Mass Customized Learning team (K-3) from Brookings, SD! We teach everything! π A fun fact about us is that we multiage a lot of our learning and our kids love it! ππ» #dojochat π±
Kari Mueller here from Spirit Lake, Iowa and teacher SPED at Okoboji Middle School. Taking courses to finish my masters in Teacher Leadership. Fun Fact: I'm a newbie to Live Chat! #dojochat
Hi Everyone I'm Anna! I teach Kindergarten in Ohio and I'm a total newbie to twitter chats. One fun fact Arby's in an acronym! America's Roast Beef Yes, Sir! #dojochat
A2 We have students tracking their data by posting pics of graded assessments, teacher assignments pushed out, and pics of what they're doing in the classroom. #DojoChat
A2 Allowing students to post about a topic that they choose that is appropriate is what has worked best for me. Creativity seems to be enhanced when students are interested in what they're blogging #dojochat
A2 If you haven't started Portfolios yet, check out our YouTube channel, the ClassDojo Facebook Communities, and Twitter for awesome ideas being shared! π https://t.co/qVeidKPobu#dojochat
Q2a We just went 2:1...Iβve only had the iPads for a few weeks. Weβre starting small in kindergarten. Yesterday we just had fun...adding stickers, drawing, etc. today we used portfolios w/phonics writing CVC words. #dojochat
A2 we use the portfolios to post lots of our learning objectives! The kids love being in charge of taking pictures or making videos and then posting it to their own portfolio! βΊοΈπΈπ±#dojochat
A2 #dojochat
Supporting kids using portfolios. We lack technology, so i often use my phone to take pictures of their work, save to their file, then they can upload.
They love posting their final projects!

#dojochat We have been using it for math. So far, students have defined academic vocabulary using the audio/recording feature in journals. They have also showed off their knowledge of +/- fact families using the drawing tool. Parents have loved it and students felt proud.
A2:
Portfolios are such a game changer! My kids were able to easily share a retell of our shared reading story! They have also created and shared life cycles! #dojochat
A2b One of our stations is stop motion video with KomaKoma...Ss are able to share their work on Dojo (with a little help from me...they get a liconfused saving the video and then adding it to Dojo.) #dojochat
A2 we donβt use portfolios ahh donβt hate me but they are good for accountability and early finishers! Oh youβre done? Snap a pic & explain your work #dojochat
A3 We just shared the "More than a Monster" activity... what did everyone think? I love the idea of creating an activity that pairs with a lesson #dojochat
Q3: We have recorded a retelling of a story, made and posted life cycles, typed up a response to a science activity, and did the fun monster empathy activity! #dojochat
A3: Not in the classroom as often but getting to do double periods of STEM challenges has been a ton of fun. Today was the "Bird Beak Challenge." for a unit on adaptation. https://t.co/KBfPj2WzQ1#dojochat
I haven't assigned any activities yet only because my students don't have a lot of access to technology but I am excited to get some ideas! #Q3#dojochat
A3: Looking upon the classdojo portfolio website, I think that the posting pictures of what they did in the class so their parents can see and comment is a great activity. However, I am not sure if I answered this question correctly...
#dojochat
A3 we love all the portfolio tools for activities! Making videos around the room of living/non-living things, drawing pictures of our vocabulary words, or typing up stories during free write (or type βΊοΈ) time! The possibilities are endless with portfolios! ππ» #dojochat
A2c Iβm planning to use the stickers in portfolios for addition...another idea...take pictures around the room and use digital ink to trace the shapes you see. #dojochat
Thatβs a great idea. Iβm trialling implementation at the moment with a couple of year 5 and 6 classes so they could definitely coach the younger students next year. #dojochat
A3 giving feedback that is mostly positive can give students the impression that their work is being appreciated, but there should also be a balance between positivity and constructive criticism #dojochat
you should see if anyone on here has coloring pages and let them use tactile stuff to dress them up. Then you can take pictures and upload them as avatars! #dojochat
#DojoChat Hello! π² Robb from West Sac! 4th grade teacher. Very happy to connect to my DoJo peeps!!! Fun fact...I started a new healthy lifestyle and actually love the gym and doing PE with my kiddos!!! #StonegateStrong!
Ello! I'm Allison. I teach 5th grade science in Lufkin, TX. I have a class pet snake (named Ghost) that the students are dying to get to pet for the 1st time, we're just waiting for her to finish shedding. π± #dojochat

