What a blessing you all are!
Hi Everyone! I’m Stephanie, a literacy teacher educator from @UAlbanyEdu. I can only drop in for a few minutes, but I value any time I can learn from this incredible #g2great crew! This topic is near to my heart, so I'll be checking the archive!
Grateful for the chance to participate in this shared Anniversary. Year 4 for #g2great and year 2 for the #curiositycrew So appreciate this chance to learn together. Brent from Magrath Alberta Canada. :)
Hi there!! I’ve been MIA the past few weeks taking a much needed hiatus from social media and embracing all the family moments back home... of course getting spoiled by my mom! #onlychildprobs#g2great ❤️
A1. “Collective Curiosity” means to me as a professional that I am continuously wondering, listening, and actively conversing in order to learn more . . . and in groups like this! (Curious was my #OLW last year.)
#G2great
A1: In my work, collective curiosity means teachers live as readers, writers and learners to think deeply about our practice and create a shared sense of responsibility to advocate for authentic literacy practices in the classroom. #g2great
A2: Noodling, pondering, inquiring w/colleagues. #G2Great has afforded so many opportunities to learn with and from others both near and far! Connections + shared purpose = ongoing curiosities.
A1 Collective Curiosity illustrates the impact potential that is possible when we engage in professional exploratory reflection and collaboration within a community of learners. We are proud to have such a community on #G2Great
A1: Choice of topics, sneaking a peek at the ideas/thoughts/hints shared by others, getting a taste of new professional texts - the list goes on and on and on.. #G2Great
A1: For me Collective Curiosity is that power we share as learners. That fuel that drives us all to share with each other, to learn and improve our practice on behalf of the most important people, our students. #curiositycrew#g2great
A1: Collective Curiosity to me means that I surround myself with a collective group who share some of the same values and ideas as me, BUT, also CHALLENGE me to WONDER and THINK in new ways! #G2Great@DrMaryHoward@franmcveigh#curiositycrew
Hi, #G2Great friends! Christina, popping in from The San Francisco Bay Area... I have so much love and gratitude for this community! So many wonderful events and ideas have happened because of it! Happy 4 years!
A1 Collective curiosity means learning together. It means that friends/colleagues work together to challenge each other, to grow, to deepen understanding to become better learners & teachers. It means support, understanding, compassion & empathy. Learning with heart. #g2great
A1: Collective Curiosity means that a group of educators continue to question the best practices for the students in front of them each and every day. #G2Great is a group that thrives on questions...And, as the questions keep changing so does the learning.
#g2great A1 The synergy created by the wonderful community of educators who are a part of this chat has truly had me explore ideas in education that I would not have otherwise envisioned.
A1. Collective Curiosity means learning with my friends! And #g2great has meant introducing me to new books, authors, thinkers, colleagues, and best of all — friends!
A1: We are only learning and growing when we are curious. Those that participate with #G2Great are thirsting for MORE and come here to grow with the great minds that attend!
A1 How do I even begin to explain how #G2Great has inspired MY collective growth? Each week I’m reminded of the power of collaborative discourse as each of you inspire and stretch my curiosity driven thinking for this profession.
#g2great A1 The synergy created by the wonderful community of educators who are a part of this chat has truly had me explore ideas in education that I would not have otherwise envisioned.
A1: Collective curiosity=exploring topics, new & old, w/ people equally interested in learning & sharing ideas together. For me, I learn new tips, techniques & about new professional texts that spark further paths of learning outside of the G2Great chats. #g2great
It means reflection and a search for new ways to grow as a teacher- #G2Great is a constant source of Ss centered and inspiring ideas. This PLN has stretched my thinking!
A1 Collective curiosity to me is all the inquiry based conversations I have with groups of educators like this one! Asking questions & passionately searching for answers. Staying excited to learn more, together. #g2great
Curiosity, wonder, and questioning are at the heart of everything we do as teachers. Doing this in the company of others holds so much power. I've learned so much in this community- the more I learn, the more curious I grow. #G2Great
A1. Collective Curiosity means learning with my friends! And #g2great has meant introducing me to new books, authors, thinkers, colleagues, and best of all — friends!
A1 Collective curiosity on #G2Great is a two-way merger of passion-driven professional curiosity. I am always amazed that I leave our chat feeling as if I am a better for the experience through joyful sharing of minds. I’m so grateful for that! #G2Great
