#NBCTchatter exists to promote accomplished teaching practices based on the research of the National Board of Professional Teaching standards and the experience of NBCTs. Our goal is to highlight our teacher leaders and give them a platform to talk about the practices, strategies, and plans that help prepare our students for life beyond our classrooms – becoming college and career ready.

Greetings, andDave here. AYA Science alumnus working at HCTA. I enjoy when the professional learning is a mixed audience. I gain perspective and ideas from different subject areas and grade levels. #NBCTchatter#NBCTstrong@HNBCT@CTechEd
Q1 For those who are NBCT, what has NBCT done for you as a professional learner?
For those who are not NBCT yet, what would you hope to gain?
#NBCTchatter
A1 - Lately, being a NBCT has allowed me to have powerful conversations with many accomplished teachers pursuing their board certification. I've learned so much through their instruction and reflection. #NBCTchatter
Hi guys! I’m Erin an 8th grade teacher in Tennessee. Interactive Pds are my favorite. Those that include varied tasks and allow me to leave with a “takeaway” for my students #NBCTchatter
RT ... Q1 For those who are NBCT, what has NBCT done for you as a professional learner?
For those who are not NBCT yet, what would you hope to gain?
#NBCTchatter
A1 I would hope to improve my craft - through reflection and documentation I would hope to receive validation for what I do well and support for areas I can improve. #NBCTchatter
A1- Wow! So much! I did it early in my career & I think it set a high bar for my expectations of what PD would do for me as a professional. It pressed me to be reflective, a true collaborator, and put kids at the center of my instructional decisions. #NBCTchatter#NBCTstrong

A1 Having been through the process made me so much more reflective in my classroom and helped me work with teachers who need a little boost in their classrooms. It also makes a difference with site admin when I speak about the teachers. #NBCTchatter#NBCTstrong@HNBCT@CTechEd
This is awesome ... I bet you are a PLF - Professional Learning Facilitator ... part of the #ASPIRE program of support ... any other PLFers out there who can testify to Kadie’s experience? 💜 #NBCTchatter

A1: NBCT helped me recognize the importance of including many stakeholders in classroom instruction. Considering how a lesson or topic may align with work being done in other classrooms #NBCTchatter

A2- Like the advice I got when thinking about having babies- there will never be a perfect time! You have to jump in & do it. There will always be other things filling your plate, but this is about an investment in the future professional you. And the ROI is HUGE! #NBCTchatter
A2: One big obstacle is that voice in our heads that says, "You're not good enough!" The way through that is working with a cohort and lifting each other together! #NBCTchatter#NBCTstrong
A2 - I common obstacle is finding the time and quiet place to get in the zone and knock out the components. To overcome this, you've got to put the time in your schedule. Attend an ASPIRE! session (or 10), get a babysitter, go to Starbucks - whatever works for you! #nbctchatter
A2-Obstacles-not giving time to understand directions, reflect on practice, verbally process with a learning partner. Overcome by: collegial dialog, making "sacred" time for your growth, attending Jump Start! #NBCTchatter#HCPSTeach@CTechEd#NBPTS@HNBCT#NEAJumpStart
A2 When I achieved in 2003, there was funding from the state to support this amazing opportunity ... an obstacle for me, then, would be money. The learning is worth the reward, it's the finances to start that get in my way. :)

I think it was a fingerprint on everything I ever will do or have done as a professional! It changes who you are in a way that makes you want to be the best and seek the best everyday. #NBCTchatter

A2: Achievement of NBCT requires quite a bit of time outside of school hours. Working with others who are also pursuing NBCT is a great way to create a network of support and accountability #NBCTchatter

A3 I've been writing personalized notes 2 teachers I've worked w/, personal friends @ other sites, coworkers that I admire, & women I worked w/ as a Teacher Mentor - telling them why I think they would be great candidates. I've had a few 2 commit 2 an info session! #NBCTchatter

A3: I know a few people who recently returned to the classroom and deserve to be recognized as the NBCT they are! Nothing beats the personal invite (shoulder tapping), plus tagging in ASPIRE promos doesn't hurt! #NBCTchatter

A3 Met a teacher last week who I am sending info to about ASPIRE! and NBC. She is dynamic, motivated, and gets great academic movement from her students. #NBCTstrong#NBCTchatter@HNBCT@CTechEd

Teaching US History there are many ways to include local officials in a lesson or unit. Last year my students met a local legislator in class. His visit helped them understand his role in local gov’t & the differences in state and national offices #NBCTchatter
A4 I am doing some traveling this summer & won't be in town for the Elem Reading trainings. Love 2 read a couple books focused on increasing engagement/DI during my reading block and/or continuing to fostering a love for reading. Any recs? #NBCTchatter#hcpsteach