A4: I think a great way to build positive classroom environment is to have students write a memo of something they liked in the day or a conflict they had encountered that can be further discussed with the class so everyone knows how to deal with the certain situations
#dojochat
A4 on #dojochat I'm building a positive community with Class Dojo!! Dojo is a huge part of allowing my parents to be part of my team and part of my classroom. Class Story allows for me to post videos and pictures daily of what we do.
A4 I always held class meetings, we had a tub of read alouds specially selected around SEL topics and OF COURSE the Big Ideas videos https://t.co/qaQ9Yzm4kS#dojochat
Q4: We are building a positive classroom community by implementing PBIS. pbisworld.come has been a huge help! #classdojo fits in seamlessly with PBIS! #dojochat
A3 I havenβt pre-assigned tasks in Dojo yet...Iβve thought of adding a ten frame and assiging kids a math problem to solve using it. Is that possible? #DojoChat
A3: I loved using Quizlet Live to review for a test, the Ss loved it too! I'm going to experiment with different ways to organize the kids soon. Also, I want to try Quizizz! #dojochat#TWS_F18
A4 #dojochat
Be ready to answer this question again next week when I host!!!
I have a new room this year, so we are working on making it our own. We want it to be a safe and welcoming space, where the kids can have fun learning!
A3 I havenβt pre-assigned tasks in Dojo yet...Iβve thought of adding a ten frame and assiging kids a math problem to solve using it. Is that possible? #DojoChat
A4 Not in the classroom anymore, but I created a "class" of Houses and connected every person in our building so they could give house points to build school-wide community. #DojoChat
A4 We promote the use of Growth Mindsets - use a lot of amazing online content (thanks CD big ideas ππ»ππ») and follow the Respectful Relationships curriculum. #dojochat
Also be sure to join us next week when @VillaDojo hosts because this is what the ENTIRE chat will be about. For new teachers, this is HUGE and not always explicitly taught, a great chat to join π #dojochat
A4: Today we had wear pink for breast cancer and some of my boys were being made fun of so we read Pink is for Boys and wow what a difference. Colors are for EVERYONE #dojochat
A4 3x a week we have a morning meeting with all 80 of our learners! We love using the Dojo toolkit to implement videos and conversations that go along with our 16 Habits of Mind! π§ #dojochat
Admittedly I just started using Dojo this year and haven't quite gotten to use the portfolio feature yet. I also now teach all of the 5th graders at my school so I'm also still adjusting to the increase in students, so I'll be looking for ideas during tonight's chat! #dojochat
A4 #dojochat I started with the YET wall. Any time they start to beat themselves up or get frustrated, we refer to the wall. And yes, Iβm still at work π
A4: Many of my Ss are saying things like "i'm stupid" or "i'm not smart" for making errors or getting an incorrect answer. -I've been trying to say that everyone is smart in their own way and we are all learning more together. #dojochat#TWS_F18
Q5: What is one idea you didn't get around to last year (that you can try this year)? π€ #dojochat Q5.5 an extra thought: What was in your way last year/in your way this year?
Lindsay, Indiana, 4th grade, and a fun factβI used to work on the morning show of a local news station before I became a teacher! I am a comfortable with this forum! #dojochat