#g2great has inspired inspired me by helping me connect with tons of other educators who are just as curious, and who often have answers or guidance for my own questions!
A 1 it means I have a PLN on Twitter, colleagues at school, and students who wonder, question, and learn together. #G2Great is a community of curious educators & it’s wonderful to celebrate its 4 year anniversary by chatting about questions created by members! #G2Great
A1- Everyone in the #G2Great crew is so genuinely curious about best practices- I love how conversations don't always just preach to the choir but they really do challenge and push my thinking.
That’s one of my favorite things too. It’s a true community of people asking questions, sharing resources, & connecting over a shared passion. #g2great
A2. A curious educator inspires others by being a part of inquiry and or study into new practices, effective research, effectiveness of current research. Inspiration can be through blogging, twitter, or FB or leadership roles.
#G2Great
A1 Collective curiosity spurs you on to read another article, order another book, watch another movie, hold another conversation...it takes us deeper. #g2great
A2 “CONTAGIOUS” says it all. How can I not lift my curiosity potential when I’m in the company of those who share my professional spirit for exploring my curiosities. Our conversations help me to explore and broaden my professional curiosities. #G2Great
A1: engaging in a #G2Great chat means you are engaging with a group of curiosity-driven professionals. I am always inspired and filled with ideas to ponder and try out
A2 lead by example. Lead others around you by being curious and making them curious about your path, your success, your changes, anything! #G2Great When they see great things they will be curious about great things! It's contagious!
A1: Collective curiosity requires of us the ability to acknowledge others' ideas. I would think this indicates a healthy environment vs a competetive one... #G2Great
A2: Wondering and questioning are an essential piece of who I am. When I share my passion, what I want to know more about, I model for my Ss the idea curiosity should be embraced. #G2Great
#g2great has inspired inspired me by helping me connect with tons of other educators who are just as curious, and who often have answers or guidance for my own questions!
A2: I think a sense of wonder brings back the memories of our youth haha. The fun of learning that sometimes we lose as adults. Seeing others loving learning makes me want to find my joy again. #g2great#curiositycrew
A1 Collective curiosity is like fuel for the fire! It is a group of professionals that empower each other to embrace change and sometimes this change can be contagious. #g2great
A2 When we’re curious & ask questions, it often inspires others to want to find answers with you. As we share our wonderings publicly, we bring others into the conversation and start the thinking… together! #g2great
A2 “CONTAGIOUS” says it all. How can I not lift my curiosity potential when I’m in the company of those who share my professional spirit for exploring my curiosities. Our conversations help me to explore and broaden my professional curiosities. #G2Great
A2: As an educational consultant & instructional coach, studying Ss in real time creates a continuous loop of curiosity. When we study Ss together, we can grab their assets and figure out what they need next. #G2Great
A2 It is by being curious, modeling excitement in learning, learning from failure, supporting each other in our quest to grow that we share this desire to go further. Our passion, our attitude, our excitement bring a sense of awe, wonder and inspiration as a community. #g2great
#g2great A2 I think of great movements of art, like the time of the Impressionists. They worked together and collectively created a whole new way of making art. So too, curious educators can inspire each other to be more together than individually.
A2: Seeing and noting my curiosity creates wonder in my peers. They want to know what I am learning and how it is working. My classroom become the "what-if" go to place. #G2Great
A2: You can't help but feel the energy inherent in authentic curiosity... and want some of it for yourself- and the others you work with, care about, and are inspired by. Curiosity spurs action rsch, thoughts, conversation & action #G2Great
A2: For example, this year, I started keeping a wonder journal. I just wrote down all of those passing thoughts I had about why or what or how. Then I shared them with my students and they did the same. #G2Great
A2 Our curiosities about our work can gently nudge us to explore those wonderings and even beckon new curiosities. When we share and follow what makes us curious we learn in the company of others in a giant WIN WIN merger of the minds. #G2Great
A2: I always have a project going alongside theirs. Sometimes Ss join mine. I also have giant exhibit-like activities going on. One year was aquaponics. This yr is 55 gallon fish tank & rolling planter. Sometimes my projects fail but I keep at them over the years. #G2Great
A2: Curiosity sparks something in us. It reminds of us what’s possible. Hopefully the reminds us to remind students and teachers of this, too. #G2Great

