We learned about Twitter. It went pretty well. I'm hoping some are lurking the chat tonight.
WOOOHOOOO welcome Matt. Hopefully will join too, mini MBC training!
lunching is good. I need to do more of it myself (or maybe less)
Did you share by chance. We are going to share that more this summer
that's what I'm working on!
Looking forward to this. I've missed you two.
Yes I did! It's so easy, I thought it would work the best for them
Q1 Share your favorite quote about having a positive attitude. Don’t have one memorized? research, or create your own now!
We are normally a slow starting group, but seems like more lurkers each time. Lurkers are welcome soon they will join in
No pretty images tonight, so be sure you are looking for the questions From https://t.co/vFwpoGCpmA
Q1 Share your favorite quote about having a positive attitude. Don’t have one memorized? research, or create your own now!
Agreed. Perfect for experienced or newbie chatters for sure
A1: My motto: "I choose to make a difference - always."
All I know is you two really got me jumpstarted on edtech. Such a great User Conference u did!
A1 Mistakes might not give you answers. But they give you questions for a greater answer. / not sure who said it?
Late to the party, but here I am! Beth from Sulphur Springs
that is some great research!
“Don't make a habit out of choosing what feels good over what's actually good for you.”
Eric Thomas
A1 "Challenges are what make life interesting. Overcoming them is what makes life meaningful." Joshua J Marine
Late today again! Claire from Hooks
Something awesome at school: I received honest feedback from Ss about what they want from choir next year and got GREAT ideas!
A1-"The ones who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do." -Steve Jobs
A1 THANK YOU 4 "Let us move forward with boldness and not retreat back into the comforts of the past." David March
go to the magnifying glass and type then it will show you everything going on
welcome Claire glad to have you here tonight!
appropriate for our week. haha!
Questions are spaced 10 min apart tonight by design. Figured it might help everyone multitask and really read what others post
You know how to really get me hyped up. I LOVE that Student voice idea SO MUCH
A1: One of the best principals I worked for taught me to monitor and adjust. I keep that in mind when things are headed south.
Jobs would be one to know about changing the world.
A1: I found this right before I started my first year at SSHS, and it's been a life changer https://t.co/raBJyFJk8N
A1:"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men." Colossians 3:23
Q2 How does the atmosphere in your school/district impact the ability to have a positive environment in your classroom?
I'd say you have taken those to heart and are living well by those ideas!
I used the "what if" with no "yeah but" format as best I could!
Second time this week that quote has come up. I think God is trying to tell me something.
I love this!! https://t.co/0ciV9zxjlp
A1:"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men." Colossians 3:23
Q2: Starts with leadership. If they are positive, it trickles down into the classrooms. If Ts are upset, it's hard to hide it
A2 The more inviting a school/district is to trying new things, staying positive, the easier it is to replicate inside classrooms
its Yeah BUTT though you have to get the correct form of But for it to truly work ha ha
A2 the school atmosphere influences how the students feel about being at school. But you can always affect your own classroom!
I almost put it like that, but then I thought I'd keep it profesh.
In our roles, we HAVE to fight this and make a positive change!!!! So true
A2: when people feel valued, they're more likely to "buy in" to what someone is "selling"
you were working with S's probably best.
A2 Our schools may be the most positive portion of our students day! We have to get it right every day, too important to miss
A2-When T's know they have the support of admin, classroom environment is fantastic. Lack of support is never a good thing.
A2- positivities comes from all of us! Starts with a smile! It's a choice you have to make everyday.
I agree! I'm fortune, we have a great admin team, others aren't and you can tell it affects them/students
Sometimes you have to close your door. Let the storm rage in the lounge and the office. Rise above the drama for the students.
A2: It can make or break it! Sometimes you've got to fake it until you make it!
VERY GOOD twist on that. This is mostly a missing piece of the puzzle that was right under your nose the whole time
Absolutely! https://t.co/LQR99tRilS
Sometimes you have to close your door. Let the storm rage in the lounge and the office. Rise above the drama for the students.
yes, it moves fast. It's easier to go through the link. Try the link and see how you like it https://t.co/aNOrJaLjHd
So true! https://t.co/9e4HmUhZ6e
Sometimes you have to close your door. Let the storm rage in the lounge and the office. Rise above the drama for the students.
wonder if we have any admins lurking tonight?
Small things can make the difference. A smile, asking how their day is, going to events.

I have one lurking next to me and watching the Cubbies. Haha!
We're watching the cubbies too! Happy for Jake Day!
an advice for using your phone?
A2 When teachers are treated well, it trickles down into the classroom. Our admins treat us very well=positive atmosphere!
