A1: the purpose of the library is to support student learning & aside from that tying back 2 standards provides indisputable evidence of the value of the library #txlchat
#txlchat In meeting with my administrators and goal planning I find it empowering to use Standards. Super excited because we recently revised librarian job description based on Texas School Library Standards.
We should always strive to improve and our standards give us a measuring tool. We will never be perfect, but by improving we can help our students more each year! #txlchat
#txlchat Hi all, Heather from #castleberryisd. HS TL & district lead librarian. Looking forward to this chat as we are in the process of adding our goals into a portfolio with leading indicators.
A1 I think the new @aasl National School Library Standards are a great tool for aligning with goals! The learner, the school library, and the school librarian are already set up to align perfectly! #txlchat
A1 Standards can provide a roadmap for service & be an incredible advocacy piece for staffing, budget, etc. They also help to provide data (hard numbers) when necessary. #txlchat
A1. Popping into #txlchat after a rocking #kylchat - creating a standards based approach to lesson solidifies the school library as a support to the school community
a1They can help with focus. It's easy to fall into a routine. "Is it cute, or does it count..." Forget PD I was in when I heard that, but the standards help answer that question. #txlchat
A1.) It’s imperative that we start any goal planning with the end (specific standard) in mind. Otherwise, we’ll be doing twice the work. Work smarter, not harder. #txlchat
A1-aligning to standards introduces stakeholders to the relevant work we do. These are approved by the state not just randomly pulled out if a hat #txlchat
#txlchat A2. We had Tara Brown present to our staff on building relationships at the beginning of the year. I have to ask for help as a personal goal. Need to take off the superwoman cape once in awhile.
A1 Standards help put everyone on the same page. Like any other standards (TEKS), it unifies us, provides some much-needed validity to our roles. #txlchat
A2: a personal goal I have this year is to find more ways to involve my students in my library. Offering a variety of programs, listening to their suggestions, talking to them about what they WANT to read. #voice#txlchat
A2 To share the Texas Library Standard’s with my admin, and how our library is meeting them. It is also a great time to set goals for areas to improve upon. Include admin in the conversation. #txlchat
a1They can help with focus. It's easy to fall into a routine. "Is it cute, or does it count..." Forget PD I was in when I heard that, but the standards help answer that question. #txlchat
A2 I have a personal goal of reading more! I love finding prof books/articles that don't have anything to do with librarianship & finding connections to our work. I also want to share more original content with my PLN. #txlchat
Q2 To create a Twitter-wise campus and have more teachers telling their story on Twitter; to host mini-workshops helping teachers find their tribe on Twitter. #txlchat
A2 I keep adding goals- right now 1. Organize my digital life 2. Start a short podcast featuring students and teachers and 3. Get a handle on Minecraft educstion #txlchat
A2: continue to build a culture of reading. Sharing what I read with teachers and students with sticky notes on the door, make more time for students to recommend books to each other #txlchat
A2 One of my goals this year is to cultivate new library champions. I’m attempting to redefine my role, provide more direct support for our teachers while developing more programming for students. #txlchat
A2 personal goal. To figure out how I feel about catalog skills. I know people have FEELINGS about this but I always go back and forth on how important that skill is, why, and how in depth the kids knowledge needs to be #txlchat
#txlchat A2 Aligning with standards keeps me focused on the the right targets. I want to stay connected to what is important while keeping in mind what data, evidence & artifacts I need to gather to show success.
I think elementary kids have so many good ideas about using technology and they get so excited about learning and wondering I want to bottle it #txlchat
A2 Late to the party but a personal goal is to collaborate with a content area we’ve never worked with before and have a presentation accepted by @iste#TXLChat
A2 One of my goals this year is to showcase #SISDlibrarians in their instructional roles: as co-teachers & planners. But also how they model a commitment to life-long learning. #txlchat
A1 standard alignment proves librarians are in the business of adding value to every aspect of our students lives, it shows our commitment to being instructional partners & facilitators of learning. #txlchat
#txlchat A2. My main goals are related to curation and organization: improve an aging collection and better organize and instruct for self-guided seeking.
A3 Professionally-speaking, I am in a brand-new role sooooooo.......my goal is to survive?
