Good morning Marcie from chilly New Orleans
My tweets for the next hour will be devoted to
Good morning from a frosty but sunny Nashville.
Good morning! Br Christopher OSB from Atchison, KS checking in.
Good morning from mid-Missouri!
Good morning~! Going to be a beautiful day in Omaha.
Troy Berryman from Norfolk, Nebraska
Good morning from Columbus, Ohio....
Good morning from Rhode Island
Great to see everybody! Did you see the started by
Good morning from a beautiful NJ- one week left n Student Teaching, gone unbelievably fast!
I hope it has been going well! Congratulations!
looks like this is the 3rd year has hosted this. Fun way to dip your toe into twitter.
can you repost the Holy Door you are using for your students for the Year of Mercy?
late congratulations on your Football Title!
question: strategies to make the make the most of the remaining time before Christmas break?
Good morning from sunny NE KS
Don't stop teaching. Once you do a "fun day" you are done.
I like to increase collaboration- i.e. lit circles in reading, write-arounds in language, sci labs
perfect question! I'm mixing it up with different activities. I found a QR code activity on TpT
affirmed time and time again about why I want to go into teaching. and how thkful I am for a great PLN
hands on, things where students move, use holidays as theme for your lesson
This is so cool! I wish I had seen it earlier. She has beautiful products on her site.
Nice thing about it when it's closed is the emphasis on the works - I hope this can be our focus.
You have an advantage in having a PLN for support and learning as you go in glad it has been positive :)
Can you share the link to the product?
This is pretty nifty! Wish I'd known about it earlier I would have encouraged my staff to do it.
Good morning from Pennsylvania
co-organized some hands-on activities- Principal managed to have kids decorate community Chistmas trees, too,
Morning Kathleen. I hope you are doing well
My tweets for the next hour will be devoted to
teaching in my science class is pretty hands on already, how to keep up the intensity as attention wavers?
I made it! The dogs demanded to be fed first however. Good morning1
Busy like everyone and all is well.
We also avoid Santa/Christmas trees, etc. until the last few days before vacation. Until then, focus is on Advent
Is there a hashtag for the Year of Mercy?
can you tie Christmas theme into topic and no matter what age - I love to do Brainbreaks with
colleague doing point of view - so writing as last Christmas cookie, Christmas trees, etc. so still hits content
Also, understand that it will happen no matter what you try. The best you can do is control it.
I am showing Advent videos on the show and will challenge the students to do their own.
true statement--- and I'm not that far behind them.
Haha! Friend of mine made an Advent playlist on Spotify that I play
hardest part is when we feel it too!
. allowing students choices of activities that cover a range of objectives. >ownership ---> >engagement.
Always keep it fun...which the accolades I am hearing tells me you already do!
Yup.... Keep teaching, but enjoy the excitement.
I say, we have to cover this in our curriculum, being a student is your job! I'm honest with them.
A lot of responses are focused on maintaining best practices, good reminders! thanks.
I imagine you've seen the advent video? My kids loved it- love idea of students creating 1.
When we can try to harness and direct it - goes as well as it can at this time of year :)
Love this! this is something I can see you doing.
Tell them Santa is watching.
I also find phrasing things as "challanges" or "missions" instead of projects helps. Non edu terms!
My students what to have an Advent adoration between the two days of finals...not going to turn that down!
Thank you will share with our faculty.
Rick LOL! Doesn't work so well on middle schoolers
LOL, or the Elf on a Shelf! Or have you seen Chuck Norris is watching?
The Advent in 2 minutes was a hit w/ my kids
Saying the Divine Mercy Chaplet during out House meeting on Tuesday. Many have never done a chaplet.
speaks volumes to culture of school- that is so powerful to hear! https://t.co/VFrArMF0Qr
My students what to have an Advent adoration between the two days of finals...not going to turn that down!
Bahaha! Love the Chuck Norris idea- I can see some kids loving that
so is the official Year of Mercy hashtag?
Hi I'm running tutoring this am. Looking forward to catching up later
Saw a flashing sign on road back from Omaha saying: Santa's watching, drive safely.
Some nice ideas on Catholic Identity from
. Combine that w/ color coordinating for feast days made gr8 discussion.
My 8th graders are researching O Antiphons and creating movies.
Actually made me shed a tear...been aiming for this for 6 years!
and if you search it now, you'll see lots of content.
Let us know if you find out it is or isn't!
Have our penance serves on Wednesday- cautiously optimistic that I can pull a l8 move and have adoration too.
I love that! I would love to see the final product!
our students are hungry for the Catholic faith and traditions!
ABSOLUTELY! I can't speak enough about the students I currently have. They are phenomenal.
shame twitter doesn't have room to quote St. Augustine-all hearts search until they find Jesus.
I think Cardinal Newman gives us good precedent to run with it.
New question: ideas on how to respond to colleagues who are incessantly negative about ss?
fav = remember all are created in God's image and find God in them. Can be challenging but better perspective
great question! I had to say 'avoid' them, but that's too easy. How about responding with your positives?
