I want to take a moment to acknowledge yesterday's tragedy in Florida.
We will see Thoughts and Prayers a lot in the next few weeks.
It is my hope that we take action to prevent future tragedies like this from happening in the first place.

Watching the SuperG as I am ready for a great chat tonight
rooting for USA but all athletes to do their best and achieve their dreams! Inspirational
Hi #sstlap. This is Cammie, rooting for Canada. We get an interesting perspective on the Olympics as we get to compare Can vs. USA media coverage...very different. And as a Canadian, perhaps I’ve tried more of these sports than others have.
A1 I’m excited because this is the 2nd Winter Olympics I’ve known one of the athletes! My favorite sports to watch are curling, ice skating, and the bobsled teams #sstlap
I bet it is interesting to see US coverage. I have watched events and thought the American was the favorite to see them not crack the top 10. Nothing against individual it is loaded field, but they get so hyped that we see less than gold as bust #sstlap

There have been so many - a ski jumper who fell a few months before the competition- the cross country skier who fell and won - the ability to overcome adversity and do their best regardless of whether they win hardware- they are amazing #sstlap
A2 I don’t follow the olympics close enough to know any, but that I saw that hit me was the German skating pair that won gold & their reaction to how they did #sstlap
I am from Wisconsin and yet didn't spend a lot of time on the ice- hockey wasn't big for us growing up - but enjoy it more now - still can't skate #sstlap

very cool- also saw the women's bobsled team where the athletes are from America, but their parents are from Nigeria I believe- very cool story they represent the country for fist time in Olympics #sstlap
A2: Canadian snowboarded Mark McMorris. Won bronze a few days ago, repeating performance in Sochi 2014....less than a year ago had a terrible accident where he broke several bones, internal bleeding, etc. Incredible comeback #sstlap
I have seen a couple stories of injuries like this and to then see them competing at the highest level is amazing. I stub my toe and I am down and out for days oh and that is my excuse for not being in the Olympics.. #sstlap

A3: We can share that same enthusiasm by encouraging our students and recognizing their achievements outwardly...by having a reward system that benefits those who have been positive models for their academic achievements and positive behavior #sstlap
A3 If we believe all kids can learn, be successful and most of all they are all awesome it creates a mindset of positivity. We are here to help them achieve when they don't we should be disappointed and reflect on how we could have done better. #sstlap
A3: By celebrating all the victories in our classrooms. The big ones and the small ones. Cheer on each individual in your classroom. ALL of them. Even the tough ones!! #sstlap
A4: Failing isn't complete defeat, failure is what helps us to get better and learn from real life experiences, do not let it define you and do not fixate on an issue...work it out, ask for help and KEEP GOING! #sstlap
A4 I think this would be a great story to use to encourage growth mindset. I have Ss who stumble & get stuck & just give up trying. This shows that even if you mess up or stumble, you can still do anything, if you set your mind to it #sstlap
A4 I was so inspired watching this race-not you can't-yes he can! and did! He had a set back but that didn't define his race, his day or his Olympics. he worked to win. It is amazing what we and students can do with + mindset. Believe in them & they will do amazing things #sstlap
yes to all of this-
we need to celebrate when they do good things both academically and behaviorally. Let them know their efforts are appreciated and celebrated. #sstlap

