Q1. Why do you think it is important to have Ambassadors as a part of Unjammed?
A1: Teachers need to connect with teacher leaders who are using blended learning in their classrooms.
A1: Ambassadors are teachers too, so we understand the issues Ts have in secure care settings.
A1: They make it easier for educators to get a more personalized experience with a single person to connect with in smaller groups
What do you think is the ideal ratio...Ts to As? https://t.co/oRP1FXU06s
A1: They make it easier for educators to get a more personalized experience with a single person to connect with in smaller groups
Teachers, especially first year teachers, need all the help and resources they can get. Ambassadors can help the transition
A1: It is always to have boots in the trenches. ie, We do this, Don't do this.
How have they helped you?
A1: to assist teachers with technology integration in the classroom
How has it changed from being a T to an A?
A1: They hook us up with more resources and understand how to use them in our settings
What has been your best hookup so far?
A's are "boots on the ground" part of CEEAS that completes the circle
What we had is good, but I would say no more than that, but Ambassadors overcome everything, so bring it! lol
Q2. What are the most critical traits to an Ambassador?
I serve as our schools tech lead to 9 other teachers - works well, but requires a lot of my time
Yeah, but you are very thoughtful and intentional and I am sure they appreciate that.
Sorry I am late...what is the topic for the discussion? I am on vacay, but wanted to pop in and listen or participate.
A2 creative, open minded, growth mindset learners
accessibility, good at reading people and responding, essentially--being a good teacher
A2: Patience, Patience, Patience...
A2: Tech skills are important but people skills are probably most necessary.
A2 haha but really true to assign and love for what we do is most important
A1 Because there is only one Kat to go around!
A2: Listening, Discovering, Passionate, Caring, Problem-solving, Dedicated, Funny
A2: a true educator, wanting to help others become better in blended learning to help our Ss become successful
It is hard to provide virtual support but you guys really do!
A1. Because the Ambassadors have experience at more tech than I ever had.....They could give me practical examples. @dramatickat
A2 Passion, patience, been there done that experience, humorous and adventurous. Knowledge of buffalo is helpful but not required
Q3. How can we improve the Ambassador program?
A3: I think the addition of Bootcamp will help us offer more training and support!
knowledge of buffalo may help!
A3: air conditioning where ever they are... lol
A1: Ambassadors are important for answering questions, getting us "unstruck,"and offering moral support in darkest techy moments!
David ITRT for VA DJJ-late to the party.
A2: I was impressed....everyone that I met last summer in Seattle was so nice and supportive. Success was inevitable.
Awww...I am so glad to hear that feedback!
We are so glad you are here.
Agreed bootcamp will take it to the next level!
A3 More time to work with programs, more one on one assistance with same, not rushing through like we know everything
Q2: willingness to try things with us
Exactly. I was tired but I knew I was in good hands!!
A3 book camp will be critical. Take the experience to a new level
Great! That is very helpful. If you could pick things to spend more time on, what would they be?
You thought Tech U was hard...LOL
Q1: The Ambassadors help with solving tech problems and deciphering what is important to do to meet the grant requirements.
Wingerisming is an art https://t.co/9XFvXJb8FX
A2: Listening, Discovering, Passionate, Caring, Problem-solving, Dedicated, Funny
a/c! N put content ts 2gether. Geometers sketch pad doesn't work so well in us history
Q5. What are some advantages of using Blended Learning vs. “Curriculum in a Can”?
Digital Citizenship, useful programs for everyday use, what to do while we wait for bandwidth increase
I like that! Thanks for the suggestion!
A2: Patience, a sense of humor, compassion for techy newbies, and have lots of energy!
A5. Flexibility. The ability to truly teach w/ blended
A3 variety and engagement
A3 More time--both to work at TechU and during the school year. More visits would be great--even conference calls help immensely
A5 it gives educators more options to teach lessons across the curriculum
A2: The Ambassadors needs to be tech savvy and patient. They need to encourage their group to succeed.
A4: EVERYDAY! I am so thankful for the Ambassadors and all their hard work this year. I could not have done it without them.
All of the Ambassadors were very helpful. I don't think that I could have done it without them. I have learned so much...Wow!
A5: more Ss engagement, getting Ss to be more independent to their own learning, Technology is like having another Tt in the room
A5. Blended learning *ought* to allow for more Ss choice.
self pace, self driven. Ss have take respnsibility 4 their work product
A5 BL pushes us, reminds us to stir up Ss brains; no 'cans' in my room but kids wanting cans, computer cans!
