Good morning #BookCampPD! So psyched to chat this morning. Elyse from North Texas! Special Ed & behavior support teacher. Supporter & encourager! #Path2Serendipity
@KMICHELLHOWELL & @KATLALEX The 2 of you posted the most tweets in response to activities during our focus on "The Path to Serendipity." Please DM me your address, phone # and which one
of the five remaining FAR - Friends and Reading books you would like sent to you. #BookCampPD
Q1. Why is it important for educators to reflect on their path? If you were going to ask one question to initiate someone to start reflecting, what would it be? #BookCampPD

A1 Reflection allows for someone to pause and think about their path thus far. What they’ve learned and how to move forward. To initiate reflection, I like to ask “What have you implemented from an idea you’ve learned about this week?” #Path2Serendipity#BookCampPD
A1 If I don’t look in the mirror in the morning, I don’t know what the world is seeing when I walk out the door. If I don’t reflect, I don’t improve. Helping others reflect can be as simple as being their mirror. Asking for permission would be my Q for them. #bookcamppd
A1. Reflection is uncomfortable at times because we do not want to admit our mistakes. However, reflection is a healthy practice that motivates imusbto grow in ways that are unimaginable. Reflection of teachers helps us to have dynamite lessons! #BookCampPD
Q1. Why is it important for educators to reflect on their path? If you were going to ask one question to initiate someone to start reflecting, what would it be? #BookCampPD
A1: Reflection is crucial for finding out how to fine tune, and move forward with a gameplan that will up the ante and make positive changes to teaching/interacting. A question to start with would be, "How did it go?"
#BookCampPD
A1 Reflecting is where growth happens. It helps us to mindfully determine the best path to take. I would ask others "What is your favorite way to reflect on your teaching?" #bookcamppd

A1: In order to grow as educators, we MUST reflect on everything we do.
One question I would ask would be:
What are my student doing differently (for the best) because of my practice?!?

Q2. At the end of each chapter there are "Serendipitous Lessons." Please share on of your favorites or, if you haven't read the book, respond to one shared by someone in the chat. #BookCampPD
A1: Let's just be honest - we can't move past our mistakes in life if we refuse to think about them. I would ask... "What is one event that changed the course of your life for better or worse?" #BookCampPD

Great reflection question!! Sometimes we continue on a path just because it is the one right in front of us. We need to veer off sometimes and start in a new direction. #BookCampPD#Path2Serendipity
A1 As I'm a firm believer in building on the positive, I always start by asking Ts to reflect on what went well (in the lesson, class, trimester, year....) #BookCampPD
A1: Reflection is where learning & growth happens. Where we look at what worked, what didn't, what we can do better. I'd ask them to reflect on somthng that went very well. When we reflect & create more positive experiences, it builds passion & creativity for Ts & Ss! #bookcamppd

Oh my gosh you guys!! Can we do this every Saturday morning?? These reflection questions are giving me all the feels!! You are amazing! #BookCampPD#Path2Serendipity

Me too!! I am right there with you...build on strengths! When we feel strong and positive, we feel like we can do anything. And we can! #BookCampPD#Path2Serendipity

Me too...life changer!! Like so many, meeting @gcouros opened my eyes to new levels of reflection and personal growth. And, that path lead to The Path to Serendipity. Thanks @gcouros :)
#BookCampPD#Path2Serendipity
Yes, & I want Ts to be able to identify the positive (instead of having to tell them). Educators have a tendency to be hard on themselves which can quickly lead to burnout. #BookCampPD
#BookCampPD Q1: As a coach I often ask "How did your lesson change as you moved through your day?" Great teachers often evolve from one class to the next.

"People don't need you to add judgment to their difficulties." And that's why it's hard to be honest with others when we reflect. Easier to say something safe than to say something true. #BookCampPD
A1: If we don't reflect, we get left behind. Students needs change and we should be thinking about how to best meet those needs. If we don't think about how we are or aren't meeting those needs, we are doing our students a disservice. #bookcamppd
A2 not an exact quote, but close: Failure happens - let it happen for you Ss while you’re there to help them through it. Acknowledging and supporting someone through failure creates confidence and a bond that isn’t easily broken. #BookCampPD
Delaying judgment is a good idea - and so is not judging at all unless you have a better idea that you're willing to give to the person and help them implement #BookCampPD
A2 I watched this great TED talk yesterday that this reminds me of... Aim for perfection and stop fearing failure. Use what you learn... grow... aim toward perfection.

A3: So often the negative reputations of certain kids follow them around school--when I go into these situations with an open mind, I don't see these same behaviors. Some kids just need the benefit of the doubt to start on even ground with everyone else. #BookCampPD
A3: We can't work against deficit thinking without believing and focusing on Ts & Ss strengths. Focus on "can" over "can't" #bookcamppd Jumping in late!!
A3: People tend to act/react based on how we treat them; if it is always with negative, they become defensive, less productive; relationships suffer--think if all that time could be spent building people up-oh the great relationships we would have-and the gains! #BookCampPD
A3. I remember walking into a room with 50 - 100 families and feeling so terribly nervous. If I would have made the assumption that they were marvelous friends, wanting only the very best for their children (true statement) my jitters could have disappeared! #BookCampPD
A3: Well... we hope people make positive assumptions about us instead of looking for skeletons. Same with the kids. Are you holding them to lower expectations subconsciously after you learn about something they've done or been through? Because that's dangerous. #BookCampPD

A2: 6th stop. I control me. I used this to build a much more positive relationship w/someone who was not very kind to me. I decided I wouldn't be sucked into the sadness. Not only made ME feel great (which surprised me), but made our interactions 100% better! YAY! #bookcamppd
A3 I've never EVER considered this question. I suppose the opposite of making negative assumptions - which automatically distances you. From my experience, positive assumptions draw you closer and have you wanting to learn more. Great for the other person, too #BookCampPD
Liking people -- students and coworkers -- is a choice. Looking for the positive first makes it so much easier to make the right choice, and that is huge in our classrooms. #BookCampPD

A3: Positive assumptions can definitely help start a great and true relationship with students and individuals we know little or nothing about
#bookcampPD
A3 Positive assumptions gives people a chance to be their best in our eyes and to improve from there! Sometimes hard to live, but everyone deserves a chance, a fresh start every day. #4agreements#BookCampPD
Yep. And when I say this I don't mean that we shouldn't personalize learning. I mean that we shouldn't tag students as "hopeless" because of a rough past nor "destined for greatness" because of where they come from #BookCampPD

A3 Making positive assumptions allows for a positive mindset and culture to be created. Is everything always positive, no. But choosing to be positive makes a difference. #Path2Serendipity#BookCampPD

A3: I learned in my prof. reading this yr that everyone really wants to do well. They do! This helped reframe how I look at things that aren't working & how I can help. Always assume the person wants to do well & there are other factors I'm not aware of too! #bookcamppd
Allyson, @AllysonApsey thank you for stepping to the forefront and being the initial book that is highlighted during #BookCampPD 's summer professional learning - FAR - Friends and Reading! Such an amazing lead learner you are!!