Smile all Shelly from DeKalb
Q3 What types of things can you do in your CLASSROOM to ensure that there is a positive learning environment? Any tech ideas?
Its pretty tough to follow on a phone. Just search hashtag and read, see question image
I search for the hashtag and then click on ALL Tweets
Sorry I'm late! Lacey from DeKalb
A3 Notice the "techsperts" in class. Recognize them, let them help others. Many times, they are kids that struggle in other areas
Q3 Ask for feedback and ideas regularly from Ss DAILY helps create a positive learning environment
Remember to follow for all questions. They will always come from there first!!!
A2 Liking the place you work will make you more productive, so positive culture has a powerful impact. Unhappy people drain that.
Q3: Be happy! Strive for an engaging classroom, change it up, LOVE kids!
never too late to join. Life is busy at 7:00 pm for all of us, glad you are here
A3 Tech can add fun to learning like Kahoots.
glad you are here tonight to share!
A3- cool idea for first of the yr- ask students their theme song and play them the first week on shuffle as kids come in!
A3- meet kids at the door with a smile!
A3 Love Kahoot and Quizizz! Gamification=fun=positivity! My kids recognize the Kahoot music on entry!;)
A3 Tying your Ss story to your lesson. Let them know they live the content.
A3-Be positive, happy, & encouraging. Simple, but contagious. Attitude is a choice.
true in order to get S's to feel heard, we have to ask and listen. They as others have said they want to buy in more
Q3: being honest and genuine with students has been great for my students.
A3: Build relationships. Know their interest. Showcase their work. PRAISE them.
A3- Offer a smile EVERYDAY and when you see the students struggling with something-make a point to ask why and see if they're ok
Q3: which can also manifest as making BIG mistakes in front of Ss so they see your human side
A3 Ss aren't born knowing how to interact on social media. I train them on what's appropriate when their fingers do the talking.
A3 Set norms, hold kids to high expectations, talk TO S’s not AT S’s. Be sure S’s know their value to your class and the world
welcome glad you joined in
Oh my gosh. I love this idea!! https://t.co/5N5DOjRzvq
A3- cool idea for first of the yr- ask students their theme song and play them the first week on shuffle as kids come in!
kind of like the walk up songs in baseball, could do that often through the year
Did it this yr w/ hornet tv! Kids got so pumped when their song was playing! https://t.co/crvX95Xr01
Oh my gosh. I love this idea!! https://t.co/5N5DOjRzvq
A3- cool idea for first of the yr- ask students their theme song and play them the first week on shuffle as kids come in!
that passing period time is like GOLD. So much can be done in the few seconds they walk to and through your door
Exactly! ⚾️ https://t.co/XYrf4fh1LR
kind of like the walk up songs in baseball, could do that often through the year
can't beat a handshake and a smile! Or a good old pat on the back :)
we could connect baseball to anything, baseball is LIFE
Q4 What can we do in schools 2 ensure positivity rules the day? What are YOU doing? How can you encourage leadership
A4: LAUGH with your Ss and find the joy in how you collaborate with them.
Constant reinforcement and modeling. It's a ? of wills.
A4 Today we gave feedback on Staar sim scores. It was tough, but we still gave each s a POSITIVE peptalk.
A4 Showcase great things happening in your schools. Tell YOUR story, YOUR way. Share Awesomeness https://t.co/KoUyzfXcpq
A4 Find a coworker to praise daily. Find a student in each class and let them know what you appreciate about them.
A4. Leaders need that smile and pat on the back as much as our Ss!
A4: Ts are just like Ss. Show them some love and it rubs off.
We were on the same thought process! lol
praise students for the little things "I love the way you came in today, you're ready to learn like a champ"
On a discussion board, I deleted negative posts and had students start over. Yeah, I'm that teacher.
A4 Celebrations, positive behavior reinforcement cannot only happen at staff time or on announcements.
A4:Let's notice, note, & applaud one another's strengths. We all bring something to the table. If we could really work at this...
A4-We do a People of Character box. Kids write when people do kind acts and 1 S wins a prize each mon. Change has been awesome!
i gave up running when I stopped playing baseball, so marathons are not in my vocabulary
A3: grabbing onto the positive things the one S has who never does, but don't forget the one S who always does
A4- build those relationships! Starts day one. Compliment and praise!
A4 Schools need to expect ALL to do their part! In my class, I follow rules that I expect kids to follow.
A4 cont- we also send a positive email to 3 students' parents each week school wide! Parents and students love it!
A4 When you notice it, you acknowledge it, then you share the story.
A4: Pay Attention! When we care, they know! When we don't care, they know! Be the example! But be real!
