here in Beaufort, SC. I feel my reading will take a backseat!
My enthusiasm was definitely a bit deflated but I'm not giving up!
Wow! Love the quote and your statement - that's huge!
How do you move from PLC & PLN to Communities of Learning ?
Passion and enthusiasm is contagious! Don't give up!
"Thicker skin" to me, means to keep the main thing, the main thing in any and all interactions.
exactly...patience is a superpower Ts have! The awkward silence creates so many answers!
Probably one of my favs of all time!
Platforms 4 performance provide purpose-an inner motivation that can spark curiosity.Ex: Author's Chair https://t.co/nO0ONdpnqs
You are right! We read it couple of years ago. It's hugely helpful in focusing my energies https://t.co/3IdbfpROz2
Shifting the Monkey by is a great read for admin & T leaders too
Awesome teachers don’t waver from high expectations, but persistently challenge how we get there. https://t.co/cvggjKKXYO
@bethhill28@PrincipalPaul Instill growth mindset
Morning Scott, great to see you here!
This year I insisted that growth be measured at baseline. Grade level is limiting for Ss and Ts
- I'm with you. I like to talk about so many different things! Where to start? https://t.co/ig1iBbtZUx
What keeps me from starting is making the time + determining a focus. Wld love to learn from you all! ! https://t.co/LXS9jWYMbj
jump in when you're ready.
So very true-we are passionate about our why and believe our stakeholders will be too.
Score! https://t.co/meftSHcwVN
I'm glad my first whale watching experience was on a perfect day. I saw "Big Momma" humpback with a baby humpback
Another thought on the meaning of tougher skin...communication helps IF it's meaningful and real. https://t.co/KZjFPzjIQJ
Can I get an amen? Absolutely amazing and inspiring read by a truly amazing leader. https://t.co/cnjI9IAXR3
I hope that everyone has read “In Praise of American Educators (And How They Can Become Even Better) by DuFour.
Personally I need to hear the ?, process it, think about it and then formulate a response. I need the time as an adult.
move from compliance thinking (mtgs, minutes, forms) to "why" (vision, goals, S impact)
Not having a thick skin means you'll go a 100 diff. directions.....and go nowhere.
Thanks for the great chat this morning, I have to drop on out. Keep on pushing on!!!
I'll look to catch yours and join any requirements https://t.co/HmQCYVsxXu
We can get that going. May 19th is a that some buddies are doing.
Planning to scope this afternoon

I'm frustrated with leadership that only focuses on testing scores and school ratings instead of our kids.
At a recent summit, we were encouraged to "lean into our discomfort." Good advice to grow.
. I'd love to hear more about your school, as I would other members. Please share.
Leadership team will receive resources to help guide them in transformational conversations.
We are ALL learning together! This is a community of learners. These educators chose 2 B there ! https://t.co/uTNSpc9lle
People learn what they want & need more than what they can.
so many leaders don't do that...Ts want immediate response just like Ss! Leaders think through a ?.
I got the BEST advice from the amazing : Write what you care about! Just get started!
Thanks for the Saturday morning inspiration.
I've done that once (or attempted) but it could be very fruitful I'm sure https://t.co/bChXYSraon
As your reflecting you could audiotape your thoughts and turn it into a podcast. I need to learn how to do that myself.
. If you have a blog about the school your starting, I think that would be fun to read.
Thanks for another amazing today! Have a great day and enjoy the weekend!
How's that played out this year? Meaningfully different impacts on S learning or T practice?
Thanks for the EdCamp experience - good night from Australia and enjoy your weekend
I love this Beth! And I live by it too.
