Hello #IEedchat
Joseph Williams from @puhsd
Shout out to Melanie Brisco who is retiring this year and @Chrisjlara24 who gained tenure on the first day of this school year.
A0: Tom Ashley, TOSA Tech Coach @PalomaValley in the awesome tech-forward @puhsd. I'd like to give a shout out to my Dad who has honorably served as Riverside County Supervisor for 16 years and is retiring at the end of his term on 12/31/2018. #IEedchat
Hello #IEedchat
Joseph Williams from @puhsd
Shout out to Melanie Brisco who is retiring this year and @Chrisjlara24 who gained tenure on the first day of this school year.
A0: Jonathan Synnott, Tech TOSA for @puhsd. Shout to soon to be tenured and awesome educators @Trevor_WR and @JoeyMascio. Way to go guys! Proud to work with you both. #IEedchat
Q0: Introduce yourself and give a shout out to either someone who is retiring this year or retired recently or to someone who is gaining tenure or recently gained tenure. #IEedchat
A1: I see myself giving back either as a coach in the sport I love (rugby) or working with community leaders to improve things in my neighborhood #IEedchat
A0: Chris Lara 8th history. Shout out to my colleagues who got tenure with me at the beginning of the 2017 school year and shout out to my colleagues on track to getting tenure for next school year #IEedchat
A1: It will also be my responsibility to continue the retirement tradition of forwarding email jokes to those who still work. I don't do this now but I hear its a learned trait.
#IEedchat
A1: That is 10 years away for me. Other than running races against other 60 year olds, I look forward to getting more involved in California and national community college advocacy groups like the CCLC and the ACCT to improve access and quality of Community Colleges. #IEedchat
A1:
I wanna be like @mathGrip when I retire. Still volunteering and influencing the math/education world.
And taking grandkids camping up in the Sequoias in Central CA and hanging out with @mrsmathbutler everyday.
#IEedchat
A1b: I will not be alone, I'll have lots of friends and family everywhere to visit and pester and overstay my welcome with. I will not sit around. I'm going to enjoy myself doing things and going places. #IEedchat
A1B: I don't see myself stopping from acquiring knowledge, Socrates said the unexamined life is not worth living. Therefore constant reflection and hypothesizing about life #IEedchat
A1b:
Rushing.
Life sometimes feels fast trying to /do/ so much.
Try to remind myself of this even now; slowing down and enjoying time with family.
#IEedchat
A2: Don't rest on yesterday's successes in teaching. There are always things to learn and try out in the classroom, and work to build relationships with kids as hard on the first day of teaching as the last. #IEedchat
A2:Always leave room for more growth and take administrator input very seriously. It won't be until your 5th year when you might be getting a hang of this profession and remember you are here to serve #IEedchat
A2: Advice to new teachers seeking tenure. Kick ass in the classroom, keep your head down (for ex, be agreeable and nice to the principal's secretary), and get involve in school clubs or sports. #IEedchat
A2:
Keep finding ways to be more efficient with the business of being a teacher.
Attendance. Grades. Extra duties. Meetings. Communication. Posting tasks.
Do these things and take control of them so you can shape the learning and build relationships with students.
#IEedchat
A2b: Don't listen to the bad advice that says "don't let them see you smile before Christmas". The advice is more than just silly, it prevents you from forming the necessary connections needed for learners.
#IEedchat
A2b: Awesome question! Here is some bad advice to new Ts: Speak truth to power. If you don't like the way things are done, do your own way. If most of your students are failing, it is the student's fault - don't blame yourself. #IEedchat
A3: How can you acknowledge those retiring? It's not rocket science. Commit to going to whatever reception your district or association is organizing. That is something. Get their email and phone number and follow their social media accounts and keep in touch. #IEedchat
A3:Making a movie with images and video clips of the projects and events that a certain individual has undertaken at site and share the video with the school and thank them #IEedchat
A3:Making a movie with images and video clips of the projects and events that a certain individual has undertaken at site and share the video with the school and thank them #IEedchat
A3b: Congratulate them and tell them personally how you've seen them grow as an educator and the positive effect they are having on students. #IEedchat
A3B: I love what my friend Karen Cranney does at https://t.co/xgTZJ369Q2. She is the Faculty Association Pres and she throws a celebration (at a local winery) for both newly tenured and retiring faculty at the same time. Great chemistry! #IEedchat
FT: Celebrate everyone on campus, even for the small things that make your campus that special place. You never know what kind of life people are living, so smile for them and thank them #IEedchat
FT: Retirement & Tenure. Great topic! It's like watching the natural cycle of life, but in schools. Most of the retiring teacher's I know are experts in the field but are ready to enjoy their golden years. The newly tenured are in their prime & are a wonder to watch. #IEedchat
A3b: I was impressed at the beginning of this school year when @GrantBennett11 acknowledged tenured employees at our PD days & gave each one an engraved apple. Grateful to work for @puhsd. #IEedchat