Hi, #G2Great friends! Christina, popping in from The San Francisco Bay Area... I have so much love and gratitude for this community! So many wonderful events and ideas have happened because of it! Happy 4 years!
I’m doing an entire informational writing unit on exactly this right now! Our passion project is students writing an informative speech about ANYTHING they are curious about.
Personally, I’m excited to listen to the one about trampolines :)
#g2great
A2: When adults model curiosity they create environments that emphasize and foster cognitive engagement...Ss need to see the adults in charge collaborating, communicating, asking questions and engaging in the key tenets of research! #g2great
A2 I think it’s worthy stating that simply reaching for a script or program does little to make us curious. Curiosity by definition is “a strong desire to know or learn something.” What can possibly be better than that in the company of others? #G2Great
A2: If we lean in and listen, Ss talk often uncovers their wonderings. We can use that intel to guide our discussions & focus for instruction during whole group, small group & 1:1 conversations. #G2Great
A2. I find that my professional curiosity usually unfolds organically thru conversation with others here and in real time...leading to thoughts that lead to new exploration. That's why we all need community! #G2Great
Teachers’ passions are contagious too. We need to model what we love and adore about reading and writing. Book talks galore. Share our own stories. #G2Great
A3. Our collective curiosity keeps the flame of curiosity bright. We don't allow the AR, naysayers, and TpT thieves (extinguishers) to creep into our teaching or student lives. We speak up about poor practices and add our voices to the conversations.
#G2Great

