A1 I say collaboration is an adventure because you're always going to learn something new, grow, and you have no idea in what ways or how when you start. #OklaEd

And the award for best professional collaborations in a Romance! Yeah for the best collaborators such as @room20awesome, and a cast of other characters #OKLAED
A1: Comedy. Because it's funny how we always get interrupted and can't really collaborate at all due to other issues going on beyond our control. #oklaed
A1 I have experienced I have experienced most of those and often all in one collaboration (even Romance if you consider how much I love learning new things) #oklaed
If you love adventure and collaboration you need to finally apply for a NEH summer fellowship/institute. I have collaborated with some of my colleagues from last summer all year long. #oklaed
A1: Adventure for sure. You never know what you are going to get when you are often in uncharted territory and doing something innovative! Those are the best collabs. #oklaed

A1: romance! I am in LOVE with my team! We respect each other and our differences, we build each other up, work with one another to do what is best for kids, and consider ourselves Team Awesome. #oklaed
A1: I would say Adventure, I think everyday should be an exciting learning adventure for our students, so why not feel that way about my learning with colleagues! #oklaed
A1 Mostly Adventure, I love sharing ideas and bouncing ideas around; but if I'm honest sometimes It's more of a Fantasy (as in it only happens in my fantasy world)...not enough time for real collaboration to happen. #oklaed

A2 I need a sounding board to get me started, time & space to organize my thoughts and someone to touch base with whose just as excited about the project as I am. Someone is is strong in areas where I'm weak, but who appreciates the differences. #OklaEd

a2) I need time to brainstorm and throw out big ideas and benefit from and editor. @CatJackson28 did a nice job when she worked for me. (Too big Dr Cullen.. gotta tone it down! Students will hate you!) #oklaed
A2 Digital is best for me so I can add to it. Need background noise, but not anything that will capture my attention, especially if the topic is something I don't really want to deal with. #oklaed
No #oklaed chat for me. I’ll be homework-ing again. So I still get some credit: I’m the poster child for INTJ—except I’m not a bad communicator. Everything else...I’m the person your momma warned you about.
No, but really I don’t care about print or digital - I want to intake information with coffee, a PEN (what monsters write with pencil?), and a public setting because I get nothing done at home. And then collaborate. But alone first.. #oklaed

A2: Coffee, an open mind, motivation, a solid soundtrack (or a white noise generator), comfortable environment, and working tech or good pens. Did I mention coffee? #oklaed
A2: i need a sort of quiet space, i like a bit of background noise, some nice music playing, coffee probably, SOLO PREFERRED, and definitely a good ol' flair pen. #oklaed
A2. Believe it or not, I've learned to be very adaptive for this question. I can rock it whether it's white noise, me with my earbuds in rocking my playlist, in absolute silence or collaborative.

#oklaed#EIPT3043 Hi sorry im late, my name is Lindsey Murphy and I am an Elementary Ed major at the University of Oklahoma! I want to teach 4th and 5th grade, what is some good strategies for pre-service teachers?
Q3: My collaboration teammates and I probably spend way too much time trying to plan meeting times. We are all busy college students with too many things to do in too little time. 🤷🏼♀️ #eipt3043#oklaed#thankfulforgoogledocs
A3: Being in a different environment I collaborate with my colleagues mostly on developing PD, creating strategic plans for #oklaed, and writing research papers. It is one big constant collab @k20center.
LET’S DO THIS!
Q1: Choose a genre that best represents your experience or attitude with professional collaborations.
Explain your choice.
#OKLAED#CollaboratED
You don't currently follow me and I won't advise you to I'll let you come to that realization on your own. Ha! I will however let you know if you have any ?'s or anything else please let me know. I am ALWAYS here for you and others! #oklaed
A3: As a student, most of my collabs are with other preservice teachers; we determine how to identify where students struggle and which assessments suit their needs best. #oklaed
My #readingrules would be I have to have a game plan! Some sort of lay out of the goal and task and some sort of plan of how to get there. And who doesn't need some snacks and a coffee or pop 👌 #oklaed
A2 I can collab on the fly but I prefer dedicated time and space, freedom to move and stand, snacks, breaks, access to WiFi and electricity. Clear goals and action a good also a plus. #oklaed
A3 - With the other WH teachers at my school most of the time is spent on test creation. Collaborating with others a lot is getting feedback on new things I am trying in my classroom. #oklaed
A3: Totally other with @TeachFromHere unless I need math help with a S. With @tbarnes211 we collab on most of the checkmarks, but def love to cometogether and talk about what we are reading...well, what HE is reading. #heisbetterthanme#oklaed
A3: i'm living that #formativeassessment life right now. love working with my peeps on that! otherwise i love planning that involves lots of organizing and restructuring. gimme a google sheet and let me PLAN IT. #oklaed
A3: Currently we are working on changes we need to make to our in school remediation/enrichment hour to ensure we are not wasting anyone’s time. I have also been collaborating on how to improve Algebra I scores, and who is the better housewife - Erika or Lisa. #OKLAED
I think I messed up my personality test. It says I have a Consul Personality: popular? Nope! Altruistic? Yeah. Fashionista? Nope! I guess it's about 50-50 here. #oklaed
A3: I don't have a collaboration team this year unfortunately. I have reached out on my own for some things though which are mostly focused on student and teacher morale boosting. #oklaed
#OKLAED We know a lot of administrators will be in the chat, so we made sure to post our standards and objectives on the board-- “I can effectively tweet using multimodal content, including but not limited to GIFS, when appropriate.” #OASELA3#OASELA7
A3 My #OKElem peeps keep it real with issues that are relevant to our classrooms, best practice, classroom management, school climate, the list goes on... #oklaed
A3) Personnel. Because well...we would hire more if we could but we team to try to find ways to steal someone else’s or beg someone in another field to come on over for about half what they’re currently making... #Oklaed
#OklaEd A3: The most important effort of Educators - facilitating skills important to learning, during formal education AND in lifelong learning. Skills including Effective Learning, problem solving, communicating, and working in groups.
A3: It's March... let's be honest..we are starting to collaborate on Test prep! Ugh! Just being honest..... WE hate it, but we have to do it! #oklaed when will this insanity end??
A3: Curriculum and all things related: planning, pacing, assessments, resources, because I’m the Secondary Curriculum Director, and I immensely enjoy that part of my job! #oklaed
A2) prefer print for ease of annotation (and smell of a good book) but digital can work—blend of professional and person—silence is golden—if I’m cold, hot coffee, if I’m warm, iced tea—pen or pencil along with a highlighter!! #oklaed
Q2: Share your personal needs (or #ReadingRules) for productive Collaborations.