What do you think about a mid-year conference?
YES!!! Allows Ss to discover/explore...in a good educational way!
I agree. I think that everyone needs additional support! https://t.co/PwdQnKj4Z1
A3 book camp will be critical. Take the experience to a new level
A2: I suggest finding a clone of Stephen McKenzie for an ambassador.
A5: BL allows Ts to vary the resources that they offer to their students to individualize learning.
Q5: blended makes room to meet students where they are and our kids are all over in terms of prior knowledge
a mid-year conf would help immensely
Yes, I think we need to work on that right away, is amazing!
I think it is a fabulous idea
I was planning the mid year retreat before we left Seattle :-)
Love the idea. I hear Tx is warm in winter https://t.co/Pjdw0yNVgg
What do you think about a mid-year conference?
Sadly there is only one https://t.co/AL2MZPcdcN
A2: I suggest finding a clone of Stephen McKenzie for an ambassador.
BL is great and needed in today's world, BUT are resources limit what we can do
A5: the students are so great at it and it is how they learn now. This is definitely a tech generation
all over is a lovely understatement!
A5. Blended learning allows you to cater to the needs of the student. Instruction can be geared towards what the student needs.
Agreed, but getting time off, subs for coverage, etf.???
a3: I had several one on one sessions with my ambassador and I found it more helpful than the group session
Q6: Share out your favorite tech apps and websites for the classroom.
Exactly! That is what all Ts should be doing!
I know...and fighting so many different school schedules...it is hard!
True, but our students come and go on a weekly basis
Improvise. Drag stuff in through any crack security allows.
That is a wonderful suggestion!
Yes. And when it works, you can tell because every student is successful on their own level in the content.
A6: You know me... Anything Google, Padlet, StoryboardThat, Tinkercad
Not just schedules, but other contracted responsibilities to school and district
A4 Engagement, innovativeness ( ?) variety, real-life learning and ability to reach all levels.
A6. I like because it allows you to post Ss work-it makes it authentic for them.
Teaching writing has its tech challenges--I like Mindmup for clustering; new sites soon.
Thanks! Changed my way of thinking.
A6: I have made a new class and had Ss make a Prezi for their final projects, which in turn are used to teach other students!
A6.2. WAY too many for 140 characters!
ela:pixton, ss:zaption or ed Ted talks into edmodo
are such a terrific group! Outstanding job this year!
A6. We are going to try lateNite labs to try and simulate science labs.
Yes, but meeting where they are and teaching them while they are there is the key! We can do it!
A4: The Ambassador helped this year with bringing the group together for the cause of improving student learning
Our science T has been looking at that. I would be interested to hear how you like it.
A6: Activ Inspire, Instagrok and Storybird
A6. The Ss loved using and chatting w/Ss overseas.
A6: I've had a lot of success with . Students motivated and engaged.
I read your post on that. I absolutely love it!
A5: Curriculum in a can is about as exciting as tomato paste. Providing exciting, relevant learning opportunities is key.
A6 my fav, as well as learning more Google. Playing with Sketchup for 3d prints
I am trying to get them to let us use too. We just have to convince security it is safe to put on Ss network laptops
And we do just that, but it is difficult when they leave so quickly, just as we get started getting through
Will you send me some of your Storybirds?
Let me know if you need help! It totally is!
A5: B L vs. “C in a C: The teacher coaches to encourage learning and assist in teachable moments. Students learn at their pace.
Yes! Security IT controls what websites we can visit. So we just have to get them approved.
we are also getting 100 tablets for class use.
Q7. What is more frustrating as a teacher: Slow of bandwidth, lack of devices, or proxy/filter limitations? Why?
A7: Proxy/filter limitations...because with the other two at least you have access to tools.
Q7. What is more frustrating as a teacher: Slow bandwidth, lack of devices, or proxy/filter limitations?
is awesome we hook up out projectors to our Teacher machines and project it.
A7. All are challenging. If you have devices, but no bandwidth, and Filter won't allow Ss to access sites, BL becomes impossible!
We have 12 iPads, no wifi to use them on, and slow desktops - that's it...