A3: Clear the noise by putting Ss at the center instead of the “next thing” that comes...Hunker down and live out our beliefs about what Ss need & the enduring practices that serve those needs best. #G2Great
A3 While we may not be able to control those inevitable extinguishers, we can change what we focus our attention on. I would argue that it is our pursuit of knowledge inspired by our collective curiosities that are the antidote to those things. #G2Great

A3 Oof. I’d like to say keep fighting the good fight out there, but some days…
This is where I think community really comes in clutch. Find your people. Lean on them. Share with them. Be curious with them. Surround yourself with the positive as much as you can. #g2great
A3: In teaching we always have to be driven by what we know is good and true. There will always be detractors and distractors. We have to trust our instincts and beliefs. Find a strong friend. Makes plans together. Support each other & move forward. Cheer each other on. #G2Great

A3: The easiest & most important answer: start with students and build up and out from there. Having a playful sense of curiosity about Ss guides what comes next. Then, the learning is truly student-centered & not done "to" the people in the CR #G2Great
A3: Always... ALWAYS have FAITH in yourself and GO WITH YOUR GUT. Always do what is BEST for kids, and don’t forget to always do what is best for your teaching and personal practices! #g2great
A3: This is talking to you SpellTalkers. Anyway We keep the flame bright by adding fuel to the fire. Stoke the flames with work worthy of our students time. Put away the worksheets, the AR and the fake books. Bring on the practices that promote wonder and awe. #g2great
A3 Finding like-minded people to connect with is everything. They can be in your school or part of a PLN like this! Find others that will grow ideas alongside you. Thanks @LitROCK_forth for being one of my curious teammates! #G2Great
A3: Join a committee. Request a meeting. Speak up. Share. Articulate beliefs and match them with research that is student centered that might inspire others. Don’t be afraid. Your voice, in service of Ss, is powerful & empowering. #G2Great
I kept a wonder journal during my first year as a principal. Recently, I re-visited those pages and I was back with those students and teachers. It is a lovely way to capture the moments! Enjoy. #G2Great
A3: In teaching we always have to be driven by what we know is good and true. There will always be detractors and distractors. We have to trust our instincts and beliefs. Find a strong friend. Makes plans together. Support each other & move forward. Cheer each other on. #G2Great
A3 It is all about the attitude we have. Don't let the extinguishers win. Don't let the spark die. We need positive people to take hold. We need to keep challenging the system & doing what we can for kids. We cannot let complacency win. Let us life each other up. #g2great
A3 I think the first step is to name those extinguishers as soon as we recognize their negative impact. It won’t make them go away but we can use our curious to shift extinguishers and refocus our attention. #G2Great
A2: We inspire others w our curiosity by sharing our excitement about learning on a daily basis, valuing one another’s beliefs and perspectives, while embracing new learning opportunities! #G2Great
A3: I make sure that I know my students and know what will hit their curious button. I look for what will have meaning for them and create emotional responses. #G2Great
A3: Be a change agent by using Ss work to tell the story of what kiddos can do (assets) and what they need next. Much more powerful than a data wall with numbers. #G2Great
Teachers need to ignite curiosity within other teachers too! We can’t let the negative creep in and take over. Positive conversations with colleagues, and sharing of ideas. #g2great
A3. Twain said, "I can get by for a year on a good compliment." I can honestly say that I can get by for a year (or more) with some community inspired curiosity! #G2Great
A3: Take a risk => empower Ss and amplify their voice => we keep the flame of curiosity burning bright when Ss see the relevance to what they are doing! Compliance is the great extinguisher of curiosity #g2great
A3 I think it’s critical that we find curious others and make every effort to avoid those who are simply putting in the time. Just as curiosity and joy is contagious, so can the opposite be true if we allow it. So don’t! #G2Great
Happy Anniversary #G2Great My birthday today as well! Off to celebrate. Subbed in 1st this week. Tomorrow off to kinder. Sharing some curious work by 1st grade. We inspire each other the kids and me.
A3: It can be tempting to listen to the voices creeping into education with their bias reporting and claims that education that is student centred is failing our kids. We must continue to stand for the practices that put our students first. #g2great
Teaching is a job you can’t do alone. Everyone deserves a person they can turn to when they need to collaborate, problem solve, create, and vent #G2Great