What subject or grade level are you planning to teach? This is something I have adapted from the National Endowment for Humanities for my own classroom - https://t.co/tUeSMy3bsa#oklaed
A3. Most of the time, my time spent collaborating with others is about what would work best for the students in different scenarios and how to adapt my own teaching to those needs. #OklaEd
A3: Our subject area teams spend the most time creating CFA's and then reviewing the data for remediation/enrichment. Grade level meetings are for any concerns or ideas, more of an open forum. #OKLAED
#oklaed#amen Thank you for that, sometimes it seems scary to me that I will be the sole person in charge of a classroom, any advice for how to not freak out if mistakes are made?
Technology in Reading/Literacy= .29; Collective Teacher Efficacy= 1.57; Collaborative Learning= 0.34; Micro Teaching= 0.88; Evaluation and Reflection= 0.75; Elaboration and Organisation= 0.75; Seeking Help from Peers= 0.83 ← This is especially important during #OKLAED chats!
Because they learn all the techniques for becoming distracted and distracting others. Some wear it like a badge of honer. Not sure I understand why. #oklaed
A3) three big ones right now: Literacy Design Collaborative #LDC—Literacy across the curriculum ... Higher Order Thinking Skills (I love a good case of the HOTS) ... and ACT skills across the curriculum #oklaed
A3. This is the season of developing structures, content, ideas and testing them. (In the old days, many would call this the "chitterling circuit" where one polishes his/her set and tests it to see how effective it was.)
#practice#oklaed#paytheteachers
A4: As an Instructional Coach, that is what I focus on the most. I try to find the most practical aspects of what I learned and give it to those who need and want it. #oklaed
A4: I usually come back revved and ready to go - and I tell everyone who will listen. But that doesn't usually last as long as I would like. But #oklaed ideas get passed along often!
A4 When you learn something great it has to be shared quickly, but sometimes the people that benefit the most aren't ready for it. In those cases I wait for the questions then I break out the "Have you tried...?" #oklaed
A4: I mostly use what I learn in my interactions with others. Often, I’ll try to recap what I’ve learned on my Twitter feed or Instagram story, though I’ve yet to do that with my professional accounts! (For those interested, it’s @teachkoutahi for both) #oklaed
A4: I basically can't contain my excitement after I get back from PD and I just try to shout it from the rooftops! I try to think of how to implement something then share something practical that we can all try together #oklaed
A4: Usually through one-on-one, morning sessions, early release days, or during plan times. Have done all but it’s important to always share what you know #oklaed
A4: I share through emails, texts, bring info the our next plan, show them how I'm using it! After edtech I had HUGE ideas that led to writing a grant for our grade level and they all are on board! Excitement without being pushy! Show but don't force! #oklaed
I think it is just like students. They assume the material is not valuable and tune it out. Unfortunately, they are also like Ss in that they don’t even get a chance first. #oklaed
A4) this often depends upon nature of that PD. I guess lots of sound bites via Twitter. I also enjoy the Social Studies Coffee Talks I’ve started in my district. #oklaed
#oklaed#EIPT3043 I am hoping for 4th or 5th grade! I feel like I am able to relate to the older Elementary kids and am very comfortable with them! Thank you for the tool, and I will definitely be reading it over!
A4 If I attended the PD by myself, I make a presentation solo. If several of us attended, we share the presentation and plan who will talk about what. #oklaed
Have you met me? I can’t let go of something that I have learned that is #awesomesauce. Like USING THIS CHAT FOR PD! Who knew #Oklaed was so dang brilliant?!! WE are #amazeballs
A4 - I tend to tweet during particularly engaging PD. I have also presented to my campus and taken home action items which may or may not become a part of my practice. #oklaed
A4: oooo a good tweet for sure. probably get on slack and chat with teachers from my school there. i also like a good shared google doc for observations and lists. #oklaed