Need help with this. Sad to say I usually close the door so I don't have to listen
A2 Ask them if there is at least 1 positive thing they can say about the student.
I give about 15 questions i.e.What does the Latin word ero cras mean? Who formed the word ero cras? They like it
Sometimes it is necessary to avoid those who are extremely negative.
As a New Teacher- really want to hear responses- my staff has been positive- curious to hear others experience.
We can laugh; meanwhile Ts elsewhere stressing about "high stakes" stuff.
his school is pretty small...that would be quite the challenge :)
Don't. Or "all are wonderful in the eyes of God."
They can use MovieMaker , iMovie, or any media of their choice.
. As principal I confront the negative T. Colleagues should let the P know what your observing. No tolerance for that
good morning, from the cold, but not cold enough north, sorry i'm late, had to clean behind sick dog & energetic grandson
I do try to discern if it is a legitimate gripe or if there is a need for a vent session, esp. if the T has a tough S
I try to surround them with positive people and those not afraid to tell them they are negative.
Will try to post some after completed.
There are not enough likes for this! Negative colleagues can be a drain on the spirit of the school
Personal experience- there's good in every student- behavioral difficulties often rooted in something else- e.g stess.
Challenge, is one tough S translates to vent against whole class. Not kosher.
very good suggestion! Our school environment, as positive, is so important
The real question is, "How do they treat the kids?"
think each of us needs our friends we can gripe to, get it out, move on Some colleagues never have anything nice
Yeah. That does become toxic. Ick
just shared your email philosophy yesterday with a friend because we have been so stressed!
DH is a teacher, he gets to hear my rants!
Sounds like someone who isn't praying for Ss, maybe not even talking to them.
There's a difference between a bad day and a bad person.
No but it can change the dynamic of the class and that can be tough to deal with
I have two friends that we are able to share with and move on.
Prayer, so important to remember! Love the children first, then teach them~
They were my "Hail Mary" Ss. Said it before they came to class. She always helped.
spot on. I just hate confolronting neg behavior in other adults!
years ago friend prayed for patience, got a very challenging class to tear her patience
He can definitely relate then!
Someone said they sit in S's seat and pray there.
When in negative Ts presents find good to say about Ss. Some classes are a challenge but always one good strength is there
Dealing with this this year. So hard to separate one Ss bad day from everyone else's good day
In that spot now. It is difficult.
1st Day- I said I'm learning just like you are- and we're all learning from Jesus- I'm leading room. Students bought in big.
Hate seeing adults treat students poorly. That hurts
The move on part is key, good to have friends (or a dad :) who gets this and forces me to do it
OK ... I need to hear this philosophy.
Using that suggestion down the line- that's powerful idea. https://t.co/YP3dnBRUVM
Someone said they sit in S's seat and pray there.
Do not run away from that. That needs to be confronted.
They don't care what you know until they know you care!
This mindset has been a huge help for me- what good can I focus on?
I've looked at some challenging Ss and saw them as barometers. If they act up, I'm not giving them my best!
Consider the idea stolen.
what are your email hours again?
Good morning Sorry for the late arrival...needed the extra sleep today.
Mother Teresa has a great quote-escaping me- about seeing Chrsit in everything- have it on my motivational quotes wall.
That I don't run from ... but I only can do so much there
perfect, I'm going to send it to my friend & print it for myself, have that kind of class this year
thanks for stopping by! It's an open chat and a really great recharging session!
. Turn email off when I'm home. Don't read emails during the weekend. My friends and family know how to contact me directly
I need to take a picture and share our 7th grade homeroom wall, all quotes and positive words shared by Ss.
Sometimes we need to step back & let the storm pass before we act.
It's hard, but the kids are the reason you are there. The adults need to be adults.
You just affirmed probably my biggest suggestion from colleague- good hear from another voice
Sometimes it is not something a colleague will accept from you - turn it over to the principal
another colleague does that- hopefully can find room next year for both walls-
Ken is a wise man! Hearing this from him, gave me permission to do this.
You have to do this or you will be working 24/7. You need to rejuvenate!
I have an EA now, life is so much better! way more learning happening with support positive male role model
we've been practicing for our season- love this time of year. kids excitement is great-
Wanted to take moment to thank Many amazing opps lately. My PLN helped me get here. Grateful for all of you
Major prob in ed today: too many are there for the job, not the kids, not the mission.
One of my favorite principals does this. She makes it clear to everyone.
Any suggestions for boosting staff morale? It's at an all-time low!
My president forced me to do it. People know how to reach me if they need to.
Frankly that is driving me crazy lately. Big struggle.
I don't know, some just got stuck in a rut and seem to like being there.
good question! I was thinking on doing an Advent Angel program but ran out of time!
Some just don't do change at all ...
It is heading towards the least-daylight time of the year. Must be intentional in our attitude.
That's when your Ps needs to challenge them or force them to try new things.
Change is hard for many we can only suggest not do for them.
I was looking for a Ding Dong Ditch for winter. We did something with a Turkey 2 years ago.
