Come join now us for our monthly #Peekachat to discuss Social-Emotional themes in the elementary classroom!
Tonight we're talking about GRATITUDE!
#edchat#education#5thchat
A1: Start with “Thankful Thursdays”: every Thurs have kids talk about three things they are thankful for that week. Have them share w/peers and parents. When Ss start looking for the good, they start finding it everywhere! #Peekachat
Hi there! My name is Emi and I teach Kindergarten at an IB school in Hawaii. One way we teach gratitude is to close our day with an appreciation circle where students appreciate each other and express gratitude #Peekachat
A1 - I told my students how much I appreciate hearing the word "Thanks!" and how I wish we would say it to all the adults who work with us each day (specials teachers, parents, assistants, admins, etc.). Now they show gratitude daily (& we always say it back!). #Peekachat
This is great that you can close the day with this practice and have students leave school feeling grateful for something in their lives. Love it. #Peekachat
Yes, giving students vocabulary to practice sharing gratitude is so key! That's great you're getting them to look around them to all the adults who help them to share that thanks. #Peekachat

A2: Relationship bldg in classroom is first step in creating an educational ecosystem in which all Ss feel safe, secure and loved. Once those in place then Ss can be free to make mistakes and open to growth via failure #Peekachat
I love that this is going on in PE. I feel like it is an area where kids aren't always held to the kindness challenge. I know we always return from PE with hurt feelings for one reason or another. Great work! Keep it up! @Misner_PEteach! #Peekachat

One thing I always try to do is let students know when I am thankful for things I have noticed them doing. Sometimes they need that little recognition or validation to see that they are appreciated and to continue doing great things. :) #peekachat
A3: At @Peekapak we courage our educators to promote vocabulary such as this with students to help students practice showing gratitude to their classmates, families and communities. #Peekachat
@EdTechAmber Thanks! We spend more time on SEL, sportsmanship, fair play then skills some day!! We see over 500 students/week so makes sense to spread kindness #peekachat
A3. Teaching global studies is the perfect chance for me to show my students how to live gratefully. They see what life is like for others around the world and are better able to appreciate the things that we have and not take them for granted. Learn empathy young! #peekachat
I hear ya! I see roughly that many a day! :) I am on a rotation class as well. :) Our students have PE daily and its such a great reminder that #SEL doesn't have to be contained to just the "classroom" setting. Love it! #peekachat

A2 when we slow down and appreciate & enjoy small things gratitude happens. Important to teach young ss to focus on/ find happiness in small moments. Leka from Iowa joining late! #Peekachat

A4: I know from my own experience, sending notes of gratitude to friends, reminding myself of who and what I'm most grateful for during my walks to work or simply writing down an entry in my journal, uplifts my mood and I feel more content in life. #peekachat
Thank you for joining #Peekachat tonight and join us next month on Dec 12th. Remember to follow the awesome #Peekapal friends that you connected with tonight!
A4 it definitely helps me to feel better to think positively. In education we can get overwhelmed easily but I try focusing on small successes and celebrate! #PeekaChat
I also love sharing my gratitude anonymously with little notes in staff mailboxes or on student desks. It's always fun to see someone's day brighten by knowing you appreciate them. :) #Payitforward#gratitude#peekachat