I just sit politely and learn as much as I can. Yes, it may be more boring than I prefer, but others have been through far worse. I can manage it. #oklaed
I am reading a book right now that was suggested to me on twitter.. It is How Colleges Work.. https://t.co/mEzC86NV8K Its really old (1988( but its blowing my mind. I miss reading. #oklaed

1/4 Yesterday teachers from the OKC and Tulsa communities met to discuss plans for a strike. Two strike dates are being considered. Plan 1 is teachers will begin a strike on April 2nd. This is called the nuclear option as it prevents mandatory statewide testing.
Q5 #OKLAED RR: The 4 Domains of Literacy: Speaking, Listening, Reading, & Writing. On average, adults spend 70% of time engaged in communication. 45%= listening; 30%= speaking; 16%= reading; 9% writing- SO 75% of all communication in adulthood involves listening and/or speaking.
A5. Define "professional reading?" I'm learning more from places like #oklaed chats, collaborative talks with the homies, FB group discussions, etc. than I am from those educational journals?
#realtalk
Q5 #OKLAED RR: According to the 2007 National Endowment of the Arts Report, “nearly half of all Americans ages 18 to 24 read no books for pleasure” and surprisingly, “teachers don’t read any more often than adults in the general population” (Kittle, 2013, p. 147).

A6: I just started using Twitter, and it's been amazing! I just started jumping into collaboratinb with educators outside of my building, and I never knew it would be so beneficial and life-giving. It reignites my passion almost daily #oklaed

A6: #oklaed I tried Voxer but got confused... I need a tutorial on finding ones pertinent to me apparently 🙄, what I did hear was interesting tho! #pdbearchat

#OklaEd I’ve had a few that challenged me to Consider the topic / question deeper BUT the broader interactive discussion usually doesn’t happen. We always thing we could help it be better (hence, the answer) but likely not - for reasons I don’t understand.

Twitter is my fav because others can join and add beyond core group. Voxer is okay, but limited to who is added. FB...use that to share cute pics of Gremlins w/family out of state #oklaed

A6- I use twitter almost exclusively. I have gotten my Dept to work on GDrive and it’s a miracle worker re: collaboration. I’ve used Voxer a little, but old habits die hard, so Twitter sustains me. #oklaed
A6 Twitter has been the best for building relationships and sharing ideas. I'm part of an MIEexpert GroupMe and MIE Team where I'm building relationships...the key is to jump in and join the conversation! #oklaed
Okay, my personality profile says "Purely analytical careers are often too dull for Consuls though – they need human interaction and emotional feedback to be truly satisfied in their line of work." Anyone know of a job like that!? Guess it fits! #oklaed
Q6: I have never heard of Voxer before. But so far I love using Twitter to get to know other educators and be able to share ideas. #EIPT3043#OKlaed#CollaboratED
A6: Obviously Twitter, but I also work with some great people in our district and when I can steal time I love to pick their brains and get their thoughts and opinions. #oklaed

Uhhh…its what all the kool kids are doing these days. Its a walkie talkie/texting app. Easy to group several people together and congregate on the inter webs. #oklaed
I just whined how I really really need a new book but I have to wait until spring break. So I'm reading Goblet of Fire to hold me over #oklaed#teacherprobs

A6: Twitter, #AlphaSquirrels Reflector, and Facebook for AP Gov that’s the best PLN in regard to classroom practices, sharing materials etc. since we all share a google drive. #OklaEd
I love OneNote for taking notes at conferences. I use the app on my ipad. I can use my apple pen, organize them in tabs, and then have it all on my laptop later. #oklaed
A6: Twitter! 😂 I don’t check it daily, and am wondering how teachers set aside time for professional social media. Also wanting to get more involved with Twitter chats, like #oklaed and #langchat! #howtotwitter#oklaed