A3: Curiosity isn’t something that idles well. You’re either using it (and therefore getting more), or you’re letting it leak out of the tank.
Build wonder and curiosity into your habits and routines to keep curiosity levels high! #G2Great
A3 Surround yourself with people who inquire, and inspire your students to be curious, ask questions. Being curious is a way of looking at and interacting with the world, relationships, students, the status quo. It makes learning and reading vibrant and joyful. #G2Great
Conferences like NCTE, ILA, NerdCamp and workshops can help too. If you haven’t been to one in a while, please time for it. You’ll leave inspired! #g2great#nctechat
A3: Be a change agent by using Ss work to tell the story of what kiddos can do (assets) and what they need next. Much more powerful than a data wall with numbers. #G2Great
Our #littogether communities meet regularly to learn from each other and grow ideas together. It has made teaching exciting for me, and has been a great support to our many districts. Thank you to everyone who is involved! #G2Great
A3 I think it’s critical that we find curious others and make every effort to avoid those who are simply putting in the time. Just as curiosity and joy is contagious, so can the opposite be true if we allow it. So don’t! #G2Great
A4. We watch.
We listen.
We question ourselves.
We look for patterns and data convergence.
(Not numbers, colors or letters.)
We follow the lead of students to maintain T curiosity about our own teaching and its effectiveness with each and every child.
#G2Great

A4 We keep kids at the center when we let our hopes & dreams for children and our responsibility to them lead the way. Verbalizing these things keeps our dialogue on kids for student driven curiosity exploration at its finest. #G2Great
A4: It all begins with passion. It is the fire that drives us to know and want more. More for us, more for our kids. Curiosity is the foundation! #G2Great
A1 This #g2great group has held me accountable to grow, to pursue the best in research, to know great authors and their work, seek out new and powerful ways to grow young readers and writers.
A4- I always say that the day I stop learning is the day I need to stop teaching. If I expect my students to be active learners, I have to be willing to do the same. #g2great
A4 Listen. Like really listen to our kids.
Curious if something is working? The responses you get from students, verbal & nonverbal, will tell you everything you need to know. If it’s not having the desired effect, look for answers & improvement. #g2great
A4 never stop asking questions, the root of curiosity. Always ask why, it can help keep students at the front of all teaching decisions! #G2Great don't forget why we do this!
A4: It all begins with passion. It is the fire that drives us to know and want more. More for us, more for our kids. Curiosity is the foundation! #G2Great
A3: Consistency and commitment to modeling curiosity every single day. If we don’t show how curious we are, about the things we teach, children won’t care as much to learn! #G2Great
A4 never stop asking questions, the root of curiosity. Always ask why, it can help keep students at the front of all teaching decisions! #G2Great don't forget why we do this!
A4: I love this question. We do this by being honest, by being open to the idea that we don't have all the answers and that the 14 year old in the room might. #g2great
#g2great A4 So much of success in teaching is the relationships built between Ss and Ts. The more we know and love our Ss, the more we understand them. This is something that makes Ts curious, wanting to grow so as to best help these Ss that we love.
A4: Find colleagues who want to study, inquire, figure things out. Offer up home grown learning labs, classroom observations that are centered on studying Ss & their work in an asset-based stance (not analyzing the T) & create thinking partners across the bldg. #G2Great
A3 Surrounding ourselves with other curious educators is key. When we are part of a community of learners, we can motivate and inspire one another to keep wondering and growing. #G2Great
A4. @DrMaryHoward once said when we make everything in school a TASK instead of part of a larger process, we kill learning for kids. But it kills it for us, too, doesn't it? #G2Great
We need to read the research too! I just finished two amazing titles: Game Changer by @donalynbooks and @colbysharp, and We Got This by @MisterMinor! Read them! You’ll love them! #G2Great
A4 We need to be constantly reflecting. We need to be willing to be honest, authentic & question our practices to better learning for every child. Keep reading, keep learning. Keep seeking how to be better & do what you can, differently, to make a bigger impact. Have <3 #g2great
A4 As much as I hate to say this out loud, we must avoid those who have a negativity based approach to teaching and seek positive curious others. I need to be surrounded by those who inspire me to be more curious – not less. #G2Great