I make my Ts change. That's the only way our school can get better!
This group has encouraged, coached, educated me so much over the last few years and I have grown from that
Honest advice I got during student teaching... Don't let the turds get you down.
right! I am a fan of "Look at how much fun & learning we are doing! JOIN US!"
Either on personal or collective level, I try to start with practicing gratitude. Find 3, 5, 10 things thankful for
. Not enough that a T says the love the Ss. The Ss must know that they are loved. -don bosco https://t.co/By1VCuPz4K
OK...maybe not 'make them' but truly encourage them...
You would think December would be a great time to be a teacher, but it is the worst.
And the bureacracy tends to give these folks cover if they do the minimum.
We are there too. tried notebook. Put positive note and gave it to a T. They were asked to do same for another T.
I try to make it opportunity to up intensity: so much to do, so little time!
I think we need to start sharing positive things we're seeing in our classrooms at each faculty mtg.
Which begins to eat at those who are giving it their all and just creates circle of negatives
Well...some of my Ts left because of what I was 'forcing' them to do...look at my great Ts now because of it!
I hear you. Why some don't retire or move on is beyond me.
https://t.co/lZkTIKOtAs How many of us have done in class as an activity- loved this video- saw awhile back- integral to do-
Oddly yes.... because they become more negative b/c you are positive.
You can't fake it. They see right through it.
I'm doing with my classroom, 1 picture a day.
I'm contrarian enough to sometime fireback with even more +! :-D
But many leaders won't force.
I've done that before...had students make them and post them on teachers' doors. Will do that again.
The hardest part of a Ps job but life & spirt of the school is what they are striving to have
Best thing I did was create a Ps Council. Ts had to volunteer to be a part. They help make decisions.
started by and lots of fun with great resources
Technology is forcing many out. And turning in real lesson plans and curriculum maps. Too much work.
Then accept God has placed you HERE and NOW for His purpose. Trust! Ain't easy but it is necessary.
Do it. Can you imagine them complaining, "Ughh... all he does is care about the kids?!?!"
it's very challenging, our school is adjusting to a lot of change & uncertainty this year
I attended other sports events in addition to coaching X-Country-ss became more positive in a day.
Truly believe the all my jobs were placed by God...have much proof of this!
Everyday is a happy day for Barb. That's why we love her!
Also have to see if my place is where God wants me now . We are "in discussion" right now!
A thought... do the negative people realize their impact? I hate to think a teacher would intentionally be mean to a kid.
I have never understood that either.
LOL, yesterday was my name day and students said I will be the Patron Saint of Smiling
I think too God pushes me to be uncomfortable enough to make changes. He knows I need to be pushed
:) I'm at that spot right now too.
Tough ... big decisions. Will pray for you too!
I am finally in my happy place. Despite the negative I love where I am at and my students.
either way, here we are, today! And today is all we have
until my EA was hired afraid I was one of the negatives, tried not to but extremely needy class, no support
Thanks! Will need them...you will be in mine as well.
Hope they are not intentionally mean but are just not a happy person something missing in their life.
That is important to understand when trying to help them.
Amen! Enjoy every day with the kids. They keep me sane.
Marcie does a great job of sharing out the good news in her lab.
For a small percentage, not only Yes, but it's a calculated strategy. Can't just be me - I have to spread it to all.
Thanks Barb! Proud of my kids. The work is hard fun.
I am going to stay where I am until I die. When I retire I will be a volunteer again.
I did a lot of praying & reflecting, prayers were answered with EA, feel so much better
Love it, but it is so true :)
I see some who are just unhappy people and spread it to all around them. Ts and Ss
Thank you for a great chat need to attend to housework now.
Marcie, I know starting these new ideas takes time, but so worth it! Thank you for sharing.
remember:our Call is to the Mission of Catholic Ed for the Church. Live your call and inspire Ss https://t.co/Rqz2ITDLDe
Yes! Just as they lead you to insanity! But that's what makes it worth it!
that was me all fall prayers answered now for time being at least
This has been great, but I have to start on my errands. Have a great week everyone.
When I find my first teaching job for Fall 2016, I hope that is exactly what happens for my career!
Glad to share. Again, my PLN helped me learn about and try new things. Glad to share.
have a great morning. , thanks for the open forum!
Thanks everyone! Great chat with recharging tweets.
it was much needed today! Thanks for the questions.
Mindset applies here - static mindset = strategy to protect vs. fear. Need to be open to be happy.
You have no idea how much I prayed and worked to get here.
The month of December is open for moderators! Interested?
Always an invaluable experience, , have a great weekend! you're all great examples of why Catholic Schools are amazing
Have a great week everyone! Thanks
Storify from today is gonna be a keeper.
Have a great day! Omaha was beautiful yesterday. Said I prayer for you since I wasn't going to see you.

Do something you are passionate about!

yup! I'll get it up later today. is a great resource.
Off to finish my presentations for the state conference coming up this week :)
I'm always open to moving...probably why God does :)
Time to polish plans for next week. Thanks for a great morning.