It helps if all Ts are on the same page with expectations
I teach HS by the way...kids STILL love that stuff 😋
A4: does a great job with her Gratitude Board at SSES!
My students REALLY liked day and asked if we could do again before the end of the year.
they have to know you still believe in THEM even if the test wasnt what they wanted
A4 constructive feedback with a solution or alternative expectation with Ss. They don't know what they don't know.
PERFECTION so true, their job is TOUGH and often very thankless!
Yes, we Ts NEED to feel encouraged! Hearing an 'Attagirl/boy goes a long way.
A4 Reflection of practice, routine, and response for Ts should be the norm.
A3: have a group task that you don't know the answer to & be a member of one of the S groups
Area 8 Lets show how positively awesome we are by presenting at TCEA 17 Check out details here https://t.co/5Zk8FGbKnL
A4 Avoid basement talk, just cause others want to complain and be unhappy doesn’t mean you have to be.
Area 8 Lets show how positively awesome we are by presenting at TCEA 17 Check out details here https://t.co/gNdQNiHwmE
I like that. If you cant post correctly we just wipe it away and let you try again
A4: To motivate Ss after spring break, my team started the "be more" campaign. Constantly push 6th graders to achieve.
A4: wall- students who do well during a grading period get their own # on the Thrive Wall
YES YES YES. If we ask them TO, we DO. I wouldnt ever use my phone in class cause policy said they couldnt!
Q5 Share some of the amazing things you are going to do with your classes to end this year with EXCITEMENT?
Yes the 1 or2 that wont play along make it tougher, just have to make it more fun to join the flow
try to make the "do over" a lesson in maturity too!
What types of things were in the campaign?
Heck I still need second chances at maturity and im 43 (i think)
A5 We are starting a research project on "change makers," regular, potentially unknown people doing great things.
This is true for Ss, admin, and the rest of the audience
show them that you still want to and love learning!!!! S's love it when they can teach the teacher
lol! Me, too! Do over, please!
A5 We are creating movies/plays of student written fractured fairy tales.
Start Mondays with motivational vid. We have personal goals/academic goals sheet we review with Ss.
A5-Writing letters to our favorite authors! We usually hear back from a couple!!
plenty of updates to my website with 🇩🇪 connections i.e. Music vids
A5: we're getting ready for our Broadway themed concert. Sad does happen when singing Hairspray
Stealing this! Letters to authors! YES.
sounds like a good "group effort" to keep that on their minds
A5 cont. We are also Skyping someone new every week to get out of our bubble:)
A5: Count down the days on the board! Oh wait, let's NOT! I agree summer is fun but let's help encourage against this. ✌🏼️
Q5: We are going to do a Classroom vs Classroom Challenge with !
A5: but legit, keeping them busy with meaningful work that's also fun - sight reading music for next year, dissecting pop music
A5 showcases of great work. Exciting projects to add to e-portfolios.
YEP! You can't expect kids to give 100% if you are phoning in the last 30 days and counting down...loudly.
A5: We are also working hard of Academic Showcase projects. Ss get proud of their work!
I do have a countdown for my kids. Almost like a goal to encourage my struggling Ss.
They would rather hear how much you are going to miss them. The challenge, the laughs, the success, the stories.

A5 We'll finish the year with the novel Wonder. I hope to have Ss build a google site highlighting research topics from the book
A5- lunching and learning with some great Ts. Trying to create a weekly show with my kiddos.
Remember to follow the people participating tonight. Growing your PLC with people that clearly like the Positive is ALL GOOD
Hope you share the link for us to peek in on the awesomeness!
Q6 What role do students play in creating a positive learning environment and how can we incorporate them in the process?
I will. I say "hope to" because our school "social calendar" is still being tweaked.
A6 Ss led service projects. Ts and admin give the opportunity, they work magic.
A6 Choices. Give them choices. Surveys, class votes - Google Forms ROCK for that.
A6 S's must be willing to learn, but in truth we cant stop TRYING to reach them all. Lead by modeling our love for learning
Q6 Recognize the positive students. Make those connections with kids, model model model. They are watching everything we do!
A6: I agree with choices. My favorite thing to do with projects is make a choice board. Kids like picking
A6 Ss designing lessons for next year. A year in review in disguise.
A6: like said earlier - Set norms and follow through.
My hubby has his Ss set norms as a class, more accountable for maintaining a positive environment
A6-Choices! When a student gets to decide-they take ownership!
A6 Giving Ss a voice in class, a choice in "how" they do a project, a Student centered approach - they feel like they matter.
A6 Ss make all the difference. When the strongest kid in class stands up for the weakest, I know I have the greatest job.