Q4. Reading, taking classes, learning all the time, pondering possibilities, groups like #g2great and sitting at the feet of amazing teachers quietly doing great things in their classrooms.
A4: I just replied to an earlier comment about having a wonder stance filled with positivity. Asking ourselves (& others) "What if..." and "What else..." are great, easy, and accessible ways to start & continue #g2great
You know, we have to look deeply at our practices and try to see ourselves objectively and celebrate our work with kindness and honor the good work we do. #G2Great
A4: Be curious alongside your learners! Ask open-ended questions and allow the students to facilitate the conversations amongst and with one another! Create a wonder wall in your room for students to post wonders they have and explore them together! #g2great
A4 When we always wonder, "How'd that go?" we create a habit for self-reflection and curiosity. When we have those conversations with others, we create a system for those traits. #G2Great
A4 Talk to your Ss every day, watch for patterns, troubleshoot challenges, push their thinking forward and encourage them to know that their potential is limitless...the rewards will propel curiosity and learning for all #G2Great
A4 I think the key is to maintain the spirit of a learner as we walk in students’ footsteps and see the world through THEIR eyes. What better way to bring our curiosities to life than through meaningful pursuits of understanding. #G2Great
A4- I feel such a sense of urgency with my Ss - I think it's this that propels me to always keep searching and learning. How will we make this day matter? How will it be remembered? #G2Great
A4: Is how I have come to see myself as a teacher-person starting to eclipse what I have ever thought about the youth in the room as people-students? This intersection of our lives in this micro setting--90 meetings--requires clarity here. Found in continual reflection. #g2great
Hate to cut out early- but on the theme of birthday celebrations: I have to go make birthday treats for my youngest so she can celebrate the big 1-2! (last minute mom tonight) THANK YOU, #G2Great !!
A5. I use many sources to answer questions and wonderings. Trying not to over rely on any one source (not just google but blogs, infographics, books, video & magazines) helps Ts and Ss use literacy, reading and writing, to nurture a sense of wonder and curiosity.
#G2Great
A5 You live each day as a literate being by engaging in the very things you ask of kids. We can’t teach reading if we aren’t readers. We can’t teach writing if we aren’t writers. It’s that simple and that profound at the same time. #G2Great
A5: I see it as a cycle of learning. Curiosity makes one want to read and grow, and reading creates the curiosity needed to move forward and create a need to learn by reading and writing. #G2Great
A4: I become incredibly excited to talk to colleagues and my PLN about new ideas. I am in the driver’s seat of my own professional learning and have high expectations for myself to stay on the cutting edge of best practices in order to help Ss grow! #G2Great
A5- One of my favorite literary experiences was reading "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" with my 2nd grade Ss a couple of years ago. We got so immersed in the story and the Ss independently checked-out Dahl books from the library and purchased their own books. #g2great (p1)
I model how I find my titles and what makes a great read. Students learn from me, but also from one another. Give kids time to chat about their reading, and those “to-read” lists will grow! #g2great
A4- I feel such a sense of urgency with my Ss - I think it's this that propels me to always keep searching and learning. How will we make this day matter? How will it be remembered? #G2Great
A5: It’s all about the questioning! Encourage your students to think outside the box... but it’s important to EXPLAIN to them what thinking outside the box means! #g2great
Q4 Watching and learning with/from children maintains our curiosity about teaching. Today a children showed me how paint can walk! It is these conversations that makes us curious to learn more. #g2great
Oh the project I have in mind...Books provide windows, windows provide a different view and perspective and in that CURIOSITY is born. #g2great#curiositycrew
#LRNchat A4x Like this question from the #G2Great chat. How would you answer it? The cool thing about it is I have no idea what the “right” answer is. There probably isn’t one. Yet. Your thoughts might lead to another’s #aha moment.
A5: Literacy is about learning and discovering the world, deepening our understanding of topics we already know about and learn about topics we have interest in. Literacy is propelled by our wonder and curiosity and our desire to communicate that. #LitBankStreet#G2Great
A5: Try this! Find out what kiddos want to learn more about and then curate a wide variety of texts that they will swim in to nurture their sense of wonder and curiosity. #G2Great
#g2great A5 When I show fervor over a beloved book to my Ss during read aloud, I know it is contagious. Ss are so excited and curious when they see me authentically model this.
Guess what amazing #g2great friends. Got away from a school sooner than expected so made a beeline to the hotel and across the street for a little anniversary chatting from this view. Great friends AND this view. Pretty awesome. So happy to be here
Welcome #G2Great friends. Thank you for celebrating your deep dedication to kids week after week. I’m so sorry I have to be Robo “PRE-TWEET Mary on this special night but I'm in a school in Honolulu now so I’ll join in when I can. Until then sending love to all!
A5- No matter the individual reading level, the class couldn't get enough of the stories. Created a strong literacy bond amongst the Ss, and their reading growth was a direct reflection. #g2great (p2)
A5 In high school, where students often come saying they do not enjoy reading or ask if we must read more, I try to select texts that will speak to their heart & make them question their own thinking. An emotional bond with characters is important in building empathy. #g2great
A5: Ask Ss what they care about. What do they want to read? Write about? Talk about? Study? Use those data to guide your planning for R & W Workshop. #G2Great
A5 Throughout my lengthy career, I’ve found that being in the company of kids surrounded by beautiful books that beckon us as readers and writers is the great curiosity equalizer. It’s the best way to nurture shared wonder. #G2Great
Oh the project I have in mind...Books provide windows, windows provide a different view and perspective and in that CURIOSITY is born. #g2great#curiositycrew
A5b A desire to want to know more about a certain topic, time period or culture is a sign that I did my job; that I planted a seed of curiosity within them to want to go deeper on their own. That is our mission in literacy education. #g2great
A5: Again, we must look to our ss. We must listen to their ?'s and allow our curriculum to follow their interests...it is an art, but they will lead. #G2Great#litbankstreet
A5 Books bring the world to our doorstep and our writing creates worlds we can step into. Literacy is the ultimate way to satiate our hunger for wonder! #G2Great
#g2great A4 The thing about teaching is that every day is a new day...an opportunity to be fully present & curious as to what lies below the surface & provide experiences that make Ss want to show up, be seen, be heard & valued. When we lose our sense of wonder, we miss our why.
A5 there’s no better way to build empathy and expose kids to new experiences and different perspectives (all in one shot) than a good book. Having a shared reading experience builds community plus so much more. Please read to your class every day! #G2great
A5 I find books/texts about topics I’m not very familiar with. I read them fir the first time with students. They live my genuine wonder and awe as WE learn together. #G2Great
A5 We can’t nurture wonder if we reach for a box to tell us what to do. We nurture wonder by immersing in experiences that fuel our sense of curiosity and wonder in the company of kids. It’s intoxicating to become a learner! #G2Great
A5: Just coming out of the #ILAChat tonight on "read alouds." This is a means of presenting text with prosody that invites more time now to consideration of text arrangement and presentation. How did the author present X? How might we follow this kind of approach? #g2great
A5: Exploring topics of interest through avenues like inquiry circles & genius hour, letting kids read books of choice. Asking & discussing open ended & Book Head Heart types of questions about shared texts. #g2great
#g2great A4 The thing about teaching is that every day is a new day...an opportunity to be fully present & curious as to what lies below the surface & provide experiences that make Ss want to show up, be seen, be heard & valued. When we lose our sense of wonder, we miss our why.
A4 I tried really hard when I was still in the classroom to be present when I was with students. It was hard because I was tempted to always be thinking about that next thing I was required by district or campus (you know--the crazy minutiae). When you're seeing... #g2great
Guess what amazing #g2great friends. Got away from a school sooner than expected so made a beeline to the hotel and across the street for a little anniversary chatting from this view. Great friends AND this view. Pretty awesome. So happy to be here
A5 Books bring the world to our doorstep and our writing creates worlds we can step into. Literacy is the ultimate way to satiate our hunger for wonder! #G2Great
A 5 Writers & readers ask questions to make sense of texts the’re reading & writing. Encourage students to pose questions when you read aloud, let Ss discuss texts using questions they compose, use questions to brainstorm, revise, edit. Questions equal learning. #G2Great