A7 - PD is best when it is geared toward what you need. I love just being able to sit in a room with professionals and work through ideas and logistics. #oklaed
A7: ___ professionals are developed - which means something that pertains to my profession - even those pesky things no one likes (testing, FERPA, etc.), but should also include class-specific skills and knowledge. #oklaed

With goodreads you can look at compatibility with friends, make an annual reading challenge, join groups, etc. I like to see what friends have read and rated similar to me. #OKLAED
A7 Twitter PD is one of my favorites because of the interaction and reflection involved. For face to face PD: Hands on or collaborative PD are engaging...keep it meaningful! #oklaed
A7: #PDis an engaging way to increase my professional knowledge/insight so that I am better able to do my job; its giving me tools that increase my enthusiasm; it’s introducing me to new people and new ways to engage students. #oklaed

#oklaed come spend time in my classroom 👍 I’m only 10 minutes away! You are welcome anytime- we do WholeBrainTeaching, and learn like pirates! Lots of fun! #pdbearchat
Professional development should provide ts with practical tools that they can implement. If it is too abstract, it can be wasted time. Never wast their time! #OKLAED
The most effective ways that I experience PD is by going to them. Knowing that I will meet people who I am familiar with helps enrich the experience! We need to get the word out to pre-service teachers. They are missing out! This pass PD at the OKLA was LIT! #oklaed
A7: I want what I want when I want it. PD should be all about growing ME. Right?!?! Love the Edcamp model and choose your own adventure setups of conferences. #oklaed

A7:) When you are able to learn something that is you can use immediately in your classroom....that's good PD. Usually for me the subject specific PDs are more effective. But I can usually tweek anything to get something out of it. #oklaed

A7. Play with (insert tech), making the connection of the new strategy to my personal life (first) then analyzing how it can be used in the classroom/school/district/organization.
#braingames#oklaed
A6: I love Google for collaboration. Everyone working on the same doc or contributing to the same spreadsheet keeps us on the same page...literally. #oklaed
A7) my ideal #PDis collaborative & interactive...which is challenging in a room of 80+ people at the start of the school year (right @mcappsparks?). Coffe Talks make this easier (right @room20awesome?)
my 2nd PD pick would be book studies (self & group) with application #oklaed

And you have done a GREAT job getting connectED! All pre-service teachers need to build their professional learning (virtual) networks so they have support and efficacy in the profession! #OKLAED
We had one! #OKLAEDreads! It was a voxer group and on twitter. We did a YAL series. We should totally restart it! Use the hashtag: #OKLAEDreads#OKLAED if you are interested!

But that requires each of them to download the app too, right? The ones who most need the info would be hardest to convince...I fear. Email challenges some of them 🤦🏼♂️ #oklaed
A7: PD is necessary. It should be about areas you want to grow in and areas that you identify as a weakness. It helps us get better, and it helps us be learners along with our students. We're all learning something! #oklaed

A7: PD is... self created in OK. Those chances to collaborate F2F with folks across the nation is largely a pipe dream (unless you get a sponsor) ☹️. Twitter ROCKS, but I really miss those “unconference” meet ups. #oklaed#DebbieDowner#sorry

A7 -PD is most effective when it meets my particular needs. I have attended some PD that I thought it didn't apply to my situation; however, upon reflection, I got something out of it. You need to keep an open mind. #oklaed
A7: Good PD for me is when it leads to brainstorming ideas of how to implement. That passion is hard to replicate and can’t be forced. Collaborative PD with passionate people is a home run. #OklaEd

Q8 #OKLAED RR: Teachers need to read a lot (two words). We need to live the reader life to be reading role models; to grow, we need to invest in our reading process: knowing who we are (our personality= MBTI and our #readingrules) and where we read best (our environment).
Q7: #PDis getting to work with a small group and usually focused around tech/apps. Just really getting to talk through ideas helps me get the most out of any PD, regardless of the topic. #EIPT3043#oklaed
A8 - The Innovators Mindset by @gcouros is phenomenal. Also recommend Hamilton by Chernow. If you love the musical, READ the book! And for something to get lost in and enjoy check out any of the Cotton Malone series by Steve Berry. #oklaed
A7: i want to be able to chose what i work on and when. i want time to collaborate with colleagues and have time to meet new people. i don't want to just sit in a sit and look at a power point all day. #oklaed
Q8 #OKLAED RR: We need to have accountability. We learn by reading, so as we seek to promote the development of our students as lifelong readers,we need to also promoting our development as teachers of reading& teachers who read. Reading a lot is our professional responsibility.
A8 right now I’m reading for my grad classes....my favorite PD books right now are still Teach Like a Pirate and anything by Mike Rose because he’s an edugod. #oklaed
THE FINAL STEP:
Tweet a donut to a fellow #OKLAED‘er (or someone outside of #OKLAED?) who you think would be a fun collaborator and tell them why!
