Hi all! Jodi -Innovation & Tech Coach in Atlanta
A1 The AEE of UDL helps me to see my learners beyond a grade, score, or ability. I get to know what makes them learn.
Yeah! Jodi is here - we're going to have fun in with such awesome educators in the convos!!! https://t.co/fOWV2P54zl
Hi all! Jodi -Innovation & Tech Coach in Atlanta
A1 UDL give educators the lens to truly understand how our learners access, engage information so we canniest personalize 4 em
A1 Learning is about choice and creativity, UDL is a custom created gateway to learning.
Awwww shucks! You're so sweet! ❤️❤️ being here!
A1: It allows me to see my Ss as people & how & what they learn, create, express learning, think critically.
This is SO far beyond differentiation! https://t.co/ajKaRrZ5kH
A1: It allows me to see my Ss as people & how & what they learn, create, express learning, think critically.
A1: The lens helps to build the conversation around learning so it validates each learner and how they learn best
yes! It makes it so much easier for educators in the long run. Go slow to go fast... Take time getting to know Ss
Gives voice and self-reflection to students in the learning process! https://t.co/okeuoDJohN
A1: The lens helps to build the conversation around learning so it validates each learner and how they learn best
A1 Just think about how you access & process information - we are all unique. lens reduces barriers &maximizes learning
And then you spend the remainder of the year enjoying learning at a wonderful pace! https://t.co/hTDz25aAza
yes! It makes it so much easier for educators in the long run. Go slow to go fast... Take time getting to know Ss
A1: Cont: I think it's important to expose Ss to many diff possibilities in the lens too so can learn to choose what fits them.
It allows students to help create and design their learning with a Teacher-student partnership. https://t.co/ymq0byCl0L
A1 Just think about how you access & process information - we are all unique. lens reduces barriers &maximizes learning
and personalizing it so each student drives his/her learning
Love the idea of "going slow to go fast" yes - we need time to get to know Ss https://t.co/v6Y3LY9jLe
yes! It makes it so much easier for educators in the long run. Go slow to go fast... Take time getting to know Ss
seems to work with most things.
Jumping in late. Pam, SpEd Inst. Tech Specialist, Charleston,SC
Great point the lens opens up many possibilities Ss or Ts may not even be aware of https://t.co/DlrNpXzUUH
A1: Cont: I think it's important to expose Ss to many diff possibilities in the lens too so can learn to choose what fits them.
A1: I love the Venn Diagram B shared. They allow Ls to share their thoughts/idea sat each level. Expressing their learning.
Gabrielle joining a little late from VT
Pam - Welcome back! Jump in the convos in
In Q2 we’ll discuss learning styles vs UDL.
Great convo happening in around how learners can support their learning! Join us!
Gabrielle- So glad you are here to join in the convos in https://t.co/nqpOjhF5EZ
Gabrielle joining a little late from VT
Do you know about the lens? Join us now in to delve deep into UDL since it is in - we can learn from each other!!
A2 According to Gardner himself- learning styles were not intended to force students into a box.
A2 It is the assumption that learning styles are static. Humans are fluid in thought and need flexibility.
A2: Learning styles often creates a fixed mindset; UDL lens can create a growth mindset
So glad you joined us - Jump into the convos about & Ss learn best https://t.co/So9QULi8Ro
Gabrielle joining a little late from VT
They assign us a learning role and we get stuck! https://t.co/K1tYyBjE64
A2: Learning styles often creates a fixed mindset; UDL lens can create a growth mindset
UDL feels more like a growth mindset than learning styles. For Ss those are often fixed. Don't want Ss to be stuck!
A2: It seems to give Ss more & allows them to have strengths in diff areas, not just 1 style of learning.
A1: UDL helps you to understand your S's by focusing on the what, why & how to create meaningful learning for all.
...at any given time, not over time. We change as learners. https://t.co/GtPY710WnH
A1: UDL helps you to understand your S's by focusing on the what, why & how to create meaningful learning for all.
A2 By allows students to self-advocate and learn how to voice their needs, learning styles are obsolete.
A2: Learning styles only gives you one lense...UDL gives you multiple lenses.