A4 Build Community by Sharing and Celebrating! Students share their work and we celebrate it EVERY DAY! Dojo helps share work with a broader community...but today we even used it in class to share videos students made and added to portfolios. #dojochat
A4 #dojochat This wall was a great addition. I wanted my student to know they are valued. The first 15 minutes of every day is for talking. Most of my parents have never had Dojo before and LOVE IT! I only giving points and never taking them away. Everyone makes mistakes!
A5: I wanted to have a weekly digital reflection on Fridays. With portfolios, Ss can reflect on their learning using the text option! Looking forward to giving this a go this year! #dojochat
Our learners love saying βIβm just not there...yet!β or βIβm still in the dip!β Gotta love those Dojo Big Idea videos! πππ» #dojochat
A5: I didn't get to use the "dojo belt" system last year. I am thinking about trying it second semester this year. ( I didn't get to do it last year because my caseload grew to twice as many by the end of the year last year. Fingers crossed that doesn't happen again) #dojochat
A5: #dojochat I REALLY wanted to try the flipped classroom last year with assigning work and having students post it on their story from home. Admin got in the way. Different admin this year so Iβve taken baby steps with this idea.

A5: I wanted to do more journal prompts with my students last year and just never made it happen as often as I wanted to. Time definitely got in the way. #dojochat
At the beginning of the year, one of my students made the comment βitβs not hard, itβs just a challengeβ and that became our unofficial motto. Whenever another students speaks negatively about their ability/work, one of their classmates reminds them about the motto. #dojochat
A5: Something I've wanted to try in general, is using ClassDojo in the secondary level. grades 7-12. Possibly use it to "gamify" my classroom with the "points"? Motivation and reinforcement! hahaπ #dojochat#TWS_F18
A5 #dojochat
I didn't get around to trying out new resources.
Time was in the way last year. This year, my schedule allows me the time to manage my work load on top of other educational items I'm passionate about...ClassDojo!
#dojochat A5. I would love for the students to interact more with the portfolios and their story this year. Hopefully we can get chomebooks soon to accomplish it.
A3: I just discovered the activity feature because of this chat! Another thing for me to explore and look for ideas on during the chat tonight. #dojochat

I LOVE THAT πmy Ss seem to have such negative views of themselves. but it's also 7th grade, it's a challenging period for them. I would love to post something like that IN my room! #dojochat
Q6: What is one PERSONAL goal you have this year (and what's stopping you)? π I'll be checking in with each and EVERY ONE of you come January to see how it's going π #dojochat

A4: Our school implemented a House system (think Harry Potter or Ron Clark Academy) and we use Dojo to keep track of points. We also meet monthly with our Houses and I've used Dojo's Big Ideas activities to teach mindfulness and plan to use others at future meetings. #dojochat
A6 Use portfolios daily...to create and share work. Share the love with other teachers and encourage them to use portfolios...offer trainings etc. #dojochat
Q5 #dojochat I have yet to show my pre-ks how to share work on portefolios by themselves. Also, I'd like to try little home asignments. Need ideas for that(in french would be great).
A6: To learn and soak up as much as I can from all the people around me! As a student teacher I have so much to learn from every single person! -- Also to try out all my ideas at one point or another in the classroom! #dojochat#TWS_F18
A6 #dojochat
My personal goal this year is to find balance. I often put a lot of energy into all areas, which then burns me out. Then, I can't be efficient in any area. I've started this year with changing education programs where I have less on my plate!
A6: I stepped into a leadership role mid-way through this school-year and feel like Iβve been working backwards and going in circles. Looking forward to starting everything from the beginning in January, instead of picking it up halfway through the year. #dojochat
A5: Doing more student work digitally which, now that I know about the Activity feature, I have another way to assign things for them to do. A5.5: Time to teach how to use the technology and then actually use it as well. #dojochat
@ClassDojo A5: Connecting Visible Learning with Dojo. This year we have been graphing our progress. Ahead of PT conferences, Ss recorded a video showing their progress, explaining their smart goals, and reflecting. Parents β€οΈ it. So did the kids. π #dojochat#visiblelearning
#dojochat A4 I also send out "challenges" based on content I covered in class for students to message me the answer. I made a "Bonus Point" option that is worth 2 points if they answer correctly!
Hello! Maria Elena here from MA! I teach K and Iβm a π±newbie, so moderately comfortable. Iβll have to tweet during the Red Sox commercial breaks!! #dojochat
A3 We recently watched Mojo the director and we are going to continue discussing empathy because my students are having some issues getting along during recess and lunch #dojochat
A4 We wrote a classroom constitution and signed it. I also reward them with a sticker for their sticker chart if they have green dojo points at the end of the day. #dojochat
#DojoChat A6 went to a Model Schools Conference this summer and saw a video showing a 1950βs car and a modern car then a hospital and a television etc. Then we saw a picture of a 1950βs high school classroom and a 2018 one. Yes remarkably the same! I am modernizing my classroom!
A5 Now that I am in third (last year I was teaching kinder) I can do so much more with dojo because my students understand it more. I want to get them more involved in curating work for their portfolios and choosing what they share with their parents on ClassDojo #dojochat
A7: Totally random, but you should sign up for @theskimm. I recently discovered it and β€οΈ the quick skim of what's happening in the news each morning π #dojochathttps://t.co/ozexUw0Lp4
A7: I find inspiration by watching @realrapreynolds on you tube, even though he teaches a completely different subject than I do, he's always got something uplifting to say about teaching and he's always got amazing ideas on how to connect with kids. #dojochat
A7 I follow so many amazing teachers on Instagram and a few on YouTube as well. But I mostly get inspiration from my students (I know this is such a teacher answer..π) #dojochat
A6: It's personal and not really Dojo related, but take more time for me and seek out more personal interests. One coming up is NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). I really want to participate again and maybe actually finish it this year for once! lol #dojochat
A7 Finding inspo - For daily laughs and other inspiration be sure to follow @MrDtimes3 - he is THE BEST. If I had to follow one Insta teacher, hands down him π #dojochat

