#2ndchat is a Twitter hashtag that can be used to chat, collaborate, and grow with other second grade educators from around the world. Every other week we will discuss a different topic. It's a great way to help grow your PLN (Professional/Personal Learning Network) and share ideas with others.
A1: We are thankfully 1:1 Chromebook which has really changed how we use technology. Not a specials time anmore just a useful practice and functional tool in our classroom #2ndchat
We were almost 1:1 and we turned in all our iPad 2s last week. 😭😭😭 Now we’ll have 5 chromebooks, 2 chromeboxes, and 2 iPad minis. I’ve been blocking off our computer lab for Gsuite projects this week. #2ndchat
Amanda, I thought they were going to have the pry my iPads out of my hands! I am SO SO sad they are gone! They just do different things that Chromebooks. I feel selfish for wanting both but my kids need BOTH! :) #2ndchat
RIGHT! They just do different things. Chromebooks do things iPads cannot and visa versa. I would love at least 5-6 iPads for a station or small group. #2ndchat
A2: I first introduce my students with a single card with their GSuite login and password.. This helps get them onto CB..as we progress we shift to the magical Single Page sign on sheet #2ndchat
A2: We work hard on this at the beginning of school. We have CLEVER for signing in but I still like mine to put in their whole student number/email and password. Trying to train them for how it works everywhere else. #2ndchat
A2: Make individual log-in sheets for Ss that holds all user names and passwords. It’s in a sheet protector in their binders. I also spend the first few weeks teaching Ss how to get & plug back in a comp & how to log in $ log out. I teach it like I would anything else. #2ndchat
A3: I use start them out with Google Docs. We start out by learning to name it, change fonts, font color/size and insert a picture. I let them just explore typing their names and a sentence about the day. #2ndchat
A3: Slides- I usually have them create a Google Slides about them (which them love). They write a slide about their family, their favorite foods, animals, etc... I let them explore themes and transitions. #2ndchat
A3: Slides- I start out with creating a simple bar graph about favorite pets. We poll the class and then create a bar graph. Later they create poll questions with Google forms & create bar graphs on Sheets to match. #2ndchat
#2ndchat A3 We have made a slideshow introducing ourselves. Font, size, color, take a picture, etc. Over a few computer lab sessions & collaborate! This year, the gang messed w/ other slides! UGH! Then we share on Seesaw!
A4: I want to get my students comfortable with text box features, font, insert pictures shapes. Also show that tools are the same across #GsuiteEdu apps #2ndchat
It's usually just something simple like an All About Me doc. At the beginning I do alot of the set up witj my hyper docs but at the end of the year they're pretty simple bc the Ss are Google ninjas! #2ndchat
A4: I want them to be comfortable with using all the tools in Google Suite EDU, know how each tools strength/purpose (but still think outside the box for new ways), learn to collaborate, grow through feedback & CREATE more than consume! #2ndchat
A4 #2ndchat I love when kids realize they can work on a variety of tasks with all of these tools. I love when they learn they can work from home/grandmom's house! Love also when they aren't afraid to try new buttons or when they make the transfer from doc to slides seemlessly!
They teach me stuff all the time! You should see some of the games they created after I launched my gamified fraction unit. They BLEW ME AWAY! #2ndchat
A4: My School @Hopetechschool recently came up w/ researched, age appropriate, technology standards for grades K-8. It guides Ts and sets an expectation for what a S should know at the end of the year. As a T I appreciate it, I felt a little all over the place before. #2ndchat
A3: We did sheets for the first time yesterday. I taught them to resize columns and rows then we had some fun with pixel art! They were in love!!! 😍 #2ndchat
A3: I like to introduce Slides with an older buddy class where they have 1:1 chromebooks. We make a Slides of our commonalities and differences with our buddies. #2ndchat
A4: I'd like to see students make the connections (& be able to use) the tools that cross the GSuite apps: font, size, color, insert pictures, shapes, write in shapes etc. #2ndchat
A4: Being able to produce a writing piece in docs. Producing a Slides to demonstrate knowledge of a concept. Primarily collaboration and communication. Hopefully we would see creativity through clip art, font changes, etc. #2ndchat