Truthfully, I want to build confidence in the librarians I work with so they can channel that confidence into transforming learning on their campuses. #txlchat
A2: My personal goal is to look closely at the standards and development lessons that are in alignment and promote student learning and engagement. #txlchat
A3 Advocate for our program, proper funding, and strike a balance between being librarians and technicians now that the 1:1 has been put on our laps. It’s 3 but they are all important #txlchat
A3 My Professional goal is to reach as many school librarians in TX as I can either in person or virtually to talk about how we can use the new standards! #txlchat
Our helpful pages for this #txlchat Sample Mission Statements and Goals from libraries on Librarian Web Sites page https://t.co/rWrSH2hIaG See: @GwynethJones MHMS Goals page https://t.co/79KpjjWI5X Great to set goals but it is important to periodically review & revise them.
#txlchat A3 Professional goal is to have my first Battle of the Books team and encourage other librarians in the district to support their own teams. Had first two practices and great student interest already
A1 Following standards keeps us accountable to our stakeholders and gives us legs to stand on when anyone questions why we are a vital part of the educational community #txlchat
A3 My Professional goal is to reach as many school librarians in TX as I can either in person or virtually to talk about how we can use the new standards! #txlchat
#txlchat My professional goal is to advocate more and promote library events, statistics, collaborations, etc. This can be difficult when caught up in the moment - or not to appear self-serving.
#txlchat There is power in moments. (That's my #oneword) so... Spend more time in the moments w/ the students & listen to their needs. I am part of the student council this year. I am also starting a student advisory council. I want to listen to their needs. The power of moments.
A2 One of my goals this year is to showcase #SISDlibrarians in their instructional roles: as co-teachers & planners. But also how they model a commitment to life-long learning. #txlchat
A2 Keep reading beyond the walls so that I can always offer multiple choices when recommending books to reluctant readers and those momentarily lost #txlchat
A3.) ProfessionalGoals: conduct/schedule more research sessions with classes, get our databases more usage, mentor a teacher, & promote reading via Book Club.
A3: my professional goal is to collaborate with more teams of teachers. ELA is easy, and I have Math Ts on board for #hourofcode, so now I just need more work with SS and Sci. #txlchat
A1 Following standards keeps us accountable to our stakeholders and gives us legs to stand on when anyone questions why we are a vital part of the educational community #txlchat
A4. 1 - expand on the success of our newly named #SISDFanComExpo! 2- Get more kids reading from @TBABooks list 3- Try a new program for our Reading Revel book clubs! #txlchat#SISDLibraries
Q3: I am in the process of rearranging my NF to create a special “Creative (narrative) Nonfiction” section! I hope the kids are going to ❤️ it! #txlchathttps://t.co/McuZkVOnNE
A4 I need to figure out how to pull in my readers & help me pull in some new readers! I feel like the library is so busy sometimes, these kids slip by me. 😕 #txlchat
A2 One of my goals this year is to cultivate new library champions. I’m attempting to redefine my role, provide more direct support for our teachers while developing more programming for students. #txlchat
A4-we are working on #digcit-we don’t have a specific goal yet but we are close. This is tied to some Digital Security Task Force work in our district #txlchat
A4 I would like to use Makers with a Cause as my inspiration and find ways for our kids to reach out to our community members in need and globally, as well. #txlchat
a4 Do #AllTheThings We are beyond lucky to have 2 librarians in our school of 800. We will push limits this year. :) Supporting teachers, students, more reading, more making @JenGilbert42#txlchat
A3 #txlchat Professionally I want to become more organized so I can create a better work/life balance. I am also pumped about a new podcast I will be starting soon thanks to @TheTechbrarians help w/ 2 ELA teacher & students! That's exciting... and well, I started a blog!