A6. Increasing our use & knowledge of formative assessments, (running records, observations, exit slips, etc.) and involving Ss in self assessment can create a curiosity-inspired culture where on-the-spot, child-centered assessments inform next instructional steps.

I think sometimes kids come to us from classrooms where curiosity isn't nurtured so they don't even know (or pay attention to) what they're curious about at first. It takes time to draw that out. #g2great
Texts are the gateway to curiosity => an exposure to rich and engaging texts flatten the world and provides Ss with perspectives that would be otherwise unknown #g2great
A4 ...kids learn, the magical mystery that it is, it's hard not to want to know more, search out more. I was always (and still am) fascinated by kids and how they learn. #g2great
A5: A wonderful text whether simple or complex is a playground for curiosity. Unraveling the meaning and transacting with text is where learning awaits! #G2Great
A6 “Culture” implies that child-centered assessments will become business as usual. This require a great deal of support, modeling, & meaningful dialogue about what that might look like, sound like & feel like. #G2Great
#g2great A6 I think perhaps the definition of literacy itself is synonymous with wonder! Books fall open, we fall in! We lose ourselves in books and find ourselves there too! Words transform!
Curiosity breeds curiosity. If we aren’t curious learners then we don’t get to bemoan NON curious kids. Our curiosity is the spark and we light the fire through shared DAILY curiosity #G2Great

#g2great A6 I believe conferring with Ss is one of the best on-the-spot assessments that educators have access to. By being genuinely curious about a S and their work, it make the child feel recognized and provides a window into Ss thinking.
A6 We need to focus more on observations, authentic learning artifacts, conferencing. It is by having discussions, by questioning and challenging that we will allow students to learn, to push their thinking. We need to let them push us to be better and do better. #g2great
A5 #literacy & #reading nurture a sense of #wonder & curiosity because they provide the platform for Ss to look into their lives or the lives of others, visit new places, & investigate new ideas. Lifelong readers know the power of books to explore their passions. #G2Great

A5 Young students seem to be enthralled by just about anything you'll read to them. LOVE the experience of a read aloud--it never grows old. Older students respond to compelling, relevant, provocative (in a good way) engaging texts. #g2great
A6: Assessment that informs: Use Ss work, but let them hold their thinking in ways that make sense to them. Those types of work samples often lead to more S + T inquiries and curiosities. #g2great
Congratulations #G2Great for your special anniversary celebration. I am a big fan of what you promote and how you add your voice to Twitter. Carol ELA Consultant here late.

A6 We need to be clear about what we want to know and then determine best way to assess it. Too often kids are overassessed and undertaught. A little more assessment literacy can help us make better choices. Authentic formative assessments will give us on-the-spot info! #G2Great
A6 P. David Pearson said that the further we step away from the learning experience, the more we lose. The best way to create a curiosity-inspired culture is to celebrate the assessment- instruction merger so they become one. #G2Great
A6: Assessments need to be viewed with a different lense. Assessment is a noticing of a conversation, a facial expression, a miscue while reading. Each of these can help us be curious about each individual student. #G2Great#litbankstreet
A6. The culture of the classroom needs to honor authentic reading over too many standardized tests. We need to be curious about what children in the actual act of authentic reading— not just curious about their test scores #g2great
A6 Through meaningful conversations with colleagues. Learn together and be a teacher advocate who lobbies for ongoing professional learning on how daily formative assessments support students learning. #G2Great

Our students need to see us as real readers and writers too, so we must share when we struggle. Let kids know we aren’t perfect, and even ask for their suggestions #g2great