A2 - I was told I'm a visual learner. No more lables - no more learning styles. provides the lens to multiple ways we learn
So glad that you pointed our self advocacy! Learners need to advocate for themselves! https://t.co/U8axyARRKM
A2 By allows students to self-advocate and learn how to voice their needs, learning styles are obsolete.
Pam- You are right on! Love this perspective! https://t.co/LNjrLCyqDH
A2: Learning styles only gives you one lense...UDL gives you multiple lenses.
labels, ugh! That just contributed to fixed mindset and lack of growth!
I've been reading my coaching books, "lenses" are the way I'm thinking lately.
Learners’ stories are important and we’ll discuss why in Q3 coming up!
A2: Learning styles sort of fix Ls into one category. It can vary from day to day, Ls need to have that flexibility.
A2 Learning styles tend to be given to us by others. encourages Ss to see themselves as learners w multiple perspectives.
A3 Learners who learn what they need are the most successful learners. Only they can know how they learn for sure.
Learning is personal & colorful. https://t.co/zV2ELcffLl
A2 - I was told I'm a visual learner. No more lables - no more learning styles. provides the lens to multiple ways we learn
I think this is when it's important to add goal setting & reflection to S's daily life.
A3 So many times, our students are led to believe they are academically disabled when they just need a guide to find themselves.
So true We were taught learning styles- that doesn't mean we have to continue if works https://t.co/7lhaajTs32
A2: Learning styles sort of fix Ls into one category. It can vary from day to day, Ls need to have that flexibility.
I ask my peers, if you are not helping your students to self-reflect, whose thinking are they using? https://t.co/Ugo5tQR6j7
I think this is when it's important to add goal setting & reflection to S's daily life.
A3. So you can know where they feel their strengths & weaknesses are & so you can guide them towards tools they may like.
Get rid of the labels. Kids deserve more than that, they aren't a prototype, they are unique, exceptional Kids.
If we don't let them take us for this ride, they are riding alone in their learning. https://t.co/Ce34A1Z5EM
A3. So you can know where they feel their strengths & weaknesses are & so you can guide them towards tools they may like.
A3: stories r complicated & allow Ss to have ownership. Their stories r important.
A3: Study on importance of young children telling stories to improve communication & literacy. https://t.co/rGoRttkwWl
A3: Study on importance of young children telling stories to improve communication & literacy. https://t.co/oqPG70elOD
A3: Read why we need to have learners tell their story: Changing Perceptions - Every Child a Learner https://t.co/JozCkqhotm
A3: Read why we need to have learners tell their story: Changing Perceptions - Every Child a Learner https://t.co/5TZnQEFOPb
A3: When you open the door to listen to kids, they want to tell their stories. The LP lays the groundwork on how they learn
I don't want to bash LS's, they are important. Just a small part as you said.
I have so many students that come to me in 7th grade that were TOLD how to learn and when to think. Unlearn this madness & grow!
A3 learners change over time telling their story of learning is self-reflective, self-actualizing over time
Mark- We need to create a bulletin board that says exactly what you say here! https://t.co/cXaJcLbSX6
I have so many students that come to me in 7th grade that were TOLD how to learn and when to think. Unlearn this madness & grow!
They actually get to know themselves as learners...looking from within. https://t.co/7fjr053XHs
A3 learners change over time telling their story of learning is self-reflective, self-actualizing over time
A3: Qs to use as prompts "what do you want your teacher to know?" or have them share "I am from..." poems - matter
A3: Just like Story telling is a part of learning, processing, reflecting. It's what connects us, always has!
Yes if learners continue to tell their story, they get more self-reflective -- beautfiul https://t.co/nLmJX0TrLw
A3 learners change over time telling their story of learning is self-reflective, self-actualizing over time
A3: To a child, their story is who they are, what they believe. It's them comfort to speak freely and feel their voice is valued
Q4 is coming up in 1 minute! We’ll share the influence of learner profiles on designing a Personal Learning Backpack.
Curious if anyone on has a concrete example of a designed around or even examples within a unit? Thanks!
A3: When Ss tell stories, you listen more. This is not something Ts were taught. The more Ss share, they become more confident
Q4. How can the LP inform you and your learners to design a PLB that includes skill development? https://t.co/HXeZsN3ZJE
this can be bit diff for 1st. Ss still learning how learn best & favorite ways learn. More is found out in discussion.