A5 I like to share my goals with my PLN and keep them updated along the way. They know if I have I said I am going to do something and I don't mention it for awhile, they ask me about it! #txlchat
Have you tried modeling reading with a picture book? There are some great pictures books to model theme, characterization, etc. And they are short! #txlchat
A5 Document, document, document! If we record everything we do we will not only have data to show supervisors but it will also give us a glimpse of how our time is spent - with students? or doing clerical tasks? #txlchat
A4 reading! Of course I constantly encourage and support it, but with technology, coding clubs, reasearch makerspace, etc. My focus gets stretched thin. I'd like to think of an annual program or something..... #txlchat
A5: I keep track of all of my goals & when I complete them. I also create an #infographic report for my admin quarterly sharing these details! #txlchat
A smart librarian, @AllisonGlasgow gave me great advice on this. She told me to start a Google Slideshow and update it daily with a new slide for every activity that I did/planned. That way it is not so overwhelming at the end! #txlchat
A5. Social media helps with documentation. I also need to start a daily journal/log to give some direction for the day ahead and a place for reflection. @librarian140 shared that suggestion this summer; I just need to implement it. #txlchat
A4 first year bilingual program this year at our school, working to ensure all students and their families receive the same personalized learning experiences & care. Fortunately, I speak Spanish! #txlchat
A5-our goals will have survey data tied to it. We have 2 years worth to reflect on and incoming survey data to revie in the spring to document growth #txlchat
#txlchat A5. For my collection goals I can compare collection analysis from before and after, coupled with records of student request/fulfillment ratios (if I can find the time!). For my TBA goal I will compare # of voters with last year, etc.
#txlchat A5 All the Sharyland ISD librarians attending an awesome Region One session on Be a Library Data Super Hero with Jennifer LaGarde. Hoping to put a district plan in action with input from the entire team. Shout out to @DrLauraSheneman
Finish strong! May was for celebrating our hard work! Ukulele Club had 4 gigs, inaugural Book Buying Team processed their carefully curated shipment of library books, & Rainbow Reading Challenge had 100% completion across 1st grade! #LibrariesRRock@forestnorth
I have done a few MS programs - a Genre Bingo, Read It Forward (read a book and pass it on). This year I am simply allowing my Ss count Book (goal=25) or Pages (goal =5,000) with no strings attached. All Ss are setting a personal goal too! #txlchat
Phew that was fast and furious! I’ll look forward to going back through the archives! Thanks for chatting with us, and don’t forget to follow other from your #txlchat tribe!
We use STRIVE to document evidence. I'll include notes from the vertical team meeting, emails between teachers and me, calendar dates of collaborations along with lesson plans or notes, animated PSA and GIFs and more! Tweets. Facebook and Instagram posts too, of course. #txlchat

They are really great!! I just re-tweeted one, I think they're every month so they haven't done a September one yet, follow some of the people I mentioned and you'll get to see it in action! #txlchat

A4 #txlchat I hope to have a 75% attendance rate in a new club I am starting w/ my counselors. We are calling it our "Conversation Club." It is a Book/Writing Club. Books will be our platform & we are starting w/ Turtles All the Way Down in October because of Mental Health Month.
Easy! I know @MaryWoodard, my library director, will want to hear all about it, so Twitter, emails, invites, Post Its in my planner of awesome moments, and did I mention Twitter? #txlchat
A5 #txlchat We will all have a portfolio this year. We will also use our evaluation tool to keep focused, include artifacts, data & include conversations about successes. Ongoing reflection will allow us to determine whether we are meeting our goals, redirection and next steps.
Retweet and tag your administrator...you BOTH can win a copy of "Hacking School Libraries" (a paperback for your shelf, a Kindle copy for their device). When you both win, your students win! "Hacking School Libraries" is available at https://t.co/Bwff9I8nhm#HackYourLibrary
A1: It is so important to have a goals that are aligned to standards to ensure I am covering all necessary functions of the library. It keeps me on track and accountable and makes it easy for others to see what we do. #txlchat
A2: It’s our first year as a campus and I really want to develop a culture of literacy among my high schoolers and staff. I’m planning on hosting events and contests throughout the year promoting literacy. #txlchat
My husband is involved with competitive Pokémon tournaments, so I have some Pikachus that kids are impressed with! So it may not be ALL Ss anymore, but many still like them! And the new game is coming out soon! It's always something!#txlchat
You should see their faces when I use their slang! It changes so much there's a new word to learn as soon as I get one down but it's entertaining #txlchat