A4 That last doesn't mean you are out of the race. It only means you have more to overcome and more to be proud of when you do overcome and succeed.
#sstlap
agreed- The Olympics pits people against each other, but so often measure success by personal best.
what if we measured students against themselves and their growth not against A B C #sstlap
I used to send letters home about ss doing well. It started with academic success. But then found the more meaningful ones were the behavioral ones. Caught you being awesome, doing good, etc. the toughest kids this meant the most #sstlap
A3: By celebrating all the victories in our classrooms. The big ones and the small ones. Cheer on each individual in your classroom. ALL of them. Even the tough ones!! #sstlap
Absolutely! I think it's amazing seeing what these athletes have done and yet they are back to prove that they are as good or better than they were before. How do we focus on that with student. Do we? This is where you were, and this is where you are now!
#sstlap
yes failure isn't truly failure until we give up. otherwise it is just attempts in learning and finding ways that didn't find success - each can teach us something #sstlap
A4: Failing isn't complete defeat, failure is what helps us to get better and learn from real life experiences, do not let it define you and do not fixate on an issue...work it out, ask for help and KEEP GOING! #sstlap
A5: There is no standard right way to complete a task. Be creative and use what you are comfortable to test yourself and your limits to unlock your individualized talents. #sstlap
we be a great video to show them. Show the crash- show a minute or so of everyone else in the front - then show the last few minutes when he sprints ahead of everyone else- it was incredible #sstlap
A4 I think this would be a great story to use to encourage growth mindset. I have Ss who stumble & get stuck & just give up trying. This shows that even if you mess up or stumble, you can still do anything, if you set your mind to it #sstlap
yes- I was afraid to do that when I started teaching- now I embrace it- especially with technology- things aren't going to work- how do you adjust adapt overcome or change your plans #sstlap
I’ll have to find some video of it! We’ve been watching growth mindset videos in morning meeting to encourage that & I hoped to help my Ss that just give up when they can’t do it #sstlap
They need to see that too! My kids think it’s funny when I make a mistake, but that helps when they make the same mistake & can do what I did after #sstlap
A5 I think there are so many positive stories in our world. We often get bombarded by the negativity especially in politics, these are some stories that demonstrate determination, desire, and hard work pay off. Overcome obstacles and you can achieve great things #sstlap
A6: When we are presented with a similar situation to one we did not succeed in we can re-evaluate our thoughts and actions for a different outcome. #sstlap
right- so much of life is figuring out what to do when things don't go right- how do you get where you are going when google maps leads you astray? How do you fix the wash machine, car, bike, door nob, etc. How do you think through the problem and come out successful #sstlap
They need to see that too! My kids think it’s funny when I make a mistake, but that helps when they make the same mistake & can do what I did after #sstlap
Agreed!! When I signed up for K, I never realized how many problem solving skills I would be teaching, but it’s made a huge difference in my Ss #sstlap
I like that- we have started to embrace the idea of multiple ways to solve. that hasn't always been the case in education and this allows for innovation and real world change #sstlap
A5: There is no standard right way to complete a task. Be creative and use what you are comfortable to test yourself and your limits to unlock your individualized talents. #sstlap
I allow Ss to retry assignments and projects. Just because they didn't get it this time doesn't mean they won't. Eventually. They have to be able to learn from mistakes #sstlap
I love RESTART - I used this w/ss behavior-today is new day-when you enter class have the chance to reset and have a blank slate- make + choices.
Redo an assignment- if they didn't get it right the first time try again.
our job is to get them there no matter # of tries #sstlap
I agree!!! As the presenter we listened to today said, some will master things the 1st time, some the 5th, some the 99th, and we owe them all the tine & practice to reach mastery #sstlap
yes- it took me awhile to accept that - too many teachers were telling me 1 chance- and it was MC and factoid info - when you apply knowledge it is messy and sometimes you need a chance to make corrections - real life has redos #sstlap

That reflection piece is so important- often more important that the initial outcome.
You lose a game and learn what you could do differently or better and that leads to more victories that is a success #sstlap
A6: When we are presented with a similar situation to one we did not succeed in we can re-evaluate our thoughts and actions for a different outcome. #sstlap
I admit mistakes...an unclear assignment, a lesson that is just not even remotely working. I stop and ask why/what is not working and try again next class if need be #sstlap
A7 the one I can think of right now, is in the middle of Jan. I wrote 2017 in our message.... used that “whoops” to thank them for catching my mistake & showed how I can change the 7 to an 8 to fix it #sstlap
I can't list how many times I have stumbled. Some bigger than others. But in the end I am still doing a job I love, still learning daily, and non of them have kept me from growing as a person and professional. We all stumble it is how we rebound that matters #sstlap
Yes- i would always work on refining directions as students had questions or suggestions. so many projects were pretty open so it was tough to have everything crystal clear - but admitted my mistakes #sstlap
