Looks like I’ll be teaching GCSE Physics next year (AQA). First time, sad Biology is my specialism and I’m Psychology HoD! Any recommended CPD/resources/websites? #asechat
AQA Bio GCSE teachers: tips for making the pH vs. enzyme activity required practical work well? Amylase always works too fast to get results - done in <10 seconds today (maybe that was the heatwave working) #asechat#scichat
Frome's reprise by WADA and UCI due to acceptance that test was not able to distinguish excessive dosing. How many of our science experimants use invalid tests? #asechat
We have a three story building. I think I started from what if all the chairs were on the top floor and went from there! Luckily the 6th form usually get the idea without analogy #asechat
Anyone done a modelling activity of energy flow in an ecosystem? I’m thinking of something involving chucking ball pit balls at students sat in rows like a pyramid. The balls represent energy. #asechat
This video is incredible:

A curved free kick is basically this but sideways.
You get the football to spin by hitting it off centre.
Players don't know how it works, they just know that it does!

Oops - sorry Linda - sitting outside in garden just finished eating and I forgot what time it was! And no we weren't making carbon! We don't do that!!! #asechat
Yes, different balls 'grip' the air by different amounts, so curve differently.
Also depends on the construction on the ball, some are 'squishier' than others so grip the foot more, so easier to get spinning.

The knuckleball is interesting too.
If you hit the ball at the right speed without any spin, then the air around it stays turbulent rather than laminar, so it's movement is much less predictable.

I took a year in industry working in football, then carried on working there whilst finishing my physics degree, seemed logical to do some football physics for my final year project! #asechat

At one time there was too much chemistry in the peloton. Lets hope the future of chemistry in cycling is restricted to diet, hydration, clothing and componentry #ASEChat
Have a look at this if you get a few mins. Very interesting. Did you know a diamond has hydrogen atoms? This also tells the story of bucky balls really well. #asechathttps://t.co/vCslBEAzMC