Q7: slow bandwidth...Ss lose patience when it takes too long
I love InstaGrok but SCDJJ will not open it up for the students to use...said it is a security issue. https://t.co/58iD3Wmiy2
A6: Activ Inspire, Instagrok and Storybird
A7: All of the above, but picking 1: proxy limitations
We have barely moved past that level. We had to get laptops for our state standardized tests.
A7.2 OR, if you have great bandwidth, but few devices, Ss are missing out
Filter/proxy restrictions/lack of good controls for Apple products.
A7 the first two. I still don't have all I need for technology in my shop
Great bunch of Ambassadors https://t.co/ib2yVy6S0E
A4: EVERYDAY! I am so thankful for the Ambassadors and all their hard work this year. I could not have done it without them.
I would say personally for me, it has been filter.
It is a teacher resources, you could pull it up on your board and use it as a mind map of student interest.
A6 filter limitations, impacting both Ss and T. Fears from IT, inadequate time to prep to incorporate tools.
A7: proxy/filter limitations are a pain, luckily I have the admin pw to both.
proxy/filter limitations.
I think you win best hashtags! How can I help?
A7 slow bandwidth has been my name lately. But usually filters
A7 - all of them, and our network seems slower every day
For sure proxy/filter limits. Love/hate with Insight learning curve. Can still progress if have others (devices close second)
A7. Proxy filter limitations. Some of the tech/apps that would be good for the students is denied by security for various reasons.
Urgh! I am so sorry! I keep trying to find out what is going on but I can't get a call scheduled.
We alos have a huge issue with Ss searching photos on MS Word clipart - can't block with Insight; called them, can't block
Does it pull up inappropriate content?
Sorry guys. I have to bail.
See ya next month! Thanks for joining.
Yes, problem for us. Google is also shut down for now.
Q8. Describe the classroom in ten years?
OH YES!!! Word allows access to Bing search for clip art - can't find a way to turn it off
A8: Student-driven makerspaces where students create or make learning opportunities based on their interests and 1:1!
Let's chat about this...can you block Bing?
Q8 I will be cybernetically enhanced super teacher.
A8: Better than public classrooms...just sayin...it's all because of the people in here
We could have a # for problems. Sorry no solution for you on that one.
A8.2 Passion based learning environments
It's very difficult to RUN a Twitter Chat from one device, AND then COMMENT from another!
A8: Ss-run, digital world, Ss initiated learning, teachers better than most other schools!!
Q6: Socrative, Padlet, Scratch, Blendspace, YouTube, TedEd, Twitter, Khan Academy, hopefully someday Google Docs
A8 Device for each s; seamless transitions between F2F, online connecting, focused work online
occulusrift field trips everywhere
That's 5 years https://t.co/Ch5D1MKvef
A8: Student-driven makerspaces where students create or make learning opportunities based on their interests and 1:1!
Q8. Online and using the sites we can't seem to open now. IT will see we weren't crazy to want them open and sky didn't fall.
A8: Teachers will be more like facilitators guiding the learning that is done nearly exclusively on technology.
A8 student led centers and technology as an indispensable tool for learning
A8: Wow, I hope to be retired in ten passing hopefully a well functioning 1 to 1 tech classroom on to the next tech savy teacher
A7 - Proxy/filter limitations. Endless layers of bureaucracy.
I like the way you think!
A8 Smaller ratios (+enrollment), wireless/bluetooth, interactive, collaborative individualized. Rainbows+unicorns?
Common thread I have seen with this Q8...Student Centered!!
A8: Desks with built in tech in the desktop, no pencils, and completely interactive, filtered and worry free for S use.
Worry free is a key component!
Hmmm...rainbows + unicorns...
A8. Students learning at their own pace in a format of their choosing.
Student choice is a beautiful thing! https://t.co/tQNmUrh9MU
A8. Students learning at their own pace in a format of their choosing.
I like the voice and choice in format!
hopes and dreams shattered!
Q7: Proxy/filter limitations and the limits of allowing student accounts on free tech tool sites have been big downers!
not preparing for the Jayhawks or Wildcats to play in the final 4!
And finally...
Poll: What should the new Unjammed logo be?
I don't know about logo, but I may have a new theme song...that doesn't involve buffalo...Check it out! https://t.co/NNYI4hDDLc
I can't see the poll in but you can vote back in
Thank you , I really appreciate your help tonight. I must power down and fly home!
That is only bc no one can see the poll, LOL
Way to go . Safe travels!
Thank you for a great chat tonight! I must power down and take off to get home. See ya next month!