A4 It can act as a starting point and guide for learners who desire choice. Many students need a menu!
hate to head out early but bedtime routine is a must w an early AM meeting.😉 Look forward to reading discussion later.
Yes! Many just need to see options & then they get creative. https://t.co/FXkgKxXggq
A4 It can act as a starting point and guide for learners who desire choice. Many students need a menu!
I think I need more details about the "Learner Profile", is this specific to PL or UDL?
skills need to be focus; what skills can be developed thru the content? What is GAN based on assessment? https://t.co/3qOvYlMbuo
Q4. How can the LP inform you and your learners to design a PLB that includes skill development? https://t.co/HXeZsN3ZJE
A4: Learners share LP preferences & needs to inform PLB design w strategies & tools e.g. how to organize tasks, focus
A4: LP helps inform the PLB in what tools, apps and skills are needed for each learner to become an independent learner
The Learner Profile asks how learners access information, engage with content, & express what they know https://t.co/JiTfK75Q5y
I think I need more details about the "Learner Profile", is this specific to PL or UDL?
A4: what tools and resource allow for differentiation with those skills?
A4: LP is the voice of the S that leads us to the appropriate focus on the skills.
A4: LP also invites learners to share their interests, strengths, challenges, talents, aspirations & any preferences or needs
Learners have their PLB that includes the tools, apps and skills for them to become independent learners https://t.co/UrZLGol8fp
A4: what tools and resource allow for differentiation with those skills?
We’re discussing building partnerships in Q5.
It allows students to customize their learning journey so they are set up for success. https://t.co/PjMZL08DNw
A4: LP also invites learners to share their interests, strengths, challenges, talents, aspirations & any preferences or needs
A5 To create a LP and PLB, the teacher and student must walk on the same path and create the journey.
A4: PLB addresses the preferences & needs especially around skill development. If need help keeping on task -PLB addresses that
A5 By building learning together, your students get to know and trust you as a learner along the way.
Students are used to having playlists (choices) everywhere but school...
A5: The learner shares how they learn best with LP. PLB is about conversations that build relationshipa bet Ta & Sa.
A4 LP leading to PLB gets them on board with taking ownership. Cus how can they not, if it's all about them?
A5:LP helps each learner tell their story about how they learn with their teacher-partnership begins! https://t.co/KHrT218P6N
A5: PLB adapts & changes as Ss learn & Ts monitor progress as partners in learning e.g. visual w access https://t.co/gkroHLUGqj
UDL can easily be built in three sections in Google forms as a playlist for diff.
A5: PLB is built from the conversations that the teacher and learner have from the LP - the partnership grows.
When teachers become coaches for students, their minds open and understand learning. Without this, students are bystanders.
A5 my curiosity about my learners and the gift of looking more closely together builds partnerships.
Be ready to unpack the resources in your Personal Learning Backpack in Q6!
Thanks! I needed to have a visual refresher. This is a great template for present levels on an IEP. https://t.co/sDKECHy0aV
A5 sometimes the learners have PLB resources for others too.
= a tangible 1st step! Would love to do a PD w/ our Ts to have them create their own & think about doing w/ Ss
A5: "Teaching is telling. Learning is listening." The stories change when we listen, build partnership w learners, guide journey
Connecticut's new privacy law PA 189 reminds us of FERPA regs on using/developing student learning profiles
A5: I think it shows them you respect them and value their thoughts. Ts see the open doors to who their Ls are. Invaluable.
Yes the best way to start is w Ts creating own LP - Teachers are learners too. https://t.co/blSRf7HYc6
= a tangible 1st step! Would love to do a PD w/ our Ts to have them create their own & think about doing w/ Ss

A6 For my students, I like to have them find one that works, and like a book talk- offer ones that fit.
A6: I use and love the process - helps me start with around real world problems
A6: One of my learning strategies includes using tables to help me organize information

A6: What is your UDL lens? How do you best access information, engage with content, express what you know & understand?
In my Zen world, I need nature, comfort, and story. When my mind has something to say, I listen...then create.
A6: Sticky notes, colleagues, chats like this, It depends on the task, the backpack changes its contents.
Google Form playlist 3 sections Access Engage Express with choice playlist in each section
A6 I guess I have a backpack for planning, one for writing, and one for my own little world.