Amazing Art Teacher that has some great "soft starts". Get your art on!
A7: I feel like inspirations everywhere as long as you are open to seeing it...this twittersphere is filled with it, I follow art educators on Instagram, reading books both education based and not, and mostly my kiddos! #dojochat
A7: @Flipgrid has been my inspiration this year. My students read to me every night from home and I respond to each of them! Music to my ears! Love my readers! #dojochat
A6 #dojochat Continue to find innovative ways to embrace my students and families through Dojo. I think my best way to start is to be intentional about sending more pictures!
Q7 #dojochat my main source is my own imagination. Also, Mojo and Volky(his BFF) inspire me a lot. Mojo is the school-monster(the book worm) and Folky is more of a adventurer, an outdoor freak.
You want to meet them? Here's my instagram: girondin100
A7: Well my insta is @ms.calabro πI love to share and talk! and I find 97% of my inspo on Insta! I follow a lot of math/secondary/algebra teachers. LOVE: @iteachalgebra on Insta and she does a day-by-day recap of her classes! #dojochat#TWS_F18
A7 definitely from our learners! βΊοΈTheir positive attitudes and love for school help make our job a lot easier! No time for negativity!! π«π πΌββοΈ #dojochat

A4 #dojochat This year I am personally greeting and hugging each of my K students as they walk in the door. We say good morning to each other and it really sets the tone for the day. I feel it eases anxieties as well. I started yoga in my classroom!
Even if you didn't #dojochat with us today - Tweet us your affirmation. WHY? BECAUSE YOU'RE AMAZING. π (there we did the first line for you, now keep going) #dojochat
I was so nervous for this chat I was telling my colleagues about it all day. I can't wait to share my experience with them. You are all amazing. Thank you for educating me and giving me something to smile about as I go to sleep tonight! #dojochat

A7: I'm blessed to work with several awesome people like @dramandasmith and @MrsKSpringfield who have helped with technology, giving me ideas for tons of different things! And working more closely with @the1davidwillis (my old teacher) to bring more tech into the lab. #dojochat
Thank you so much for joining tonight, I was SO nervous & I'm reminded how amazing the teacher community is. My β€οΈ is full. Join us next week when @VillaDojo hosts Thursday, Nov 1 at 7pmEST - "ClassDojo and PBIS" π