#g2great A6 When assessments are authentic and the teacher and student enter in with a sense of purpose and anticipation that a quality assessment can reveal not only a students gifts but provide clues that plot a path to lift a Ss literacy who wouldn't want to dive in & explore
A6 Free yourself from letting a program guide your teaching and instead allow your students to tell you where to go next. This shift is not easy but the benefits (strong student-centered community, growth mindsets, responsive teachers...) are well worth it #G2Great
A6 I can’t think of a better way to create a curiosity inspired culture than to become curiosity-inspired kidwatchers. When we’re present in precious learning moments, kids become informants as we step into our curiosities. #G2Great
A6 P. David Pearson said that the further we step away from the learning experience, the more we lose. The best way to create a curiosity-inspired culture is to celebrate the assessment- instruction merger so they become one. #G2Great
A6: Kid watching and anecdotal notes are the most authentic ways to determine what a child needs. Ts should jump on every opportunity to observe what their Ss are doing. The Ss ARE the curriculum and tell you where to go next! #G2Great
A6 Curiosity-inspired cultures allow Ss to dig into their passions to become lifelong learners. Create the foundation, watch the Ss blossom. Assess their progress through interaction with text, peers, and authentic tasks. #G2Great
A7. My #OLW in 18 was "curious" so that will be hard to beat.
IN 2019, I will CELEBRATE responses to curious as it supports student and teacher learning and growth.
#G2Great
A7 Maybe the question isn’t just about what we WILL do but what we WON’T. With limited minutes in each day, we MUST alleviate anything that robs precious time from what matters. We can’t have it both ways. #G2Great
A7: Maximizing Collective Curiosity: Keep hanging with colleagues & kids. Continue joining into the digital & global conversation. Leave my assumptions at the door. Remember that good work always produces good work…Ts & Ss! #G2Great
#g2great A7 In the sometimes hectic paced world of education, it is easy to lose sight of being in the moment with our precious Ss. I want to work towards reminding myself of the importance of each curious and precious moment with my Ss.
A7: I'm going to make sure that curiosity is fostered in my own second grade classroom each and every day. That's my 2019 goal. Starting NOW! #G2Great#LitBankStreet
A7: Maximizing Collective Curiosity: Rely on my current thinking parters + go find some new ones so that my learning stays fresh and continues to nurture my professional needs & curiosities. #G2Great
Great joining in the #g2great conversation for the first time in a long time. Stay passionate about literacy and about education. Great conversation this evening. Stepping away early tonight. Have a fun-filled Friday!
A7 I think I was born curious so I just want to keep the curiosity trajectory spirit growing in the coming year. The thing about curiosities is that we can’t always plan for the best ones – they somehow find their way to US. #G2Great
A6: We need to make it a priority to to attend to our kids. Our instruction is not strong if not in direct connection to our formal and informal assessment. Trust assessment. Trust your kids Trust your observations. #G2Great#LitBankStreet
My wish for 2019 is for schools to stop pushing programs and to start pushing reading books, but I know that won't happen quickly. ...So my wish for 2019 is for teachers to be guided by individual student progress not by a script in a program. #G2great
A7 I'm committed to searching out and reading much more research. Transfer of learning is something I want to continue learning about. I also want to think about, read alternatives to teaching strategies/skills in isolation. #g2great
A6 Lauren, Kidwatching has been part of my practice for years. The information garnered from the notes taken is an aid to both T and Ss when shared. #G2Great
I’m aiming to get more student feedback. I want them to have a say in their own learning, when possible. I want to continue to put choice into all that they do. Choice allows for more creativity and curiosity. #g2great
A7 Your #G2Great co-moderators are constantly contemplating our role in bringing our collective curiosity spirit to life. I hope that each of you know how much you have inspired us for the past four years. We are so grateful to YOU!
#g2great Challenge A: I am so grateful for this wonderful community of educators. You have provided more than you could ever imagine for me and so many other educators. Thank you!!

A7 I will be booking some time with trusted colleagues for regular reflection. I will continue to challenge my own thinking & strategies. I will keep using Twitter chats as a way to grow and learn. #g2great
Challenge. I look forward to Thursday evenings and learning with the #G2Great community. They stretch my thinking and continually feed my curiosity. I’m thankful for their friendship. #G2Great
A7: When we ask ourselves constantly what is the destination in the real world for what we are doing in the classroom, we ensure we and the kids are growing. #G2Great
